Before, it used to be “oh god, there’s an engi on our team”, because the state of the game was such that there wasn’t a serious engi build.

Now there’s a real engi build.

You guys mad?

What are you talking about? Do you just make things up and post them on the forums for kittens and giggles? Engineers have always had a serious build. I mean, alone, what is the monster that is bomb/nade, is that just nonexistant to you?

And valantin, if you think that a zerker LB ranger is some kind of OP counter to engineers (that aren’t even decap) and that you’ve never been beaten by an engi, then I’d be happy to be the first – IGN to the left or in sig. Keyboard turning doesn’t make you cool like stunningstyles btw

engineers are crap. ive never been beaten by an engi both on my spirit and zerker ranger in tpvp. i dont even need to try. the only professions that can beat me 1v1 are condi warriors and minion necros when i’m playing as a spirit ranger.

I know plenty of engineers that will wreck you lol nice clicking and keyboard turning in your vid

oh yeah! quite funny because i couldnt even count how many engineers ive pawned since ive played gw2. i havent even beaten by a single engi in a dueling arena on my zerker ranger.

btw, that was the first video i made and my first attempt. i wasnt even playing my best on that video and i was playing in a dark room.

a dark room? do continue the rest of the story! don’t just leave us hanging!

There sure is a lot of misinformation in this thread. Decap Engi has far too many weaknesses to be considered OP in my eyes. Compare it to a build that is actually OP with little to no weaknesses (Hambow) really puts it into perspective. A decap Engi is simply an effective bunker with more weaknesses and more CC than the average bunker. Call it a higher risk/reward bunker.

I don’t play one, but I’m sure just because I have Engineer in my signature this post has already been ignored and about to be flamed. Such is the way of the sPvP forums!

both are rather straightforward, the warrior is more telegraphed (aside from current pin down/ hammer 4)

counterplay > everything else

yep, not just s/d though s/p even— sword mainhand teleport is kinda kittened. on demand instant gap closer that also immobilizes and you can teleport back with it? you can pre cast pistol whip and teleport. but in all honesty thiefs in general right now are too powerful they fill their niche role, and only thiefs can counter thiefs ;/

Giving them unique animations would solve the problem. But giving them air time would be pretty ridiculous. Now if you buffed all the effects on marks so they’re on par with grenades, then we can give them air time.

Putrid mark is a separate issue that needs to be re-balanced, though.

it wouldn’t be ridiculous it would be a well needed change, marks have always been bs, unique animations MAY solve it if perhaps they are like the animation AFTER fear mark wherein activating the skill puts up some necroish stuff? above you when you begin casting // though i’d prefer travel time because it promotes a little risk-reward (getting up close ensures its easier to hit) though marks are pretty godkitten big so i doubt they would be difficult to land (by that i mean if you miss you probably haven’t been playing the game for too long)

@leeto looking for a tiny asuras hand glowing 1200 range away or any necro for that matter is rather absurd. all of their animations are so simmilar that by the time you can tell the difference you wont be able to dodge in time.

The point at which the difference in the animation is significant enough to discern which ability is being used is too late into the cast for a reaction to be made.

You see necro, you see he has staff, you see him casting mark, you dodge. What more counterplay you want? As most necros just spam marks in 2-3-4-5 then you can even start dodging when you feel hes used putrid mark. Only problem would be if you dont see the necro, but dont think you should be able to counter marks if you cant even see the one whos casting them.
I know it sounds like im kitten, but it actually is as simple as it sounds. You see necro casting mark, you dodge it.

necro auto attack, and the marks all look the same— the problem is lack of iunique animation combined with no travel time on an aoe ranged ability… this isn’t the only culprit to necro (scepter 2 )

it’s nearly the same thing if grenades on engineer blew up the moment the cast finished, or arcing arrow didn’t have travel time— lets be honest here and agree that it’s bs

the radius at level 3 adrenaline is supposed to be big.
just move out of the burning field to avoid the damage.

it’s a point capturing game- how about zerker stance doesnt allow point capping? adrenal skills need to use adrenaline even if they miss— pin down needs a better animation / slight cast time nerf, and hammer 4 needs to be 3/4 cast time

zerker stance does not grant burst damage immunity, so no. but my warrior dun use that skill anyway.

what if zerker stance only grant immunity to blind, chilled, crippled, fear, immobilzed, weakness and deals extra 20% damage at 50% health and extra 50% damage at 25% health?

adrenal skills drain adrenaline on miss? no. cannot agree on that. the 7-10 seconds recharge is already punishing enough.

pin down, better animation, 0.50 – 0.75 activation time i can live with that.
how about changing pin down into “long bow shout attack” ?

i.e. the warrior shouts “TO THE KNEE!” and then launches a fast moving (same arrow speed as of now) arrow to the knee after 0.75 seconds?

at least the victim gets a verbal warning right?
bonus for vigorous shouts warrior, more healing! and lung capacity means -20% recharge time?

the problem i have with preventing blind/chill/cripple etc is that they are preventing proactive defense from the opposer—which isn’t good in terms of skilled play, though i guess you could argue differently. IMO proactive defense that isn’t blanket immunity is generally better for the game—and zerker stance blocks that for quite a long time in addition to giving a ton of adrenaline making it one of the most defensive and offensive skills in the game.

Seems awfully silly, since the other part of this 30 point trait reduced Steal CD to 21.5s. A 1 second daze already isn’t much for a 30 point trait, especially on a 21.5s cooldown.

It seems awful silly that you don’t consider the totality of what happens during this time.

Boons are set in a block priority system for removal, despite trying to cover boons.

Bountiful Theft steals two boons – of which aegis and stability are always at the top.

This allows the steal to ALWAYS daze, which should not be the case.

So, you have a few options here, of which I suggest nearly all of them – first in/last out for boons and condis would be the easiest. Second would be an ICD on Sleight of Hand. Third, but what I intentionally leave out, is addressing bountiful theft, which I think is fine. Whether a dev listens or anything is used is up in the air. However, there are two solid suggestions – address block-style priority for boon removal and/or ICD Sleight of Hand.

I would say that Bountiful theft is the only good way to remove stability in the game, since corrupt boon won’t touch stability if you have more than 5 boons on yourself (which, as a guardian, is very common), and won’t corrupt stability from lyssa ( again, very common).

I would not remove aegis( so if you have it you can have your boons stolen but you can block the daze) still i don’t really see the point since thief is barely viable and don’t know why you would nerf it any further, but whatever, it still makes sense ( steal is instant anyway, so blocking it via aegis is very hard if not impossible).

Cluster bomb has been already nerfed, it’s fine damage wise right now.

Right now there’s nothing i would nerf in thief kitten nal, if anything it needs to be buffed ( S/P, Support thief) while other proffs ( necro-engi-war-ranger) need to be brought down a little.

thiefs are a little too good right now, they are the best at backcapping and still offer pick-offs in team fights, or you could just run pistol whip and do stupid cleave in team fights and have better mobility than any other class along with stealth (which in itself creates map pressure) thiefs definately need to be toned down they have too many teleports / they need to be tankier but have less mobility

if i were to use TAS or run every matchup in the game with in-depth theorycrafting frame-by-frame i would bet that thief would win 98% of said matchups minimum

I like having passive regen better than anything else in the game, a burst skill that covers 75% of graveyard, and more passive heal.

this game just needs more counterplay with skills
i.e travel time on necro skills. They have only kittenty animations thus low counterplay making them frustrating to fight, unless you’re a thief i guess. Thiefs however, have too much everything- as well as low counterplay.

This is about power necro… Look at power necros set and be disappoint, son.
2 channeled skills which are easy to recognize and dodge, short range auto attacks, 1 sec casttimes and obvious and unique animations on dagger3/axe3, focus offhand is so slow in projectile speed (skill 4) and casttimes (skill 5) that it is nearly never used and DS 1 casts for about a second.
There is no problem with “travel times” on power necro, they are only problematic on scep/staff.

but you could just go asura like everyone else, and yeah travel time should definately be added to their skills. you can enjoy your low counterplay bullkitten though keep playing necromancer

1 full second cast for: 3 second Immob, a small amount of damage, 600 range (for an attrition class that’s meant to keep people from running), 25 second Cooldown.

Pin Down:

1/4 second cast for: 3 second Immob, damage and 6 stacks of bleeds for 12 seconds, 1000 range as a finisher on a 25 second cooldown.

Seems a little off centered, especially given the purpose of the dagger/necro class in general, wouldn’t you be able to agree?

My suggestions would be:

Remove 1 bleed from Pin Down.

Make Dark Pact 1/2 cast time, and 1200 range (so it’s a viable gap closer), and that’s it.

Can anyone back me up on this?

Do you guys honestly believe the map is fit for anything that’s even remotely competitive, including solo queue?

I think it’s a great map aside from the cannon and the area it’s housed in. I dont even change my build when playing that map (i play engi 75% of the time)

I liked the bottom of temple….its much better than beach. Though i wish somehow clock tower and its surrounding area could be a map, (it’s my fav area in the game) but Z axis would be a problem for classes without access to blinks.

i also think the camera angles were fine once i got used to it. I started to appreciate the little nooks around the boxes and such made game-play much more interesting—as did the bridge which provided a little Z axis that wasn’t absurd

aoe spam just promotes mindless skilless gameplay

i could argue that aoe promotes better gameplay, or do you reelly want to be killed by constant targeted abilities like ranger auto attack or longbow 2 on ranger? id much rather be dodging things like arcing arrow and grenades—there is alot of options for them/ you dont only have to dodge them.

Aoe forces people to not group unless absolutely neccesary

The issue is that, by and large, it’s easier for people to say something is banned rather than letting a 2v2 meta develop or evolve. This is just a simple case of that short-sightedness. Admittedly, so is Reevz asking for a Moa ban, even though you can block/blind/dodge/interrupt it.

you can also stealth and cast it or cast it out of line of sight and then blink into line of sight. great counterplay amirite? better block every time they stealth!

Im sorry, but me and High Warlord Sikari practiced A LOT with our spirit rannger MM necro comp and succeeded well with it. by telling us we can play your saying “Hey you guys can play but sorry we are giving u a disadvantage by only banning your comp.” I even spoke to some people who are hosting this tourney and they don’t seem to care… this makes me and a lot of people I know sad. if u dont change it i have no respect for whoever made this tourney.

you’re complaining about your ridiculous ammount of pets set up in a game which lets be honest needs less ai and passive play. i wouldnt mind if they banned condi and phantasm mesmer/ and turret engineer.

- Only 1 stun break between both players, which causes sacrificing a minion to do.
- Huge weakness to AoE. (And CC)
- “Trickable” Ai when using ground leverage.

We just had a 2v2 tourney with Temple as the map. Majority of us agreed that it isn’t the best map for 2v2’s. Camera Angle issues, classes with heavy AoE can hit you from under the bridge. LoS is nice, but this area has so much pathing problems. Alot of rubberbanding. Forest is plain, but it’s the best for 2v2’s. Maybe try Khylo at Blue Spawn?

im sorry but beach is the WORST place in the game for anything remotely competitive

You should really adjust the skill more than just numbers, necro marks for example still have little to no coutnerplay. this has ALWAYS been an issue give marks travel time or somthing already.

you should really find an alternative from traits like incendiary power there is no counterplay in that at all. Also be careful with buffing rangers because most of what all their builds do is auto attack. you should really lower auto attack damage across the board and skills like pin down and hammer 4 on warrior need better more discernible animations, hammer 4 should be a longer cast time, it’s borderline undodgeable even if you’re looking for it only..buffing initiative regen is a mistake

1. Counter play. i’m not referring to balance, though it may influence it— but there is a lack of counter play in things in this game that makes it not fun. Whether it’s strong or not it just plain sucks to not be able to counter play things. people shouldn’t have to randomly dodge against some things to prevent them there needs to be a tell or a way to outplay them (marks are a good example, nades in melee range, new hammer 4 for warrior, DS fear, shield4 engi, etc etc) i understand things need their niche, and that’s fine i can accept things like updraft because it has a long cooldown for being instant cast

2. rewards, like seriously.

3. lets have some like amateur/pro tournaments etc where both echelons of play can see some enjoyment, with in-game rewards maybe once a week for some gems for the top 2 teams or whatever, something for players to look forwards to every week.

honestly though unless you incorporate more counter play i don’t see the game going anywhere but down. i honestly feel it’s the most important thing for any game.

also, stop buffing ai builds please we dont want minions/turrets/phantasms in pvp period. they are never fun to play against unless you seriously make pet micro management a thing

It’s pretty stupid and pulls away from coordination— it’s literally not good for the game in any way. it feels like they did it simply for pistol 2 for thief. it feels like things are being balanced by a few devs that play the game casually and only think about what they think is cool.

Really because I ran engi for months when mesmer became a joke ( you want to talk about a class that has to sacrifice almost everything to build for tpvp).
Stabilized armor+protection injection was staple for my build and always will be because engis can also build automated response which would deal with those condi classes pretty nicely as well. Sounds like you just refuse to change your build in order to win.

I’m not arguing that warriors don’t need a tone down they do greatly. I am arguing that you didn’t use the tools available to you to deal with said situation. And that is not ANET’s fault nor is it a skill v reward situation.

automated response doesnt deal with condi classes, it’s pretty easy to outplay, and it’s pretty bad unless you’re running a bunker engi but then you’re useless you might as well be a guardian instead

Sorry Colin, but at this point, no matter how hard you guys try to delude us with such “empty” news, it’s just wont work anymore.
Basically, since one of the very first State of the Game episodes a whole year ago, we have heard Every. Single. One of your “coming soon” changes.

Nothing has changed. You are yet to make PvP more rewarding and fun. You are still looking into new game types. You are yet to support the competitive scene(or whatever has left of it). Though, one thing have changed – A lot less people are listening to your communication and a lot more just quit..

If you go back and read the January state of the game, and July state of the game threads, you’ll find most of what you said above actually isn’t true. We have delivered on the things in those threads we said we would do. It’s totally reasonable to say you’d like us to do more, but I don’t think it’s fair to say we’re saying we’re going to do X and haven’t delivered on any of it. We’ve only recently made any promises about actively working on building game types, and everything we’ve said we were going to do back in January, we have already released.

I just want to say I get the frustration with wanting to see more done, we absolutely would love to see PvP get everything immediately as well. We have however very specifically listed what we’re building, and so far have delivered on all of those things in the timelines listed. It may not be everything you’d like to see, and my hope is as we continue into next year you’ll see everything on your list get checked off, but when raising concerns let’s at least be on the same page with timelines. I can be fair and say we need to do more, I’d ask you be the same with respect to what we’ve said we’re going to do.

As a reminder:

In January, we said we would be doing custom arenas, leader boards, and spectator mode. We did all of those things.

In July, we said we’re going to do a tournament at PAX, have separate solo and team queues for PvP, add ways to get you progressing towards legendaries in PvP, and updating the reward systems for PvP. We’ve accomplished half of those goals already, and hope to have made some real progress towards rewards/legendaries before the end of the year, which still has 2 months to go. In working on rewards, we decided we wanted to do something that’s very work intensive and much cooler for PvP players, so not all of it will be done this year.

By much cooler do you mean more AI and what you devs think are cool builds for pvp? because its been how many months and necromancer’s are still absurd? sword/dagger thieves are still absurd, and warriors are pretty crazy. also are there plans to ever change rangers away from auto-attacking 80% of the time for maximum efficiency in pvp?

yeah im sorry, but i’ll disagree class balance is an entirely different matter, but i think the people who play with me know very well how much i abuse line of sight. it’s part of the game it would be quite boring if everything was open all the time it limits gameplay

i agree, no stunbreak is harsh but without R engis are pretty meh. it’s kinda the same boat with necros as well, gotta blind/dodge random fear mark or lose (or predict instant cast DS fear lol) but all of our stunbreaks are… pretty bad and i feel like there is no reason to not run R for myself and for my team. you might argue that it’s too good but at the same time we have necromancers and s/d thieves and warriors running around (s/d thief is merely the mobility i can beat them but their back capping is bullkitten)

The problem with simplicity i see most of the time, is that it often also comes with a lack of counterplay. Unfortunately 80 or more of say a rangers damage is just auto attacks… This promotes dodging just to buy time

I played Warrior when it was garbage almost exclusively.

Warrior today requires pretty much a pulse, a mouse, and keyboard to play.

just wait for other classes to be nerfed, ele’s certainly don’t need buffs… not if we want the game to go anywhere. everything needs nerfs

I don’t know about you, but waiting for them to nerf every other class for one class to be decent doesn’t sound like good design policy.

large part of the problem w/ game right now is everything is too powerdul / lack of counterplay ele is no exception
