As a black man I’ve learned plenty about fighting for equal rights and seen more than my share of unfair dealings.

My point still stands: there is usually a plan and usually a goal. People don’t just scream out, there’s is sweat, blood, and tears poured into a unified ideal. Even if the methods are unorthodox, there is still a clear message desiring a specific result in many of the most influential protests

What would you like to see changed? Thieves nerfed? Mesmers buffed? Celestial nerfed? Is the problem really class-specific or an overarching issue with game balance? I’m fine with having a hard counter, but one hard counter doesn’t push a class out of the meta. A lack of defined role does.

Right now nearly all zerker classes are suffering, not just us.

Nerfing the thief? no! Tweaking it to be adjusted.. Yes! But I would love to see mesmer retooned.. tweaked. at least not go down on the first 3 hits of the thief spams.

I just started playing sPvP and I can share the same sentiment, mesmers need some love from ANet, enough with spoiling the thief community as is.

Mesmers need some buffs, not turrent Engineers, if anything they need a major nerf bat hit for sure.

2/12/2015 WvW report on Unbalanced Match-ups

I agree that doing something to increase total WvW population across the servers would be a good first step towards revivifying the best game mode in any MMO, anywhere.

Increasing rewards, as stated, carries with it a risk that it will draw a large population of players who are not interested in PvP and will do anything they can to avoid it, just to get the maximum return of rewards?

The solution? Simple.

Make the best personal rewards in WvW come from killing enemy players, not capturing objectives. There should never be a situation in WvW where two large groups of enemy players will deliberately avoid engagement in PvP because they don’t want to disrupt their “karma train”.

Capturing objectives should still be the primary team objective, and it should give a decent reward to everyone on the winning realm (and diminishingly towards the 2nd and 3rd server) after the scores are tallied for the week. This weekly “WvW reward chest” could even be applied a coefficient depending the player’s personal contribution to WvW and track for example the number of captures, NPC kills, enemy player kills, etc.

So in summary.

  • Reduce immediate personal rewards for capturing an objective (or killing enemy NPCs).
  • Increase immediate personal rewards for killing an enemy player.
  • Introduce a weekly WvW reward chest, the contents of which will depend on both your realm’s and your personal performance in the past week’s WvW matchup.

just like population reduction isnt going to fix the problems, expand the population will not either. Servers like JQ and BG will get even more people to play and transfer over, while other servers will continue to suffer.

WvW Confuses me now, I came back from launch

So im a little confused by WvW. I remember when GW2 launched it seemed like there were battles everywhere. Now I log into any of the borderlands around 7pm EST and they seem dead. If they are not dead there is only one blob of about 40 people who runs around border land to border land. It doesn’t seem like there are massive battles or defenses. I had a fond memory of defending stone mist castle near the launch. There were about 14 waves of attacks before they left. Now it seems like we just hand it over and flip flop owner ship. I currently play on Tarnished Coast. Why does it seem like a lot less people play world vs. world? Or is it like warhammer online where you have musical bases so everyone gets points but never fights? Or is prime time different on Tarnished Coast? I understand that a lot of people have complaints about WvW, did that hemorrhage players?

Thanks

I play on JQ, so I’m speaking as someone who fights against TC. I can tell you TC is plenty alive, and they can summon some blobs like no tomorrow. TC appears to be able to summon a large blob earlier in the day, like in the afternoon American time. JQ is often under heavy attack from both TC & BG early in the day. If you played earlier, you would see this.

However, some TC guilds do the PvDoor only. Meaning, they go from tower to tower, map to map, avoiding open field combat. If we try to engage, they pull off, despite even numbers or sometimes greater numbers. They’ll stealth hit garrisons, golem zerg bay & hills. So what you are seeing may be this. There are plenty of other TC guilds that don’t do that, but some specific guilds do.

My suggestion is to look for an active guild that suits you. If you like PvDoor or play the ppt game, there are guilds you can join that do that on a regular basis. If you enjoy open field combat or defense, there are plenty to choose from as well on the TC side. But joining the right guilds will help you enjoy the game better. And being on comms used by your server will allow you to know what’s going on better as well.

Good luck!

Agree with your callout on some TC guilds prefer PvD instead of engaging enemies. What’s the fun in doing that in WvW? They might as well do PvE like replay living story episodes or something.

Stability changes

Good, stability is OP in zergs, having perma stability (or near to it) is a joke, it negates what should be one of the most powerful things in a PvP format – hard CC.

As for boon stripping, yeah right, the only boon stripping that works against competent groups (and when I say competent I mean rolling your face across the keyboard rotating stability/boons and not standing in wells you know too long – cos that is leet skillz), is focusing individuals like the ‘driver’ with corrupt boon.

Stripping boons in the group context is a joke, stability is last in the order for well of corruption if I remember correctly, most of the time there are 4+ boons over that stability, most of the boon stripping skills in this game are not even used in zergs because they are not suitable or on classes that don’t exist in large groups (thief sword 3, engy mines, etc), meanwhile the amount of boon generation in a melee ball scales to silly levels with guards everywhere.

As for the crying of guards, really? Go look at the class balance of WvW/GvG over the last 2 years, 4 classes have made up the vast majority of zergs/guilds, with 2 classes barely existing and two more not existing at all, where were your posts complaining about the plight of ranger or engy, and now you want sympathy, because the class that has been the most common in WvW for 2 years is getting a well deserved hit, lol.

I agree, guards crying is a joke. Time to let classes with CC abilities shine.

T1 Server - Why Stay?

in WvW

Rome.7124

Folks, I’ve been on the TC server since the day I started GW2 and have really enjoyed WvW up until I came back to the game a few months ago. I’m primarily a roamer with either myself or 1 other person and it just seems these days that WvW is completely full of zergs. Is there no place for the solo roamer anymore on a T1 server?

As a solo roamer, would it be best for me to change to a different server? What are the pros/cons of doing so?

Maybe your problem is that your only focused on 1 role. T1 has zergs and havok running all day long. I am also in a t1 server and I multitask, and generally have no issues with roaming. I zerg, havok, scout and always have fun. Many people do not seek 1v1 fights because they are a waste of time. Many times its some mesmer or thief running some cheese build thats annoying to fight and they wont bother going for a real fight because if they dont burst you down right away they will stealth and run away when they get low on hp. I see these 1v1’s as a waste so I personally dont seek them, if I’m going to cap a camp, thats what my focus is not to look for someone to gank.

In regards to always facing a zerg when trying to roam, thats just not the case. If you know how to watch the map, it will make things a lot easier for you, also being in ts or w/e comms your server uses will let you know what map your team is on, watch the map, see where they attack, and go for camps, towers etc, watch the roads leading to the enemy objective your team is attacking if your looking for fights. Ive seen small teams do some amazing things, and to say its always zerg vs zerg is just utterly false, many times its small groups vs small groups.

You can change servers to one with a smaller wvw pop but t1 servers are all full, so you might find yourself bored because the other tiers are not as active as t1 and you wont be able to get back in. T2 has traditionally been a good place for roamers though I’m not sure if thats still the case.

thanks for your reply, and I agree with you 100%.

Sounds like you are not on TC, and based on what you say, I see why the other 2 T1 servers have success. Their “roamers” will do more, and sounds like the ones on TC (such as OP) wants easy ganking or small scale fights that dont help the WvW scores. If so, they are better off on other servers instead of TC.

Lastly, those people who suggested the OP to do sPvP, I think the reason is there’s a slight gear advantage in WvW, that’s why he’s not doing it.

Should I stick with my mesmer

in Mesmer

I would pick Mesmer going into HoT. First of all, we are definitely one of the less powerful classes atm but once you figure out the playstyle its still very rewarding and you can dominate people. Not to mention we are in a great position to get some long needed buffs/updates come HoT with our minimal use in professional PvP (those few that are out there are).

As far as having fun, mesmer is great to do burst and play mind games imo, and I will never ditch the mesmer. In PvE dungeons your Ele will be more efficient are desired outside of reflects. I still use mesmer though for the good ability to tag via greatsword in open world and semi-engaging melee only play on s/s + s/f in dungeons

without the release of HOT, how can u be so sure there are buffs coming? As for the OP, when a very popular class in Thief is your hard counter no matter what build you run, it’s really not that fun. I’d say go with Ele or Thief.

Mesmer, the least played profession?

Mesmer have been nerfed too much in these years, compared to the other professions that received buffs constantly.

Some mesmer nerfs were unwarranted, however the idea that other professions have recieved constant buffs is total nonsense, thief has had more nerfs than mesmer, engi for the first 12-15 months was the most nerfed class in the game, etc.

It’s like one man has been convicted of many minor offenses, and another man convicted of a single capital crime. The man with the many minor convictions suffers a string of minor punishments. They are plentiful to be sure, but the degree of his suffering is relatively low. He may be mistaken thinking he has been punished a lot, or to much, due to the quantity.
Meanwhile Mr Capital received a bullet to the head. It’s a single punishment, no where near the multitude of the minor guy. Never the less it’s a death sentence.

Thief is Mr Minor.
Mesmer is Mr Capital.

Don’t even get people started on Mes vs Thief.

agree 100%.

I hope the expansion will buff Mesmer.

What's so exciting about Rifle thief?

Rome.7124

Think of it like P/P that doesn’t suck. High single target ranged DPS on an incredibly squishy character with high mobility is a match made in heaven.

Rifle can always end up blowing, of course, and we will never use our Specialization.

Personally, I think it will be some sort of a slow aiming long range weapon that allows you to stay in stealth for a long time without moving. It will be useless for anything but WvW where you one-shot Zerkers with it.

so thief going to get 1200 range, high single target DPS from rifle AND stealth? Nah, something is got to give, cant have it all.

recently return to GW2 after a long break, I am looking for the best way to farm karma after Anet nerfed it. Is what’s written in this thread still viable, or if there are better options?

Please help, thanks.

Yes, I was able to read up on this issue and some of the players that were not given a prize for finishing all the waypoint, POIs and Vistas went into the Chantry of Secrets and they were given their well-deserved prizes.

The others unfortunately still haven’t gotten them so it could also be a bug. Let’s just wait and see what Anet says about the issue.

At the lower levels, you will feel that you are not churning out as much damage as the other classes are but from my experience, it evens out when you reach 50+ or something.

I was thinking about abandoning my engineer once however I decided to continue since I already invested my time on it.

Now, I ain’t looking back because I’m having lots and lots of fun with my grenadier with elixirs build on WvW.

Going back to topic – only advice is to persevere. If you have any class-specific questions, you can send me a message.

Hi bliske.5109,

It looks like you still haven’t found all of the POIs, vistas and waypoints.

I think , comparing your current map to an interactive map from a third-party like e.g Interactive Guild Wars 2 Map from IGN will help you find the missing ones.

Good luck!+
