All my objections against the downed state really come down to one point.. I need to stop pvp’ing… click F, get interupted, click F again.. and wait 2 seconds.. 5 seconds that could be better spent trying to kill the next enemy.. (And thats if I am in melee range.. lets not talk about the amount of time you need to waste if you want to finish of a downed player from a distance.. )
Downed State – It slows pvp down.. and slow pvp is bad pvp. (back to my original post, it ruins the “flow”)
but youre forgetting the cruicial part about it being a team effort, you shouldnt be the only person trying to finish off opponents, there should be a couple people doing that work to guarentee handing out a defeat
as i said in my earlier post that even when i got interupted there were other people planting the banners and finishing off the opponent but i was still getting credit, one reason i like running with premade groups is that you get people who understand that there is an objective beyond getting kills/defeating opponents
even playing a thief i dont just run around beating the kittens out of people, i actually go and cap points and such as wellWhat is it with all you people and the team/group effort?!
Teamplay is a cruicial part of pvp, but it isn’t the ONLY part of pvp. Gw2 seems to have forgotten that.One of my favourite things to do in any MMO is beating the living kitten out of somebody! (followed by the mandatory corpse-jumping session)
The downed system requires you to have a team, it slows you down, the animation takes all the excitement out of the kill… I could carry on for ages naming stuff thats wrong with the downed system and how it makes pvp worse.
I can’t say one thing about it thats better then the classic “healthbar 0 – death – wait for ress or release” system.
It doesn’t require you to have a team? Are you seriously that ______ (insert word, as currently I don’t even know how to describe you) to not manage to “down someone”?
I understand that you think this slows down the game, it’s a valid reason (I don’t agree with it, but hell, not everyone thinks/does the same) but you can’t tell me it’s impossible to down someone.
Roll a mage/ret/rogue in WoW and go burst stuff down if that’s what you like. Don’t try to force the change on the rest of us who enjoy it.
It does require you to have a team, unless its 1v1, but when was the last time that happend in WvW?
And you can’t disagree with the fact that it slows down pvp, its a fact not an opinion. (?!)
I do admire Arena.net for trying new things, getting rid of the holy trinity (tank – dps – healer) is the best example of this gone well, downed state is an example of it gone bad.
(I am unsure if you are allowed to post links, but I’ll risk it.)
Change to the death system gone well:

Actually yday. I ended up killing some mesmer 1v1. But, that’s besides the point.
Ok, you say that the “problem” is that it slows down PvP in WvWvW? Are you one of the people who rushes in the middle of 10 opponents because “omg I downed him!”. What’s the problem with letting him stay down and finish him off when there is no immediate threat?
No, do not confuse fact with your opinion. It’s the game mechanic. By what you’re saying, we can conclude that every single cc ability in WoW is “slowing down PvP”. In which case PvP would be left with who can mash buttons quicker.
I ask you again, do not ask for something you are not going to enjoy (because it will be too similar to what we have out there).
EDIT;
Which community are you a representative of?
EDIT 2;
Because we all know Toast is gonna come in here and say I’m a fanboy, I’ll still play WoW. I care for entertainment, not where (which company) it’s coming from.

Oh I’m sure you read the rest. You can pretend you didn’t to avoid what I said, but the point still stands. There are benefits to the way the game works. There are cons also. It’s a matter of taste. Live with it or leave.
Also, funny how “no interesting point” comes down to “doesn’t agree with me”.
Ah well.
And higher HP or lower dmg wouldn’t work as it would be literally impossible to kill some professions. I’d suggest you learn to play with the benefits “downed state” can bring as it will make your gametime better. The other option would be to leave the game. Your choice.
But this is exacly what the down-state is! Even u have more chance of doming something useful becouse you have all your skills insteed of 4 from which 1 is attack and 1 is a channel heal.
Also the scenario i gave u its a SCENARIO i made it up so you can see the issue in the down-system. I know fonboys like u are going to protect the Anet vision for all costs but comon EXPLAIN me how in this scenario its fair?!
How its “cool” to leave points insteed of defending them becose there is another player on the horizont insteed of the one that youre fighting with.
Are your density it so high that u cannot even think of it in open mind ?
Why would ANY scenario in which you are 3v1 be fair? Tell me one game where it is. Is an RMP vs a ret/holy paladin fair?
If anyone is “dense” here my friend, it’s you. We could argue (again) that your inability to adapt is a strong indicative that indeed you lack some skills (in the brain department as well as game). But, I’m not here to call you names, nor do I appreciate you calling me names either. So let’s go beyond that.
I told you a situation (and not only me) where the “downed state” is preferable to “go zerg x”. Even from a standpoint of the one who killed an opponent (obviously, the downed player feels “better” with how the game currently works). But, let’s discuss when you’re the one who is downed. Would you really, in the current setting of the game, change that?
Let’s take a rogue back in WoW. You’re in a battleground, you’re protecting a node… a rogue comes, kills you and tries to cap a base. Your friends come and try to kill him. He doesn’t die, but runs away. End result: No node taken, you’re dead.
Theif in GW2 comes, downs you, tries to cap/hold a node. Your friends show up, shoo him away and most likely kill him (unless he is good and runs away or fights somehow 2&1/2 vs 1 (remember, you’re not dead but downed, that’s why 1/2)). End result: No node taken, you’re being resurected, enemy is likely dead.
Do you see why it’s better from a standpoint of a defender? Good, we got that clear.
On the other hand, 2 of you attack a base. You get to fight some kitten warrior and he downs you. While he’s trying to fight with your partner you either get up ur help kill him(and by doing so lowering a chance of a single prof killing the 2 of you, making it easier for “casuals” as you put it to put up a good fight) therefore helping you out. Think of WoW (sorry, but this is the game I came from, and most of my examples will be from there) in where a single rogue can kill a spec while his partner is blinded into disarmed and then unable to do dmg due to rogue being under CoS. You get a rogue vanish afterwards and voila, a single class killed two (ofc, doesn’t always work, but in GW2 it can NEVER work…unless completely outplayed, which is ok with me).
So, I just gave you two situations where it is benefitial for you to have a “downed state” vs “straight up dead”… what now?
As I said previously, it’s a matter of taste. Do you see why I told you the option is to either adapt or change the game?
I agree with what they are doing.
As long as a slip of a tongue (the 4 letter words we all use) is not banned, I’m completely fine.
Imo, it’s a lot better than listening to all the crazy things we used to listen to in all the other games we came from.
I just yday found out you can actually sell them to the vendors. Tried the regular merchant a couple of times and it never showed under “sell” tab. Then figured that I couldn’t sell at all and that the TP is the only choice.
(didn’t know you could sell to the Armor and Weapon merchants obviously)
I’m sure that I’m not the only one like this. Give it time and people will realize that they are actually getting a lower amount of money from TP than from a vendor and it will work out towards what you wish.
Truth be told its casual game for casuals so yea it propably stay the same.
Too bad cose the competetive part of games like this keeps them afloat, which GW2 atm lacks.
Soon there will be little players going PvP becouse sucha nonsenses as downstate (but not only) and then its just small step to abandoning the game.
Keep your rock solid “Anet is great and even kitten they make is made of gold” guard and soon only ppl like will play it.They keeps saying how much they want to PvP to be balanced and down-state is not the way period.
EDIT: Ohhh the kittenCensorship :*
Fascinating concept. We enjoy the “downed state” more than “omg blind x, poly y, burst the kitten (I knew it’d be censored so I wrote it myself :P) out of z”, we are casuals? What kind of thinking is that?
We can in that case argue that all that fail to addapt to the “downed state” are noobs? Does that make sense to you?
Anyways, it’s a matter of taste tbh. I prefer that over WoW style (obviously) and I think it brings a little “extra something” to the game. I don’t consider a player dead till he is dead, not downed. In my opinion, you don’t really have to kill him every time either. As others mentioned, sometimes it’s a good idea to let someone try to get him up and then kill them both. You know, like bait.
EDIT;
The stupidity of down-system is that it force ZERG groups.
As I mention before in one of my posts its better to leave a point for players to take it then defend it. And its all becouse you CANNOT take one of the with u to the grave.
You outplay them get one down and even nuke him a bit in down state but it wont matter cose u will end up on ground too and die from DMG or F-inisher.
Result? One less alive soul on battlefield for your team while they have 2.ZERG ZERG … such fun
Im talking mostly about sPvP not WvWvW since I dont enjoy it at all becouse the lack of purpose. WvWvW feels kinda like “Running Simulator 2012”…
You constantly make 3 vs 1 situations instead of 1v1. Your problem seems to be that the other team is better than yours, or you have extremely bad luck with your partner choice. You down a player, great… you’re doing fine. All of a sudden, 2 more of the other team come and you die. What I see here is the failure of your teammates, and not the problem with the game.
And higher HP or lower dmg wouldn’t work as it would be literally impossible to kill some professions. I’d suggest you learn to play with the benefits “downed state” can bring as it will make your gametime better. The other option would be to leave the game. Your choice.

This one is more of a bug;
A guardian skill named “Leap of Faith” (Greatsword, number 4 default) does not work on elevated terrain. Every time you use it and you’re a bit above the mob (let’s say you’re on a hill and they are at the bottom) you NEVER hit the mob. It’s a miss every time. Infact, sometimes the character jumps in the air and does it well above their heads (which ofc should be a miss and is classified like that)
Anyways, would really like this seen into as I love the ability :P
(watch and learn Blizzard, we told you years ago Rets need that ability)
EDIT;
changed the name of the topic as Question seemed wrong now :P
You get a mix of drop levels when you level down to a zone. My level 80 character typically gets drops all the way up to mid-70s gear, no matter where I am, but it’s mixed in with stuff that’s more level appropriate. I’ve actually started collecting some mats for my post-400 crafting disciplines this way.
But you won’t get anywhere near the consistency of running a zone that’s at your level. The down-leveled drops are just a little reward for being in low level zones. They aren’t supposed to match those of your nominal level. Basically, if you want the better gear, work for it where it’s meant to drop, not where you can burn through mobs without any concern for your safety.
Thank you for the answer
You should have started your own thread with this! Not posted it on someone elses! Title it ‘The entire game feels like end game’ ^^
I might be able to do that. Was there a rule on the forums about re-posting things you say? I don’t want to break any rules. - I would post it though if it would help some people enjoy the game a bit more.
update: —-I sent a pm to a person of importance to ask if it was ok.
I will repost it when I get a reply and make sure.
You really should write that. Excellently written!
Sometimes I hear the sound of this in the background of my mind (when thinking about GW2);
:)
See, this is what is bugging me also.
I’m lvl 53, was in some 15-30 zone 2 days ago, and a rare (is that yellow?) lvl 52 dropped from a spider for me (and a couple of greens that were lvl 50-53). The rest of the drops were lvl 14-18 (depending on where they dropped)… so, my question is;
What is the deal with this?
What drops should I expect?
Killing absolutely everything in creation (rabbits, raccoons, chickens etc) advances the indiscriminate slayer achievement. Thank you Arenanet for rewarding such violence.
What does that achievement do? I mean, how do you get it?
I killed many a rabbit and nothing yet
I hope they roll out a “barbershop” type feature that would take care of this – change hair colour/style and/or accessory colour.
This really. I never knew Orange dye would look so sweet on a little Asura Guardian, but now it clashes with my red hair. I wish to go get some other hair color…
ok well whats some of the stats i should focus on for a guardian doin melee and say one doin range?
Guardian doesn’t really have “range”. There is scepter, but the dmg is laughable.
It is a great weapon in combination with Torch and a GS in the other weapon slot. You can get to enemies rather easy, which, obviously, you want as a melee.
Again, the traits/skills depend on what you like to play. So far I’ve tried the shout skills/traits (good for support + alot of retaliation) and spirit weapon (some extra dmg, some extra defense) and of a mix of purely defensive and purely offensive skills, and each build has something nice. It all depends on your playstyle and what you wish to achieve.
I like the burning skill/trait combo also. I walk around and people spontaneously combust :P
@Rock
mitigation and regeneration doesn’t do too much in pvp, i’d much rather have the extra hp the warriors do. only running signets is a bad idea too, the bonuses are not worth it, you’ll still just be a bad warrior.personally i run GS with healing signet, the skill that changes conditions to boons, “save yourselves” and the swiftness skill. i don’t really use my elite skills at all…
my gear is more or less…superb and i still feel weak.
lvl 76 exotic GS (buying a valkyrie pearl lvl 80 today for more vitality and power at the cost of critical chance)
full lvl 80 exotic set with 6 superior runes of the dolyak. that set alone is worth 20g+ in materials.
First, to clarify, I’m only lvl 53 so far, and the experience I have in PvP comes solely from WvWvW.
Anyways, what I found out;
I can stand toe to toe with ANY class (that I’ve seen so far). Granted, they might not have been the best players, and that’s why I won, but my experience so far tells me that the amount of HP a guardian has is NOT the determining factor in whether or not we are tanky.
I used all of the skills you mentioned (I do use Tome of _ … can’t remember the name, but the 30 skill point skill…you should try it out. Great support and healing abilities – Paladins LoH from WoW, but for 5 people is one of the skills :P) and they worked for me. Retaliation is a great “ability” for me tbh. I am currently running with a spirit weapon skill/trait and the shield gives me some extra defense also.
Anyways, what I’m trying to say is, if you get a barrier (let’s say one), the signet heal, “save yourself” and the shield from spirit weapons, I don’t think there is anyone out there who can kill you 1v1. If you’re good at switching/using your CDs, there are times where you can kill 2 people alone.
I know this sounds mighty kitteny of me, and I don’t wish for you to think that I believe you’re a bad player or something similar, but give it some more time, play around with traits/skills/weapons and I’m certain that you’ll find that we indeed do not fall behind in the comparison to warriors (talking about 1v1).
Well, it can get expensive and it does look nice, but I think it also depends on the race you play as.
Probably makes the biggest difference and is most worth for Sylvari since I haven’t encountered (yet) any other way of aquiring their natural plant armor which is, in my opinion, the most distinctive piece of “clothing” in game. No one else can wear cool-looking protective plants.
Go hug a tree or something
2 questions;
1) Why are you blue?
2) Is that Darth Vader?
OT;
I <3 the game so far. Made about 6 of my IRL friends buy it too :P
(which reminds me, is there a “recruit a person” reward?)
Can each and every profession fill each and every role just as well?
Seems so,yes.
I’ve been a “tank” with my mace/shield combo.
I’ve been a “DPS” with my greatsword.
I’ve been a “healer” with my 2H staff.
Especially since you use traits/skills to further boost whatever you wish to be.
As other people said, guardian is a good support healer. When I started playing I wanted to be a support healer, and going scepter (or mace)/shield + 2hstaff seemed to be doing ok. Especially if you take the 30skill point Tome.
I’ve been lvl 80 for a while now and reset my traits quite a few times. basically i’m not TOO happy with the class atm, i expected them to be very tanky while dealing little damage…like a paladin.
however at lvl 80 and in full exotic armor my lvl 80 guild mate (warrior) has the same attack as me, MORE crit, MORE armor and MORE hp with way worse gear.
my latest reset was to full defense. i’m running a greatsword with knight exotic set and superior rune of the dolyak which gives me these stats:
2600 atk
38% crit
3200 armor
15250 hpthe 3 first are good but i completely lack hp….in pvp with my gear there i have about the same attack and crit but 2800 armor and 23000 hp. that works really well and i can sometimes beat enemies 1v2 with my greatsword.
We are designed to have lower HP than warriors. While we are “tanks”, our mitigation/regeneration over time is what makes us tanky, not the amount of HP we have.
Signets are your friend =D
Found 1 more “issue” yday during the day, so I’m gonna write it here not to make a new thread;
Got a Trident with +3% dmg vs Ogres. I dunno if ANet actually made underwater Ogres, but if they didn’t, the fix might be great
(make it 3% dmg against the slimy/disappearing mobs – can’t remember the name)
TY!
Yes, I would pay.
Then again, I dunno when I will do everything this game has to offer so far, so it might be a waste of money…
Greatsword / Scepter + Torch.
So cool burning people!
(Traits and skills are linked to spirit weapons, so not only do they need to fear me, they need to fear my sword, mace and my shield!)
Doing all the quests, waypoints, PoI, Vistas and skill points in a single map will reward you with a nice bonus (exp, money).
I didn’t know that until I read it yday in a chat somewhere. Now I wish that I had time to go back and do them all in the zones I went through so far.
I have seen myself insulting people, being banned 3 days.
So, you were banned before?
Pretty much if you just tried logging in it is you. The rest is based on your network setup and such. It should show you the city and country too. Mine did.
That’s the problem
It doesn’t show my city. Shows another one which is a couple of hundred kms away.
That’s why I need to check the numbers, to see maybe that’s what’s screwed up (the name of the city)
But, I figured it’s me still, ty :P
Hello all,
How does one check their IP adress on W7?
I got the “authenticate login” but I don’t know what to compare it to.
Thank you in advance!
Hey all. Sorry, this might not be a bug, but more of an issue;
I received a mail offering me to buy gold, and I really don’t want to see that. Nor do I want to see “visit _______.goldsellers and buy gold for real money”.
So, my question is, how do I report them?
I have nothing against them really, they are doing their job (such as it is, but it’s a hard time out there, getting ANY job is difficult), but I don’t want their services, and I will never want them, so I’d love to be left alone.
Thank you for the help
Umm… what’s going on? I quoted someone a min ago, and now I can’t see the rest of the thread?
OK, this might sound stupid, but its fair to check…
You guys know you have to go to a Trade Post NPC and get the money from selling, and the stuff you bought there, right?Are you for real?
It’s a legitimate question. You have no idea how many people I had to explain this to while they were crying how the TP is robbing them. They ended up going there and then saying “oh, I didn’t know that”…
Anyways, my question, is this new? I mean, did this just happen today? Because TP worked for me yday night.
Hello, I feel your pain. I’ve been in WvWvW a couple of times (I’m on a high populated server, so not many opportunities) and it’s great fun. I’ve seen some people in there for hours upon hours which makes it hard for now players to “get in”.
It is a bit frustrating, but as someone mentioned, transferring would work for you.
What I would like to ask for, seems like a good idea to me, is to get a single “join battlegrounds” button. Basically, it will give you any of the 4 battlegrounds, whichever has a space open, instead of queuing for only 1 and then hoping that it will call you. Seems to me like a small change, but it would make player’s life easier.
Good luck in finding your spot in WvWvW OP.
