I have a friend who stopped playing. She is what I would call casual.

She plays for having fun. She can not find fun lately.

- I showed her the labyrinth and she told me, this content is so stupid, she will never play it again.
- She thinks in general, that zerging is stupid, challenge-free and no fun.
- Crafting with a guide or wasting tons of resources? That is no fun.
- She likes, if I give her free items, but as ascended stuff is not tradeable, she thinks that stuff is not fun, as she will not be able to obtain it (grinding ressources is no fun for her).
- She likes to stay on a map and finish it. She does not like to be forced to go to special maps and do time gated events aka LS or missing out story.
- She likes challenge, so we go against champions together. She does not like, that challenge is not rewarded, but super easy farming is.
- She doesn’t like the story, as most of the time, there is no story, just events that are overfarmed and mindlessly boring.
- For her, Dailies are no fun, she does not want to be forced in doing content to get rewards that are necessary for other rewards. For her it feels like a grind in a grind in a grind.

I could go on. But for the idea of GW2 to be a fun game even for casuals, the content added is mostly not fun (subjective) for many players (educated guess).

You do know that everything is not for everyone, right?
Obviously, she doesn’t like the game. That’s all you could have written. There is no matter if she’s casual or pro, the fact that she doesn’t like a single aspect of the game, would more than likely mean that she doesn’t like the game.

I can be as subjective as her if I wish to, and go through all your points and “show you how you’re wrong”, but that would be pointless as we all think different.

Bottomline, she needs to stop playing if she’s not having fun.
Go outside, find a bf/gf and go do the dirty…that’s waaaaay more fun

I’m a casual myself. Every single living world event I go and check out. If I like them, I try to finish them. If I don’t like them, well, guess what, noone is forcing me to do it.

I have half rare/half exotic gear with various stats and don’t play the “cookie cutter” spec, but play what I enjoy. If I want to go in a dungeon, I make myself my own team of people who won’t force me to be in berserker gear.

If I want to play WvW I try to be useful. I die alot (1v1), yes, but I don’t care as long as I’m having fun. If I feel like zerging, I’ll zerg. If I feel like scouting, I’ll scout. Again, noone is forcing me to do anything, so I do what I have fun doing.

That’s the entire point of this game, right? To have fun?

I don’t know tbh. I have a horrible memory. I called it a blob, but it might have just been 20-25 people from the same guild, but due to the fact that there were 5-10 of us, we just kept getting “roflstomped” and it seemed like a big size blob.

Well, you are ofc right in that regard, it would be unfair to those people.
How about a combination of objective/no fight? … so, you’re either a scout (next to objective of somesort) or you’re fighting. If you don’t do either of those, you get a kick.

Or even better, a random message every 15mins asking you to click yes/no if you’re still here. If you’re afking, you will get a kick(as in, you won’t respond yes). If you’re in the middle of a fight, you won’t get the message.
That way the flow of people coming in the BL/BG would speed up, as more people (the ones that are afking) would leave and more people would then have a chance to come in. The people who play, and I mean really play, not afk, they will not be affected by this.

I dunno, it just seems that we’re, while being even in numbers, outnumbered when in an actual fight.

I have to admit tho, yday was a much better night than the other day (even though the lag was horrible).

First off, to explain; I’m not a pro, or a dedicated wvw player (or a dedicated PvE,PvP player either, I play for fun) but I have experience in PvP fighting as it’s something that I enjoy.

I’m gonna write down some observations from a “casual” POV;

Desolation prime time is horrible. Now, it can be due to “PvE” players coming in for their achievements (I’m not judging, it’s a good incentive to play wvw more) and simply not following the commander, but I honestly believe there are greater problems. I was in UW BL yday at around 8pm CET… at one point, there were 5 (five!) people with the commander while we had a queue before entering. I went back to count (after getting wiped 4 times by AG blob that, at that time, started to take keeps off of us) and we had over 20 people just afking at the start. Then we had about 10 more who were buying stuff off of vendors, and about 10 more who were running around and probably waiting for the rest of the guild (maybe farming, dunno)…

so, all in all, about 30% of the people in the entire BL was not even cannon fodder, let alone doing something worthwile with the objectives…now take into account the amount of people who solo roam, or are doing jumping puzzles etc. and we’re almost up to 50% of players not actually doing anything for the server.

With that in mind, you can’t possibly expect us to give you the opportunity for a better fight.

In my experience, Deso puts up a good fight when there are even numbers of people fighting, regardless of people not being on TS, but it’s rather hard to win anything when your blob has twice as many people as ours.

I don’t really know the solution to fixing this, but something needs to be done.
An AFK timer doesn’t do anything as people move a bit and it’s restarted.
You can’t even put a “no fighting timer” because there are scouts out there who don’t really fight, but rather enjoy reporting, so it would be unfair towards them.

Maybe “objective AFK timer”, as in, if you’re not in the vicinity of an objective (attacking or defending) for more than 5 mins, you get a kick.

Sorry for this being so long. Just had a feeling that something needs to be done to make wvw more enjoyable. Maybe some of you can come up with something…

Wasn’t a particularly good afternoon/evening… Miller had Bay, Hills and Garrison and were mostly farming us even though there were more of us then them…
First time I’ve ever seen people rage on Serial (who I think does a great job usually) but it was, in a way, needed… there is no reason for 40 of us to hide against 20 of them (pulling # out of my kitten , but the ratio was like that) especially when they made a mistake a turtled in a wrong place… we had 2 ways of getting to them, but ended up doing nothing (or actually, doing nothing as a group, but people dying left and right due to the inactivity of Serial)
I wasn’t on TS so I don’t know what he was telling the peeps, but it just seemed a strange strategy.

I would like to thank Novembraria (or something similar) for leading yday morning at FR… s/he was patient and did a great job getting us to win points… plus, on the very positive side, s/he actually wrote in map chat what they are doing, not only saying it on TS.

Half of you are complaining about grinds…sure, that’s a valid concern, but, what’s the problem here? Is someone forcing you to do it? … I mean, I’ve been playing since start-3, and have taken a break of about 4 months or so during the last winter… I came back, and I can still do everything that I did then, no matter the fact that some peeps have a shiny I don’t have. Ok, I might take 20 mins instead of 15 on a path of somesort, but is that making such a HUGE difference?

I only did 1&2 so far (for both Evon and Kiel) and the fact that it’s hard makes it so good for me. I will definitely try out 3&4 today, maybe I’ll succeed at that too

I play a guardian (GS/Staff) with a WvW build and Knight’s gear (rare) and I’m pretty sure that it would too easy if I had better gear.

What I don’t understand is why does it seem like it’s 3 times harder when you get company… it was a “stroll” for me the first two times I did it on my own (again, only parts 1&2), I ended up with 40+ kills both times, but when I came with a friend (who is a better player than me usually) we barely managed 30… does it matter that I had another person in our party without him actually being present at the trials? (he was in group, but not doing the trial)

I have not read all the above as it’s quite long (and I’m at work and lazy to read :P), but my recommendation would be to drop the “WoW mindset” from the start.

1) There is no need to rush to 80… enjoy your time…explore, fight, socialize!
2) When you get to 80 you’ll feel like GW2 is a big grind… it might be if you’re up for that, but it doesn’t necessarily mean what it will be. You can enjoy the game even without the best gear there is
3) Learn what and when do dodge…probably the most important thing

If you really want your candidate to win, why not make that “extra effort” from the very beginning?

I’ve spent about 6 hours yday during the day in wvw (different BGs) and Bamja was the only one who actually did something SMART… the rest of you “commanders” out there really need to start using your brain…
Big shoutout to the ______ (fill in the blank any way you wish) who managed to lose to a smaller blob because “what is tactics – why AOE a small entrance when we can move 50 feet back to open ground and let them pwn us”…

Also, to all commanders, for the love of god, stop stacking for no apperent reason. There is a time and place for this, and standing in the middle of a tower AFTER you took down the gate and there are xy number of ACs hitting you, IS NOT SMART!.

Ok, I might have been a bit too harsh… it’s not like we have no good commanders… Candy, All shall perish, Serial Clicker, Ru-bi-o(OOOOO) …they are all very good commanders…but some, well, some just need to give up the position or something…take back the 100g, cuz you’re just not meant to lead. Sorry, but that’s how I see it.

So, we came to the conclusion that noone likes Viz. How about we farm them 2v1 server for the rest of the matchup?

Quite simple really… either Deso or AR will “take a bullet” and lower the defences(Facerub as it’s popularly called) , then the other server will clean up the Viz people. After we do it the first time, we let the other server take the bullet next, while we clean up the Viz peeps…and alternate like that till the Viz people all leave due to the amount of tears… anyone in?

So, I got a question for the Frenchies… if you can choose freely, who would you rather attack, your fellow French from the other server or Desolation?

I’m asking because it just seemed so unfair to me tbh… I’ve spent about 8ish hours this weekend in WvW and in 90% of the game it has been us vs both of your servers… first one then the other, then the first one again … it would be alternating completely unless we lost and one of you took a tower/keep/camp…then the attack from the other server would stop until we get it back again…

I gotta ask, how do you manage to complain about getting an optional chest done while doing what you like?

Cuz that’s just what I read… you said that you did something that you like (WvW and Champion in MP) and you got 4/5 done for the daily…while doing what you like… and you complain that you “have to” do 1/5 when you don’t like it… and the best thing is, it’s only 1 out of another (6?) options available…

Sure…except in this daily you have two specific parts of the world to get kills in(so if you say, want to kill stuff in Orr, those aren’t happening). You also have crafting, so if you don’t do that, I guess you are crap out of luck. You have a dungeon and not everyone has time or the desire to do that. Then you have WvW which the overwhelming majority of the community doesn’t do.

Usually, I would agree with you, but as someone who goes out of his way to do the daily, I don’t think I’ll get this one done. I simply don’t have the time or the desire to go so far out of my way to get it finished.

a) you can “craft” 20 jute scraps into whatever they are called and do the daily… takes 5sec?
b) that’s exactly why they have options… if you don’t like dungeons you do WvW and vice versa … if you don’t like gathering, you go kill… if you don’t like killing, you craft… if you don’t like everything, then don’t do the kitten daily… what do you expect, for them to hand it to you for loggin in?

If you like WvW give it a shot… the tactics changed alot, and now people actually know what to do

… I mean, it’s rather thick, not slender, but it’s definitely the longest “cold weapon” in the game :P

I came back about 10 days ago, and yes, I’d recommend to you to try GW2 out again. Multiple reasons really;

a) it won’t cost you anything to try
b) game keeps changing constantly…something that (in my opinion) is great
c) try out something “new” which you didn’t do previously… I’m doing WvW after half a year and it’s like a complete new game due to the fact that people actually learned how to play (actually, tbh, now i’m one of the noobs :P) … I’m sure the dungeons are the same.

A similar thing happened to me too

I bought the game when it first came online, and even though I managed to get a character up to 80 I wasn’t really “feeling” the game. I liked it, don’t get me wrong, but after a couple of months I gave up…
I came back now after half a year and am currently very much enjoying myself. It just took a bit of a break (not from GW2, but rather from MMOs) and now I’ve been logging in every day for the last 2 weeks

all commanders from deso server meet in a big room with round table. then we draw straws. who gets the shortest runs deso BL that week:P

Do tell tho, I had complains in Eternal yday that “Deso has no scouts”, but then when I do report (in /map) nothing ever happens… what gives? Is there any other way (preferably where people will actually respond) to give the info? Like, a big “wvw chat” that is not /map?

It was the Mistwrought Vault thingy that I’ve been at. What happens when I use both keys? I mean, I’ve read (now) that it’s a chest reward, but, does it have any influence on the outcome in the WvW map? You know, like we get the dredge to attack if you hold some points and such?

I have an additional question someone could perhaps answer;

Is there a way to return from WvW to the place where you entered it from? Every time I leave I go to the gate and ofc end up in LA…which then means additional silver pieces to get to the place where I was before.

It might be a common question around here, but as my search function doesn’t work for some reason (any help with this would be great too =D) I can’t seem to find an answer so I gotta ask it.

Anyways, I was in a battleground the other day and I came across a person who went to “open something up”. As I wasn’t around for over half a year, and back when I did play I wasn’t aware of it, I went to check out what he’s talking about.

I’d write what the name of the “thing” is, but I have no idea right now and I can’t access the game to check it out, so I’m gonna explain it and hopefully soemone will help me out

West part of the map, it looks like you’re actually going to leave the map altogether. Go through caves, then up a “mountain” and jump (with a speed boost) through some waterfall… once you do that, you begin one path of a jumping puzzle to get a “key”. then you have to do the 2nd jumping puzzle (or so it seems) to get the other key, and then they supposingly do something… now, I’ve only managed one part, and couldn’t see what it comes down to and would like someone to tell me did I lose an hour of my life for nothing, or is this actually important?

Hello, I have 10% MF extra (1 item with +3%MF and an upgrade that gives me +7%) and in 5 minutes that I’ve been running around doing the daily yday (killing random stuff) I have received 4 kites. I think you might have been unlucky yday. Maybe today will be a better day.

Now, regarding the achievements that you (maybe) can’t reach without paying… do you really care that much? I mean, the primary “function” of this game is for the players to have fun. If you’re having fun jumping around, bashing random beasts or whatever else, do you really need the shiny award at the end?

I’ve been away for a while…tbh, haven’t played in almost half a year, and I still can’t find the time to play and achieve everything in the game nowadays, but the fact that I can do something different/new every 2 weeks, even though I can’t achieve the “grand prize”, still makes me happy.

Anyways, I hope you’ll manage to get the full satisfaction out of the game without having to cut your budget

I’m looking for a “Balkanski” guild on Desolation (EU). I asked a couple of times in LA but I couldn’t seem to find one so I’m asking here also. If there is one, I’d like to join.
I prefer casual PvE and WvW over something hardcode, and I love to explore the maps around the world so any company is welcome

If there aren’t any guilds from Balkan (Croatian/Serbian speaking) I’d go for any guild that has similar-preference peeps in it
I was a part of (Havn) but I was gone for a while and when I came back a week ago I found out that I’ve been kicked out due to inactivity. I do have more time now so I figure this shouldn’t happen anymore :P

Anywho, if anyone is interested in a “casual” member to join their ranks, do wisper me or something.

Dude, no offense, but you’ve been crying since day 1 that you don’t like “this, and that, and this, and that” … masochistic much?
If you don’t like the game, don’t play it. I know you invested money and you might feel that you were “cheated” or whatever, but I’m pretty positive that you got your moneys worth in this game…and then some.

The best thing is, you can stop playing, enjoy something else (personally, I’m actually considering going back to WoW, but same as you, I don’t agree with spending too much money on a game) and then come back and enjoy GW2 when it becomes something closer to what you wish it to become. IF it does. If, on the other hand, it doesn’t become something you will like better, you still got at least 80+ hours of playing GW2 which is more than you get for some other games that you payed the same amount of money for. (ili koje nisi maznuo sa neta :P)

My advice… take a break. Lurk on the forums from time to time, and when you see changes that satisfy you, try it out. If it’s good, then enjoy your playtime some more, if it’s not, well, you wait some more.

I don’t get this peeps. I’m lvl 71, have about a 100 hours played so far (only about 5% of the Vistas, tried only 1 jumping puzzle, have 2 professions on 150…so I’m mostly out in the world) and so far I’ve seen only 3 “bugged” events/points.

Where do you find all these gamebreaking bugs you all talk about?

(Also, to the people who complain about the world being empty… move?)

Leave. Go play WoW. Pay and spend money on the game which you’ll get bored of in a month. Complain on their forums how MoP is boring.

Or alternatively, you might enjoy the nice days before rain and snow mess up any chance of going out for a while (unless you enjoy being wet and cold).

OR, EVEN BETTER, take a break from a game. Noone is forcing you to play something that you find boring. If you are not enjoying yourself (the point of this and every other game) then don’t play it. Good thing about GW2 is that you can come back in a month or 2 months and then play some more…completely free.

Anyways, we can give you examples of what you should do, but the way you posted this, it’s pretty clear you already know what there is to do, you just don’t find it fun to do it. In which case we can’t help you and you have to come to the decision by yourself.

sorry if this came up already, I did a quick search and couldn’t find it anywhere, so I decided to write my own thread.

Anyways, this is my suggestion;

INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF ITEMS WE CAN SEND BY MAIL.

Please.

I play with some RL friends and we decided to “shorten the farming” by focusing on 2 professions each. Naturally, this asks for us to trade on a daily basis and it’s really annoying/boring to have to make a new mail each 10 seconds because I can’t send more than 5 items. Also, the fact that you can’t doubleclick to get the item from your bag to the mail is “meh”, but I can deal with that.

I suggest the following;
a) Make endless space while sending mail
b) Each item that you send over the 5th (standard) is charged by 2 copper, so for 10 items you will pay 10 copper, for 20 items 30 copper etc.

Basically, it wouldn’t change anything to the people who aren’t annoyed by this, but it will make you pay if you wish to use it. I believe that’s fair tbh. It’s an extra “service” that you have to pay for. The money can go wherever the copper from putting up stuff on the TP goes.

I disagree for one simple reason – I am not talking bugs. I am talking core mechanics and the general game-play.

If you build a house on the bad foundation, no matter how good you paint the walls it still fails.

Edit: I played WoW from the very start up to until 2 years ago. WoW was always thousands of light years ahead of GW2 – comparing launch-to-launch.

But it comes down to personal opinion does it not? It seems to me, from what I noticed, you’re really not satisfied with this game. Which is confusing for me because I am. Yes there are difficulties, yes there are things missing (one of the reasons I don’t PvP yet properly) but overall I find it great.

I love the downed state, I love the combos, I love the weapon swapping AND I love the choices I get in traits/skills/weapons. Hell, I have made 6 different builds so far on my Guardian. Do you know how many different builds I had on my ret in the last 2 years? 1. Since the start of Cata I didn’t change a single thing. Why? Because I didn’t need to.

About your edit… you’re kidding right? BC, WotLK and Cata launches were HORRIBLE.
As in, you had people blowing up in 2 spells (DK + Ret in WotLK), you had a paladin tanking an ENTIRE CITY alone (Cata prepatch), you had areas that were bugged/overpopulated/quests which didn’t function. Let’s not forget burst and the differences in crits.

Are you telling me that all of that (mind you, those were expansions made after YEARS of experience) was better than GW2?

There are many more examples, but I really have a bad memory and can’t write any more on the top of my head, but if you wish I’ll go search my character on the WoW forums and see all the problems there were documented and come back.

All in all, I think we’ll have to agree to disagree. You find the game kitten, and I find the game great. To each their own.

This is not a WoW type, play for 4 years straight, kind of game. This is a buy and play for a month, then come back every now and then when new content comes out kind of game.

So I paid for a game that is not full during launch and I shouldn’t be playing during first weeks (months?) and wait for proper content to be added? And don’t give me this WoW bs, I’m not buying.
