A day/night cycle indicator on the mini map, preferably with a timer of some sort to tell you how long you have left in each cycle.

Edit: I would even take a /time command which gave the time remaining until day/night.

Thanks!

SaltAndLight.4652

A true n00b here and it probably showed at times. This season was my first foray into PvP in any game. I started the season about 2 weeks late as I was just trying to learn the concepts and get to rank 20.

Amber > Ruby.

  • 181 games played
  • 86 wins
  • 6 game winning streak
  • 10 game losing streak
  • 100% Chrono
  • 97% solo queue

Things I remember:

  • Some nice folks taking the time to teach me some things
  • Some not so nice folks who didn’t
  • The intensity of some of the matches
  • The frustration of the back and forth wins and losses

Thank you for posting this! If I may add a few more to your compilation:

  • Press B while you are waiting for the match to begin to see the composition of the opposing team.
  • When protecting capped points, it is best to stand half way between two points and not on the capped point. For example, don’t stand on Home if it is already capped, stand halfway between Home and Mid. This puts you in a better position to assist your team at either point when necessary. Standing on an uncontested capped point while your teammates 4v5 the rest of the map is not helpful.
  • Personal score does not directly affect the outcome of a match.
  • Sheathing your weapons cancels skill activation. This action is not bound to any key by default.
  • Splits are how your team will divide up among the points. It is denoted as #near(or home)-#mid-#far. So 1-4-0 would mean 1 player at Home and 4 to Mid, 0 to far.
  • You can interrupt enemies attempting to stomp your teammates. Additionally, if you have an AoE attack, dropping it on a downed player is usually a good idea.
  • If you are downed, do not activate your bandage skill unless you are absolutely sure you are going to recover. This just otherwise increases the time in which you are out of the fight.

Elite Phantasm

in Mesmer

Posted by: SaltAndLight.4652

SaltAndLight.4652

Phantasmal Doubleelite skill
Summons a Phantasm to attack your target using your currently equipped skills and weapons. None of its attacks have any effect, but they do produce all spell effects and attack animations.Furthermore, this Phantasm is indistinguishable from you and will react to damage by dodging and strafing while attacking.
The Phantasm has increased health and toughness, and if destroyed via shattering will resummon a Disenchanter and a Defender with limited duration.
Cooldown: 45 seconds
Duration: Until destroyed
Phantasm’s health: 50% of your own
Phantasm’s armor: 100% of your own
Replacement duration (PvE): 45 seconds
Replacement duration (PvP/WvW): 10 seconds

I like this idea a lot but would like to offer up some suggestions:

“Doppelganger” would be a cool name for an elite phantasm like this imho. It would even be a bit of a throw back to the original GW.

Instead of none of their attacks doing any damage, how about if if they spawn with whatever weapon set you were wielding at the time you cast it, and then they did the main hand 1 attack chains only. Then there would be some subtle skill to determining which weapon you want your Doppelganger to have. It’s power, condition damage, precision, ferocity, and expertise would all be the same as the casters.

I like the idea of it doing something special when shattered, but don’t forget that the Chronophantasma trait allows phantasms to respawn after the first time they are shattered, and for this reason I think creating two more phantasms would be too much. Maybe once it is shattered it creates two clones instead, a la Mirror Images? This would create a full compliment of illusions after the first shatter.

Mesmer can do a serious CC spike.

Signet of Humility and Signet of Domination, though they have long recharges, but you can use Blurred Inscriptions, Mimic, and Chronomancer’s Continuum Shift to reduce this.

They also have Mantra of Distraction and the shatter skill Diversion for Daze.

As for weapon skills, Focus’ Temporal Curtain pulls, Pistols’ Magic Bullet Dazes, and Greatswords’ Illusionary Wave knocksback.

I see this as a perfect opportunity for a PvE/PvP skill split (gasp!)

- Introduce a new mastery line for race-specific skills, increasing their efficacy with each rank ala the Factions allegiance, Nightfall promotion, and EotN reputation skills
- Add a new racial-only skill slot in PvE only beside the elite
- Each race would gain mastery XP in their home territory
- And some final mechanism to allow all races to use all racial skills once every racial mastery is maxed. Sounds strange, but remember GW1 Humans had no problem using the animal totems and Asura tech skills in EotN

I get that Anet wants no one race to be mechanically superior to another, but this seems like a good way to utilize a very large untapped aspect of the game, as well as revitalize core Tyria.

A race specific mastery line is a great idea! This is a perfect way to keep it balanced and give the Norn the shapeshifting abilities we all want.

SaltAndLight.4652

Personally, I think GW2 is a much better game now than when it was released. I struggled to enjoy it for the first 6-8 months. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn’t have what I loved so much about the original guild wars. Fast forward to HoT. I bought it, having not played GW2 for almost 2 years, and found the whole game to be much overhauled for the better. I can’t stop playing now. There is so much content, I will probably never complete everything there is to do.

That said, of course it’s not perfect. There are some things that could be better, most notably the dungeons. I feel like I missed the era of the dungeons. The pendulum swung too far on these. A reconnect to your map feature is also very much needed, and a build template/saving/sharing feature would be fantastic.

The HoT maps were frustrating for me at first, I died a lot and got lost, but I modified my build to survive, and slowly learned how to get around. Now it’s not so bad. PVE stands for player vs. environment after all, and the maps are the largest component of the environment. Stands to reason that they should be more challenging in the higher end content. I don’t mind content being “locked” behind masteries. As I have stated before, it reminds me of old school gaming concepts used in Zelda and Metroid where you had to unlock skills and items to advance in the map (I.e. The hook shot, bombs, and double jump). It gives you a sense of progression without power creep and raising the level cap with each expansion. I love the addition of gliding to the core game, too.

I’m sort of liking the dashing highwayman swashbuckler feel, I guess

Definitely something sleek and flashy. Platinum white and gold. Maybe even something like the sword of dancing from old school Dungeons and Dragons, where the sword is animated apart from the character wielding it.

Correct, you’d lose the special effects. A legendary rapier might be neat, and might make a good contrast with Bolt, which is a fairly wide and elaborate sword blade. Might be a little tricky to design, since the blade is so thin, but there are possibilities there.

I agree! It would be a challenge to design, but I think the Anet artists could do it justice.

A few ideas for themes off the top of my head:

  • Time themed with distortion/blink effects
  • Whip/Serpent themed
  • Spirit/Phantasm themed

First, let me just say that big, hulking, menacing swords are great. We have a lot to choose from in this category.

That said, I would like to see a few more rapiers. Bonnetti’s Rapier is my favorite sword skin. It’s perfect for light classes like sword wielding mesmers.

A legendary rapier would be fantastic!

HoT reminds me more of old school gaming like Zelda and Metroid, where content is locked until you obtain the right skills or items to advance. It’s a very old school gaming concept in my opinion with a new twist in the mastery system.

[Suggestion] Day/Night Cycle Indicator

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SaltAndLight.4652

SaltAndLight.4652

The time until night fall and sun rise in Heart of Thorns is very useful.

Some sort of in game identifier for game time and the day/night cycle in the rest of Tyria would be very helpful, too. In some zones, it is difficult to see the sky clearly.

A small sun/moon icon on the mini map for instance, or even a “/time” command which gave you the current game time and additional information such as dawn/day/dusk/night, would be great to let players know what the game state is where they are in the world, especially since it is more than just aesthetics and can actually affect game play.

Thank you!
