I think you are right in general, but giving the player a tool to choose more difficulty (for better rewards) by himself would probably be the best solution. Some players probably enjoy to smash there way through the mobs quite easily from time to time, others are looking for the little challenge at least…
But that is just one point I’m concerned with when talking about difficulty.. Currently, most difficulty isn’t a result of interesting/challenging created encounters, more because of the damage they do with every hit. The challenge shouldn’t be just because of such numbers…

Sure, most events should be soloable, but asking for events like those with dragons and such should be soloable as well!?
I’m far away of being a hardcore player, far away, but I think the open PvE world is way too easy overall. To less times wrong placed dodges/skills really hurt me as a player… Using them right can shorten the time a(n) fight/event takes, but in general no matter how hard I try, failing is in 90 percent of the time not really an option.

Not even talking about how a down-scaled 80 is destroying mobs, not with 1 shots, but not that much more most of the time…

I wish the open world would provide more challenges overall, also for 80s in lower areas.
I’m afraid with the februar/march updates coming, they gonna improve rewards and implement new or alter existing events, but are these gonna be more challenging/interesting as well?

I really hope, but I’m afraid they won’t… I’m still crossing my fingers!

Events can fail and end in a different direction, but to less times this takes place… Just, if no player is there at all! You can fail, still get a reward and if you succeed next time, you have a even better feeling, because you improved your skills most likely. But if you succeed most events anyway without really pushing your skills, it can get kind of boring quite fast in my opinion…

The point of leveling hasn’t to be what it is/was in all the other MMOs out there.
It could (and in this game I think it want to) just be a tool to show your progress of the character overall… No, not that your damage output is going to be increased from 100 to 1000.
I mean with character progress: “Hey, a few more levels and I get my next utility skill slot!”, “3 more and I get my elite!”, “2 more and I have my next major trait unlocked!” or just “This weapon is cool, but it requires me to be lvl 75… 6 more to go!” or whatever comes to your mind. There are steps in your lvl progress which unlock new tools (weapon set, skill slots, skills, traits, gear/weapons) for you to work with, and these tools are still present while you are being down-scaled… And that’s it! There you have a reason for having a level system in this game, at least in my opinion…

Not to forget about that you as a person most likely have gotten better while you leveled your character.

All this results in a open PvE world that doesn’t provide challenging content for lvl 80s, just (if at all) if you stay in the 80 zones. Sometimes it’s nice to be able to just have a relaxed time in the world, but sometimes your options in the open world are sooo tiny if you are looking for a challenge (in the open PvE world, not PvP/WvW or Dungeons!!!).
Put the more interesting encounters, more (really) dynamic events concern beside, already a slider to down-scale you more then it does default would be great. Each player can decide how difficult he wants it to have everywhere/anytime (to some degree at least) without really effecting other players around! Evolve the reward related to that and I think a lot of players complaining about both of these things would be happy overall!

I mentioned Dark Souls not because that is the difficulty level to go, just that the reward of games can be more than the loot at the end!

Sure, the implementation isn’t bad, but the down-scaling system alone has so much more potential…

It’s certainly difficult to make all players happy, obviously there are those that are fine with the difficulty, but all the guys I know that stopped playing for now (actual casual players) did that because of this primary…

Hi,

I know a lot of people that don’t care about all the zones with their level 80 characters, especially the ones below 80.

Reason for that are two major concerns, the rewards (a point they are working on, if you take the blog post into account), but also the difficulty when you explore the world. If you don’t play content that is above your level (what isn’t really possible when you hit level 80), everything (or at least 80-90 percent) gets kind of trivial/easy mode. You don’t 1 shot things, but you certainly aren’t very challenged.
For me that is without even having to think about the bigger concern than the actual reward issue.
I’m not doing what I’m doing for the reward primary, I’m there to enjoy the time/way that brings me to any kind of reward… And a reward can also be to win a challenging/interesting/at least not easy fight/event, it hasn’t to be something that you find in your inventory! (Did someone say Dark Souls!)
Yeah, there are a few harder/challenging events, but if the hole world should be endgame, playground, also for level 80 characters, you should consider to improve the challenge/difficulty of the game overall.

Additional to that you could give the players the option to get down-scaled even more for more difficulty. That would effect just that player, so it’s kind of his own choice! That doesn’t make it automatically more interesting (just increasing/decreasing numbers makes a fight harder/easier, but that is nothing related to something being interesting, dynamical or so automatically!), but at least gives the player the option to choose his difficulty to some degree.
Build on that you can improve the rewards when someone takes the challenge to be down-scaled that much!

TL;DR: Rewards are a big point when talking about “Give the player reasons to visit zones of every level”, but if the content in those zones is way to trivial/easy for someone that is level 80, the way to the reward won’t be the reason to visit zones, and shouldn’t the way be the reason to do something?
So, they really should consider to improve this part of the game as well!

For me it isn’t clear if that is part of what they want to do with “evolve the existing world”, but I thought I should make aware of it! Because that is actual my biggest concern at the moment when I explore the world with my level 80 character!

January updates - Any sources?

Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided.

I think that is definitaly the right choice and way to go… As long as there is enough space to improve what already is in the game! And there certainly is enough space!

I hope you mean with the bolded text that you gonna increase the challenge in the hole world, especially if you enter 80 zones or areas you are getting down-scaled in.
Most players I know that quitted the game did that because they are missing any real challenge in the open world with their 80 chars and visiting lower maps in that concern is useless and so there is only 1 or 2 zones left that are at least challenging a little bit… Not even because of worse loot (what is certainly a concern for a lot of players as well)!

I think everyone appreciate your effort in improving culling, but no matter what you gonna do… The one and only good (and actually acceptable) solution is no invisible allies nor enemies at all when you are done with that culling topic, at least the player should have the control about if and how many would be shown concurrently! Yes, I know it’s not just a client side thing, but what about games like Planetside 2 and even older games that are/were capable of handling many, many players on one screen, also on server side…
Yeah, that’s easy to say, I know, but I still hope that this is your goal in the end, no matter how long it takes. Thank you again for your most likely hard work and I cross my fingers to get THE solution in the future…

Concerning your current interim change, I can’t give any feedback, because I haven’t find time to play yet.

New Zone Difficulty

God, finally there is a zone that seems not to be kitten easy, not a totally no-brainer like actually all the other zones in 95% of the cases und some people are crying again. I’m sorry, but I like that you can just rush through the encounters from time to time, but this game really needs zones with more difficulty and I hope this is the first of many!

About drakes and confusion: I was able to handle 2 on my own… It was hard and close, but I did it… There is one reason why so many 80s are dying out there… They were trained for nothing out in the open PvE world concerning a challenge, so they are not prepared for something where they actually have to react properly!
This games difficulty should’ve been increased starting at the latest at lvl 30+ more and more…

Those lags + invisible encounters/allies (+ FPS drops) within this big focused events are really disgusting! Whatever is necessary to stop that from happening in the future, you should do it… I can’t even imagine what will guys with a friend invite think after that experience. Why on earth should they want to play that game after that?

I’m all for it when talking about fixing bugs and such things that results in dead players without any chance to come back in the fight (by being ressed by the group) without the hole group wiping on purpose… But please, please don’t cry for WPs in the dungeons like in actually all those others, where you can zerg the encounters to death. Now you at least have to care about downed or even death players without just saying “Hey, use the WP and run back fast!”… Can’t stand that.
If you wipe, you have a checkpoint option and can try it again and can think about what went wrong… And that is absolutely fine!

So, fixing bugs and issues concerning those dungeons = Yes!
Implement WP and such things (repair etc.) within the dungeon = No!

If the out-come of those one-time events are really effecting what permanent stuff will be/stay in the game, then I’m all for those one-time events, even if I’m not able to be part of them…
If such one-time events are going to happen on regular base that would actually be quite awesome, if all the time different players were able to experience things that nobody else aftwards is able to discover, just being able to read/watch the history…
Actually my biggest wish is, make those stuff (actually more events in general) challenging and something you really have to fight (together) for your live and the success of the events… Failure aren’t the end of the world, they just give you different options. You have this actual great option, use it!

Have probably done it about 75-100 times now.
Just yesterday in the last runs it ran me crazy because I supposedly missed the last jump through the broken clock for about 10-11 times in a row (and as said, I’ve done it dozens time without any problems before) and I still don’t see the reason for that, I actually got the feeling I did broke it after those 75-100 runs. Well, the 12th time then did work again, even if I actually didn’t do anything different, but ok…

Not every content can be created with disabled and/or not so talented players in mind… So, are you serious? This clock tower isn’t anything that prevents you from progressing or having fun in the overall game. If you would stuck in your progress because of content you HAVE to do to progress, then I agree with you… But this clock tower is definitely nothing under that category and is just for fun overall.

Apart from that, I enjoyed it and have done it with 8 different chars (every race and class) overall 75-100 times now, just for the sake of fun. There have been times where I missed for whatever reason the really last jump through the clock, especially in my last rounds (so I’ve done it dozens times before already), where I still can’t understand why I supposedly missed it (Bug, Lag!?)… But apart of those, I really enjoyed it!

I know that this is off topic, but this is the second thread that just ran into an issue with the URL…

I’m still annoyed when I change from 2 one-hander weapons to a two-hander, especially when my inventory is already quite full with loot… It’s really easy to loose track of that 1 one-hander that gets placed somewhere in your inventory then, with the potential risk to sell/salvage it because you forget that it’s between your actual loot later on if you get involved in something before you have been able to move it back to your other weapons bag…

so let me try to understand it: it’s not a change in the weapon mechanics, just a quality of life change for people that carry multiple sets on the inventory?

Overall that is my goal…
In combat, there wouldn’t be any difference.
Out of combat, you would most likely have a much better experience when talking about weapon changes and inventory management (because the weapons in those weapon sets wouldn’t take any space in the inventory anymore)!

I was just able to talk to Jue for a few minutes 2 weeks ago, just right before they had their first voice chat meeting. I unfortunately wasn’t able to participate.

Do you still have space for our smaller guild? I’ve talked to my guild crew and our WvW guys seem to like the idea as well…

Not sure how crazy your english talking is in your voice chat, that’s my only worry, because there is certainly space for improvement in my english… But if that isn’t a problem for you guys, it won’t be for me either! ;-)

I hope they learn how to use their mechanics to bring us interesting and challening events in the future, because currently it’s just kind of the same stuff and way to easy 95% of the time…

Is there any chance to expect at least 1/4 – 1/3 of the PvE events in the world are getting more interesting/challenging?
I’ve talked to quite a lot of guild members that are exhausted because of the lack of any challenge out in the open world and I actually feel the same.
Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to just “fly” through the events after a hard day of work, but sooner or later that isn’t satisfying anymore. There was one BWE where it felt quite good, since it feels just diluted…
I don’t ask for a Dark Souls of MMOs (even if that could be awesome to some degree – other topic), but at least in all the zones 30+ there should 1/4 – 1/3 of all events in a zone be hard, not just for players in that level-range or below, even lvl 80s should have a hard, challenging and interesting time there.
You wanted the hole world of Tyria to be end game (not just from a loot perspective I think!?)… Your dynamic event system and the possibility of failing events, which results in a different path those event chains evolve instead of just starting again, players still getting loot and reward for failing events. Players could learn their class instead of just spamming the buttons because it works…

You have so many things in place that would make a game possible with challenging and interesting content, whitout players missing out loot/rewards and without having to do the same “quest” over and over again like usually if you fail something…
Do you use it? Not at all, sadly!

I’ve waited for this game since announcement, I’ve been on GamesCom twice primary because of that game and was seeing a game that I could enjoy for years to come… But if all the challenge in PvE is just dungeons and a really little amount of events, than I don’t see me playing that in years. All my hope is that you use the potential eventually, learn how you can use it and with all the new (and updated?) events that hopefully come into the world all over the place in a regular base, you hopefully show that events can be challenging and more interesting and actually more world changing than what we currently got!

I really hope you are aware of all this, I really hope!

Thanks for this potentially great game, it’s good already, but it could be definitely better. Not just because of what we are discussing here, that is just one of many topics where you can invest to most likely get more out of your (and our?) game…

We additionally could have a separate weapon set menu for PvE/WvW and sPvP, so that you don’t have to mess around with your PvP-weapons in the inventory when creating your build, at least not that much.
Probably you could even have access to all weapons and runes/sigils/amulettes (the 0 glory equipment from the vendors) within that menu for sPvP, but I’m not sure if that is something that ArenaNet wants, if they want you to run to all the vendors by purpose when creating your build…

We spent over 3 hours tonight in the Halloween area of Lion’s Arch trying to figure this stuff out and it still MAKES NO SENSE what-so-ever.

And read the comments in the chat of the game. That’s all anyone is saying, “This makes no sense.”

And I’ve read all the posts here and only a couple people understood my original post. You should not have to “google it” ever. The announcements, the events, how it works, what you are ‘pose to be doing, all that information should be INSIDE THE GAME ITSELF. If you have to leave the game to get that information then you’ve broken the fantasy and ruined the reason that I game. I game to escape into another world, and you are forcing me to leave that world and go open a browser so I can understand what’s going on.

Sorry, but I have just seen the Teaser Trailer for this event (what tells nothing about how something is working), nothing more and I knew what was going on after 15 minutes without asking anybody, without reading chat… I knew what I was supposed to do within that custome brawl, got my item and information what to do to find those books and enjoyed the hunt on those.
So, I’m really sorry, but if you were 3 hours in the game and still didn’t know what was going on… Stop doing it! But don’t blame the game or the devs for not pressing all the information right in your face in-game…

I consider myself a casual gamer. I want to come home after work and escape into the game and have fun. We spent 3 hours on this content tonight and it was a confusing mess, and what little we did figure out how to do was zero fun. How is running around as a spider with 2 power (only 2 attacks) and getting knocked around and never getting a crown after over 30 minutes of trying… how is that any fun? It isn’t. It sucked. Badly.

It was so bad I felt bad feelings for even having asked one of my best friends to go into the game and game with me tonight. The content for this event is really that awful.

I played this custome brawl for 10 minutes when I joined the game and figured out how it is working after that, again, without reading or asking anything from players, just what the tool-tips of the skills and such things are telling me in-game. Then I moved to the book event that the guy in the event circle in LA gives you, enjoyed my time with exploring and searching for those books, got my little reward with a hint to act 2, came back to the custome brawl and got 10 crowns in total within 30 minutes with and achievement for it… Yeah, custome brawl is likely nothing more than exactly this and if you don’t understand it or don’t enjoy it, than god kitten leave it alone, nothing is forcing you to do it! But don’t blame the game if you aren’t able to get a single crown within 30 minutes… Uff…

And I never had the feeling that I’ve to buy something with gems, how some people are complaining in here… I’ve been doing everything I’ve seen related to Halloween and never was in a situation where I felt that I need something from the shop to do it!

Yeah, there are certainly problems, but what you try to sell… No!

Well, I was thinking about a deposit/bank for each individual upgrade. With that, each player can be sure that his/her investment will only be used for that upgrade and camp/tower/keep/castle that he invested in. Additional to that the player certainly can only withdraw the money that he put in…

I’m ok with a new currency for such things, but that won’t change the fact that ONE person has to pay for an upgrade. That would still bother me, no matter if it’s my gold or another currency…

Are there really 1500+ dynamic events in the game?

I notice the lack of events when doing Dailies. 5 needed per day and it can take hours to even get through that. I can think of about 18 events off the top of my head (including “failure” events that only happen if an event is failed) for Queensdale and yet any given day I’ll see maybe 4 of them take place, wandering across the whole map for hours.

I think maybe a larger range for event notifications would help a lot, like how if a huge monster shows up we know from across the map. Maybe minor events should show up from halfway across the map?

And the event zerging will be right back… Please, no!

I don’t want to have an event in the right corner every single second! Sometimes that’s great, but in general I like it more if I stumble into those instead of being led to them…

And finally you can find yourself with a few in events, having at least a little challenge from time to time without the zerg, because finding challenging (and interesting) events isn’t quite easy anyway…

Unfortunately everything you said is true and I don’t like that at all…

Even within my guild at least the half of them are annoyed if I ask them to defend stuff, escort dolyaks for supply to upgrade stuff because you will loose money instead of making some and in the end because everyone knows that we lost a 2 hour effort of supply escorting and throwing money into camp and tower for upgrades (being almost broke because of that) because nobody from the server cared about defending it when invaders come to take it.

Defending something, holding and upgrading what you have got, should be what makes you successul (richer), not just as a server, as a player as well, because – it’s sadly, but – that is what players care for…

I just saw one human player hold the Gate of Arah after all Pact npcs have been killed.

That would still force you to mess around with the inventory, or did you mean something like that mixed with my suggestion?

In the meantime I’ve salvaged my next weapon (I sold one before) by accident, just because it was between my loot (because of replacing 2 one-handers with 1 two-hander it was placed there) after a dungeon run…

There is just one problem that causes this what you are talking about… Too easy encounters, that die in an instant without being a threat at all! But that is a topic that is on the first side since launch (or even BWE), so hopefully that is something they gonna improve!

The death penalty is fine as it is… Learn how to survive and your costs will be less.
And removing the repair costs from WvW would be a bad thing as well, people would zerg more, they would care less about surviving a fight, therefor run into every fight like stupid…

Apart from “2. As a GW2 player, I would like to be able to obtain crafting mats and gear relevant to my crafting level without being restricted to certain zones.”… I like or I at least have no problems with your suggestions, but this single one I really have to disagree, at least with your solution…

It can’t really understand these choices… If there was something in the game that did work, why take it out without giving a toggle option?

It’s probably the same like with the aura around the target that was in the game a long time ago and they defended for a long time… It was suddenly gone without any option to bring it back. I miss it…

Brunners, I’ve seen it by myself, so I’m aware of what you’ve said, but sometimes your 4-5 guys are forced to just watch or let something happen because you would have needed more guys (and unfortunately too often others don’t care if you call out for reinforcements!)…
So, that’s why I just wanted to make our philosphie and activate members/time clear!

This sunday in WvW it was a mess, there have been many times where my skills didn’t trigger at all… I just saw the flashing for the time that I pushed the key, but nothing happened. That day I also had little lag from time to time… What is it?

Hi Jue,

I’m all for it…

We are still a quite small guild (about 25 members) and are actually a german (serious) fun guild without players that have to be online at specific times, so if we do something we try to be successful, but we don’t force our members to be part of something if they don’t want to.
That being said, if we do WvW, we really try to be part of an organized group, not just zerging through the maps, but we are currently just about 4-5 members in WvW most of the time, until our guild is hopefully able to grow more and more until we have at least about 60-80 members, so we have more active members at any given time (because of the fact that we don’t want to force someone to anything).

So, if you don’t see any problems with what I’ve said (and it hopefully makes sense ) I and I’m sure my fellows are happy to be part of the alliance you try to build up in here!

TL;DR:
So, all the informations you asked for:

Contact: Replect.3407
Guild: I Can’t Move [wwds]
Members: Currently about 25 (in WvW currently about 4-6)
WvW times: Hard to tell because of our philosophie, but in generall Mo-Fr at the evenings, between 7pm and 23pm, on the weekends sometimes all day long (CEST)

What is going on here… I played my first time in Explorable Mode (Path 2) in that Dungeon…. Haven’t played much Explorable overall (probably 5-6 in total) and I really had no big problems with Alpha. I actually can’t understand why so many players could have so much troubles with this guy, at least not concerning Path 2, I’ve no idea about the other ones.
I like bosses with a more clear mechanic behind it like this one, not just bosses where you push your DPS and try not to have aggro all the time…

It gets really tedious if you change weapons out of combat, especially if you un-equip your 2 one-handers for 1 two-hander. I’m doing that quite often now in WvW and it’s really a bothersome thing to do with the inventory.
And additional to that I see players doing that quite often now in sPvP for a quick swiftness or such things while running over the map… This should be locked anyway, but if they really want to keep it that way in sPvP, then please, give us a decent UI for that stuff! Hmpf…

I’m going to bring that thread back but, it seems to be one of the first one concerning that after release… I already complained about that in BWE and still think that this isn’t just right.

At least your weapon sets should be locked as long as you are in the match.
There is nothing skillfull about open the inventory, equip a weapon for a second to get a boon out of it and un-equip it again… That’s just a tedious thing you have to do if you want to stay competitive.
If you haven’t choosen a weapon that gives you the movement, than you haven’t choosen it, end! If you want movement, sacrifice something else…

So, I’m all for it when talking about locking weapons and armor, even alone because you are otherwise forced to carry a looooot of weapons with you, just to be sure that you stay versatile in the match, instead of thinking about your build to the end before using it…
And if they reaaally want us to carry all these weapons around to get those boons out of it with a quick weapon change, then hell, give us something like THIS!

There shouldn’t be any reason to mess around with the inventory in a match. Not a single one!

Well, I won’t applause before I experienced that changed bridge repair event by myself, but it sounds like it’s moving in the right direction.

Events really need a boost, especially with many players around… They bring really no challenge at the moment! At least 95% of them…

I understand your points here and I would be happy about constant good rewards as well, but if you can’t enjoy the game just because of this effected loot table, than… You know what I mean!

I actually didn’t realize that my rewards were effected that much, I just played the game.
I’m more concerned about things like dynamic events being no-brainers with many players, but the loot? That, what I get AFTER I should have had fun? That’s a bonus for me, so… If I can’t enjoy my actual playing-time (not the reward in the end), then I question if something is wrong with the game (like the missing challenge within 95% of all events).

So, I don’t disagree with you guys here! I just question your words like Why I’m playing the game with that DR, it’s wasted time!?

I’m all for it when talking about lock weapon sets in a match and balance downed state between classes, but I don’t like that players could defeat themselves with an additional skill like you suggested… The opposite team should have the control about, do we finish him or do we leave him bleeding out (with the risk of getting revived) and take out that player for as long as possible.
