BM Sig works for me. Just abuse them for coming in to melee. I’ve one shotted many thieves flying in at me.
It’s worked well with LB/GS opening with RF as they generally probably associate you with the majority of Rangers. But I prefer GS/S/X as I can keep on my toes better.
I’d say Warrior isn’t complex. Once you get your build and weapon rotations down that you like it becomes repetitive. I will say that I have a level 80 Warrior and while the Engi is more complex I found it boring as hell. So complexity doesn’t always equate to more fun.
I play my Warrior more as a power tank, then I’ve got a power/crit melee ranger which is completely different from my War and very active in playstyle. So there are more options than just Warrior for melee classes I’d say try them all. But you can’t go wrong on Warrior especially in PVE.
You can not dodge during each of the attacks in the auto chain. First of all you should disable loop auto attack as this will make dodging way harder. If im not mistaken you candodge after the first hit but not after the 2nd one. It all comes to experience and anticipation. i would not use sword for a power pvp build though as it is very unforgiving. No problem for condi tanks though.
Thanks for that I’ll give that a try. I was using S/T with A/A in wvw as I’m just messing around… That axe 5 has been amusing on p/p thieves spamming 2 and RF LB Rangers. But I used Sword for damage and evades even though I’m power it seemed ok. Is GS still suggested for power builds?
So I’ve really started getting back into my Ranger and trying a lot of new things (I stopped on Ranger back when they nerfed pet dmg). I used to hate sword but I quite like it now as I WvW loads…. Only thing is that root and what seems to be skill delay which I can only seem to link to AA animation. Is there a trick around this? It’s not very fluid because the AA goes crazy.
I’d say Charr or Human.
Asura are ok but due to their size weapons are reeeeeally small.
Norn at the smallest size is about the same size as the tallest human.
Sylvari have a kind of stiff running animation which got on my nerves not to mention I hate their voice. But style wise they are really cool and pretty similar to humans; they do however have or appear to have a larger frame around their waist I always found armor seemed a bit frumpy looking when I made one compared to the human model.
Charr is the coolest though.
I never really have much problems with them.
CC, Balanced Stance & Berzerker Stance should get you a loot bag really.
The necro sucks at being able to deal with CC (builds and ect vary so I’m generalizing). So hammer goes a long way. I don’t even use Berserker Stance, I just go all in and smash face as quickly as possible. Keep them stunned or knocked down so they can’t get into DS and you SHOULD be fine.
All fights are different and every player has different skill levels. I used to main a Necro but I’ve gone back to my War as it’s fun and a change of pace.
You would get 10-15 fps in zergs. Also I believe HD 7700 is a GPU series, so which particular unit do you have?
The GPU is an MSI R7770 as they have it listed but yeah it’s a HD7770 board.
Hmm not sure if 10-15 fps is good enough, I spend most my time in WvW.
Hey, I can’t seem to find much info on a particular CPU. Here is the setup:
AMD A8 6600k
8gig RAM
Radeon HD 7700
What FPS would I likely see in the game generally, dungeons and wvw zergs?
At the moment I’m struggling on a temp PC because my last one blew up. I’m dealing with like 2-7fps in zergs, so anything would be better. I do know how this setup runs BF3 and it looks & runs great but gw2 is different.
1. Increase pet speed.
2. Reduced AOE damage by 20% default; +30% with trait.
3. Pet F2 abilities are instant.
4. Put Pets into a class system: Birds/Cats = DPS, Spiders/Dogs/Devourers = Utility, Bear/Drake/Boar = Tank.
5. Rework F2 abilities by pet class:
DPS: Every 4th attack you & your pet bleed your target. Activation of F2 teleports pet to foe and applies 5 stacks of bleeding.
Utility: Everything 6th attack you apply cripple (X sec) on your enemy. Activation of F2 immobilizes your foe for X sec.
Tank: Every 5th attack you grant protection (X sec) to nearby allies. Activation of F2 grants X sec of stability to nearby allies.
6. Rework the species traits to make them more interesting.
7. Rework spirits to be similar to Warrior Banners but still different. Banners are great in Dungeons/Fractals, if spirits were of worth on par to banners Rangers would have more respect in providing worthwhile buffs.
8. Allow movement while casting Longbow 5.
9. Remove the damage decrease at close range on Longbow; no other class has to deal with this.
These are some area’s I could suggest… There are many ways to rework pets. I’d still like the pet to be saved but not for us to be penalized by problems outside of our control. More thought needs to be put into it, I think putting them into a class system will give both the player and the Devs a framework to go off of with pets.
1.) Ranger
2.) Ele
3.) Necro
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/balance/Necro-Dhuumfire-move-Replacement
Doing this ^^ helps Necro’s obtain some sort of dedicated condi damage without it being wiped by someones lesser damaging condi of the same type. It also opens up for combos. Maybe a trait within Death Magic that can explode this Mark to deal X% of the damaged loaded onto the enemy. It might be annoying in WVW when someone else blows up your mark but chances of the Death Magic trait being on a longish cooldown wouldn’t be much of a problem and could allow for better teamwork.
Move Dhuumfire to Soul Reaping and add it to Deathly Perception; as such reduce the crit % to 40-45%. (Maybe replace the fire damage with Torment?)
Replace Dhuumfire with:
Necrotic Aura
Range: 1200
All conditions have Necrotic Load Mark, applying a condition will apply a mark. The mark adds a new queue of conditions allowing 5-10 stacks to be applied separate of other stacks.
This would give a necro essentially a dedicated spot on an enemy which wouldn’t be wiped clean unless another necro had this same trait. Any new condition applied would fall into the Necrotic Load Mark and any overflow would dump back into the normal condition queue.
Here is the real fix:
Make pets a mobile back pack with buffs.
Each pet group (Dogs, Cats, Drakes ect.) provide a unique buff. Something like dogs provide swiftness on crit and cats fury on crit… Whatever. Their main role is to haul our kitten around as a function.
Then they need to delete the RANGER title and call the class Archer. Then focus on the class appropriately. Done!
Oh yeah and I’d make the fleshy buffing bags customizable so we could increase or decrease their size and change their colours. I always wanted a lime green wolf that doubled as a swiftness buffing bag with 20 slots.
Hi, so I’ve got a mix of TP exotic armor and CoF armor (helm – hidden & shoulders).
I don’t like the look of the TP armor as it isn’t very Necro looking. I can’t seem to find the right combo for a Charr. Anyone have suggestions? I want the tribal armor but nooooooo…
If you don’t want to roam, a thief is not the best choice. We absolutely can contribute to zergs, but other classes are better. If you want a more action-based playstyle, in groups/ zergs, take long looks at engineers and elementalists. Both have higher skill requirements than your warrior or necro.
I have tried really hard to like Engineers but they aren’t my thing. I know what you mean with Ele’s but they always say how crap their class is kinda not really motivating to rolll the class when most of them I’ve spoke with dislike the state of the class.
Okay well it sounds like they do quite a bit. The whole roaming bit doesn’t appeal to me, I’ve done it with my other classes and it’s fine just not my thing.
I’m debating on whether to go Mesmer or Thief as my new character, Mesmer I’ve had a little more experience with as the Thief I’ve never leveled over 15. Between the two it sounds as if Mesmer has more team assist thru utilities where as Thief is more offensive in it’s “assisting”. My only problem with that is I know Mesmers can dish out really good damage as well.
If roaming really doesn’t have any appeal to you and you’re mainly focused on WvW, then something like a Mesmer may be a better choice. Thieves are far from useless in large groups, but there are still other classes who have a bigger role to play in these situations. If you haven’t yet, also consider Necro and Engineer.
Yeah, I’ve got an 80 Warrior (Main) 80 Necro (Bit bland withthe playstyle for me… Not enough action) 80 Ranger (Meh).
I do like the Thieves playstyle, it’s similar to the Mesmer only in the sense that there is a lot going on.

Yes he /she can rez a dead mesmer. A hidden mesmer can be stealthed (with Shadow Refuge for example) to go unoticed and teleport inside the rest of the party.
Essentially it hinges on the Mesmer still. If there were no Mesmer and you were by yourself you can’t do anything. Whereas if you are a Mesmer and happened to stay hidden well enough you could get the team in.
Hey, I am to a degree a bit ignorant of a Thieves role in WvW. I was wondering if a Thief can play any role aside from roaming ganker.
For instance a sneaky Mesmer can stay inside a Keep and put a portal out assisting in the take over. Thieves can get in and stay hidden, but can they do anything for the team on the inside?
I always liked the look of dw axe but the abilities on 4/5 could use a rework.
Mace 4/5 have their uses, 4 applies party wide 4% dmg increase (not to mention you also get another 4 stacks from axe 2) and the 5 can provide interrupts, I’ve saved several people being chased in dungeons with low health in PUGs.
Personally the feel of sword didn’t seem to flow with axe, which is just a playstyle issue.
If I understand right, it shows the real dps every second? Or something else? I have yet to test it.
If it is, what’s the number you get?It just lumps each condition into its own floater per second. So you see a bleed floater for all your bleeds summed, a floater for poison, a floater for burn etc.
So you can see upwards of 2k for a bleed floater with enough stacks.
Personally…. I oddly find it bad. One of the ways I could tell when to epidemic was the rate at which numbers were exploding out of someone… now I have to pay close attention to what that number on the bleed floater reads or their debuff bar. I expect to go back to the old floater system.
Dude if you have bleeding floaters you better go to a Doctor.
What would you like to know about my floaters?
I would be fine with it if they implemented some kind of gladiators ring where people had to go to, to have the option.
Would I use it? No. But if there is a large enough demand why not?
One thing I hate the most about it is the constant spamming people do in other games to get you to duel. It’s just annoying, I like PVP/WvW for the teamwork. Dueling I find attracts kittens.
Why add a pet that’s useless? They need to figure out wth the pet is supposed to be before they should start adding more. At the rate they get stuff done for Rangers if they added a spider it’d probably have 2 legs.
I would agree with this!! The game desparately needs a mute character voice or volume control.
I cannot play a Sylvari because of how * they sound. They were the race I was most interested in playing but the voice alone bugs me too much.
Cheesy Commercial
Have you ever reached 80 and regretted not spending that time elsewhere?
Have you ever looked in the mirror as a Ranger and wished you were a thief?
Disappointed with the decisions of the past and too stubborn to give up at 20, and 60 levels later you have a character slot who is an extension of your bank?
Well look no further! The new Token of Regret by JML will wash away all those dirty feelings! Scrap that lost time and shame with a brand new shiny character with a race, gender and class of your choosing!
Simply double click while logged on with the class of your hatred and rewrite your personal history! This will reset the character story, if the class of your choice doesn’t share gear types don’t worry… if you spent time leveling a pack mule you can grind naked for new clothes!!
TOKEN OF REGRET!
I don’t see what the big deal is… It’s a game; I know it’s serious business to others but I’m sure there are better options.
I first started with a Warrior got to 50 and got bored. I then went Ranger, Ele, Engi… Ranger won out. I do enjoy archer classes the most. But after awhilr I got bored of all the shifting that went on with the class. One day ANet will get the Ranger to a better spot, FOR ME. Until then I’m just gonna leave it, the thief was kind of a different archer class… doesn’t seem uber effective but it’s decent.
That’s my opinion; F it… if they are slow changing the class fine I’ll move onto another class. I liked a particular build which isn’t really viable now. The only thing I wish they’d do is let me scrap my Ranger and roll a new character/class with my Rangers level.
They need to implement a new class mechanic: Meat Shield. Where the ranger drops all weapons and armor and soaks damage. At death res isn’t an option because no one cares.
TOKEN OF REGRET!! Double click the token of regret on a character you wish tonrecycle. It deletes the character and allows you to create a new character (race/gender/class) with the deleted characters current level. Resets story line.
There!! All done! They can do wth they like with the class, I’d just like the time I wasted on the class put towards another class that isn’t… Ranger.
I’d like to know that the time I spent on my ranger wasn’t wasted. Otherwise give me a token of regret and allow me to apply the current level of my Ranger to a new character of my choosing.
I did like my BM ranger prior to all the changes but it was just one blow too many and now my Ranger is taking up a character slot.
TOKEN OF REGRET!! I don’t care about fixing the class anymore, I want that wasted time back.
So id like to see a few things people would like about the necro, and hopefully some dev might get some ideas from reading peoples stuff.
So here i go:1)A new legendary staff, with alot of death motifs and green and moldy junk.
2)Condition Minions. Whether they would scale off your condi dmg or not i dunno, but if they dont the bleeds should be on par with a fully condi speced necro.
At least get us an Elite ranged condi minion, that would open some nice variety.3)More acess to torment.
1.) Reorder Condition Damage priority!!! A bleed that does 50 dmg should not override a Bleed that does 100 dmg JUST because it hit the target after.
2.) Cleave! Weapons need cleave. I’ll admit it doesn’t fit daggers tho it’d be nice, I do think it needs to be placed on axe.
Those are my two main wants for the class, I know a lot of people want them as well. The only other thing I’d say atm is access to a good mobility skill that isn’t on a long CD.
Reminds me a bit too much of the aspect switching in WoW which was frustrating as it eventually became a case of “you are stupid if you aren’t in Hawk at all times”. I’m actually enjoying the ranger a bit more than my hunter in WoW because the pets have unique abilities and so far I am not required to play my characters in what is considered the “best” build.
Still, I enjoy reading suggestions as some ideas are pretty neat. Don’t give up on us.
I wouldn’t know anything about that.
However saying one is better than the other is dependant on your build. If you prefer to melee more you would be in the Scout/Melee type toggle as it would enhance your build.
I will keep it short… replace the Rangers F key ability with three toggles.
Archer Toggle:
Ranger releases pet permanently and focus’ on ranged attacks receiving X% damage boost. The Ranger has X% chance to cripple while in this mode.
Scout Toggle:
The Ranger has access to X/X pet species and has an boost of X% to melee weapon damage.
(Dogs/Birds would be my suggestion)
Beastmaster Toggle:
The Ranger shares a bond with his animal allie increasing the pets damage by X% amd giving it a X% bonus to movement speed. The Ranger has X% bonus to movement speed.
Each toggle has it’s focus which is shared with the sections in the traits, Ranged, Melee and Pet. Most Rangers have hated the pets for their AI while others were attracted to it because of the pets. This has the potential to appease all major playstyles revolving around the class.
How to avoid abuse of toggles:
Apply a 1-2 sec cast time.
5 min cooldown on the toggle you were previously in.
Further Pet Suggestion:
Remove their F2 abilities and combine them with one of the pets standard abilities.
If the pet is active in the two other modes/toggles the pet controls would still need to be active and available.
Hey, I’ve been away from my Ranger for months. When I came back to GW2 there had been several updates including a big one. With this big update I was totally lost with my Ranger as it didn’t feel the same, I went back to my Warrior but I want to give my Ranger some attention.
I don’t see anyone talk about BM builds anymore, are BM builds pointless now? Are they or can they be viable in WvW? I pretty much stick to PVE and WvW.
My name is Ragnar The Ulfr.
Ragnar comes from my middle name and Ulfris wolf which I liked the idea of the elite skill of turning into a werewolf hah. Which I never do.
Ragnar is good, sounds very fitting with the Norse Mythology background of the Norns.
Doubly cool that it is your middle nameI like Ulfris too, sounds very Viking.
Mine is Arnhildr Grimdotter.
Researched Norse naming methods etc, and I liked both the sound of Arnhildr, and the meaning (though the meaning currently escapes me xD)
Hildr is loosely translated to do with battle if I remember right. Thought it was chief but that’s valdr.
It would be awesome to see them as they are one of my favorite weapons. According to other game dev’s their reasoning is the animation and related problems to over come which is too involved.
I agree though that we need polearms and 2h axes as well, seeing as I doubt we’ll see flails I’d vote for 2h axes first as they are beast.
I named my Norn Warrior, Alexandra Hawke. She’s the smallest build available as I try to RP that she’s only half-norn, half-human. I figured the name of “Hawke” would fit the Norn race while being ambiguous enough to still relate to her human side.
Who knows…
Hawks are like THE animals used for hunting purposes. The other would be blood-hounds for foxhunting etc.
So having that hunting animal / spirit in ones name definitely fits the Norn and their culture. At the same time, I would say that “Alexandra” is a quite flamboyant name for a Norn, however, since you are going for a half-human RP-approach, considering an RP-perspective, you did well. Apart from the very fitting “down-sizing” of your model, the name definitely implies some form of “higher” education and culture.
For a warrior though… I am not sure… I would have totally agreed on a medium armour-class, or some form of scholar.
(Since Alexandra seems associated to “finer arts” and Hawke to traits like agility and speed)TL;DR I think the name is quite fitting and works well for your RP-intentions. However, since you rolled a warrior, I feel it is somewhat off.
7/10
My Norn-Warrior is male. His size is like the T-3 armoursmith in Hoelbrak.
this guy
Just like him. So he is not a giant max-muscle-max-height monster-Norn.I wanted a warrior-esque name and chose Hadrubal
Is Hadrubal a play on Hasdrubal then? It’s cool doubt you’ll run into many varients of this name.
My name is Ragnar The Ulfr.
Ragnar comes from my middle name and Ulfris wolf which I liked the idea of the elite skill of turning into a werewolf hah. Which I never do.
I really like shields but I find that the same two skills are a bit bland. I suggest that those two skills stay in place for Mace as a MH but when you switch to Axe or Sword the shield skills change with the MH weapon.
Here are a couple suggestions per MH.
Axe:
(Shield 5)
Enraged Slam
25 sec CD
Slam shield into ground.
(Blinds for 1 sec and 4 x vulnerability 10 sec)
(Shield 6)
Shield Charge
50 sec CD
Charge to target location, anything in your path is knocked back and interrupted.
(Does what it says)
Sword:
(Shield 5)
Ferocious Bash
25 sec CD
Spin wildly bashing your shield into nearby opponents heads that bleeds them.
(8-10 sec bleed)
(Shield 6)
Quick Defenses
45 sec CD
Jump back evading and gain protection.
(5 sec Protection)
Comments? Idea’s to improve?
Is there any future plans to add additional voice options for characters? I like my Charr and Norn but Human is annoying…. But Sylvari? I have a love hate relationship with them. I hated him so badly because of his voice I deleted him, the love comes from me singling out Sylvari’s to kill them.
I was told to use 30/30/0/0/10 with GS and Rifle. Personally I find LB better for blaster finishers and well… I like LB’s. But it also has slow weapon swap and too little in the Disc tree for my liking.
How is this build compared to the one from the vid?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIMQNAnZRjcOJvZPyQMxBAjihC6ogKmUPmzt2A-e
That is what I ended up using which was basically one of my first builds I made after looking at the warrior going back, build up vuln and smash them down with 100b. When I got to lvl 50 I got bored of the warrior and went to several alts finally sticking to Ranger. I moved and it took my ISP to install a line 3-4 months which there was the big patches during that time. Now I don’t really like my old Ranger build and lost connection with it and found my Warrior to be fun. Thing is I wanted to get away from the mindless 100b and went S/S which I liked a lot. I am finding A/M fun again but I still don’t like the GS… I need a 2h Axe. Hammer is cool but it is slow as hell.
I will definitely respec to this and give it a shot, I’ll miss my rotation which involved evis.
I will take a look at the build now, from the comments it is probably the build I ended up using thru common sense alone but I still need a look.
The one I was referred to was in my opinion absolutely kittened. I ended up moving to axe/mace + gs but is a build which is between wvw and pve. Which seems to be much better. I can understand the meh feeling of not using the F1 ability because it’s one more thing you COULD do but isn’t optimal.
Thanks for the guide I will check it out now… And then refer it to the guild.
that shows a 1H axe hoisted over the wars shoulder not a 2 handed great axe there is a very big difference . Also concept art does not game mechanics make . I haven’t seen a fan off hand for mesmers yet which was in the concept art for it .
You really think that’s a 1H axe? Please, show me an ingame axe that is that large. I’d dual wield that baby in a heartbeat!
My guess is Labrys?
I agree though we need them, more than pistols…. I wanna cleave someones face.
So I just got my first 80 and I’ve been told axe/sword + gs is THE setup. With the recent changes is axe really still that great for mainhand? How is sword/sword stack up? I don’t have uber gear atm but evis is sometimes hitting hard while other times it is meh. However the swords burst is aoe and applies bleed which seems to be more useful on big mobs.
