Yesterday i was testing my DD thief spec (12K HP pool). Then suddenly i got downed. I was checking around and i couldn’t find any player… so i decided to check out my combat log:

So I’m just wondering: should I “learn2walk” or give elementary mathematics masterclass to the Devs?

Staff thieves will get crush easily by any ranged weapon.. the only thing that may help you to deal dmg is the fact that “Bounding dodger” and staff 5 share almost the same animation, so you ennemy may lose CD trying to hit /rupt you during the Bound dodge, thinking you’ve used staff 5..

Hello guys! I’ll try to make this thread as clear as possible and not too painful to read. Also i apologize in advance for the english mistakes i could make. ^^’

So after i tested the Acro line out for few days, i made my own conclusion about it.
Like most of you know already, evade capacity granted by this line have been nerfed a lot.
I personally like the new endurance regeneration just because it limit general evade spam (yet players keep dodging randomly).

While I agree with the feline grace was OP before and encouraged too much brainless dodges, i think the line deserve a bit more survability revolving around the “always on your toes” gameplay.
So here i come with few ideas. I leave my thoughts and explanations about thoses possible changes.
I also hope Devs are gonna take a look at it, this will maybe give them similars ideas.. who knows? =)

Minors:

Expeditious dodger: increase <swiftness> from 2s to 3s upon dodging.
+Just to compensate a bit the boon duration loss, especially for the ooc speed move.

Feline grace: same as now.

Endless stamina: Effect of <vigor> is enhance by 50% on you as well as effects of <weakness> are reduce by 50%.
+The idea is to avoid the only defensive mecanic of this line to be completely killed by only one condition. Also compensate the loss of fluid strikes, so weakness don’t shutdown completely your damages as well.

Adepts:

Fleet shadow: gain 2s of <super speed> upon entering stealth [5sec ICD].
+Allow Dagger off hand users quick repositionning using CnD, and also rewarding them with faster movements in combat.

Vigorous recovery: increase <vigor> gained when using healing skill from 5s to 7s.
+Compensate the boon duration loss, and also the nerf of <Withdraw> CD which is the only healing skill use to trigger this trait.

Pain response: same as now.

Masters:

Guarded initiation: Remove <slow> <vulnerability> <Weakness> and <cripple> from yourself when you critically hit a foe while above the threshold [75% health]. Conditions are removed 1 by 1. No ICD.
+Lowered the threshold restriction to make the trait more functional. Added <cripple> to the removed conditions for a better synergy with [Don’t stop] GM trait. Changed functionality from “when striking” to “when critically hit” to avoid multiple hits skills such as dancing dagger to grant a 100% chance 4 conditions cleanse with one skill only.

Swindler equilibrium: same as now.

Hard to catch: same as now.

Grandmasters:

Assassin reward: changed functionality to: when you successfully evade an attack foes around you are blinded for 2s (240 radius, 5 targets). Cannot trigger more than once every 10s. Trigger at the end of the evade frames (dodge roll or evading skills).
+With the actual power creep and AoE spam, i came up with this idea so the thieves going in a team fight at melee range could survive a bit longer (especially since evades capacity have been nerfed).
This will also give the opportunity to thieves playing evade skills such as <death blossom> or <pistolwhip> to put more pressure on team fight without suffering too much AoE dmg.

Upper hand: gain 1 initiative, 2 stacks of might for 15s, and 15 endurance regen upon successful evade. Cannot trigger more than once every 10s.
+Merged [Quick recovery] [Power of inertia] and previous [Feline grace] all in one trait. Still fitting the “on evade” gameplay. 10s ICD to prevent mindless dodges spam and over might stacking.

Don’t stop: Added 2s of <resistance> upon converting <immobilize> to <cripple>.
+Added <resistance> to avoid a double incoming <immobilize> being covered by a <cripple> letting thief in a worst position than it should be. Also give a small window for <withdraw> users to heal them-self without suffering poison effect.

Please leave sword alone. This weapon have already been fixed and nerfed plenty of time.
If you take the recall under 10s, you simple take out the possibility to sword 2 > swap to SB for 10s > swap back and recall (during combat obsviously).
And actually sword 2 have a lot of issues atm, i would rather propose to fix the teleports before we talk about any tweak..

Seriously, while i agree, fighting thieves can be frustrating due to their survability, (i personally hate fighting D/P thieves, especially in wvw. I still believe 3s reveal is too short imHo) i really doubt that class would be playable if the complainers’ ideas were incorporate in the game…
Complainers rarely see the battle from the other side. It is also very frustrating as a thief to be random dodged on steal, blocked, blind, invul atm you attempt any action.
While it can be a l2p issue, there is also a matter of luck in every encounter.

@ Toxsa.2701 This is a video i recently made about issues that can be game breaking (imo), you can clearly see (teleports part), that teleports fail a lot more than before.
Thoses issues happen to me every day many time. The best thing: it’s totally random!

I would love to see more counterplay in this game, but this would go for every class.

Since Devs seem to expect more active/ reactive gameplay around evade with this new FG trait, i hope they will also tweak the skill queue for “evade skills”, and at least let thoses overwrite the Auto Attack so you can really hit the evade skill button and get your evade on reaction…

This video is a short compilation of some major bugs (imo) that can ruin a PvP game.
Some of them have been reported while ago. Thoses in this video are:
1- the “Air Root” or Air Immobilize
2- teleports failures, especially the recalls.
3- obstructed attacks / projectils with a clear LoS

The idea is to provide some footage that may help the Devs to fix thoses bugs.
Thoses are less important than some crashes bugs / freeze that completely prevent the game to be played, but please tell me you guys are going to fix them before you’ll fix “mordrem problem” achievement…

I’m not gonna complain. I’m happy we got some nice buffs. But seriously someone trying to minimize the efficiency and the power of this future SA line is just crazy.
We’ll have the best condi cleanse rate in game + half damage + perma regen + perma stealth just using heartseeker x4 in black powder..
A d/p thief will be unkillable in wvw and yet more dangerous than ever due to stats / trait lines parting..

EVERY single class will have strong buffs: condi or raw dmg. Pls stop pointing out this or that build will be overpower. They will be, it’s obvious. EVERY build have the potential to be OP. This is a way to balance a game and a good way to provide diversity of strong builds.
A lot of people complain that some build were lackluster. Now are you gonna complain because theres more viable builds?

BTW trapper runes are world vs wood rune only not pvp…

WvW D/P thieves (SA traited) are way too much carried by this spec. You can make a laaawwt of mistakes and yet survive. Not mentioning the power creep (foods / stacks) that allows thoses thieves to deal big damages.
I really don’t wanna see 3s reveal in sPvP, i would rather see the 4s in World vs Wood.
Good thieves in sPvP are not complaining about the 4s, mostly the whine comes from the WvW thieves that don’t want to / cannot adapt..
Ask your self why most of the other classes hate us…

Btw there are things way more important to help thieves than this reveal timer > obstructed point blanked projectils, failed teleports on flat ground for no reason (thanks to the update), and so on..

S/P 2/6/0/0/6 works well using pistol whip to wreck the turrets pretty quick.. but beside this, i also avoid soloing engi as S/D or even D/P.

Agree with Belarorn, RFI tweak isn’t the priority atm, but still i would love to play it if the skill was more viable. Actually swapping bountiful theft for trickster to reduce the CD is just meh….
But i like Shockwave idea: 40s CD, 3/4s evade, even 2-3 ini gain would be nice since it already cleaning movement impeding condition..

I had severals issues recently with SS as well. It did not even port me away, but instead just standing still, like if you doing InfiSig without having a target. Died a lot because of it…

About the same PC configuration. Checked my connection several times. Latest updates done. Everything have been checked but I still do have the same problem and on a top of that i do have some DCs.
To me it occurs during prime time like 6/7pm until 11/12pm.
This mess started 2 weeks ago now… need some answers…

Hi everyone.
First of all, my english isn’t really perfect, but i’ll try my best to express my thoughts about the current state of the thief… (maybe not the right spot to write it down, but another nerf topic poped up, so i decided to jump on it).

To get straight to the point i played thief for something like 2.3K hours both PvP / WvW (a bit of PvE too).
Recently i switched to warrior for those reasons: CC , burst, toughness, mobility, and so on.. in the same build.
On a top of that too much classes can have access to stealth and nice mobility, so i don’t feel being “special” playing thief. (I would say the same as a necro with torment).
When I first started the game really expected each class can have something really unique, really particular.

In WvW it’s just much more interesting playing warrior: even more greater mobility (playing with sword instead of mace, for extra gaps or heights jumping, resets, chasing etc..). Running melandru runes, food and “dodge march”, your almost unstopable.
Rolling back to my thief, i feel really slow, even burning my ini to move faster.
Yet thief still masters heights if your know where to port, even if it have been nerfed a bit.
To me Stealth isn’t that strong in sPvP neither in WvW. However perma stealth (D/P set) is IMHO specially when you just burst down a squishy target that don’t have time to react in half a sec.
I really think Thief gameplay is too unstable and should be rework to be more consistent with the whole gameplay…

Right after the last patch Steal reload wasn’t bugged. The tooltip correctly displayed 17.5s.
Now the reload isn’t what it should be with or without trait XII

As a GC thief (classic 25/30/0/0/15) i was hit by raven’s swoop for more than 10K (4.5K +6K).
Was unable to crit more than 2.5K with a backstab (because of prot boon) on the pet nor the master. Just saying….

How to I beat a D/P wvw thief

First of all, remember that your shortbow kite really well D/P set. So that the weapon set you should use to controle the fight. On a top of that going stealth via BP+HS combo is expensive and can not be use forever.
Then if you play a D/D burst build, then there is a small window to burst thoses D/P thieves up:
max range (because the closest you are, the harder it is), you have to avoid the black powder shot (obviously reaction is better than prediction) – roll dodge it, or SoS it. At this point the D/P thief is gonna use the HS. This is your window to burst him up. You gonna try to land your classic pre-cnd~steal > BS in between the HS activation frames and recovery frames (don’t get too slow, to land your backstab, the thief would be probably stealthed at this moment).
Also if you feel comfortable using the shortbow, you can also stick with it, and go for pre-HS~steal when your target have 50/60% life (considering you have either fury on steal or fury at 50% foe’s life to maximize you crit chance with HS).
I’m not pretending that easy to do (i play D/P as well), just giving my method to deal with.
