Get it from Orr karma vendors or run AC/SE/HotW
I’m loving this build but the lack of a stun breaker is really troubling. I can only stare at the screen helplessly when I’m stunned while my enemies rip me to shreds.
On the other hand, the control, adaptability, damage and abundance of condition removers provided by this build really sets itself apart.
Change toolkit 2 into a stunbreaker. It’ll probably have to be on a high cooldown, but kits need a stunbreaker
Blunderbusses aren’t rifles at all. Rifles are firearms that have rifling inside the barrel to maintain stability of the projectile when released. Blunderbusses don’t have rifling. If anything, blunderbusses are predecessors of shotguns.
I still support this idea however, just wanted to get that straight. At the very least this can serve as a bump.

I haven’t had much trouble keeping up with other classes as an engineer.
It’s not as bad as people make it out to be, but the engineer is still one of the most problematic professions in this game.
Well, most of the basic skins for rifles (you know, the models for the ones that go from level 1-60) have big barrels and resemble an exaggerated blunderbuss.
However, I do agree that each skin should have some unique flavour to it, more than just on a visual standpoint. It’d be amazing if each gun could have its own animation and hell, even unique sounds.
I’ve always thought of rifle engineers as the Tyrian equivalent of a modern shotgun user.
Skill #1 is sort of like a shotgun slug (which can be accurate up to 100 yards), while #3 and #4 are buckshot shells for close range combat.
If we were to have a new icon, I’d suggest a wrench.
1 and 2 should cause burn ON HIT. It’s stupid how FT 1 causes burn on the very last hit.
This. Or maybe make each hit cause burn with very short durations. The way it works right now makes no sense.
I wouldn’t go as far to say the OP is a troll. The thing is, being able to summon undead, and turning into lightning could well be a part of the world lore.
Building turrets is part of the lore to. Baffles me how it doesn’t seem trollish to you that posters who offer nothing constructive, create a thread to portray a professions concept in a negative light.
What did he hope to accomplish other then to bring negativity and be inflammatory?
No good can come from his comment. Its is not like he is stiring and intellectual debate or offering beneficial food for thought.
Of course turrets are a part of the lore. However, the part where the engineer conjures the turrets out of nothing IS NOT. The engineer would’ve spent some time constructing the turret as a part of the fight. However, that’s not the decision ArenaNet decided to go with when they created the game. They wanted turrets to have some mobility rather than being completely stationary, so they didn’t include the part where the engineer would spent time making the turret.
Oh and I’m sure the OP is just posting this complaint in a light mood. I don’t think he/she had the intention of defaming the Engineer.
What is worse, is you defend him asking his questions, but I ask counter questions and you offer some generic non-answer by saying it “could” be part of the world lore.
You justify it with straw man arguments like “The thief didn’t LITERALLY turn invisible, he simply hid”……Really? I was running 2 feet behind him, shooting him in the back with a pistol, and then he is miraculously gone from site, and we are to expected to accept your ridiculous answer for that while arguing any answer we offer the OP. Now your not even being reasonable my friend.
What I’m trying to explain to you is that it’s a mechanic. For example, in a fight in a castle, an agile and nimble fighter such as the thief couple use the environment to his advantage and hop behind a wall quickly. There’s no game mechanic for that, so it’s replaced by a general game mechanic of “stealth”. You’re taking the game too literally.

When I play the class, it feels I’m all always pulling things out of my butt.
Like.. it doesn’t feel right when I conjure big turrets out of no where. Where was my character keeping these things? Does she really drag them along with her everywhere she goes?It just feels like my character is always carrying so much stuff.. like unlimited grenades and big heavy bombs for example.
And how about that Airdrop Elite skill? Where does THAT stuff come from? There are planes in Tyria? And if there are, how did my character send coordinates to an aircraft to drop supplies to her position?
Anyone else feel the same?Right, because turning into lightening to shoot forward, summoning undead, having a pet scorpion that follows your commands, healing people by yelling (shouts), going invisible to stealth, and cloning yourself with magic feels so realistic.
If you do not like the feel of the class, do not play it. No need make troll thread to flaunt your distaste on the sub forum of the profession.
I wouldn’t go as far to say the OP is a troll. The thing is, being able to summon undead, and turning into lightning could well be a part of the world lore.
However, thiefs going invisible to stealth is game mechanic. Like reading a good book, our imagination should be filling the gaps and determine how the fight really would’ve went down. The thief didn’t LITERALLY turn invisible, he simply hid. The idea is the thief hid so well that you don’t know where he is.
The point is OP, you need to be able to distinguishing between game mechanics and what the game is trying to tell you, Especially in a genre like MMOs where the game has to be so restrictive and limiting in how things work. Once you understand this, you’ll realize all these things are non issues.
Why can people take so hundreds of gunshots to the chest and survive? It’s a game mechanic. If the game was to be completely logical, lore based and “realistic”, a sword should slice right through enemies. Any single gunshot should kill. An engineer would only need to bring a few grenades with him, since explosions would blow his enemies into smithereens.
But that wouldn’t be fun.
(edited by Schixeno.8596)
Maybe the Engineer uses magic to do those things
It’s no different from conjuring fireballs
(But on a serious note, IMO, those are game mechanics, and I don’t think it’s a direct representation of the idea of Engineers and how they fight in the lore)
I usually don’t reply like this but… is this thread serious? If so, LOL
The problem with turrets currently is that there’s no clear purpose of it. Why use something immobile, weak, and does mediocre damage when you have more useful utilities like grenade kits and bomb kits which can be used on the fly? It doesn’t serve a clear purpose.
Turrets, because of its inability to move, should be a weapon aimed for a clearer purpose. It should be able to lock enemies out of a region, and make that area the engineer’s playground. Right now however, turrets are very confused. It’s an instant cast, yet immobile with a longish cool down. Are turrets meant to be an offensive tool, or defensive? It tries to be both, but fails miserably at both.
A good solution to this problem, is to change the turrets in a way that it focuses them on the idea of area denial. Instead of being an instant cast, turrets should take 20-40(depending on balance) seconds to set up, and if damage is taken while setting up, you will stop and have to start over again completely. In turn, turrets should be much tougher, have significantly higher health, and tons more damage. Instead of having a cool down timer, turrets should have a set up timer.
This solves a few design problems with the turrets. Most importantly, it gives turrets something to excel at. Turrets will become the go to tools to prevent enemies from entering a specific area. On the flip side however, they will have no offensive capabilities whatsoever. But that’s the whole point, that’s the purpose it serves. It defends, and it’ll be able to defend well, unlike the current turrets. This will also give the engineer class something to excel at. An engineer with a bunch of turrets beside him should be a sight to behold. Anyone who tries to go into an engineer’s nest will be at the engineer’s mercy, but if an engineer exits his nest, his/her lack of offensive utility slots will make him/her an easy prey.
I know this might be a difficult system for ArenaNet to implement, because it needs to change the whole turret idea completely. ArenaNet, if you’re reading this, maybe you can take some of this idea to heart and for the next expansion, change the turrets up a bit so us engineers can finally some fun with it.

Try guesting on Kaineng, most zones here are nicely populated
Props to Ron Yuan for making the best player character voice. Just thought I’d make a post to tell everyone.
Feel six feet tall
Make a Charr then, not silent, but more baritone.
Charr by far. Har har har
Yea, we need more flexibility in the skills and more skills to chose from. i.e at least 8 skills per weapon to choose
No. We don’t need more complexity, we need more depth. I’m all for adding new weapons types, but 5 per weapon/weaponset is fine as is.
Grenades not scaling with your weapons is not a bug. It’s the same for other temporary weapons too, like Ele’s conjured weapons (although that gives you bonus power for a while). They do scale with power on your armour though, so it’s still okay
I predict that all three get nerfed.
Actually I lied. I predict that engineers will be removed.
I think a good solution is to make the kits scale better. Do they scale at all currently? I’m not sure.
Here’s a good video explaining depth and complexity in video games:
http://www.penny-arcade.com/patv/episode/depth-vs.-complexity
I’m not too sure, but I always assumed that the damage of each is related to the skill provided by each weapon
This is one of the worst suggestions I’ve heard yet… Might as well make transmutation stone work cross weapons too while you’re at it. Let’s make tridents into longbows and greatswords into warhorns just for the variety and customization.
Yes, spears, we need spears! Spears should be able to stay out of melee range of other weapons. If done right, it’d be amazing.
Heroin is a depressant
Because heroin suppresses the central nervous system, the user experiences “cloudy” mental function.
And it doesn’t excite you like caffeine does. But I know what you mean.
Ohmigoshohmigoshohmigosh! Squeee, I’ve been mentioned by someone! XD Neat surprise to open a thread and see your name suddenly pop up!
ROFL The Squeee was a nice touch.
Way to sell it? I don’t think this is a very positive post. We all agree that the engineer is fun. We all agree that the engineer is in sad shape right now. This entire post just makes me think you are AMPED up on way too much caffeine or possibly heroine. You didn’t say one good thing about the engineer except that it is fun and it is the best class.
Obviously you’ve not done much heroin.
Hey, he could be snorting women? Excuse the typo.
Lol I come to the forums for the company =D plus ever since the nerf, trolling my engie has never been so much fun XD.
Agreed. I find that most of the people trolling the engineer forum do so in a lighthearted manner. It’s more the general forums that lack a sense of humor about things. Joking about how bad your favorite profession is, is certainly a better way to handle the agony of sucktardedness than flaming ANet for it. Are threads like Famous Quotes for the Engineer really offensive? I don’t think so. They’re hilarious but sometimes sadly true.
Heroin is a depressant
How will movement work? When you’re mounted, would you be faster? How will turning around and momentum work? This might prove interesting if you could figure out these first.
Why is it that we can only use spears while underwater? Spears are easily one of the most effective combat weapons in the hands of an experienced user. With it’s vastly superior reach, it wouldn’t be too difficult to defeat an opponent with equal skill who use weapons with shorter reach.
With the reach in mind, there’s potential for true melee variety in the game. For example, spears users should be able attack enemies without having to stand right next to them like sword users. This would spice up melee combat in the game and add the dimension of reach into the equation.
Always listen to players in-game before players on the message boards, in any game. Players don’t go to the forums to thank the developers and talk about how much they enjoy something; they’re in the game, enjoying the something they enjoy. And often, on a whim, after doing something with the something they enjoy, they’ll say how much they love the something they just did with the something they enjoy.
A video game’s message boards are essentially the 1-star reviews that you look at to get a feel for the negative aspects. You rarely get to see the 5-star comments that praise the positive, here.
This. The forum is basically the trash bin of the game community. And I’m saying this not just for GW2, but for almost every single game I’ve came across. If you visit any forum of a popular video game (not including Indie games/games with a small cult following like Dwarf Fortress etc.), I can assure you that 80% + will be of people complaining. Of course, some people will provide constructive criticism and point out what really need to be fixed, but most will exaggerate and blow the smallest problems out of proportion and make it seem as if it’s the worst thing in the world.
The good thing is though, the forum usually represents only the part of the player base who dislike the game, which, for GW2 is a considerably small portion. Next time you visit a forum, don’t always listen to others’ opinions all the time and try to decide for yourself.
“That ain’t a nerf; this is a nerf.” – Crocodile Dundee
you all must say nerf out loud in your best paul hogan impression. i command it!
That made me chuckle
Seriously. How can you play this game by just using auto attack? As a staff elementalist player, using only autoattack in almost ANY situation is a quick death for me. Using crowd control and activating defensive abilities is vital to if you want any success.
Guys, please stop bumping and let this thread die already (and if you’re planning to say that I just bumped it, well I only bumped it from second from the top) because it’s simply silly. Whether or not the population is declining, the game is FARRRRR from dead and that’s the bottom line.
Just because they use magic doesnt call them a caster… Compare to casters in game such as necros or eles….. no similarity at all
That rebuttal works both ways, it’s entirely up to interpretation.
And the Guardian’s ranged skills are VERY caster-like, regardless of their effectiveness.
I personally think the new Soldier class should be even more aggressive then the Warrior.
Perhaps something that emulates animals like how the Norn are devised, or like Udyr from League of Legends.
Maybe throw ‘Brass Knuckles’ as a new weapon type that would be an option for some of the existing professions but would be the go-to weapon for this fighter-profession.It would make combat feel more hands-on with entirely hand-related skills like:
- “Choke”, channel onto an enemy for up to 5 seconds, dealing damage and stunning them (but stunning yourself as well)
- “Toy with your enemy”, grab an enemy and swing them around, dealing PBAoE damage, then launching said enemy away.
- “Beat down”, get on top of an enemy and beat on them, crippling them and dealing heavy damage and bleeds.
Fun stuff that you can’t pull off in the same manner with a standard weapon in hand.
Like a Viking Berserker! That might prove to be interesting.
Well, I’m running around in the Norn starting area and I can’t really spend more than 20 seconds without seeing other people. I just did the Frozen Maw quest (and this is only the starting level 1-15) with 10-20 other people, so no, this game is far from dead.
But then again, somebody above me mentioned that Tarnished Coast is the most highly populated (don’t know if it’s true), so I’m not too sure how the other servers are doing.
Server transfers should have never been free. It ruins WvW
Not only that, it might kill server communities. That’s one of the reasons for people that had quit WoW
I quit playing after the first week, because some stuff in real life came up. To be honest, I completely forgot about this game. I started playing again tonight and.. well suffice to say my server’s lower level areas are deserted. It’s not very inviting at all..
Try Tarnished Coast or Dragonbrand. There are bunches people practically sitting in the starter’s areas talking.
I’m on Dragonbrand and I see people everywhere. I just spent some time in the Norn starting zone and there’s flocks of people. When I was fighting a veteran mob, it started out with 2 people and by the end there were 5 (and this is the Norn startin zone, level 5 area). It really isn’t nearly as bad as people claim. Maybe sometimes less people are online, but it’s not that bad.
I’m more bothered by the fact that nothing is immune to bleeding. earth elementals, ghosts, golems…they all bleed. I figure if they were going to give the dredge an immunity based in lore they should have been more consistent with it as an over all design.
It isn’t anything game breaking. Obviously it comes down to a game play based decision taking precedent over lore. But I can definitely relate with you being puzzled by it.
Bleeding is a major mechanic for a lot of playstyles, being immune to bleeding will cut the damage output of condition builds by a lot… And if they make these immune to bleeding, there’s much less of a reason to play a condition based build, and there will be MUCH more people complaining about this.
Try turning off VSync. Unless you are really sensitive to screen tearing, it might improve the stuttering.
Added:
- More extensive pet panel, better accessibility, allow players to look at different pets without having to switch to it
Along with pets, these are some of the biggest problems that plagues the ranger class. I agree and let’s hope the dev fix it soon.
I expected some tweaking for us rangers through the 9/24 patch. However, the F2 fix hasn’t even arrived yet. The devs need to give this some attention.
Please consider supporting my suggestion thread regarding my pets, please also add suggestions of your own if you know anything. Thanks!

Let’s hope they put out something competent so not everyone moves onto Pandaland
So I tell the OP in a previous post hoping that it gets fixed in tomorrow’s patch.
What does the OP say back? “He’s a fanboy and he’s sprouting non-sense, this will never be fixed in a patch.”
If you’re so convinced that it’ll never be fixed, why are you bothering to argue about it?
