GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]

in Living World

To get the new content you have 3 options:
- log in ONCE in the specific 2 weeks period
- farm gold and exchange it for gems (this gives an in-game goal)
- spend little real money for convenience.

they made this gem – gold exchange so everyone can afford everything in the cash shop: a 12 year old or a working veteran. Don’t make such a fuss about it especially when they are offering you 3 possibilities.
Remember, many MMOs offer DLC for a payment with real cash excluding any other options unlike GW2. GW2s model is the best one so far in the market

I like the concept of the Journal. And I see the possibility to put more modes into it in the future for each episode: Normal mode, Hard Mode, Insane Mode.
The LFG will be good for this.

Making every living story account bound and re-playable opens a lot of instanced type content making GW2 closer to GW1 basic concept, plus it ads more long term goals
Increasing difficulty for an instanced content is a lot easier then doing it for the open world

I think, this journal is one of the best things they do in this game.

second b-day gift

I would like a mount specific for the race of the character who has a birthday.

It will be a cosmetic mount with no speed advantage and this could set up a trend of getting mounts only through the birthdays like in GW1 the minis were obtained only in that way (not counting the trading)
The mounts would be an unique birthday gift which cant be purchased through other means

it would be nice if we would get a musical book from the gem store which would be updated with new songs from time to time by A-Net because not all the players are musical talents to compose songs but they would like to look more professional instrument players

Something like Guitar Hero
Here is how other MMOs have implemented this and even transformed it into a mini game with levels.

It would be nice if every profession would have a specific animation when a character is crafting. In this way the other people would see who is crafting and who is just standing in front of a crating station. it would be also fun to watch.

Don't Punish Returning Players

Veteran players get punished to.

The resets, repeats and deletes they make us go through are hardly inspiring.

So, they punish veteran players.
They also punish returning players.
And they punish new players.

Anet has unlocked an achievment!! Make all your playerbase angry at the same time!!!

(Except white knights, those doen’t count for this meta)

Coolest answer in these forum for a long time. You made my day

many of us have bought or would buy some instruments from the gem store, but as long as we have no musical background it makes creating good scores a real hussle.
I would like to have a sort of musical book which would be updated constantly by a-net with new songs.
Think of it as a Guitar Hero game where we are suggested the notes and we just need to press them in specific order

here is a clip from another MMOs who has this system implemented

+1
I support this request.

I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase “charges” (or whatever) to make frequent changes to my appearance. If charges are priced like current Transmutation Charges then I would welcome them and buy them often.

As it is currently, needing to spend far too much for a single kit to make a single adjustment to my appearance causes me to not purchase any.

If I were charged on a per-feature-adjustment basis, I would make changes and tweaks constantly. This ‘fee per adjustment’ plan would result in plenty of appearance charges being used. Spending a ton of gems for a full kit just to tweak the color of my sylvari’s glow so it will match her new armor color scheme…no thanks, not buying those. I’d rather make a new character than buy a kit to tweak one small detail on an existing one.

Yes, this is what i wanted to say. makeover charges are priced like the transmutation charges are now and will be used for feature types. if I remember correctly, we have genre (make/female), body features (height, weight, skin, tattoos) head (hair, face, details). they could sue 1 charge for each type

It would be nice if we would be able to change our looks from the Hero panel.
So, under the Equipment, Dyes, Wardrobe, there could be a new tab called Makeover
In there we can preview all the changes like when using the Total Makeover Kit
Transform the TMK into Makeover Charges

WHAT? Then we couldn’t buy gems to pay for doing this. Pure blasphemy. {:-รพ

Sure, you could. You need to buy makeover charges to change the looks like you need to buy the Total Make over kit now just to see what they have added new in there
Personally I have 1 make over kit in my bank and every time they say they added new faces or hair styles i go and check them out.
I only used the kit once and after that i have bought one just to have a preview.
I am not sure how many people buy the kit now just to have a preview of the new aditions

I prefer outfits then armor skins.
You buy them once and then you can use them on all characters as many times you like without any extra cost or transmutation charges.

This is the way to go A-Net.

Most of may characters are dressed up in outfits and i don’t give a **** about how my armor looks underneath

There is nothing to make you dedicate more time to it.

If there are only 5 people doing an event, fine, let it be, but if there are 100 people doing it, why try to split them up instead of making the event scale up accordingly and not only increasing the foes life bar?

That’s a really good question! Reasons you might not want 100 people at a boss:

1) People with low-performing computers have awful framerates
2) Lots of graphical effects make it hard to see a boss and its tells, leading to rather boring gameplay – remember, GW2 is supposed to have “action combat”
3) Condition caps mean that players with condition builds are nearly useless
4) Not only can you not see the boss, but you can’t even really see other players! Smaller groups make it more likely that you’ll eventually notice the same people playing with you. (This requires megaserver to improve its placement of players in servers, so it may not be a factor yet.)
5) Each player feels less of an impact on the boss – doing 5% of the total damage feels like I’m doing more than doing 1% of the total damage.

Here’s a question for you: what is BETTER about 100 players attacking a single boss than 20 players attacking each of five bosses? Or 17 players attacking each of six bosses?

Answer:
The freedom of not following the rules. Players have different goals (read achievements)
Commanders telling them to go to specific bosses just for the whole event to succeed conflicts with their personal goals.
If 100 players attack one boss at a time they all are guaranteed all boss kill achievements in one run.
Spliting up between bosses will always make those who miss one boss kill achievement to go only for it so the numbers will not be equal. besides, you are forced to do the event more then one time to get all boss kill achievements unless you are doing littel damage on one boss then run to the other and then to another till you “tag” them all so you are not forced to play the event more times.

A-nets wants us to play the event more times and they trick us with achievements and this is the reason many people play QP now. They should make the event fun to play or at least rewarding so we play it more times becasue we “want” to not because we “need” to

Megaserver and this event are designed to go together. People just aren’t doing it correctly.

When QD train was “derailed” by some new player who didn’t know the rotation we heard the same People just aren’t doing it correctly all over the map chat.
All these players who “imposed” the rules were pointed out as anti-social and jerks
Now, if A-net wants us to " play by the rules" because People just aren’t doing it correctly it seem very social and cheerful

I was never a fan of the Queensdale train precisely because of the toxicity it created. I never agreed with those rules.

That said: do you dispute that splitting into 6 groups and killing all 6 bosses is the “right way” to do Boss Blitz? Or are you disagreeing with me for some other reason?

Spliting people in groups and limiting their numbers is what i am disputing.
it is wrong and it is against the whole game core concept: scaling events.

If there are only 5 people doing an event, fine, let it be, but if there are 100 people doing it, why try to split them up instead of making the event scale up accordingly and not only increasing the foes life bar?
They did a good job with Scarlet’s Invasion up until they spawned Elites instead of Champions.

I’m unsure what’s preventing players from playing “the way they want to play”. Is everyone being forced to play a certain way? Am I the only one playing the way I want? :S

It is a known fact that people choose the simplest, easiest and shortest way to achieve their goals in RL or in video-games.

For those who’s only goal is to log in the game and “i’ll see what i will do today” pops up in their minds, then yes, the game can be played the way they want
But for those who set up plans for themselves with various goals and the simplest, easiest and shortest ways to get them, any change they make to affect the game mechanics affects their plans.

I am sure if you would set up a goal for yourself and someone is preventing you from getting it the way you planned to get it, you would be frustrated too

If this was a single player game, I guess you can have “your way”.

But in an MMORPG, if “my way” and “your way” did not coincide then what should we do? Clearly, neither of us can dictate how the other should play and being able to get “your way” all the time would not be possible.

I would suggest everyone takes the “Play How You Want” quote with a pinch (or 2) of salt. Its being twisted out of context and used to justify all sorts of selfish and anti-social behavior.

I enjoyed the QD train for 30-45 min in a day, the time I have to play anyway. it was good for doing some dailies and monthlies and good for leveling alts or getting money/loot. too.
“My way” is not to go around an explore the world. “My way” is to have a relaxing time in the game without too much thinking and still feeling I have some the progress and the QD train was just doing that for me and possibly many others.
Turning the Champs into Vets in starter zones, destroyed “my way” of enjoying the game.
I hope it is more clear now

The OP clearly states that he likes that the change requires a MEDIUM number of people – a large group split up into smaller groups.

Unlike, as you suggested repeatedly, absolutely no grouping at all.

MEDIUM and MEGASERVERS don’t fit in the same shoes like MEDIUM and GUESTING didn’t fit either.

This game has been advertised like " we make the game for you, the player, we let you play the way you want to play"
This has been happening for over a year now but after the recent nerfs, “the way of how we want to play” has become “the way we want you to play”
Notice the change? it is “you”

Source for this? I bet you can’t find it.

What do I win if I find it?

One of the things that was actually really hard for us when we started was a concern that we were fragmenting the playerbase in terms of building all these new features and new things that were forcing people to go their separate ways. […] That’s the entire reason the Molten Alliance facility and the Aetherblade Retreat were there as kinda temporary content. We wanted to make it a focal point to get everyone in and everyone playing it, but not to the point they come out and never want to see it again.

aka when people were going “their separate ways” playing the way they wanted, then A-Net thought, we should make them play what we want.
Later they created the zergs which"everyone" is playing them so that now they created the anti-zerg system.
So you really think these guys know what they are doing other then earning money with cash shop fluff?

Well said gentlemen. THIS IS HOW THE MAJORITY OF YOUR PLAYERS FEEL ANET.

ZERG = FUN.
ACTUAL LOOT = FUN.

Only weirdos prefer to play a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER Online game in small packs and boo and hiss should – God forbid – a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER crowd form.

I think you should avoid speaking for the majority of players based on forum comments. If you go read Reddit, for example, the response is overwhelmingly positive.

Also. That you think Massively Multiplayer is the same as Zerg is a little troubling.

Reddit is not necessarily great for observing people’s reactions since it’s a minority that goes there and posts.
You want to get a correct idea of what’s going on? Go in game and see how players feel about it and how empty and deserted it is compared to last year.

I’m sure Anet has access to metrics that can easily prove that this year’s QP is a smashing fail compared to last year’s.

Same with this forum – this forum is a minority and mostly here to complain and many don’t even play the game any more.

The game is NOT empty and deserted – if you think that then you are : 1. Blind. 2. NOT OBSERVANT. 3. A TROLL

You think they created the Megaservers because the game is full of players? You are the one who doesn’t see the trick they did to hide the decreasing population.

Closing servers or merging them would have been a direct sign and the press would go wild advertising it as a sign of fail while creating megaservers it is like merging all servers into just a few without saying it directly.

GW2 whole innovative concept was to create zergs. That is why there is no loot steal nor kill steal nor experience steal. The scaling system for the events is a mechanic created especially for zergiing. 1000 player battles aka WvW are meant to be zergs.

So, an anti-zergs philosophy is totally against the main concept of how this game has been created.

Making events scale only for a specific number of players leaving the others with no loot – see the scalet bosses fight in the last LS – introduces the new loot, kill, exp steal.

If you really like an anti zerg philosophy, please go an play all other MMOs where no one ever helps you kill a boss because they don’t get loot or exp, or you need to wait for the new spawn and be the first to target it to get the quest done.

Zergs make GW2 different from all other MMOs together with other useful features like TP, gathering nods, dye system etc.
Don’t ruin it with Anti-zerg philosophy which is anti (against) the game’s core concept.

@Sinope.
You are right. If they really want to have an anti-zerging system, they should do what you said plus adding the loot, kill, experience steal mechanic too. Then there wont be any zergs and no player will ever bother anyone else.

[Suggestion]All weapons and No weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ronah Lynda.2496

It is very likely that A-Net will increase the number of weapons used by various profession, all leading up to All weapons for Every profession.
But, it is very unlikely that they will let us fight with bare hands
If we take off the weapons from our characters, they remain almost useless. It is not possible that a warrior can’t smash a foe with his fists and a thief can grab their enemy,.

My suggestion is to add skills for when we don’t ware any weapons.
