Still full in favor of making all maps true 3-ways, and remove “Home” map system. (As most should know by now). And basically what Johje said, single colored map is boring map.
Do like a lot of the suggestions here about what to do with the middle, shout-out to the “giant treb hill” idea, love it.
I’ve talked about some of the advantages/disadvantages about a Donut map design. I’ll try to keep it as short as I can this time.
If you make a map fully circular, and close of some spots with tower and keep walls, you can create a constant 2(3) front fight going on. Where there are natural choke holds that you can fight in to hold back enemy, etc. For players that enjoy the actual mass combat and siege warfare this could be interesting. For those of us that likes roaming, less so.
The idea (example) is that if you have 3 keeps, and 6 towers in a circle, each tower blocks off the circle so you have to take it, or at least break down the wall to get past it. Each keep guards the only entry to the map from Spawn, and stands in a very defensive position.
Starting equal, each server will hold their own keep, and the two nearby towers. Fighting then starts for the neighbours towers. If Server A takes Server B’s tower, then they have access to attack either Server B’s keep or their other tower, if they’re willing to let Server B have free access to ambush them from behind.
At the same time, Server C might have taken Server B’s other tower, and Server A and C clash in front of Server B’s keep. Or, Server C taken Server A’s tower on the other side of the map, forcing Server A to move back to defend their keep and retake the tower.
This creates a system with 3 pushing fronts that will move back and forward (as the population changes). People that just want action, zerging and siege warfare can jump right in and instantly find where to go. And the 3 way system creates a pull and push.
Also if you lose your keep, you’ll have a spawn isnide a “tower” of a sort, that has a crazy defensive advantage (that can only be accessed by going through the keep, think an offshot cave or valley from the keep only). That makes it very easy to retake the keep, very hard to take for the enemy. But can be taken. Then the enemy can retake from spawn super easy if there is no defenders. Basically handicap more and more the further you’re pushed back. The “Spawn Tower” should be defend-able by 3-5 people. And anyone capable of taking a tower lord should be able to take it back if no enemies.
You know what is funny? I found these pictures from about 3 years ago when I said the borderland designs were bad and that they should look more like the home team is being pushed from both sides. They work somewhat similary how you propose (We never thought about total barring the way before tho) and it make WvW actually look like a donut.
I also complained somenthing about EBG but i don’t remember what it was. I think it was the lack of more supply routes.
I use the primers for wvw but sometimes i if I am waiting on reset, crafting goods to open up storage space, standing in divinity’s reach, LA, pve etc… I tend to go afk and my primer (i think secretly) diminishes to nothing. If I could buy a wvw specific primer, that only ticks down in wvw that would fix the issue as well.
If you log off to character screen the timer freezes.
Also, we don’t know who will be host or guest. I wouldn’t expect DH/SF/CD to be hosts again, but who knows… If they intent to do more multi server links (like the quadserver fiasco) they will have to use low pop servers as hosts.
Isn’t this a rewards track reward? It might be something different in the tracks but I thought one track was called Triumphant.
The Reward track has the Rare version not the Exotic.
Nope, they are exotic lvl 80 gear, its the Mist forged weapon track that gives rare weapons!
It’s not mistforged, it’s only Hero Weapons. Mistforged are the exotic version that are currently unavaible unless you still have tournament tickets from 2 years ago to buy the stuff you need to make them on mystic forge.
EDIT: The Triumphant Armor are like the Hero Weapons, except that they aren’t rare (they are exotic, like the pvp specific Glorious Armor).
Arena Net posted somewhere they intent to return the Mistforged Hero Weapons as well introduce the Triumphant Hero Armor as a reward that isn’t tied to tracks. They just never said when or how.

Impossible… Arena Net tried, but players didn’t work with the map. We’ll have to think about somenthing else.
All 4 towers are just kinda there, you can’t use them to defend any of the keeps. In EBG you have to go by the gauntlet of towers to attack the keep and on alpine the NE and NW towers protect the garrison from the North.
Or you can just go straight for the double gates and ram it down (with the same rams in the case of Lowlands and Valley Keeps) while ignoring completely all 4 towers.
Honestly I prefer the structures being far because that way people cannot just sit on trebs behind walls with a buttload of siege until their blob arives. To make progress you need to actually be in open field, which promote more fighting and less bunkering.
People don’t realize that gw2 is still surviving because there isn’t a new game to replace it.
When that time arrives, Gw2 will truly close its gates.

I belive Desert Borderlands was created with the intention of seeing it played in thirds (Like EBG or even EotM) and not as a map entirely controled by a single server. ABL problably had the same purpose (that’s why each team start with the keep close to it’s spawn) but ABL being smaller make it easier for total domination, whereas DBL being larger do not.
We tend to see more action in EBG than the borderlands (regardless of which) anyway. Why? Honestly, I can’t say for sure. But I feel that people are attracted by the big shiny castle in the middle of the map. Most of activity tend to be around it or in the towers around it. Maybe Arena Net should scrap the whole “home borderland” concept and do more maps that are meant to be played like EBG. Where each server get it’s third of the map and there is somenthing different to be contested on the middle and/or between the thirds.

majority of people doesnt like desert borderlands, it was implied by devs that if we vote no on the map it will affect future development effort in negative way
the map is dead second day after release already
66% of the people voted to keep it. If their motives was to hope for a new map other than the desert, they should just suck it up and ignore DBL existence instead of crying about it when they did voted to keep it.
Unless the people crying are on the 33% that voted for DBL termination, but then it’s the minority crying outloud and stating that they are “everyone”, which they aren’t.

I’m on HoD and I WAS sleeping in YB BL. I was waiting on a 32 queue to get into EBG.
Tier 4? That explains everything.
HoD and YB are T3… CD rolled T4 on both resets when DBL came live.

I’m pretty sure the desert borderland was also created with the thirds concept in mind (thus why the towers/keeps had the WP tied to the server that spawned at that side), but since people still had the ABL “Homeland” mentality, DBL ended up making a poor job (discount all the sheer hate for DBL).

People been saying WvW is dead for 3 years now. It’s pointless to try argue against it.

All these changes were done in april… They are listed in this post a bit after the raiding and scribe part.
Everyone that was doing WvW was told about the pool (They sent a mail to anyone who ranked up in WvW during the pool time). If you weren’t playing the game, it’s not their fault. They did called all active players during that time to vote.
Yeah but my point is: they did chose to be put up with the map, so they have no right to complain about it being there.
They don’t seen to be up to be put with that one map with all the constant moaning about DBL we read here. If it was actually true, people would just suck it up and completely ignore the existance of DBL.
It’s still not a perfect map but they’ve made improvements to it. I’m more happy about variety than having no variety. And we had a blast with friends playing there last night.
The improvements are old and there’s really few who enjoy that map – what sense does it make to make it a permanent equal borderland if there’s only 5 of each server on it?
They could’ve added it to EotM – that would have made more sense.

Well, in NA the server that is winning T1 is alone against 2 servers that have links… If these servers were alone they would be losing even harder. Your argument of using linked T1 servers as faulty balance is invalid.
Presently TC is not linked. But DB will be back up on friday I’m sure
BG also beat DB last week. So my statement still stand.
Server relinking occurs on friday … hopefully it helps a few of the ‘very’ uneven matchups/servers
I’m hoping as well. I’m relatively new to WvW, but I’ve enjoyed it a lot despite being on the shorter end of a mis-match. Gates of Madness is currently linked with Sorrow’s Furnace, but I see in the beta list of the new linkings we’ll now be linked with Sea of Sorrows. I hoping it’s a good match up and that we’re put against a fair mixture.
That list was from the first links, 4 months ago. There is no list for the next links and we’ll only know when the matchup start.

Well, the core issues stay and Anet is running out of time. Bless Online, Camelot Unchained and Crowfall are very close, and if Anet did not manage to fix core WvW issues until their releases, people will just leave WvW to new RvR games.
Neither of these games have a release date, how can you say they are “very close”?

It’s always glorious to bait the blob that loves running over small numbers to your spawn and pull some people unto the Legendary Defenders.
If they just add Bloodlust to DBL, they will just kill it’s purpose again and nobody will bother fighting for it unless you don’t have the one in your own map. But they shouldn’t just leave it without anything.
The ideal would be a different buff for different maps (which implies that if we ever get a 3rd borderland it should have a buff different from ABL and DBL ones).
DBL had quite a lot of action in my matchup yesterday. I had outnumbered buff all night and the map kept changing between blue and green with orange swords popping around.
