If you started getting bored with GW2, probably the best step you can make is joining a guild! Regardless of what guild you join, I wish you the best of luck finding a good home for yourself.

An important note: MadCast is not on your server, we are on Sanctum of Rall. If you are not heavily invested in WvW yet, I would still encourage you to consider. Guesting makes it easy to participate in everything except WvW, and for serious contributing members, people are happy to pitch in and help you save to make the server move.

MadCast Gaming is a great guild to consider in your search. You can check out our website at www.madcastgaming.com. MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

We have a mature community. While MadCast has no specific age requirements we do have high expectations for maturity. You will find kind, patient people and no drama. The vast majority of our members are over 18 (especially in GW2).

We are a serious community with casual gameplay. In other words, the main expectations we have for members revolves around positive contribution to the community and not on a packed GW2 schedule attendance. If you are active in the forums and show up to a few events a week, that is good enough for us. On the other hand you can always find players around MadCast of all levels of ‘hardcore’ gameplay, so if you want to play 6 hours a day, srs bsns WvW, there will be people to play with.

We have a super awesome, active TeamSpeak group. We enforce strict rules of respectfulness and tolerance among our players, making it a safe friendly place for everyone. People of all types feel comfortable joining in the conversation and making new friends.

Our community is bigger than in-game. We have a website with a lot of activity and heavy forum use. This is a huge asset because we have people who play all kinds of games over at MadCast, and the forums really serve as the uniting factor among people.

If you check out our website, you will see information about becoming a Full Member of MadCast. This is not something you need to do right away. Our guild welcomes ‘Associate’ Members, meaning we will add you to the guild, you are free to use our TeamSpeak and join our Forums, but you do not have complete access rights for inviting people to the guild yourself, or accessing certain Full Member parts of our forum. This is a good way to find out if MadCast is the right fit for you before applying.

Tonight our guild is doing a Bounty Hunt at 10 pm eastern time, and 1 am eastern time. If you are available, I’d love to invite you to join us and meet some of our members. I would encourage you to join us in our TeamSpeak (you can find information about that here: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?2-New-to-MadCast. Alternatively, you can private message me in game around that time, and I would be happy to add you in to one of our parties.

Good luck with your hunt! If you have any questions you can message me in game, post here, or join our forums and ask there.

We will be meeting up to start the mission in approximately 90 minutes (10:00 PM EST).

Well, you didn’t exactly say what you are looking for. I am guessing:

Interest in RP.
Guild that doesn’t mind you not doing PvP, WvW, dungeons, fractals or jumping puzzles.
Something new to interest you.
Maybe something else????

First off, if you have not done it yet, PLAY THE GAME WITHOUT THE UI. Press Control+Shift+H to make the user interface appear or reappear. Playing without the UI is like watching a movie, and makes GW2 one of the most beautiful games I have ever played.

So there ya go for a new approach.

Though you weren’t too clear about what exactly you were looking for, if you are looking for a strong community of friendly players who would be happy to have you even though you have a laundry list of things you are not interested in— MadCast Gaming could be that.

MadCast is a gaming community bigger than GW2, but we have an active GW2 guild and are working on growing it. We are a serious-casual community— serious about building a strong community out of good friendships and positive contribution, casual about gameplay. You will find a whole range of players in terms of levels and dedication, but everyone is welcome as long as they are there to make friends and build the community.

If you are interested in that, please whisper/PM me in game, post here, or make your way over to our forums at madcastgaming.com and introduce yourself.

We have a great group of people on our Teamspeak, and you would be welcome to join us and get to know people tonight while we do our guild bounty mission (no requirement to participate in the bounty mission to come hang out with us in TeamSpeak).

Good luck with your search!

Hi Addison! First off, since you are newer to Guild Wars, welcome! It is an awesome game and there are many great communities out there.

I made this guide the other day: http://www.madcastgaming.com/forum/showthread.php?13932-So-You-Want-to-Play-Guild-Wars-2&p=127494 for newer players. It covers things that are not explicitly mentioned in the tutorial. You may know some of them, but if not maybe it will help you out.

As far as servers go, Guesting is a really great feature of GW2 that will allow you to do everything with people on another server EXCEPT for WvW. If you are not really into that yet, you can join a guild on another server (yes, you can join guilds from any server!) and save Coin to buy Gems if you like, and transfer later. When I joined my current guild I was on a different server, so I just guested onto theirs until I saved the gold to switch.

To guest on a server, go to your character select screen. In the bottom left hard side is a button for select your server. You can click on any server on the list that you would. Two buttons show, one for guesting and one for transfering. Guesting lasts for 24 hrs or until you log out, so whenever you want to play on your guild server you will have to pull up the menu and select it. This is fast and easy though, so you will probably not find it inconvenient.

That said, I encourage you to check out my guild! It may or may not be a good fit for you, but from your requirements it sounds like it might. Our website is madcastgaming.com, and you can view our recruitment thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/MadCast-Gaming-SoR-Together-for-the-Better.

1. We have many lower level and new players in our guild who would enjoy partying up with you. Additionally our high level players love helping out new players and would be happy to help you out and answer your questions.
2. We do not have an age requirement in our guild, but we do have high standards for the maturity of our members. The vast majority of them are over 18 though. Many are married with children, university students, or just out of university— a whole variety.
3. We have an awesome active TeamSpeak community. You will meet many fun people and make great friends if you hang out with us.

MadCast Gaming is a larger guild that sponsors several games, but we are a tight knit community through our forums and TeamSpeak. We don’t expect people to apply to be a full member right away without getting to know us though! If you would like, you can join our guild as an associate member. This means you will be invited into the guild and can come on TeamSpeak with us as a Friend of MadCast, and post in our forums. However, you will not have privileges like inviting other people to join the guild yourself (though you can always recruit people and ask a Full Member to add them for you), some parts of the forum will not be accessible to you, and you won’t have full access to all the TeamSpeak options like moving people and creating rooms.

Loot is instanced. You will never be able to ‘run by’ and snatch up loot that dropped for someone else. It will never show on your screen. I have played other games where this is true, so I understand where this misconception is coming from, but seriously, if you play the game and look for it you will know GW2 works differently. It is the same for crafting materials. If you see someone else mining a copper node, the copper node will not go away for you; you can still mine it. Once you mine it though, the node is no longer mineable in your game. If you wait around you may see other people come up and mine the node because it is instanced so the resources are still there for them. (I hope that explanation makes sense) The same thing is true for loot.

Example: Players A and B attack a Moa. They each do 50% damage, so they pass the threshold to qualify for loot. Both of them receive 50xp points and a loot drop. Player A loots a Poultry Meat and 5 copper coins from the Moa. Player B loots a Shortbow. Neither play will see or know what the other player looted unless they tell each other. If one of them does not pick up the loot it will simply disappear without ever becoming available to other players.

As for leaving a guild— YES! It is very easy. If you join a guild and don’t like it, you can leave at any time with no penalty.

Press “G” to bring up the guild menu, or open it manually from the icons in the top left. If you have joined multiple guilds, select the guild you wish to leave from the list on the left hand side. This will open a guild page that shows the guild’s message, influence, and a list of the players in the guild. Below the list is a button that says “Leave Guild”. Once you click it, you immediately leave the guild and go back to being a solo player (I think it asks you if you are sure just in case it was a misclick, but I don’t remember). And done!

Hi there!

If you have already found a guild community I wish you the best of luck with them. If you are still looking, you may want to check out MadCast.

MadCast is a gaming community that is bigger than GW2, but we are working on growing our GW2 sector right now. Here are some points you may find attractive about MadCast:

We have a mature community. While MadCast has no specific age requirements we do have high expectations for maturity. Many of our members are older, married, some with kids. We have a distinct lack of drama and stupidity that you may find in younger groups.

We are serious-casual. In other words, the main expectations we have for members revolves around positive contribution to the community and not on a packed GW2 schedule attendance. If you are active in the forums and show up to a few events a week, that is good enough for us. We have a super awesome, active TeamSpeak group. If you are long time players of MMOs, I’m sure you know the benefit of this!

Good luck with everything, and if you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to show up on our forums or track me down in game via the Mail or whispering.

Cheers!

Hello sir, let me try to address some of your questions:

All MMO’s are the same: Well, MMOs have certain genre characteristics that make them an MMO, yes. However if they were all really the same no one would play new MMOs because that would be a waste of money. Guild Wars 2 has tried very hard to make some changes that defy what you would normally expect to see in an MMO in the hopes of making it a better experience.

Guild Currency— Influence Points: As Vaugh pointed out, Influence is gained from guild members playing. The one qualifier is that you must be REPRESENTING the guild for them to earn influence off of you. GW2 lets you join multiple guilds, but you can only represent one at a time. This make representing players the most valuable asset to any guild. If you are talking about guild requirements and motives, it is easy to see this. Many guilds require 100% representation (i.e. not switching over to represent another guild for part of the day).

What does Guild Influence buy? Influence is used by guilds to buy guild upgrades. Here are some examples of things guilds can purchase to help their members in WvW: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Art_of_War#Art_of_War. Guilds can also spend influence on guild missions like bounty hunts. Here is a list: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_mission

How do Guild Influence purchases benefit the players? Well, if you scroll down the guild mission page you can see the rewards. If you participated in a Guild Bounty hunt you will be rewards 50s and 2 pieces of rare or better equipment. Additionally you will gain experience points and some karma for doing the event. The guild also earns more influence points to help them run another guild event. Everyone benefits! Guilds can also research guild buffs (listed here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Economy#Economy) that can be shared with anyone. You may have run into a guild banner while playing alone that gives you increased Magic Find or Experience. A guild pays for this with guild influence points and it helps everyone, even non-guild members. Some guilds use this as a form of advertisement and community service.

What is the ‘real’ source? Okay, so you voiced some suspicion that this stuff can’t be free. You are right. Players give their guilds TIME in exchange for Influence. GW2 wants you to play the game. In order to keep earning money on it, they need people to be actively engaged and regular players so that some people will continue to spend money on gems. As long as there is a large player base people will buy gems and there will be demand from other players who buy gems with gold. That’s why GW2 has a social system that rewards time spent in game (specifically active time, as you will earn more influence for your guild when you do events). Guilds work hard to keep their members active so they can earn Influence Points. This doesn’t take away from your loot, your experience, or anything else, but it does eat up your time. Some guilds require you to be on every night, others are more casual, but most guilds have an activity requirement.

Sharing Loot: Some guilds may ask you to donate to the guild or to other guild members. This may or may not be a questionable request so use your best judgement. I needed to server transfer to be with my guild, so people helped me farm and save gold to transfer over. This was not required by my guild, but it was something people did because we are friends. If your guild leader tells you to send him one rare a day, that may be a greedy kitten who wants people’s money. Don’t trust it.

In GW2, the loot system is special: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Loot. The important part is this: "Each player who participates in killing a monster will have the opportunity to loot the body. Each monster has a damage table and a threshold value of damage done to it by the player before it will give full credit for the kill. This value is about 5% to 10% of the monster’s health.1 The loot dropped is unique to the player, and loot received by one player does not affect what another player receives. One monster may drop the same rare item for multiple players. " As long as you deal enough damage, you will have full experience credit and loot chance on kills. The same goes for dungeons and guild events. Unlike some other games, if you do events with a group in GW2 you are not earning shared loot (i.e. one pool of loot that people have to divide up). If you get a drop, it is unique to you and no one else can even see it. This doesn’t mean people don’t share loot. It is common for people to trade items they cannot use to each other so everyone has better results, but this is not necessary.

I hope this answers you questions. If you have more though, feel free to ask! Don’t be put off of finding a guild, but do your research and don’t join the first one you see. Look for a positive active community that will help you have fun playing the game!

Hi there! Our guild is recruiting, and has a lot of newer members! We are not on your server, but we have many members on different servers. Due to guesting they are able to play everything with us except WvW. If you are mostly interested in PvE, we could be the place for you. We have guild events, dungeon nights, and other guild nights where we help people level alt characters and do completion on their monthly achievements. We have many newer members who are just getting the hang of GW2, and our more experienced members are super happy to help out!

If you are interested in our community you can check it out at madcastgaming.com, or feel free to add me in game and chat me up for more info!

Good luck looking!

MadCast has been really great! I joined about a month ago and have especially appreciated the great community on TeamSpeak. GW2 is a lot more fun when you can chat with other people.
I also have to say, there have been times I was uncomfortable in other communities because I was a girl and people treated me differently. MadCast is different. I think the fact that there are many female members in MadCast can testify to that. If you have been discouraged by your experiences elsewhere, I really encourage you to come check it out. I actually stopped playing GW2 for a while because of that + some other problems with a guild, and I am happy to be back playing again with great people!

Yeah, this has been happening to me all weekend. Don’t even THINK about telling me its my connection, because I have had no issues until the past few days. Every time I disconnect my skype call has been fine and my internet connection strong. The only thing that seems to help is resetting the dns but that doesn’t work for long. At least for me this is 100% not on my end, and it seems a lot of other people are dealing with this too, so maybe ANet should start giving people answers instead of sticking their head in the sand and pretending it’s not their problem.
