Where the kitten does anet states there’s going to be a big patch tomorrow? Ppl keep repeating this ad nauseam.

Its the typical “The miracle patch is coming and will fix all whiners problems and this game will prosper” nonsense that fanboys love to spout.

So let’s say you complete a zone with your level 80 character, when you create an alt all the heart-quests would be completed? All the POIs? What about the experience points you get from them?

I agree that creating an alt and doing the same heart quests that you just did with your L80 is a bit daunting; but I’m sure once you’re done with world completion and they’re not as fresh in your mind, it would get better.

This, basically. It simply wouldn’t work out.

I support these changes, especially the ones about survivability. However, I think it’d work out better if instead of a pet dodge roll system, pets just take 5-15% of AoE damage.

Well, if you have RTS experience, micromanaging pets with a “Go to” and a “Stay” command can definitely make a difference. For example, you could start a fight with your pet, and command him to go to the opposite direction of yourself while the pet still has the aggro to create distance between you and your enemy. Or for shortbow users, instead of having to run all the way around behind your target to apply the bleed, you can tell your pet to go behind the target so your enemy has his back to you, making it much easier to apply bleeds.

Not only that, if your pet stays in AoE circles, you can easily tell him to leave it without having to use F3 (sometimes F3 doesn’t work when you’re close to the pet)

Also, added a fifth suggestion about removing “Guard” and “Search and Rescue” and making it available at all times

Since the only threads on pets are all extremely long, I have decided to help the community and write a shorter thread helping ArenaNet to fix pets. No one wants to read a huge wall of text, so here I’ll try to be brief and concise.

ArenaNet devs, if you’re here, please read!

The following are the changes that should happen:

  1. Let pet’s attack and cast F2 abilities while on the move! This is the MOST important aspect of retaining pet DPS against mobile targets. As of right now, not only do pets sometime miss, they are losing damage because they only get about 1/3rd the amounts of hits off because they have to chase the target, stop, attack and repeat.
  2. Pets should only take partial AoE damage, to make up for the fact that they can’t evade, or even get out of AoE circles.
  3. Pet bars should include a “Go to” and a “Stay” command. This is extremely important, and I was surprised this was not included in the game considering that this game is so heavily movement based. I can’t tell you how many uses these two simple commands can create.
  4. Pet bars should have boons and conditions listed under them.
  5. Make “Guard” and “Search and Rescue” a part of the pet bar, instead of a skill slot. Does anyone really Guard for its intended purpose? In fact, I don’t think this’d make a big difference even if it’s a part of the petbar. More info HERE
  6. More extensive pet panel, better accessibility, allow players to look at different pets without having to switch to it

These are all the functionality based improvements that I can think of right now. I’m sure that many ranger players would agree with me that these need to be implemented. ArenaNet, if you’re reading this, please add these functions to pets as these changes really will make the ranger class much less crippled than they are now.

If you have any other suggestions, please post them here, try to keep them as short as possible so devs can read them quickly.

Whether or not Guard is put onto the pet bar, I think that there NEEDS to be a “Go to” and a “Stay” on it. I can’t believe the game shipped without these two functions on the pet bar, especially considering that movement is larger factor in this game than most others.

Guard is not worth a skill slot in itself. In fact, I think that it should be a pet command that is included in the petbar itself.

Does anyone else agree with me? I mean, c’mon, does ANYONE use Guard?

Let pets attack while moving

Rangers are losing a large chunk of potential damage because pets would always stop before attacking. This leads to two problems:
1. The pet sometime misses the attack. Although this doesn’t happen all the time, it cuts down on the pet’s DPS.
2. It makes the pet attack far less often, since there’s always a pause between attacking and the pet has to chase the target before pausing again, which again cuts down on the pet’s DPS. Unlike problem 1, this problem is guaranteed, and occurs no matter what.

This will also encourage pet-oriented play, which I’m very interested in (and I certainly believe a lot of other people too). This change has to happen, or the ranger class will remain crippled as there are far too many pet-oriented traits in our traitlines that are made irrelevant because of our pet’s incompetence in sPvP.

No, each bleed stack is tracked separately. It has an indivual timer, ticks independently of all other bleed stacks and deals damage based on the condition damage of the person that applied that stack.
So in your scenario where you stack your 50 dps bleeds on an enemy and then the pets 10 dps bleed, the bleed stacks from your pet would still deal 10 damage while yours tick for 50.

Is this tested? Because when you look at the conditions on the enemy, there is only one bleed condition

Yes, your condition damage does not effect your pet’s.

However, I’m not 100% sure about this (didn’t test it by myself), but I’ve read from multiple people that when it comes to bleeding, the tics come from whoever has the HIGHEST condition damage. So say if your pet would do 10 damage per tick per stack, and your bleed does 50 damage per tick per stack, your pet’s bleed would stack on top of yours, and each stack your pet places on the bleed would add 50 damage (as long as you apply bleeds consistently)

It’s a glitch that has happened to a friend of mine as well.

Probably something related to the fact that gw2 will eventually be released in China.

But the characters don’t make any sense whatsoever. It’s LITERALLY (not exaggerating) the equivalent of something like “fhdsajf ajdkfh kjdas jdahf dja”

Don’t underestimate the salmon and the moa. I’ve heard horror stories about the moa. And I watched a shark take on a salmon… and lose. O.o

Yeah, same here, except I was watching a deer fight a jaguar. The deer was winning by quite a margin. After a while, I couldn’t take it anymore and felt sorry for the jaguar, so I shot the deer dead with my bow.

These are missing, hopefully you add them, I just want a game where dedicated and pet-orientated playstyle is actually viable.

Ranger pets:

  • Let pets attack while moving. This is really important because in PvP, us Ranger lose a chunk of damage that’s supposed to come from our pets. Pets would always do a long animation each time it attacks, and it is almost never able to hit a moving target. This has got to change.
  • Pet attributes should scale with players attributes. Right now, a pet-orientated playstyle is very much discouraged because of their inability to hit moving targets and not being able to enhance their stats to your liking.
  • Pets take way too much damage in its current form to be effective. Pets can’t evade, nor can they move like players can. Pets should have a special effect that let’s them only take 5-10% damage from AoE spells. After all, they don’t even move out of the circle unless the player micromanages the pet extremely carefully.

My mistake then, this is the same as QZ? Which while one of my favourite skills for sPvP, the 4 second buff isn’t long enough for me (well sure, it’d be way to overpowered any longer since I can drop some classes in that) but I wouldn’t warrant the 5 points still, I love my build far too much.

Yes, it’s the same as that, except 2 seconds instead of 4 seconds.

Pets cannot attack while moving and take too much aoe damage.

And why is it I’ve never seen gear with ‘Pet Attribute Bonus’ on it, all other trait tree bonuses are represented.
Also, what is it about airline food???

That’s a great idea actually, it’d be great if they had gear targeted towards pet-orientated rangers.

This design choice practically makes the game tell you not to try any kind of pet-orientated build.

Anyone else disappointed in this? At least they could’ve added a trait in the Beastmastery traitline that lets pets scale with the player.
