Why don't we know more about HoT?

I don’t understand people who think there’s somehow a lack of content for their precious $50… Have you seen ANY of the videos of the jungle areas? It’s enormous. Those maps plus all the story content alone will be worth it in my opinion. Getting lost in a whole new world is such an incredible experience to me. My 1-80 in GW2 was incredible and if this captures that feeling again it’ll be worth way more than $50.

For me it is the type of content. The expansion for me hinged on my characters and what else I could do with them that would hook into how I like to play them but different. So basically I get more of the same but in a jungle setting, oh nm I might need new gear because it is harder? Maybe I missed something but no new dungeons?

Dunno, it just doesn’t feel like I’m going to be progressing my characters at all just killing stuff in a new zone. Not too sure about raiding, if it REQUIRES me to grind out all ascended gear I’m not interested. So for me the content isn’t right, not saying it isn’t for others, it just appears very meh to me. Which is too bad because I did want to like it.

“… but we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…” ~ Nancy Peloski.

“the bill”, Prepurchase.

Meh, details.

Pretty much.

So far HoT hasn’t sold me and has pushed me closer to uninstalling than purchasing and continuing. I’m still going to wait and see what reviews show on YouTube before making my final decision.

Same position I’m in. I want it to be good and worth the money, but delayed features and lack of details on the amount of content doesn’t inspire confidence. I’m not very inclined to spend $50 for a bunch of “content coming soon, check back later” signs.

For me the expansion kind of hinged around what they did with the classes. I had a lot of (high expectations?) hope for the specializations. Other than the Necros I wouldn’t have ended up pulling my specs away from what they were. So the possibility of running a new spec and getting loads of new stuff with my core classes I got the exact opposite.

It’s not all doom and gloom but I think I’d be more willing to buy TESO and give that a shot compared to HoT which has a serious lack of detail plus (personal opinion) bad specializations. New Ranger pets are very cool, just not £35 cool.

Maybe with any luck they will turn all the Sylvari to plant zombies and they will change their voices to something… Less annoying.

I would replace him with broccoli stuck to a potato, no one would tell the difference.

I’m still in the situation of deciding whether I will buy HoT or not as I’m still not sold on it. That aside I don’t think it’s such a horrible problem with providing content that is more challenging as the core game is pretty mindless. That being said I don’t agree with shunning people if they do not have ascended gear. IMO ascended gear is too grindy for me, working is grindy enough for me as it is. Unless they made acquiring the materials much faster and easier, but as it is I’ve only gone with a weapon.

If raids were tiered so T1 was capable of running exotic+ 1 ascended, T2 requires exotic+ 4 ascended, T3 requires full ascended. T1 & 2 would have high chances to obtaining ascended materials it would assist people to move forward. As it stands now it is boring to grind/farm for it (IMO of course). The only other thing I would say is the rewards better be worth it; I find GW very lackluster in its rewards for doing XYZ.

From a PVE standpoint I like the changes personally. As someone who used WHaO prior to the patch (only because I’m specced for Resounding Timbre) this is great. My Phalanx War built might stacks just as easy so I don’t see what the problem is there.

I agree that weapons could use some buffs, Axe should be slightly reworked as just a power weapon IMO as opposed to some weird hybrid.

Saying something isn’t fun is subjective, I want my build to be effective and entertaining and if it gets more out of its buffs now then that’s fun to me. WHaO never gave me anything aside from what Resounding Timbre gave and now its got great utility as well. If the other heals suck in comparison then maybe they could be given better utility.

As for PVP/WvW running WHaO seems risky with Necros and Thieves corrupting or stealing them.

These changes are a ramp up to the expansion and as nobody but Anet knows what that really entails maybe there is a possibility we want or need these changes?

What's Wrong With Being A Healer?

in Ranger

Posted by: Ragnar.1546

Ragnar.1546

The problem with healers is that in order to make them useful, you have to make them mandatory. If you make them mandatory, then you have just recreated the holy trinity. The LACK of a holy trinity was a main selling point (and the best part about) this game.

ArenaNet is going backwards by adding antique game content rather than developing new things and going forward. Raids, trinity, expansions, these are all the wrong direction for the game.

At this point it’s important to note that we can’t say for certain whether Anet has created a need for dedicated healers in PvE content until we play it.

I disagree completely that raids, trinity and expansions are the wrong direction for the game, but that’s just me.

Either way it’s bad.

If it is required: Best/Most healing tacked to one class. Lets also mention that the Druid is a specialization, but if they made it required that means the Ranger is the Druids specialization.

If it is not required: Wtf is all the healing for? Celestial form… What good is HealSpamBot mode then?

Druid feels like it was bolted onto Ranger at the last minutes. With things like Reaper, Chronomancer, Tempest, Berserker, Scrapper, Dragonhunter and so on, you can see how the spec is a clear extension of the base profession. You could take Druid and give it to Elementalists, Guardians or Necromancers and it wouldn’t feel out of place. There is no thematic underpinning between Druid and Ranger because Druid doesn’t tie into any of the Ranger’s core mechanics.

Druid feels like a new one weapon profession created with the single-minded purpose of having a healer for raids and then strapped onto the back of Rangers because where else can you jam it in? Even if I thought this was a good thing, and I don’t, what happens when Anet abandon raids like they abandoned dungeons and fractals? We’re the ones stuck with the gimmick spec designed for a specific purpose that’s become obsolete. As it stands Druid is way too over-centralised with its focus on healing. Seriously? It has like eight different heals and no real synergy or interaction with other trait lines or core Ranger mechanics. And at this point, can Druid even be adjusted in a meaningful way considering we’re under four weeks out from launch and we don’t even begin testing until next week? You could have given this spec to Thieves and it would have fit just as well.

I think its opposite, one of the reasons druid in its current form came to be, is due to the limitations of our pet mechnic(they didnt know how to make it survive raids and zerg fights) So they made you an healer insted(this way you wont cry over missing dps) So the lack of pet synergie in celce form, glyphs and staff skills is actually an answer to the limitations of the pet mechanic.

Lol what??

So instead of fixing pet issues or making an extension of the Ranger class they make an almost separate standalone class which doesn’t directly link to the CORE class?

I play Necro/Guard/War/Ranger, Necros Reaper fits very well into the power Necro build which is cool as it synergizes. Guards Dragonhunter is a bit meh largely because I don’t like traps but it still links into the rest of the class. Wars berserker is just uninspired but obviously works with it very well. Druid on the other hand does feel like its been thrown onto the Ranger. I get the good points of it, I’m ok(ish) that I don’t feel it fits my build enough to use it (while I wish it did). The elite is exceptionally horrendous. Ascetics aside, you turn into something and everything you do heals. Why not take away all utilities and abilities and use one massive heal button so people can just mash 1 until everything is bursting with hit points.

To say that their way of fixing the Rangers issues is to spam heals until everything is at full health is ridiculous. In fact one fix shouted for ages now is adding a -X% aoe damage to all pets, but that must be too much of a Blizzard pet fix for them to do.

I don’t like the Druid because it appears to incentivize others to require you to stay in Druid form and heal everyone. I can only imagine people going “Oh gaud that Druid is being a Ranger again.” The content that is coming is a big mystery as well but if they feel that they need this big healer class to exist, slapping it onto one class is a poor choice.

So rangers, How do you all feel now?

Pets: Awesome.
Balance: Nice.
Druid: Meh.

I feel like I must be the only one not excited about the Druid and feel like it doesn’t fit with how I play the Ranger. Aside from the Reaper none of the specs are going to entice me to change my builds for them. I’m still undecided on the expansion, the one thing that got me excited were the pets. I was hoping for the Druid to be more of a control caster, that would have had far better synergy with how the Ranger is than a healer.

The elite is absolute crap imo… Lets just turn everything you do into heals. That just screams “lost interest”… There appears to be no other thought put into it other than replicating in various ways to heal people more. At least the pets are cool.

I would always welcome adding support to my Ranger because I do enjoy helping the group out while dealing damage. Problem I’ve got is the Druid feels a bit out of place with the rest of the Ranger, and its just a healbot mode when you use the elite.

The elite for me is a major letdown, turning everything you do into heals. Meh. I definitely won’t be picking the elite, and if I have to because of the new content then I’m just going to either refuse and ignore people moaning or go to another class which I shouldn’t have to because the “healer” was essentially crammed into one class.

I found the new pets far more cooler than the Druid.

From a PVE perspective. Powerful Potion (-10% dmg) + Signet of Judgement (-10% dmg) + Protection (-33% dmg) seems good enough to me. I face tank quite a bit of stuff if I’m feeling like it, I’ve never quite felt so tanky on a class wearing all zerk than I do on my Guard.

Ragnar.1546

I out DPS my warrior as well as my friends. I first noticed it when I went onto my warrior and specced PS/Rampage and it does very well. But the overall damage portion compared to what I got from my Ranger was close. I tested it against a friends warrior who is just running some sort of damage oriented build (only downside was them wearing Soldiers gear w/zerkers on everything else) and I was doing better.

When I was getting ressed over the warriors or guardians when I got myself caught up in “damage mode” in dungeon runs I knew I was doing something right and it was noticeable when I got back up on my feet again.

I’m not going to kid myself that Rangers are top DPS; but we are a long way from bottom. It’s still hard to see how it will all pan out but as far as I can tell I’m glad I spent the time/money going into ascended crafting on my Ranger rather than my Warrior and especially my Necro. Wow… So not impressed with my Necro.

I would take 1600 gems as being a suitable “thanks for sticking around” reward… But they still haven’t sold it to me well enough. I’ve personally not seen enough that shows me what I’ll be getting out of my hard earned money everyone seems so desperately wanting to remove from me.

For being at pre-purchase phase they’ve done a horrible job at marketing. But I’m sure it’s worked on others so hey ho. At this stage they could throw in 50k gems and I still wouldn’t buy, most the stuff on the gem store is unimpressive to me.

I do enjoy the game and am generally curious with what comes with the expansion but the only stuff I’ve found interesting has been the PVP map and class reworks, and that’s not enough to sell me on it.

(The only reason I’d accept the gems is for part funding a server transfer)

Anet likes New Players Better?

It makes sense that they get the core with the expansion as it should boost player numbers into the game. However they did it all wrong.

I would have: $15 Core $30 Expansion. Buy together get it for $40.
Existing should have definitely got a free character slot.

For me to be honest they haven’t sold me on it. Sorry but if they think what they have drip fed out is honestly the best marketing for their expansion they must be misguided. Maybe I’m “different” but I play the game to do stuff, I don’t care about exploring and looking at scenery if I wanted to do that I’d go hiking to look at stuff 1000x better than what I would see on my screen. I don’t care about guild halls, I don’t care about gliding (seriously??? Lol), the new pvp map looks cool. Wvw? Loooool don’t get me started on that, I have to pay or grind my soul away to pay for a server transfer to get onto a better server as everyone left mine (so there is another £20 to me if I wanted to play wvw). Class specs are cool but £35? No not that cool.

So far I’ve seen little of actual stuff to do… Dungeons? Maybe some new crazy open world events always running? I’m not raging, I don’t really care… It’s a game but it could have been marketed better at this stage. But to virtually give nothing to existing players is just ridiculous, it’s kind of like they want to boost new player numbers and oops’d on the existing resulting in a kitten result.

I dunno… Maybe they will release more that sells itself than what they’ve chucked out on the table.

Whats the focus of pve? There is no focus in wvw but what you decide for yourself. What players do in wvw is a reflection of their personalities, some do trollish things, others run it mindless zergs but there are many who join to be part of something and get satisfaction working as a team and building a community.

There at the end of the week is only a rough estimate of how well your team performed in attacking enemy objectives, defending your own and killing the reds. Sure some are going to sah…. nuuuuh its night capping! Ppt is coverage! Every sever has ppl online 24hrs a day. What effort was made to find potential players and commaders for the off prime time blocks?

Mostly wvw is just too big for 1 person to take in all at once.

No they really dont…

I’m on Fissure of Woe. It is horrendous.

I first bought GW2 for itself and for WvW… My server just died in WvW from people fleeing the server for a better home like GH. I may swap server one day but I can’t bring myself spending 20, deleting all my characters or grinding anymore in the game than I already have done. So no not every server has people playing… Mine never seems to.

(1) We know. There may be some fixes coming with the expansion. We’re in a holding pattern on this one.

(2) How much? That’d be a nice thing to prove before making this claim.

(3) Lol, have you not met Mesmer illusions?

What exactly is your point here? I feel like you could have made a post saying:
1. Guardians and Eles give boons every time they break wind.
2. Warriors have highest base health and armor in the game.
3. Mesmer clones look like them.
4. Rangers’ pets are animals.

The on going number for pet dps sits around 1/4 – 1/3 of a rangers DPS, this has been true for ages.

Mesmer illusions being difficult to use =/= being openly detrimental to the class. The two are difficult to compare since a mesmer has a much stronger hand in positioning their illusions, they dont persist like the pets do, and they attack like players do, so their pathing AI and attacking animations arent near as much of an issue.

Where’s your proof that the pet DPS sits around 1/4 to 1/3 of a Ranger’s DPS?

I still see nothing but a claim.

Well it has been the go to percentage for ages, but if you want more indepth:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Pet-DPS-number-crunching

Essentially, it can sit around 1300dps to 2100dps. That low end being without buff stacking and no pet traits.

1/3 of your damage was also the damage a pet does stated by the devs.

Now then, based on this, which is about as close as we’re going to get for calculating dps, ranger dps, inluding pet, with meta builds, sits around 7-8k. This is accounting for buffs.

http://gw2dps.david-reess.de/

Note, that in PvP, your pet will have less time on whatever its fighting, so, their damage will drop. Which is a problem, since by the devs own admission, pets should account for a sizeable chunk of our dps.

The PVP issue is my one gripe about the pets. I still have success with my build but it requires more attention to positioning to make it work better. But if the pets were a lot faster at firing off their skills and able to move faster to stick onto targets. That should be base line; they should generally be faster damage modifiers /extras should come from spec.

I read somewhere that they were looking at improving pet/minion ai which could mean something like them moving and using their abilities faster… Unless they are going to add something like an auto dodge function. But I doubt that as it’d probably require too much work.

What would you do instead of pets?

Roll a different class.

Thank you for your insightful and intelligent reply. “Roll a different class” would make an awesome F mechanic. Great job.

Ranger is the pet class. Necro doesn’t count so much as one because it’s ok to kill your pets and two “most” builds don’t use minions due to their problems. So why would ANet go back on their word that the removal of our pet isn’t an option? Hence my response.

Besides we’ve had posts about people wanting to dump their pets for some sort of design change. Some of the times these ideas aren’t bad but what’s the point? The design is for the Ranger to be pet oriented; what they need to do is improve the pet AI/further tweak response times and problem is solved.

But for those who still don’t like pets… Roll a different class.

You must be a blast at parties…

I know pets will never be removed, but I’ve been thinking of some other Ranger-related f mechanics…

What would you do instead of pets?

Oh I didn’t realize this was a party. In that case…

F1: Pet dawns beer helmet and takes a sip of the sweet nectar. Increases attack speed and might.
F2: Pet wheels in exploding beer kegs. 1200 radius burning 3 seconds.
F3: Pet brings out bong. Forces all foes within 600 radius to take a hit. All foes are dazed for 2 seconds. Confusion applied for 5 seconds after daze breaks.

In all seriousness tho they could expand on the F2 abilities but we still need a way to retain pet control.

IMO they should allow SOME utilities to be used and then modify how they work… Like how some utilities cannot be used in water and the ones that can be often change slightly. Doing that would allow for better balancing.

My guess is it’ll be a combo of staff ele and staff guard. Some damage, some support.

I’ll probably get kicked in the nuts for saying this but I’d have rather they done a BM related spec that allowed us access to two pets at once with a pet overhaul.

I’d suspect what we end up with is something related to Bleed/Poison condi’s, Protection & Regen. It would fit into the theme of the Ranger and what we already have access to. All I hope for it is that it compliments the LB well enough. Maybe it’s us tomorrow? I need to decide which my main main is going to be.

Ragnar.1546

On the point of every class being a ‘reskin of the same thing’ or however you mean it, no, that is not and will not be the case. Every class at current can do direct damage, but eles, rangers, engies, warriors, and guardians all still have a much different playstyle for them, and even sometimes different playstyles within the same class that accomplishes the same thing. So, yeah, no. What you’re asking for there is outside the scope of this particular game, and your concern isn’t even accurate on how things would be handled currently or in the future.

what it sounds like is that you’re whining because Necromancers aren’t getting the support options you want them to have, when they’re instead filling in a different role that Necromancers need filled. It sounds like a classic “You’re getting something I’m not, so I want that instead” like a child, and I have to believe you didn’t intend it that way.

Lol no.

I bounce between Ranger/Necro as a main which is why I use the Necro as an example. I personally do believe that they did Necro right via support with incoming changes allowing them access to easy and mass stacks of vulnerability. I wouldn’t complain if they gave my Necro might and fury but I could careless as I’d still play my Necro in any part of the game I want to.

Would I enjoy my support options I have with my War in all classes I decide to play? Hell yeah. Do I seriously think I’m gonna get it? Nope.

The Ranger is ok at “support”… Not great not bad. But it’s all premature as you have no idea with the “Druid” spec will bring.

Ranger: Spirits/Boons/Spotter

Don’t get me wrong it’s nothing compared to my Phalanx/Banner Regen War but it’s ahead my Necro for sure.

The problem here being that “At least you’re not [class]” isn’t really an argument. if your support is terrible, being slightly less terrible than someone else doesn’t stop you from sucking at it.

Sure. But it’s their game design, they made it clear the Necro wasn’t going to get support options even remotely similar to the Warrior. So if Ranger is set at their idea of support what’s the point of this post?

I think if they say each class should be their own tank/healer ect that’s fine… So should support I suppose. But then why bother having different classes if all they do is the same thing but show it in a different way?

Niche areas of support make more sense but won’t happen due to too much overhaul involved.

A couple of boons are not really meaningful, since all classes already have access to those boons. Depending on how they change the spirits, they could possibly become very very good, or remain meh.

What I mean by focused and meaningful would be AoE ground targeted and pulsing stability while foes get -ve effect, AoE ground targeted condi transfer to foes. AoE Heals, Resistance and Retaliation, unique buffs akin to spirits, Spotter type buff with condition damage and duration, venoms, etc.

Ragnar.1546

is PvE really that poorly made in this game? i have not really paid much attention to it yet. been mostly focused on PvP.. but if i understand it right Dungeons are all about stacking buffs/players and abusing mechanics. is that supposed to be fun?

It’s a bit of bad design and human mentality. The Necro by design/theme isn’t supposed to be very supportive. It causes problems for people who want or expect that every person in a group will provide THEM with DIRECT support (Might/Fury/Stat buffs ect). Necro can provide good vulnerability but some times people are blind to stuff like that because it isn’t a buff that’s landed on their character.

I play a Phalanx/Banner Regen Warrior/Spotter Ranger/Zerker Necro. That is the order from most group support down to least. In a same group I can tell the difference between not being on my Warrior to having him there. My Ranger is packing heat and melts face. My Necro is good but not great, if others fail I generally can survive the situation and carry on but if I had just brought my Warrior no one would have wiped.

So that’s down to the players/build really. I’m not into speed runs and uber efficiency so disregard that from what I’m talking about. I play to get things and have fun. Being nit picky about everyone and everything is for work not a game IMO.

Spear Idea with Trait

Just an idea…

Gain access to Spear.
1.) Basic>Basic>Basic
2.) Throw Spear (Heavy Damage w/Cripple)
3.) Flanking Strike (Spin to targets flank and strike twice applying X bleed stacks per hit)
4.) X Flurry Strike (Think Rapid Fire but in melee distance.)
5.) XX Run Through (Charge foe and land a heavy hit that applies 3 separate conditions)

X4.) Without “TRAIT”: Gain Fury
XX5.) Without “TRAIT”: Has 3 charges gained by successful attacks from 2 & 3. Each charge that strikes a foe applies an impairing condition with the last being the “worse”. So something like blind/cripple/knock down or back.

With the “TRAIT”: Allows shield to be equipped giving the shield abilities attacks from the Spear.
X4.) Shield Bash knocks foe down. Strike with a flurry of strikes.
XX5.) Shield Stance block attacks. Charge back a heavy blow that knocks back foe.

It would also evolve the gameplay of the shield through the use of a trait. Warriors are all about their prowess with weapons so why not make a trait that turns a defensive weapon into an offensive one? Additional traits could incorporate the spears use I general providing offensive support thru attacks; condition removal on successful Spear Throw, aoe Allie fury, swiftness ect.

The thing that annoys me about the Warhorn 5 is the DoT attached to it when it hits something while your trying to just run thru and it slows you down.

They should just make ours like the Rangers warhorn in Halloween mode. Instead of birds its bats and at the end they are covered in ectoplasm which cripples and torments. Then Warhorn 5 is a blast finisher and if the wielder is a Charr it blasts x 4 times. Why? Because Charr.

MM/NM/BM

I’ve always been BM… I’ve occasionally steered away to try different things but I made the Ranger because I like bow wielding pet classes, albeit I find most of the pets visually kind of boring.

The buffs to us in this update/expansion looks very good but the test will be how well it stacks up against everyone else’s buffs. That aside I’m optimistic the build I run now will be way better.

I don’t think that took you that long … and here’s a nice agreement

  • You be nice and help others
  • I’ll be nice and help others.

If we were all nice and helpful … we’d all win :-)

Thank you for providing the link and info.

It’s not me questioning you, it’s me wanting to know exactly what you’re referencing.

If I didn’t get the link from you, I’d find something and come back and ask “is this what you were talking about?”. I’d rather just ask you and skip a step.

Regardless it’s not about being nice or not, it’s about time management… that time I won’t be getting back which is why I almost never google things for people when if they really want to know they can go find it —> using their time, and not mine. Of course, I view my time as a much more valuable than others I guess since I work rotational. If you or someone else couldn’t find the article you’d be SOL and I wouldn’t bother continuing the conversation any further… I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

The same reason follows suit for those that may not know… Like myself. I’ve got better things to do with my time than to read endless pages of interview crap. The forums are full of speculation some more grounded than others.

In any event I am ready to jump into this update for my BM build.

If they don’t have piercing shots, our pets would block a large number of projectiles.

At the same time, they can wall all day long … so we aren’t going to shoot through that … it’d come to melee … or our pets dying and then us being shot.

Barrage over their walls.

Surely our range will trump theirs. Flank both sides and RF with piercing on both sides. Go melee>swoop>signet of stone>maulathon

great, so we now know, where to send all the pet haters.

We should have an all out brawl… Rangers vs Guardian Rangers. I bet the number of pets would decimate them and they would be forced to bow to the pet.

Too bad we didn’t have another F key which causes our pet to tea bag the downed victim which gains the Ranger and pet stability and condition removal.

WD is good fun on rangers LB2 or thieves pistol version (forget the name) who don’t have good enough reflexes or not paying attention. I’ve had many fun times defending a gate in WvW and being on the wall using that after I’ve let loose hell from above.

It’s fun/funny, yes, but you’re talking about 2 of the least respected types of players. P/P thieves, which are nearly unheard of, and people new to ranger who just mindless spam RF. You don’t need reflects to beat either one of them. You don’t even need an offhand equipped.

This is true about not needing it to beat them. I’m out of the loop on thief metas as I’ve been away from GW for 6months(ish). However I do equip OH axe for those situations as I do have a purpose to use the reflect and its funny as hell watching all the long range knobs throw everything at you. It’s good for entertainment and has a mediocre utility (if you want to call it that) in some of those wvw situations. I’ve never found it worth my time anywhere else but that one situation. Which to me means it is not a good option to use, especially as Warhorn Imo offers more.

OH axe needs a rework for pvp. Whirling Defense is unusable/suicidal, and while PoS does massive damage, its CC remains too slow and clumsy.

Depends on gameplay. But the read makes them sound less damage oriented than the ranger. So I’ll keep my bow/pets (I don’t use traps).

What do you do during cooldowns?

I do the following…
(A/W & LB)
Start in Axe/Warhorn
1.) Send pet in.
2.) Warhorn 5
3.) Warhorn 4
4.) Wpn Swap (& Pet Swap but I’m specced for Quickness on pet swap) Longbow 2
5.) Longbow 5
Aggro reset = LB 3
Wpn Swap/LB AA camp (Axe AA stacks might but LB AA tends to hit harder… Depends on situations. I usually camp in LB AA for a little but not too long to let my CD’s wind down. Having Might stored for WH4/LB2 is beneficial.
Axe and then kind of rinse/repeat.

I will say that Warhorn 4 in quick conjunction of LB 2 puts out some good numbers.

What do you think druid is going to get?

They have said in the stream that the Druid will be built around using a staff.

^^True story.

Lol can’t argue with that ^^

But how would that staff work?

Now that I thought on what I posted I actually think that spells changing accordingly to the pets we have at the moment sounds good. And it would fit both having pets and using the staff…

1: Leaf Blower – blows leaves at your victim with a violent gust.
2: Power Mulch – kick up a fuss when your foe tramples on your flowers – knock him down with the power of mulch
3: Splinters – stun foe and rub your staff against the grain on their skin. Inflicts bleeding.
4: Roots of doom – let loose spiraling roots of poison oak and nettles irritating your enemy. Does no damage. (the one we saw in the vid)
5: One with the trees – smear your face in mud, leaves and grass while hiding behind your staff you go invisible.
