It’s more asking for enforcement of their policies by support staff and having more safeguards on their end, than having upfront security features on the login process. The most important thing that seems to be lacking here are warnings between CS reps that indicate previous attempts at gaining access to an account. If such a flagging system was in place and used, this rep’s actions were just appallingly incompetent.
I can only agree what you said, this was a flaw in their system. But they won’t be telling me or you what they did to prevent it from happening again. I’m just afraid they are going the hard way, thx to that noob hacker, honest people will suffer.
That’s a concern we should all have right now. It’s quite possible that we’ll find out about Anet’s inaction through a crime spree of account thefts. If the information in this reddit post is accurate, Anet has already known about and chosen to ignore this problem for some time now. The most frightening aspect is that details on how it was done have already been publicly posted.
i did nothing say about inaction.
People asking more security why? Security is in place, but support can always circumvent that if they want, even with 2 auth.

ighten if you travel a lot a gaming laptop is nice to have.
We’re just going in circles with these “blame the hacker, no blame the CS reps, no blame Gaile” arguments.
The real question is – What, if anything, is Anet going to do to improve account security?
I get that GW1 is an old game & not actively supported, but this incident speaks to a larger issue that’s been here since GW2’s launch.
Again, why you think they didn’t adapt?
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
I’m in the same situation, a desktop would be better but i travel a lot so i go for a laptop.
So for gaming don’t take a slim laptop. Cooling is important, preferable dedicated cooling for cpu and gpu. As said in previous post you need a rather big budged. As said cooling is important so clean you laptop regularly. And always use throttlestop certainly when win 10.
Why you think they didn’t already fixed this? Certainly they wont say how and when. Only to blame is the would be hacker. I have respect for some hackers who want to prove a point (they point out flaws in systems without doing damage, ex the https security), but certainly not for him.

Don’t mix the message the activist tried to send, with mean reactions from community. It’s two very separate things. I know activism can hurt but it has it’s purpose, do you disagree?
This wasn’t an “activist”, this was a criminal. If someone wanted to simply bring the issue to Anet’s attention, they could have gotten the account info, recorded doing it, and given that information directly to Anet. No need to access her account at all.
This is not how majority of companies work. Unless you can do a lot of damage to their services and/or reputation they will not bother.
Damage and reputation are 2 things, as i can see they reacted relative fast to direct damage. They are also open in communication otherwise this post won’t be open, so i give them credit, majority companies will act else. Also given the fact they try to make the accounts as secure as they get, without losing the human aspect, it’s a difficult balance.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
People asking more security why? Security is in place, but support can always circumvent that if they want, even with 2 auth.
But why? Gw1 is an old game, a lot of players once played that and maybe want to get their account back after years. So Anet was rather easy in questions, as a lot of them didn’t know specifics about their account.
Not many people are also interested in stealing a gw1 account now. So there was a hacker (i don’t call it a hacker), who thought let’s give Anet a lesson now. Probably he was doing this since a long time on unknown accounts, but now he thought let’s take Gail’s account for fun.
Some people say: nice, he has done that to let Anet know to give some more attention to gw1. A Robin Hood in gw1?
Let see what he has done:
1. From now on, honest people trying to get their account back in gw1 will have a hard time, probably they never will.
2. Instead of reporting this flaw, he misused the account.
Not for me to say what they have to do to prevent this again but i’m sure they did already and this will not be in the interest of most players.
So again thx fake hacker.
ps. Sry Gail, he just destroyed everything you stand for, don’t let it come to your hart. The very most people appreciate what you do for them, so please go on like you did.
Seera ? No one has to worry. Account was given away. And that won’t happen again after this. And the wondering thing ? Why you say that? Any proof ? Oh the reddit 50% post, y lol.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
As you said, i don’t believe in conspiracy. It was just luck (maybe with some info inside, but still luck). Look at the chats, he didn’t know what to do at start. Why blaming a gm?, they give all for the game, most of the the time they are working for the company and in the free time they are playing but still helping where they can. What benefit could they have to give a account away. Keep in mind most people work there as if it is their hobby, so certainly they wont risk such a thing. So what you say, no sense.
@ seera read all posts, there is nothing wrong with gw2 accounts security.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
meteox You watched to much conspiracy series.
yep, but the problem will be for the people who are honest in this case. Anet will be from now on a lot less forgiving.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
why cause you are also biased. Larger ? how? They did what they had to do. Yeah sorry, you suffer wait for you ticket all i can say. Maybe: also we did not landed on the moon or extraterrestrials are among us, it’s about the same as you first post.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
willingly —> human ?
if it was not willingly given he couldn’t have the account so ? Human fault
@ oshilator yeah lol and i have y visa
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
k my sry, as for answering on tickets i can only agree it’s very person depending. As for gw2 account safety i cannot agree what you said in y first post. It’s definitely a human fault with big consequences. I hope your issues are solved quickly. (i didn’t say they reacted fast, but relatively fast)
Negligence is not a flaw in their system, if i was effected i would be mad also. But keep to the facts :
1. they reacted relative fast,
2. it’s a human fault not their system
3. yeah tickets they will help you, but could be a bit faster certainly in this case
yeah lol read you first post, it was a misjudgment not a flaw in their system, and you suffer ? Or you want some attention?
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
? the person who had gailes account, that was a lucky shot as he was asking question how to use things. In se Anet was relative fast to prevent further damage, and they will be happy now to help people suffering from this. So ?
y lol, just a misjudgment as any people can do. What you wanna achieve with this post? As i can see ANET acted accordingly.
Firstly, calm down, issues happen. Any change in a big and complex system like this MMO can introduce bugs, even more probable with big patches like the release of new Living Story. And it can happen with any company out there.
Anyway, your issue is possibly related to https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Reporting-players-in-pvp-game-crashes that just got fixed it seems.
I know issues happens, you don’t have to tell me. And i was not anger or so, but this thing was reported 5 days ago. (related to the new features in pvp). But reporting gold sellers keeps this game clean, so that’s why i said that. If a new player reported one and had a crash he won’t do it again. So it was for them a big issue not for me, and nice they solved it, even when they have bigger issues now with the sync.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
Seriously Anet, common you can do better then that. It was a nice patch you give us, but this? No offense, like i said nice patch, there was a lot in it what people wanted. But this is a no go not for me but for you company.

check your time settings
Sirsquishy as you tips could work for some it isn’t an issue for him/her i think . As said he/she has only problems in zerg fights. He/She said having a 970 so i’ll guess cpu won’t be that bad also. In that configuration character limit shouldn’t be an issue. It’s probably the updating of all char’s around, so he’s waiting for server updates. But then again easily checked on cpu and gpu load.
And for the resetting, i saw that also. WHY? not a small company gw2, some service please.
edit: my sry. Was only checking nvidia settings, which are changing not gw2.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
y i know it’s sad, but changing those things will help a bit as your system will be more responsive when information is coming in. Otherwise you only see it a few frames later.
y lol subsample no way Anyway vsync adaptive, also set prerendered frames less would make the game feel better responsive in wvw.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
caedmon did you set vsync adaptive as you not holding framerate in wvw?
Caedmon: In your case it could be a problem with their servers as char limit did help. I’ll guess a lot less information is going around when char’s are limited it was a problem in swtor also. But i’ll guess also, your problems are different, instead of trying different things, monitoring all and then conclude is faster. As a start: cpu load all cores, gpu load, temperatures all, cpu, gpu settings during play, etc.. But y multiplayers encounter was always a problem in mmo maps and it will be, only thing they can do is faster or more intelligent communication protocol or less interaction.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
gw2 tries to get the best out of a system with the old dx9 tech (that’s why laptops have overheating issues with it, no other game is trying to get their specs so far). And i like they doing it this way, because then you can get the best out of any system if you have enough cooling. In your case 20% cpu load is not normal, in gw2 cpu is most of the time (not always) the bottleneck, so stating cpu has that low load, something else is wrong as the cpu is waiting. As stated in many post in this game and other’s, download some tools and try to see what is causing this. Their should be at least 1 thread claming 80% of 1 cpu core load, if not look elsewhere.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
@ RandomWolf what y wanna achieve??
Stating such a thing is in no use (certainly if you do it in different topics).
The game is designed in directx9, so probably they have to stick with it unless they make a new engine for GW3, if they change it now a lot of people will be complaining.
Seeing what they achieve with this engine i would say nice done.
Now most of the problems are not game related, i can’t say any about amd as i never used it. But what i can say is that on most, even old systems, you can achieve an acceptable framerate compared to other games.
If you can’t, most of the time it is hardware, bad drivers, wrong settings, bad connection, overheating, etc..
As for op nice name, but as slang abbreviation i would pick another one unless y trolling. “wb” “fy” “tw”?
edit: just for Wolf, and if you care, read my previous posts, i helped several. So again stating what you do, doesn’t help op. (But then again op was also complaining 2 years ago with his old system.)
Same topics come again and again, solutions are offered, some people do their best to help other’s but they have to say the same thing again and at the end they give up.
And then people like you come for what? If you are not happy, leave the game.
If you want to post here, help them.
Gw2 is not the only game were people have issues, compared to the amount of post here i think they do a good job. If you have a problem which can’t be solved in forum contact them, they will be happy to help you.

it’s mentioned beneath the trailer.
@ Vargamonth “Make leagues feel more rewarding after you’ve placed in your appropriate division” is one of the things they want to work on. If they can achieve that somehow hopefully players can cope with the fact that they stay at their place unless they become better. I don’t mind staying at the spot representing my skill as long as the matches are appealing, i have no need for an extra reward but i can imagine other’s will appreciate this (ex something exlusive for pvp were you don’t need division cross to get it).
Sure, that’s why I say leagues should be shorter (as long as ANet wants to have a more exclusive legend rank).
ok, fair enough there we differ in opinion, i am more for a system were people stay at their appropriate division over the seasons, which will give less blown out matches and keep more people in pvp as their matches are appealing even for the low ranked. Which does not exclude a privileged legend rank for the very best.
So are you also going to say, because your team is a zerg of 70 players omni blob that curb stomps all of the 10 and 15 man groups is winning because yall have higher skilled players? Because that’s basically what I’m hearing from you right now. The fact that you are still under the illusion that their is skill in winning in the current form of the sPvP leagues, just proves my early point that GW2’s Ranked PvP is now a Special Olympics league, since you are consider to be one of the “better players”.
The matchmaker creates both teams from the pool of available players around some ladder position, and stacks those with higher MMR, which is the oly measure of “skill” they have, on the same team. There are definitely other factors, like class compisitions and such, but it’s fairly basic to expect players wiht higher MMR to statistically advance faster.
Which will happen again and again and everyone ends in legend.
S3 good ? If the matchmaking’s parity is not even, it’s a grindfest for the good team. If you want to be competitive you should only get points when winning from an equal or better team not from a bad team. Pips after losing strike common, same for double pips when having a winning strike, that’s just Las Vegas. I’m in favor for the best players to be in legend as it should be, i’ll be happy to be in ruby when the system works. The biggest problem is they reset player’s after a season and then invent some systems to let hopefully progress the good players faster, but yet this is not guaranteed as it is a crappy system. Once the players are settled, this system works against keeping everyone at his own division. In season 1 the distribution of pips was at least correlated with the mmr of the teams. ( you won from a good 2 pips, won equal 1 etc, lost from a much higher no loss). Ok players will be settled much slower, but once at the appropriate division the system will keep them at their correct spot, when the distribution table of pips is well made. S1 balance was bad but that has nothing to do with how the season works, there was also a fixable exploit. The fact that it went slower shouldn’t also be an issue as player’s are already distributed now (not enough but..) when a season starts.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
Aereniel en Dahkeus, if they will progress s4 like s2 and s3 you both be happy but not much of the pvp player base will be left over i wish you luck when both sitting solely in legend waiting for a match.
then druid was a mistake too imo and they should restore ranger…
I have nothing against a DH, but making core guardian again valid is likely to put DH in a super spot again, it was partly cause of the particular DH skills combined with HOT PVE,WvW balance, base guardian was nerved (or not adapted to the power of other classes) this much in pvp. But also when they changed the trait lines, guardian was not in the best spot as correlating traits were scattered around.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
@Dahkeus, you mentioning 2 things:
1. 4/5 or bug’s : this has nothing to do with season mechanics, just bad luck
2. class balance was bad during season 1, but again this has nothing to do with seasons mechanics. This is a balance thing.
Question is what mechanics you like the best, not in what season you had the most luck.
Matchmaking and balance are 2 different things : Matchmaking combined with pips is the system we play in, it was different for all seasons but it should be hopefully steady once they have a good one. Balance however will be an ongoing thing as skills changes.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
lol Dahkeus look behind the exploit. Maybe you just look at far you got s3, for me s3 was best but certainly not the best mechanics. S3 was a dice, if y were lucky y were in the good team if not sry. S1 had at least some correlation with mmr of teams, not the best but still there was some.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
@ shadow : maybe also promote a bit on @ https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/ and let us know the outcome
again buffing DH, problem with buffing DH you will have insta kills again, and again a problem for casual players. DH mechanics are just not for a guardian. Best thing is split up the 2 then you will have range for some tuning.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
season 1 (with correction for exploit) for mechanics, not for the class balance.
Personally, i think DH was a mistake as an elite for the guardian profession, i’ll prefer they restore guardian as it used to be, or at least make some builds valuable again without the need of playing DH. (medition is still doable compared to the rest, but you just don’t have a choice anymore when playing guardian)
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
Still being able to adjust freely the UI, (for example the enemy buff bar) like in many other games would be a nice feature.
@ Zynt exploit can be easily solved by not granted pips when with lower members, offset 2 or something ( or something similar). Meta has nothing to do with seasons. that is balance. Best thing about season 1 was odd’s: good team against bad team, bad team won they had 2 pips. (ideal would be if good team won no pips, bit like in chess or tennis or wathever, you can only gain points when fighten similar or above you). But then they should not reset people in ranks after season, but make legendary atractrive somehow so people keep playing once they reach that.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
Just a question from me. You are planning to do something about mmr on old accounts ?
Difference between playing on new or old account is huge for matchmaking. And as an edit i agree with Malediktus (not for the grindable that was an exploit, but base mechanics in season1) however that’s personal.
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
no shouting is needed he said “match quality” is on their priorty list, better is discuss about why matches are unfair so they can cope with it. (and preferable in a constructive way)
(edited by RedZebra.2345)
Tomiyou ? pessimistic? My post was not ironical. I’m really happy interaction is started, and i’ll hope the rest of this topic will be constructive.
Thx a lot for this comment and i’m certainly we will appreciate your thoughts and directions even if they are not fixed yet for future release.
Lol this is the best one i ever heard. It goes in 2 ways spvp struggles even harder from decisions made for wvw and pve. And you are lucky as you are in the good spot: a lot of attention from dev’s for wvw. As we ?
