I would like to clarify the topic, it was mentioned earlier that this is a thread based upon theorycrafting, for example, the mesmer slows down time, in hopes of picking the ranger off, but the ranger calls forth the spirit of storm to move at speeds that allow the ranger to keep up with the mesmer etc
this is not theorycrafting, thats roleplaying on pen & paper xD
speed buffs never “compensate” for slows like cripple or freeze by the way, even IF the speed buff would provide you the same amount of speed in % than the slow-debuff would, you would still be slower than normal (i.e. 50% slow and a 50% speed buff results in 75% of normal speed)
there are new craftable weapons (not sure about armor?) with the karka shells, that provide condition dmg / toughness / healing.
if these are available as exotic versions and for weapons and armors, these should provide you the most survivability along with conditiondmg, id preferably take healing over vitality anyway. (Besides there arent any armors or weapons with cond / tough / vit, This combination is not available)
otherwise get those dungeon or karma armors with conditiondmg / toughness / precision. dont underestimate precision for a condition build with the trait + rune of the earth that stack extra bleedings on crits.
edit: just checked, the karka armors (… of the apothecary) are craftable for all weapons and armors and as exotics, probably gonna craft myself one of these sets as well.

unless you are relying on broken mechanisms (ele frost bow, engineer mortar and what not) we actually have it quiet easy to take them down compared to others, you just have to know that you wont hit the mounds when standing still, barrage and then just strafe left-right while hitting it with gs. Thats a bug every class suffers from.
Sadly he almost never gets to finish his rapidfire as someone notices his squishy rangerness and two shots him.
It’s rare to find myself at totally full hp, and you need damage when you are below 90% hp- bit strange to wear something that gimps you at such a high level of hp.
What’s your unbuffed toughness and HP? 10% damage if I don’t dodge roll?
Two bloodlust runes- I’ve tried bloodlust runes in wvw and personally don’t like them – at max 25 stacks you are adding 8% damage or something? I don’t have the time to stop and kill 25 mobs before I get back to that keep defence.
I love facing off against full berserker geared rangers in wvw, they die so fast:-)
thats why he mentioned mainly wvw, and probably rarely in 1v1 situations there, but rather stick to a zerg and sieges. I would like to see how you nuke down People who can always stay in the middle of the zerg, shooting at you from max distance, stacking up these 25 stacks pretty fast with a single barrage into an enemy zerg, i never die in wvw as long as i stick to the Group with my Ranger.
in spvp btw the sigills give 5 stacks per kill, so 10 stacks if you dual wield it.
there are no “Hard caps”, or “caps” at all in gw2 for stats, so its up to you when you consider the healing amount “worth it”.
SotW heals you for 62 + 6% of your total heal or 125 + 25% of your total heal on your Pet.
You could have found that out with a simple Google search

When your pet gets pulled, swap it for your other pet.
this
traited with 15 points bm, you have 16 seconds cd on swap, much less than needed to swap it on every of his pulls. You cant stow a pet if already in combat.
it is, with schoolar runes (10% dmg > 90% hp) frost spirit (10% dmg) trait that gives you +10% dmg as long as your energy is at 100% ect. , and especially with 4k might (stacked with 25x bloodlust, bufffood and possibly even some might stacks i guess?)
there are a lot of possible dmg buffs the ranger has, though most of them are only viable for deffing keeps / staying at max range and not taking any dmg in wvw. most of them dont have practical uses in spvp or in 1v1 situations so most people never use them. I prefer more reliable Dmg so i run Perception sigill and divinity runes.
can anyone tell me up to which lvl i have to play my other races toons to get all the story achievements? i want to recreate them as norn too :/
my biggest issue is that my engineer toon is already lvl 47, has done alot of exploring already and has cooking and jewelry at 400, which will cost me some gold to get back up again
pick axe/x and gs or sword/x as the ranger, if he uses projectile reflects switch to melee, if he doesnt, ALWAYS attack him with axe #1 (it will render all his illusions useless, killing them almost instantly everytime) however i still think mesmer will win, he will just silly kite/run somewhere behind a wall and still shoot you through the wall with his gs attack without line-of-sight, as they always do.
any ideas how these beasts are called the charr use as mules sometimes? they could look quiet intimidating.
Greetings here,
So, here is my statement : Norn female are far too pretty. They look like models. And I’m not only talking about their real hot body (Did you take a look at those boobies ? Gosh, with the Tier 1 cultural chestpiece, when I see a norn female running, it’s like time has stopped… seeing those poor constricted melons yelling “free me ! It’s so tight in here !” always bring a tear to my eyes), but mostly about their faces. Those are only cute dolls faces.
.It’s a computer animated woman. When that starts to turn you on, you need to get laid BIG TIME =P
if that DOESN’T turn you on, you are either a kitten or you need imagination BIG TIME :O
how are these little grey things called with dem long ears and big eyes, they live in some giant floating rock me thinks? Id also take one of them.
Raptor
/15char
Raven F2 Attack, none of the Ranger Attacks himself deal high numbers.
To begin with, if you want to maximize ranger’s pet DPS you have to learn to swap your pet BEFORE it dies, so it defeats completely the point of having a pet swap when pet dies.
this.
also sometimes you might NOT instantly want to swap even when it died, you probably want to wait 2-3 more sec to get a better use out of the quickness you get from the 5 point trait. as already mentioned by some people, its no improvement at all, its just for your lazyness.
I think a lot are forgetting this feature would be OPTIONAL.
just like paying attention in a fight and looking deeper into a class and its possibilites is also optional to many players, which i simply dont think should be optional, or that one who doesnt want to do it, should still be able to play his class almost as efficiently.
it sounds to me like you want an option for something you just forget about, or dont want to care about, instead of trying to improve on yourself.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stun_break
One of these is not like the others, one of these doesn’t belong.
At least 4 utility skill stun breaks for every other class.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Stability
few engineers use elixir x or mortar, so they have none at all, thieves only have daggerstorm, necros only have it on extremely high cd as well, ect.
you need signets traited with 30 points marksmanship to get the boon of sotw, but we have by far the longest lasting stability buffs of all.
not sure if, but ive noticed many norn players dont even know that the charges in bear or snow leopard form, you have to HOLD the key pressed, to charge a longer distance.
snow leopard form has a stealth (5) and this charge skill, which you can use twice during the full duration. I always have this elite in my bar in WvW because i can get away out of EVERY situation with it, even if a whole enemy zerg is heading towards me, i got out alive a lot times already even when 5 or more people were alrdy focusing me in a zerg, just use your stone signet, signet of the wild (to not get interrupted during transform) and then my leopard form (the cast animation takes some time but you can alrdy use its 5 stealth skill slightly before you see your new skillbar). Sure you have to waste 3 long cds for it, but who else can do this other than thieves?
if anet will ever change that all forms attacks are usable in movement, and maybe even the shapeshifting itself, i might also give bear and wolf a second try. I just love how bearform gives me about 3k armor and 40k health even in a full glasscannon build, i am working on a bunker set now and lets see how my stats will raise up then with it.
I don’t know about the rest of this thread, but I just wanted to say that Eir Stegalkin is way hotter than she has any right to be.
agreed.
again: norn arent humans, someone in this thread said in these times people usually didnt got older than somewhere between 25-40, however the norns reach ages of up to 120 “human” years, based on their lore. and during the storyline it is mentioned sometimes that eir actually is quiet old, if not one of the oldest norn alive, howver i couldnt figure out her real age in the story, nor does she look old in any way (male norns can look damn old / experienced)
to those guys who think slim, athletic = fit: Norns arent athletes, they are warriors, they eat pork and drink beer all day long. And NO, experience/technique/speed does NOT win over pure strength in a fair fight without dirty tricks(by the way, speed comes ONLY from Strenght, not from a tiny, thin body (less wind resistance hurr durr). This is just some weird modern anime/ninja delusion that has taken over). As it stands now, norn females would in no possible way stand a chance against a male in a fight, which doesnt reflect their background and lore or what they are supposed to be, at all.
but it wont matter how much is discussed about if they look like they should, because players dont care, they want their pretty model faces to fap to while playing.
Remember when Skyrim came out, most females in the game actually looked quiet realistic, dirty, natural, less or even no makeup, only very few female npcs in the game were actually considered hot. What happened to that game? people didnt like the females, and had do release their own Mods to replace female faces with anime girls and supermodels and put a ton of makeup on all the female faces.
I meant to use it if you ARE in combat and → forgot <- about the swap option.
right THERE is your problem, nowhere else.
not trying to be mean or anything, but get used to these skills, id prefer to control my pet and calling it back myself anytime over any ai.
my 2 cents:
“Ranger” doesnt come from “ranged” as in distance, it merely comes from the word “range” as used in a “row or line of men/soldiers”. Aragorn didnt use Bows, he used a sword and warhorn. Hell of a cool Ranger :P
A Ranger can be a wanderer, soldier, policemen, someone who guards something / an area. So Archery / Ranged Combat isnt really what this class is mainly about, sorry for you Guys who took this misleading with an Archer / Sniper.
Yes we could play without a Pet in GW1. Want to compare those games, then fine, take away Thieves Stealth, since they didnt have it in GW1 either, I wouldnt mind that.
loved axes during lvling and on overfarmed events, im now almost at the 5k kill mark with axes. Ricochet is highly underestimated and works exceptionally well against EXACTLY 2 enemys, no more no less, every axe will bounce back to your initial target, effectively dealing 2x the amount of dmg, and thus, beeing more effective in pure dps on your main target than any other ranged weapon, except melee.
its also nice against enemy mesmers or rangers, because rangers who keep their pet close (ranged pets) or fight in melee got the same situation of every ricochet hitting them twice.
Mesmers i generally find almost unbeatable as a ranger, however ive seen best chances of winning with axes, because their illusions die after 2-3 ricochet hits, sometimes the Mesmer also gets multiple hits with every ricochet, depending on how many illusions he has out at the time or how they are positioned.
path of scars: remember you dont need your enemy to be standing still to take the second hit, you can also move by yourself into the direction you want it, the axe will follow you. Playing with Axes is basically like Sivir in LoL, for those who know it.
You would have expected the bows to do the same damage at close range but the longbow to outshine the shortbow at long range, at the very least. Hopefully they’ll decide to improve longbow damage or increase its rate of fire.
LB does outshine SB on long range, as you can see at the numbers posted, you cant compare them with any Set that has Condition dmg, because LB has no conds … but with berserker, LB has, even if just slightly, more DPS on long range than SB.
and also, always keep in mind that you cant shoot your targets from behind/the side permanently, and that your target might just remove your bleedings every once in a while and so on… imagine a SB cond Ranger fighting another berserk LB ranger 1v1, standing/strafing in healing spring and always facing you, good luck with that bleedings.
one thing most players dont consider:
you can use longbows 3 and 4 IN BETWEEN the 1 autoshots, if timed correctly, without loosing much of the “delay” time between 1’s. This makes a quiet good difference in longbows dps because even if 3 and 4 arent mainly there for dmg, they still do. Compared to the shortbow, where using 2-5 significantly lowers 1’s dps because it will cost you more time during the animations.
Also your assuming that you can stay behind/side of your target with shortbow to get to the conclusion that shortbow is better. this will almost never happen in pvp when enemys are attacking you, effectively leaving you with an average of about 3-4 stacks of bleedings (and this is with the 60% chance on crit-bleed sigill + 33% trait), same for pve where enemys at higher lvls tend to focus you more often instead of your pet.
pets definitely need the 90% reduction to AOE damage trait that was given to pets in other game titles for this very reason (pets dying from AOE all the time).
ye, lets make our bears completely immortal in any boss fights, because with their own heal skill + 6 sec invul combined with passive lifereg from signet of the wild or 30 bm trait and our healskills that all affect the pet as well, they simply would not die anymore ever, unless they are focused by the boss and even then, will take quiet a few hits.
seriously 90%? i havent played WoW for years so i just had to google that up, wow… . Before you ask for anything like this (like many others do in this forum) have you ever thought a little about it? Lets say they bring this pet-aoe reduction into the game but a little bit more “balanced” like 30-40% or so? then the same rangers would still complain about the same thing, because their pet still died after 3 aoes instead of 2, and they still “dont want” to control their pet themselves.
i completely agree to the op, choosing ranger means to control yourself and your pet, not just playing a ranged character with a permanent, undieing, free bonus dmg-tool by your side, i have already stated in the german forum that it is very well possible to keep your pet alive in most fights and still let it dish out some decent dps, however it requires a bit micro management.
and for the people who think other classes dont rely on a pet for their dmg potential, you have never tried playing a pet necro or a turret engineer, true they can play builds that dont include pets and turrets, but thats not the point why i chose to play them. Also warriors or rogues are beeing reduced to only ranged dmg at some boss fights, forcing them to always carry a ranged weapon in their secondary slot and effectively ruining many builds.
the passive of the signet is quiet good alrdy, because “removing one condition” always removes a whole “stack” of conditions. I Dont know if there is a Priority Order or if it removes them Randomly but lets say, if you have 15x bleeding and a poison, theres a 50% Chance that all those 15 Bleedings will just be gone without doing anything. Not sure if this is a Bug though, but its the same with all condition removers.
the active effect also is a Stunbreaker, how could we consider it bad?
Movement Speed Buffs work in Combat, but they do not “Stack” with Swiftness (only the higher buff will be applied). So havin 25% instead of 10% will almost make Swiftness useless, which i think is not a bad thing for us.
which is further bizarre that every human can now do this, even with the gods being pretty much AWOL since Nightfall
every Human can Shapeshift into an Avatar of the Gods? I thought they could just shapeshift into a tiny little bush or get a small useless stinky aura around them… :p
i wish they will bring a race-change option into the shop, so i can change my last toon to norn, too, hes too far lvled alrdy and has both professions on 400 alrdy so i dont want to start over, if they bring this option, all my chars will be changed to norn once i have seen all races storylines :p
also snow leopard is simply > all other elites in wvw and solo pve, used right its a 100% survival option even in worst cases when facing an entire enemy zerg, and it makes exploring in orr so easy for all classes (except thieves who alrdy have stealth)
Here you go just as a few
Volume I: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPEbzNl_mDE&list=UL
Volume II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poltQGmLu5M
Volume III: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iK-QnDSKys
Just to make things clear: this videos show nothing specifically of the Ranger, this is a Problem every ranged class has (except mesmer gsword or necro scepter) also the enemy in the vids are at a “bugged” location but you could probably figure that out, otherwise more than 50% of the arrows would have hit.
stop comparing rangers survivability with guardians, comparing their burst potential with thiefs or claiming that only us rangers were affected by these terrible ranged obstructed bugs, this is complete nonsense and just feeds the contra rangers more, though it has absolutely nothing to do with our class.
