Yeah, we play games for fun and that means different things to different people. There is nothing wrong with wanting/being/or looking for an elitist group. You should look for people who share your goals so you can have the most fun. Just remember that other people may not play for the same reasons and that’s okay too.

Hope you find what you are looking for Zans. Good luck!

Go ranger to start out. You can find a tanky pet to engage the mob for you and do damage from a distance.

I will warn you now though of a difficulty rangers face: though extremely good in PvE it takes a high level of skill to be really useful in dungeons, high level fractals, and WvW. (Obviously anything that does damage and heals is helpful, but rangers are often considered sub-optimal) The reason it takes high skill (imo) is because to remain useful you probably need to build glass-cannon, and will need to compensate by being very mobile and generally good at not taking damage. Because rangers don’t NEED to practice these skills in PvE, many of them never develop these skills. Plus many people just choose to lvl other characters instead of using their ranger for this content.

If you have friends to play with though it won’t matter. Also, if you ease yourself into the game with ranger and then expand to other classes it won’t be a problem.

CrossedHorse: while we have players scattered across other servers, I can’t say we have more than 2 or 3 on any other servers. Certainly don’t try switching without guesting. I’d try guesting for 20-30 minutes on Sanctum of Rall and see how it is for you. If it seems playable, let me know so you can find out more about MadCast! Otherwise don’t worry about it— there are tons of good Euro servers too, and I know some of those guilds are recruiting around here.

Also: definitely go for a mic. Most servers have a server-wide TeamSpeak for WvW where you can learn what’s going on and meet people (a good way to find guilds on your server: try going into WvW and asking in all chat if there is a server wide TS or vent, or ask in the WvW subforum here) and many guilds have a guild Teamspeak, vent or other voip service to connect members. It has definitely made my playing experience tons better to be involved in voice chat!

Hello! I am Red. Nice to meet you! ^^

We are generally active between 7 PM EST and 3 AM EST so it’ll be a few hours before our guild activity picks up.

Steelwolf: Congrats on being a new father! That’s amazing. We understand your obligations and don’t mind at all. Several members of ours have young children, and those who don’t have families, jobs, and other real life stuff going on. Come hang out with us when you can, and if you get busy we understand. (but do try to let us know if you need to disappear for a long time or we’ll miss you).

Pyrowolf: Welcome back to GW2! We’d love to meet you. Hopefully I can catch you online tonight.

If you have time, I’d encourage both of you to post an introduction on our forums: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forum.php. Otherwise one of our members will get an invite out to you soon and I look forward to getting to know you both!

Well hello to all of you casual players in this thread (Gary, CrossedHose, UrMom). Gary, you are right— having friends to play with definitely makes the content more enjoyable!

Some of you mention you have tried casual guilds before with no success. I encourage you to:

1. Make friends to play with as you are doing now.
2. Keep looking for a guild that’s the right fit for you and your needs.

The reason I would say to keep looking for a guild is that unless you hate people you will probably find a guild that is right for you eventually. And even if you hate people there are guilds out there that exist solely to run guild events and don’t require any kind of participation or communication otherwise. XD

Anyway, my guild is MadCast Gaming (Sanctum of Rall), and maybe it would be a good fit for you! MadCast can be summed up as a serious community made of casual gamers. Our primary goal is to make friends and have fun, and I think this is pretty evident from our guild requirements:

We do NOT require 100% rep. We do encourage you to rep or join us in TeamSpeak as much as possible to enjoy the social aspects of our community.
We do NOT require a server transfer. If you would like to transfer we can help you towards that goal. We request you demonstrate you are a positive, contributing guild member before requesting our help though.
We do NOT require a certain level of time commitment. Many of our members have families and careers that prevent them from being online 8 hours a day. Please be respectful and honor commitments you make to attend events; that is all.
We do NOT require a specific level, class, experience, or event attendance. We have many new players and want you to have fun when you play.
We DO require you to be a kind, helpful, respectful, and positive contributor to our community.

You can find more info about our guild here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/recruitment/MadCast-Gaming-MCG-SoR-1/, as well as on our main website: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forum.php.

If any of you are interested, I’d love to invite you to join us and meet some of our members in TeamSpeak (you can find information about that here: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-New-to-MadCast) and post an introduction thread on our forums. Alternatively, you can private message me in game, and I would be happy to add you in to one of our parties. TeamSpeak is our main form of communication, but if you aren’t comfortable using your mic or don’t have one, you can still join and listen while talking with us through chat. We have several members who interact in this way.

If you have any questions you can message me in game, post here, or join our forums and ask there. Good luck to each of you.

Hi Gungnir! Welcome back to GW! I hope you find a great guild soon. The game is so much more fun with a good group of friends.

My guild, MadCast Gaming, is on Sanctum of Rall, but you can feel free to guest for as long as you want. Some of our members never transfer, so that is ok, but if you ever want to transfer in the future, we are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer.

To guest on a server, go to your character select screen. In the bottom left hard side is a button for select your server. You can click on any server on the list that you would. Two buttons show, one for guesting and one for transferring. Guesting lasts for 24 hrs or until you log out, so whenever you want to play on your guild server you will have to pull up the menu and select it. This is fast and easy though, so you will probably not find it inconvenient.

MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. You can check out our website at www.madcastgaming.com for more info. I especially suggest you read through the forums some to get a feel for what we are all about! Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

  • We have a mature community. While MadCast has no specific age requirements we do have high expectations for maturity. You will find kind, patient people and no drama. The vast majority of our members are over 18 (especially in GW2). Most of our GW2 members are older with careers, and many have families and children.
  • We are a serious community with casual gameplay. In other words, the main expectations we have for members revolves around positive contribution to the community and not on a packed GW2 schedule attendance. If you are active in the forums and show up to play a few times a week, that is good enough for us. Additionally, because we are casual our community is made out of all levels of players. We have many very new players, some new to gaming in general, and our environment is built on kindness and helpfulness. People will be happy to answer you questions and guide you through things no matter how basic or advanced. We love new and returning players! ^^
  • We have a super awesome, active TeamSpeak group. We enforce strict rules of respectfulness and tolerance among our players, making it a safe friendly place for everyone. People of all types feel comfortable joining in the conversation and making new friends.
  • Our community is bigger than in-game. We have a website with a lot of activity and heavy forum use. This is a huge asset because we have people who play all kinds of games over at MadCast, and the forums really serve as the uniting factor among people.

If you check out our website, you will see information about becoming a Full Member of MadCast. This is not something you need to do right away. Our guild welcomes ‘Associate’ Members, meaning we will add you to the guild, you are free to use our TeamSpeak and join our Forums, but you do not have complete access rights for the guild bank, or accessing certain Full Member parts of our forum. This is a good way to find out if MadCast is the right fit for you before applying. In the long run, to gain any ranking position, we require people to be an official MadCast Full Member.

If you want to, I’d love to invite you to join us and meet some of our members. I would encourage you to join us in our TeamSpeak (you can find information about that here: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-New-to-MadCast) and post an introduction thread on our forums. Alternatively, you can private message me in game, and I would be happy to add you in to one of our parties. Quite a few of our members participate this way.

Hi Criddifer! Welcome back to GW2! Hopefully you find a great guild soon. The game is so much more fun with a good group of friends.

Some of our members never transfer, so that is ok, but if you ever want to transfer in the future, we are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer. Alternatively, if you delete all your characters you can rechoose a server for free. Depending on how long you’ve been gone and what you have on your characters you may not want to do this, but I just throw it out there as an option if you want to start over. Even if MadCast didn’t work out for you, Sanctum of Rall is a great server to transfer to since we are a top WvW server and have a lot of great active guilds. If you need help guesting, please let me know!

There may be none around actively recruiting right now. Search the guild subforum to see if there are any recruiting in there. Additionally, try going to Lion’s Arch and asking if any guilds are recruiting. Plenty of recruiters pass through LA and will message you or whisper in game with info if you ask.

If you were less set on Ruins of Sumria I would give you some info on my guild (Sanctum of Rall).

1. Eat food regularly as you are doing stuff. All food gives a +10xp bonus per kill. You can buy it for very cheap on the trading post, or just level Cooking a tiny bit and make your own.

2. Even if you don’t like crafting, invest in some gathering tools and stop to gather mats. This gives you a big chunk of XP (better than killing stuff) and is often part of the Daily. Then just use Deposit Collectibles to save the mats in your bank until such a time as you might use them for crafting, or sell them for the $$$$.

3. Do map completion as you level. Try to get every vista, poi, waypoint, and heart as you go through the map. This gives you a nice bonus chest at the end when you finish the map, lots of exploration XP, and once you’re level 80 you will be very close to completion.

4. Go to other starting areas besides your own for new content at your level. You can get to all the other starting areas by going to your Capital City and heading to Lion’s Arch through the asura portals. From Gatehub Plaza you will be able to use the asura gates to go to all the other Captial Cities.

5. You don’t like crafting, which is fine, but jusk leveling any craft from 0-400 is 10 levels of XP. Pretty significant amount of XP!

6. Try WvW or PvP if you haven’t. You might like it and both are available for all levels. In WvW make sure to stick with the zerg. Your level cap will be raised, but your gear stats are still level 9 and you won’t have all your traits yet. By virtue of doing all the WvW events though, you should get tons of XP.

Hi Toasty! First off, since you are new to Guild Wars, welcome! It is an awesome game and there are many great communities out there. I hope you find the right one for you, as a good group of friends make the game exponentially better.

I made this guide the other day: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/showthread.php?13932-So-You-Want-to-Play-Guild-Wars-2&p=127494 for newer players. It covers things that are not explicitly mentioned in the tutorial. You may know some of them, but if not maybe it will help you out.

My guild, MadCast Gaming, is on Sanctum of Rall, but that’s not really a big deal! Guesting is a really great feature of GW2 that will allow you to do everything with people on another server EXCEPT for WvW. If we end up being a good fit, you can join the guild on another server and save Coin to buy Gems if you like, and transfer later. (Give us a test run first though) We are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer.

Hi DCG! A good group of friends will make your adventures a lot more fun, so best of luck finding the perfect fit for you. (Hopefully it’s MadCast though!)

We are generally most active between 6/7 PM EST and 2 AM EST.

MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. You can check out our website at www.madcastgaming.com. I especially suggest you read through the forums some to get a feel for what we are all about! Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

*We have a mature community. While MadCast has no specific age requirements we do have high expectations for maturity. You will find kind, patient people and no drama. The vast majority of our members are over 18 (especially in GW2). Most of our GW2 members are older with careers, and many have families and children (so we will totally understand you time crunch!).

*We are a serious community with casual gameplay. In other words, the main expectations we have for members revolves around positive contribution to the community and not on a packed GW2 schedule attendance. If you are active in the forums and show up to a few events a week, that is good enough for us. Because we are casual our community is made out of all levels of players. We have many very new players, some new to gaming in general, and our environment is built on kindness and helpfulness. People will be happy to answer you questions and guide you through things no matter how basic or advanced. We love new players! ^^

  • We have a super awesome, active TeamSpeak group. If you are thinking of joining, it is definitely a place to check out!

Our guild welcomes ‘Associate’ Members, meaning we will add you to the guild, you are free to use our TeamSpeak and join our Forums, but you do not have complete access rights for inviting people to the guild yourself, or accessing certain Full Member parts of our forum. This is a good way to find out if MadCast is the right fit for you before applying. In the long run, to gain any ranking position, we require people to be an official MadCast Full Member.

If you want to, I’d love to invite you to join us and meet some of our members. Tonight we are running some Dungeons and would be happy to teach you (you should be high enough level for the AC Dungeon). I would encourage you to join us in our TeamSpeak (you can find information about that here: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-New-to-MadCast). Alternatively, you can private message me in game, and I would be happy to add you in to one of our parties. TeamSpeak is our main form of communication, and even if you aren’t comfortable using your mic, it would be great if you installed it just to listen to the chatter. Quite a few of our members participate this way.

If you have any questions you can message me in game, post here, or join our forums and ask there. Good luck finding a place for you! <3

Hi Erebus! Sorry to hear you’ve had a bad time with your previous two guilds. I can assure you that you would find a different experience in MadCast. Being the internet, I think it speaks to the kind of conduct we expect from our members that we have so many women members who stick around and feel comfortable. (I myself am one so I can speak with confidence. )

Just moving this on up the page! Tonight is Dungeon Run night. We may be doing Arah for some of our members who have recently hit 80 and want to finish their story quest. Not certain though, cause I moved this weekend and maybe they already did it? Otherwise some CoF farm might be in store. We’ll see!

I might suggest also that you look to recruit small groups of friends as you ‘restart’. If people come in 2s or 3s they will want to be sharing a chat with their friends— hopefully guild chat. Then as other people are invited they will see there are people on being active in your guild and that should help you build up again.

I’m wondering about how late you stay up playing. My guild is US based (sorry :/) but we sound like such a good fit otherwise I thought I’d check. We usually start being active around midnight your time.

Hi Tori! ^^

I am Red; nice to meet you! Sorry to here you are lonely in game but maybe you can find some awesome friends here with us!

You can add me or Andromeda, or any of the other officers and message one of us next time you are online to be invited to do some stuff with our guild. Alternatively, you can post an intro on our website (linked at the top) or join us on our Teamspeak to meet some of our players (info on our website forums under New to MadCast). Tuesday and Wednesday nights we have events coming up, but we will also just be playing casually and having fun later tonight if you are around.

Don’t worry about being on another server for now. Check us out by guesting (if you don’t know how just ask and I will post a step-by-step) and then if you decide you want to transfer we can help you with that later. Remember you can do everything via guesting except WvW anyway, so it’s not really a big deal.

Finally, good to have another woman around! Andromeda and I are both women, and we have a handful of others who play with us too. But I am bias and always excited to see another. >o>

Let me know if you have any more questions or need help with anything!

Hi Tim,

I know the feels man. :/ I was part of a small but thriving game community that was killed by some game-breaking nerfs and discontinued support for the servers and devs. Real life stuff happened, and a group of good friends for several years was slowly disbanded. The skype group still occasionally pops up but the good times are long gone. T_T

That said, finding a new group of good friends is definitely the right move, though I am sure you will miss the times you had with your old friends. I find GW2 is not a game that can hold my attention for very long without the social aspect.

Anyway, here comes a long stream of information about my guild MadCast Gaming. I appreciate that you are very serious about finding a good fit, so I’ll type up something more specific to your questions here instead of Ctr+C, Ctr+P here. XD

MadCast is a fairly old gaming guild that has been through many different games. It was started in 2007 by two friends as a result of their Battlefield clan slowly falling apart. I myself did not find/join MadCast until earlier this past year. I actually joined the clan for League of Legends— the GW2 clan I joined early on in the game did not work out for me, so I started playing LoL because I don’t like playing GW2 alone. After I joined MadCast I discovered they also played GW2, and since then it’s been GW2 100% for me!

At the very start of my time at MadCast, the GW2 group was quite small. They had decided to change servers over Christmas, and the switch + many people’s holidays meant not everyone returned when it was all said and done. Myself and few other dedicated members have worked very hard, and I can happily say we are growing exponentially. On most nights there are anywhere from 8-20 people in our GW2 Teamspeak room.

However, our goal is not to continue growing forever, but to reach and sustain perhaps 50 regularly active members so we can generally expect to have about 20 people on each night. We feel this is a number that will allow us to keep our friendly family feel while providing enough people that our group can do everything people want to do. The number is a bit flexible of course, and one thing I have learned about MadCast is that we strive to be adaptable to continue growing and improving. There’s no other way to stay around for that long!

Here are a few things I personally really appreciate about MadCast:

1. MadCast is serious about building a good community. People are always welcome to join us as associates/guests to check us out, but everyone who wears the MadCast tag has gone through a Candidacy period of 30 days. They must show they can stay active in our community by playing games with us and using our forums, and they must demonstrate they can uphold our code of conduct.

2. MadCast is very democratic. All members contribute to the candidate decisions by giving feedback about their interaction with the candidates. Our ranking members (moderators) are chosen cyclically so that no one goes stale in power. Senior members are voted on by the entire general community, and Staff pretty much do not make decisions without member input on some level (most decisions are not made by staff at all). This system is 1. a demonstration of our commitment to choosing quality members, and 2. proof of the level of involvement our members have in the community.

3. We have a ton of fun! Last night we had a Karaoke night which we had maybe 50 people attend over 4 hours. It was a good time to get to know people and everyone took turns singing/playing instruments. Events like that ensure everyone gets to know each other even if they don’t normally play the same games.

4. We are casual gamers with a hardcore community. You may notice all my points have been about our community. Most of us are a little older with careers, families, and some even have children. We are all actively involved and enjoy playing together because of our great friendships over the great games. Most of our members spend a lot of time online on the TeamSpeak, in game, and on the forums. However, we never require people to have a certain skill level, or have the best gear, or log in for a minimum number of events a week. We want you to (of course) if you can, but our real values are community-based, not game based.

There’s tons more but that should give you a good idea for now. I’m really happy to talk to you more about it too. ^^

Here’s what you should check out to give yourself a better feel for MadCast:

Our website at www.madcastgaming.com. Especially check out the forums.

Our youtube at www.youtube.com/user/madcastgaming. Lots of good stuff there.

Lastly, pop into our TeamSpeak to meet people and check us out! Information for connecting is on our forums in the New to MadCast subforum. Our GW2 members are most active between 7 PM EST and 2 AM EST.

Good luck Tim! I hope you find the perfect guild.

Hi Rose! A good group of friends will make your adventures a lot more fun, so best of luck finding the perfect fit for you.

My guild, MadCast Gaming, is on Sanctum of Rall, but you can feel free to guest for as long as you want if you are on another server. Some of our members never transfer, so that is ok, but if you ever want to transfer in the future, we are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer. You will find we are most active between 6/7 PM EST until 2 AM EST but there are always random people about at other times too.

To guest on a server, go to your character select screen. In the bottom left hard side is a button for select your server. You can click on any server on the list that you would like to guest on. Two buttons show, one for guesting and one for transferring. Guesting lasts for 24 hrs or until you log out, so whenever you want to play on your guild server you will have to pull up the menu and select it. This is fast and easy though, so you will probably not find it inconvenient. In any 24 hour period you can only guest on up to two other servers (but you can re-guest to the same server as many times as you want, say if you log in and out 4 times in a day). This isn’t really a big deal though for most people and its always 100% FREE!

MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. You can check out our website at www.madcastgaming.com. I especially suggest you read through the forums some to get a feel for what we are all about! Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

Our community is bigger than in-game.

Yup. This is ridiculous, tbh. I get the no posting thing to an extent (though honestly, how will anyone know which guilds are active without some regular bumping?), but not being able to edit or delete seems like a clear bug. The guild thread that was posted was accidentally posted as a Q and our poster cannot edit it. Furthermore, what are guilds supposed to do when guild info like a TeamSpeak or guild leaders/contacts change?

Hi Gorkle! A good group of friends will make your adventures a lot more fun, so best of luck finding the perfect fit for you.

My guild, MadCast Gaming, is on Sanctum of Rall, but you can feel free to guest for as long as you want. Some of our members never transfer, so that is ok, but if you ever want to transfer in the future, we are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer. If you need help with how to guest, just let me know. ^^ I suggest you guest while you check us out at the very least so you don’t pay to transfer before knowing you want to play with us.

MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. You can check out our website at www.madcastgaming.com. I especially suggest you read through the forums some to get a feel for what we are all about! Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

We have a mature community. While MadCast has no specific age requirements we do have high expectations for maturity. You will find kind, patient people and no drama. The vast majority of our members are over 18 (especially in GW2). Most of our GW2 members are older with careers, and many have families and children.

We are a serious community with casual gameplay. In other words, the main expectations we have for members revolves around positive contribution to the community and not on a packed GW2 schedule attendance. If you are active in the forums and show up to a few events a week, that is good enough for us. Our community is made out of all levels of players. We have many very new players, some new to gaming in general, and our environment is built on kindness and helpfulness. People will be happy to answer you questions and guide you through things no matter how basic or advanced.

We have a super awesome, active TeamSpeak group. If you are thinking of joining, it is definitely a place to check out! We enforce strict rules of respectfulness and tolerance among our players, making it a safe friendly place for everyone. People of all types feel comfortable joining in the conversation and making new friends.

Hi Extesse! Welcome to GW2! A good guild will make your whole experience a lot better, so I wish you the best of luck finding the right fit for you. Since you are so new, maybe this guide I made recently would be helpful. It covers some information that is not in the tutorial, etc. but is pretty helpful. So You Want to Play Guild Wars 2.

It seems you may be more interested in buying the lodestones than in farming them from the dungeon and sparks. In that case I suggest you stop salvaging things and start selling them (just the regular old merchant vendors). Play whatever/wherever you want and save up the gold.

I personally couldn’t believe you got to 100% map completion and made that little gold until you said you only bought salvage kits. Then I realized you must be salvaging it all. Selling drop items well net you a handful of gold a day. I generally make 3-5 gold in a few hours of running around doing wvw or orr events, or just the daily + some wandering without trouble.

Anyway, I also echo that CoE is not a hard dungeon. Submarine path is very easy once you learn it (a handful of runs with people who know it). I had good luck with drops while I was getting tokens for a longbow. Got maybe 10 lodestones while farming it? I was a bit luckier than my guildmates though in that respect. (No magic find gear, just raw luck.)

This is a good way to find out if MadCast is the right fit for you before applying. In the long run, to gain any ranking position, we require people to be an official MadCast Full Member.

If you want to, I’d love to invite you to join us and meet some of our members.

[Isle of Janthir] Looking for Guild

Hi Zalenus! Welcome to GW2! A good guild will make your whole experience a lot better, so I wish you the best of luck finding the right fit for you.

My guild, MadCast Gaming, is on Sanctum of Rall, but you can feel free to guest for as long as you want. Some of our members never transfer, so that is ok, but if you ever want to transfer in the future, we are happy to help dedicated and involved members save for the transfer.

We enforce strict rules of respectfulness and tolerance among our players, making it a safe friendly place for everyone. People of all types feel comfortable joining in the conversation and making new friends.

Our community is bigger than in-game.

TeamSpeak is our main form of communication, and even if people aren’t comfortable using their mic, they often join in to listen.

Heads up, “meatgrinder guild with 300-500 members” is probably referring to the huge guilds who just want the body counts so that their events/WvW/etc have a huge turn up and good rewards, but are not focused on developing things like friendships and fun. In those types of guilds you really have to go out of your way to actually meet people and develop a group, otherwise you’re just a number on the roster.

Tried different pets and different dead people.

To reproduce: find a dead person. Tell your pet to Search and Rescue.

Problem: Does nothing.

This skill used to work for me, but I couldn’t say exactly when the problem occured cause I haven’t used it in a while. :/ Sorry.
