‘’Enrage Timer’’ ?
What kind of casual things are you spouting ?
So Bersker gear should be a ‘’MUST HAVE 100%’’ to beat the encounter ?

just for your info johnny, the enrage timer was used as an example (you will even find the sentence “let me give you an example” in my other post) to explain to people that we dont have a trinity, how our combat system works and that you pick gear according to your skill level in PvE. but from your post it seems you are not very experienced when it comes to raiding content so thats totally ok and i will not take your post serious.

i would personally like to see enrage timers because it will actually force people to become better at the game. but on the other hand i know that there are people who simply want to use defensive gear for the sake of using defensive gear. so i am completely fine if we dont get to see any enrage timers and people can play how they want (if they are successful is a different question).

So an enrage timer will make ppl more skilled ?
This is beyong me …. i dont really have words to describe it ….
Or will it make the encounter a DPS RACE like other games ?
Have you played seriously raid in other games ?

5 months now , you always try to shut down ppl opionion that:
‘’istances is not about DPS’’
‘’you are not forced to run only Berseker gear’’
‘’istances are not competive encounters’’

And you are here now …. saying we must implant a a DPS RACE in the game and we should make exactly the same ecnounters like the dungeons that you hate (huge HP + slow telegraphs?) ?

If the game ‘’ johnny’’ will be balanced around pppl will defensiuve gear , the boss will have LESS HP and LESS ENRAGE TIMER to be beat by any1 .
So your super guild and the rest of the planet , wont have to fight a gazilion HP bosses ……
, but instead your Bersker guild will melt down the boss faster than anything …..

Back in the day when people raided, they figured out that they could kite bosses infinitely staying just out of reach or trading off tanks or whatever just long enough for cool downs to come back up. This trivialized the encounters and made them super easy, provided people had the time to play this out. Enrage timers weren’t originally implemented on a wide scale to make everything dps races but to balance out the content so that unskilled/under-geared people couldn’t just ignore mechanics and win.

It doesn’t have to be an enrage timer. This issue could just as easily be handled with increased health regeneration rate. Maybe some other ideas could be put forth so that enrage timers don’t have to be the anti-trivialization method of choice.

lets say a boss has 5 defiance stacks you need 6 interrupts to stun the boss. but what if the boss regains defiance stacks the longer you wait to take them down. like 2 players use CC and remove 2 defiance stacks. if the other players dont use 4 CC skills within 5 seconds the boss will have 6 defiance stacks again.

I think the problem with it being time based is that the CC in this game is endless and for some professions/builds it is almost if not completely spammable. So a phase would have to generated during each boss encounter in which the boss reacts to its own Defiance stack count to try to prevent players from succeeding in reducing it to zero. Not sure how that would feel to play out in a fight but it sounds interesting.

I like the idea of Defiance stacks being lowered in the same manor as they do now but instead of only allowing one CC skill to take affect it should render the boss stunned in a double damage window of opportunity.

Defiance could function as a stagger counter. It could be something that parties have to really fight for. Maybe instead of just counting in a repetitive up and down cycle the stacks could build up by one for each player hit by an attack. Bosses could gain two or three stacks for each player put in down state and four or five stacks per player rendered double down.

I also think that Bosses and trash mobs, alike, should act more like players. Suppose a player doesn’t execute a dodge in time and loses 60% of his health to an attack, the NPC should then focus that player and try to hammer that player until double down is achieved.

He means Traits selection, 6-0 Skills selection, Weapon selection, Gear Stat Combo selection, Rune Set and Sigil selection, Food and Utility buff selection.

I understand that sentiment exactly. Raiding is a part of PvE though, and we should be trying to make it more so instead of make it more of a fringe thing like you have in other games where there’s ‘the entire game, and raiding’ almost diametrically opposed to one another.

A million times “no.” Raiding is a PvE activity, but it is a very specific flavor of PvE, and not for everyone’s tastes. Those who like raiding can have raiding, and it should be fun for them, but those that do not enjoy raiding, do not enjoy raiding, just accept that, move on, and leave them in peace.

Exactly this. It is a specific flavor of PvE. It is like farming World Bosses, or farming Cursed Shore events, or farming anything else for that matter. Even with what challenge that is introduced by the raid encounter it’ll still amount to farming if drops/rewards are exclusive to it unless all necessary exclusive items are given the first time through making it so that you never have to go back. Even then people shouldn’t be forced or feel forced to do something that isn’t fun for them.

So by that notion, dungeon and fractal skins should be attainable through every single activity in the GW2 universe? It’s the same concept as a raid unique skin. Why should this logic apply to raid items but not other exclusive items?

I do, personally. I think Fractal skins and any other skin should definitely be achievable in any other part of the game. There is no real reason why they only have to be found in one spot. Having a skin or item as a reward exclusive to a certain area doesn’t mean anything other than you were in that area at some point. A Fractal reward track in PvP and WvW or any reward track, rather, is great way of making progress towards something without having to feel stuck in one tiny part of a vast world or in a game mode that isn’t to your liking.

Some of the earlier posts in this thread proposed reward tracks be implemented in modes outside of PvP and I completely support this. Playing through the Raid to completion once could unlock the reward track theme for that raid in PvE, PvP, and WvW. I think this is an excellent way to help out all game modes all at once.

I think something like this should be looked into after the Raids are implemented. Map and instance control has been suggested a few times in the CDI and that is something that everyone has longed for since release. Hopefully, they will give us map control so that we could create an instance of OS and kick trolls and griefers so that we could actually have a really grand time dueling or GvGing without interference.

I don’t get why there is people here suporting these ideas… After all, it was YOU PEOPLE that forced the uplevels, PvE’ers and K-trainers unto EotM by spilling hate on them at the regular WvW maps. If I had 1g for each time someone said “Go to EotM PvE scrub” or “WvW is no place for uplevels” I’d be the richest person in Tyria. It’s just laughable how you now want them back to the regular maps…

This is important, I think, for the community to remember. The absolute hatred and general negativity that WvW players had for up-lvls, k-trainers, etc… before EotM. I now, everyday, have to listen to those same people complain about how EotM took away their players. I truly feel for the Dev’s and i hope they don’t take anything written in the forums personally because it is impossible to satisfy people.

EotM, as it is, can sometimes be great for making some gold, gathering mats, wxp leveling, exp leveling, etc… I like that i have the option to jump into EotM to speed up progression a bit. As others have stated, it is a great training ground for players to learn WvW concepts like siege, general pvp, etc… It also gives PvE players a great chance to get familiar and comfortable with fighting other players which is extremely important for building up numbers in WvW. PvP in any game requires PvE converts. ‘’Convert now, or fall forever!’’ (had to do it) Using EotM to condition people to have more of a PvP mentality is good thing.
The problem, I think, is that when these people make the jump from PvE->EotM->WvW they immediately go back to one of the previous two modes because the rewards just aren’t there. You never get the feeling that you are making any progress in WvW even if your server is dominating in your tier. I think this is where i see most people jump out of WvW.

All that being said, I would not be opposed to say having EotM map placed into a map swap rotation for WvW to count towards PPT. It could replace EBG every other week or every few weeks or something just to shake things up. I think we can all use a little vacation time away from the paper/swiss cheese castle.

I think 3 months is a reasonable amount of time to achieve a top rank, achievement, or title. I WvW on a regular basis. Not 100% of the time but a fairly large amount of play time and I am only around 6k kills for Ultimate Dominator title. This is just one more item on the list that encourages people to zerg/blob and encourages people into EotM to achieve things quicker. Killing up-levels is much easier and its more of a wholesale slaughter. Ultimate Dominator is the only title in the game that i want to display. I refuse to display any other title. So EotM is where i have to go to speed things up. Even in EotM this title is still mostly out of reach.

The core is 100% there and there is a huge amount of opportunity here to make really unique forms of raiding.

I’m curious why it took you guys more than 2 years to realize this.

I can list some issues preventing the possibility of me taking GW2 pve seriously, specifically raids.

Defiant, spamming a bunch of rupts only to have someone passively trigger the 9000 defiant stacks again is probably the worst system I’ve ever seen when it comes to boss interrupts in MMO, no offense.

GW2’s particle effects. I have no idea how anyone is expected to melee one of the many bosses you can’t see attacking just to get instagibbed. Particle effects need to be addressed, it is a serious issue.

I concur. Particle effects need to be addressed unless all the bosses are going to be designed like WoW where they tell you what skill they are about to use with recorded speech.

Siege Disablers Ruined the Game

I assume the reasoning behind making it spammable is to force attackers to drop more siege when assaulting in order to help clear some siege from the trading post. I cant come up with a solid reason that makes sense other than that. That one doesn’t make much sense as it is.

Funny story, small group of us were assaulting a keep and what should’ve taken 5 mins was drawn out to about 40 minutes because of 1 defender. He could spam disablers on rams at gate. No problem, we will make catas further back. Nope. He can stealth out to catas and disable and immediately stealth back into keep and disable rams again. We could’ve made more siege weapons but at this point its just an annoyance and why bother? Same thing again on inner gate.

Could we have built trebs and made the long distance more of a pain for him to contend with? Sure. Treb is always the way to go. Could we have spread out siege out all over the map to keep at least one siege weapon going at all times? Yup. Mostly we just wanted to see how long one guy could keep this up while he had the supply to do so.

5 Minutes turned into 40 minutes. That’s 40 minutes of no rewards. No loot, no world exp, no fun fights, etc… Just a few of us staring at a gate wondering who thought siege disablers would be a good idea. #annoyed to no end

I think the disablers need a long cd like the Ash Legion Spy Kits.

About a month ago there was a thread on an endless dungeon.

The gist of it was there would be a procedurally generated dungeon for 1-5 players. The longer you played it the harder the mobs became and the better the loot got. There would be no access to banks, storage, repair stations, etc. Just you and what you bring with you. You play as long as you can, when you leave the dungeon resets.

Logistics would be a larger problem with 15+ people if you wanted to allow pauses/saves, but the core concept could remain the same. No mega boss, just regular mobs and lots of them, maybe some traps/puzzles/jumping to spice it up a bit, and let the players run a marathon.

Maybe something like a procedurally generated guild puzzle mission scaled for 15 people with some more mobs thrown in?

Would this answer any of the questions about raid/reward progression? Would it help solve the issue of staleness after repeated play throughs?

Zombie survival mode?:D Could be similar to Glints Baby Defense Elite Mission in GW1 except on the move? Could force a team to utilize choke points, corners, etc… to burn them down to prevent the numbers from swelling around them too greatly. The map spawns patterns randomly so that you can’t learn the layout so you could be unlucky at times and get caught in a long dead end. Chests could spawn at random locations but there would be no in-dungeon map, only the compass in the top right hand corner gives you a general direction to the nearest chest. Occasionally, a champ or legendary boss spawns that you have to fight while still contending with the increasing hordes of zombies.

Although, I wouldnt use zombies. I think after Zhaitan, we are all zombied out. Maybe a Branded theme or maybe the dungeon randomly spawns different themes based on the different Elder Dragons.

Dungeons/PVE/pugging

Depends on the fight. Knowing the fight will give you your rotation. This is coming from my Medi build which differs from yours, obv. It isn’t a build for speed clears, although it does a lot of dmg very quickly with lots of crit. Generally, if its multiple mobs that hit hard ill tele Sword 2 to the central most and Focus 5 then GS5 x2 then GS 3 for aoe blind then either GS 4 or 2 depending on what fields are already down. Back to Sword 3 for chain dmg(unless i know i need it to block projectiles at some point) and Sword 4 for more blind. My utility skills probably differ from yours as well but my utilities are all used on an as needed basis since they stun break>condi cleanse/convert>heal>dps :P

For single target like bosses it’ll be basically the same except ill leave the burning up from GS 5 and ill save my Focus 5 for as needed unless i know i wont need it and wont get hit in which case ill use it on cd for extra dmg.

However, my overall priority is keeping blind up as much as possible so i want to time my skills instead of just plugging away at a rotation mindlessly.

arcane isnt viable for d/d because the condi clear you can get from cantrips plus regen helps to sustain, and you need evasive arcana because of the earth blast finisher for extra might, and the heals from water.

I’m very new to ele, but I’m curious about your rune, sigil and trinket choices. What if you were to drop the runes of strength, as you will likely be getting tons of might from people around you. perhaps replacing them with runes of water (which are much cheaper). This would provide tons of tankiness and allow you to keep fighting longer. Then, all the toughness from your trinkets becomes unnecessary, meaning you could swap them out for celestial or something like that. Now, you’re dealing slightly less damage with each attack, but you’re alive for much longer and you have access to decent condition damage. Finally, you could drop the sigil of accuracy and get something like a sigil of force or bloodlust.
Thoughts? Again, I’m new to ele, but I feel like these changes might have positive results.

It depends on the role you wish to fill within your party/squad. Build around that role. If you want to support your party as much as possible (and might stacking on your part isn’t required) then you can go for travelers runes which will give you survivability/sustain + speed which will allow you to stay up longer and keep sharing auras and heals and condi removals. You could go for sigils that remove/xfer condi’s or strip boons or whatever based on what your party is lacking. You just need to figure out your group comp and work from there.

Marmatt is pretty much spot on. You need all the sustain you can get since you arent long range and most of the D/D skills put you or require you to be well within cleave damage zones.

Guard is in the same boat as Ele for me. I have a hard time finding them fun at all unless i play specific builds/wpns. Ele i can only play d/d. Guard i can only play medi. Everything else bores me on these classes. Moral of the story-> check out all the different builds and combos to see if any suit your play style. Don’t give up after just a few minutes/hours.

Meditation has two popular versions in WvW. One Offensive and one slightly more sustain. The offensive one i actually run around with in PvE and it works fine but like others said it doesn’t bring a whole lot to the party unless you count constantly blinding everything. For general soloing around PvE maps its amazing for killing tons of mobs quickly and for mobility. Dungeons would be the only place you may want to swap out to another build.

2- Many people wont like the requirements for roles to be filled. I don’t see how this can be avoided and not turn into dps/zerg playstyles, however.

That is just a part of challenging content across all games. Even in GW2 current raids, you need people to roll specific builds for certain things to make life easier for all. It is also the reason people want more raids in GW2. People like the idea of the logistics side of raiding like putting together group compositions and ensuring maximum buffs/debuffs coverage. If it is truly challenging then this will take place. It isn’t a risk, its a necessity for the people that want challenging content. The risk comes into play when Raid leaders realize they have no way of inspecting peoples builds to ensure they even have any traits equipped at all, let alone the proper ones.

I don’t mind either way because other MMO’s have burned me out completely on building raid parties and teaching/leading them.

Seems like a Guild Chest piece could be designed that has a cape as part of the skin. when worn it auto hides any back piece or weapon being worn. Similar to how sitting hides them. Also, the Fractal Capacitor has a few tiny capes on it already.

Or the moment SMC is captured an Elder Dragon lieutenant spawns and flies around all of the WvW maps (except EotM). It does some damage to keeps and towers of the 2 opposing servers but the enemy server that brings it down gets bonus boost to PPT for 3 turns.

Siege Disablers Ruined the Game

This is a tough subject to cover carefully. Previously, Defenders had little in the way of options. Sometimes use of defensive siege inside of nodes would be enough to ward off would be attackers and sometimes not. The fights would sometimes play for that node, for better or worse. I think now what siege disablers have done is they have drawn out some fights to span lengths of time that some cant even stick around long enough to finish. Some fights for keeps are lasting long enough that multiple people have logged in, tried to help where they could, and then logged out not being able to see either victory or defeat. Strategy and counter-strategy is what it all comes down to but all things being equal its just more of a stalemate and the fight(and node) will go to whoever has the most time slot coverage.

WvW and PvP are both End Game. You should definitely get into WvW. It is a ton of fun. There are a lot of different roles to fill in WvW. Scout, Sentry, Havoc, Zerg, Clean Up, Emergency Response, etc… If those don’t suit your fancy then you can try hooking up with a guild that participates in GvG. GvG is a lot of fun, both practicing for and competing in. Don’t shy away from WvW even if it makes you angry in the beginning. Get in and let loose. Learn from allies and enemy alike. Learn the layouts, placements, routes, etc… WvW is an entirely different game than GW2 PvE is. Just give it a few tries.

Fractals, I believe, is an excellent place to house Raids. This way the devs don’t have to bother with planning Raid locations on maps and it will help keep player population up in Lions Arch if Guild Halls are released. It is also an amazing way to deliver Lore to players.

The only ‘people’ who said to wait were the players themselves. ArenaNet has never given a timeline for when an ‘expansion’ would arrive. I fail to see where this “didn’t meet the expected timeline” comes from other than the people posting on the forums…especially the OP.

If there is evidence of ArenaNet stating there would be an ‘expansion’ within a certain time period (such as 2 years 25 days x amount of hours, or whatever), please do provide the link.

Arenanet said they would deliver xpac content through the living story. In over two years the living story has delivered about 1% what an xpac would deliver and about half as much as what other games deliver through normal updates. That is why people are saying time is up. They don’t have to give an exact deadline or an ETA. They said they would deliver through the LS and they did not.

1% of an expansion? Based on what Standard Model? There isn’t an industry standard. Anet can do whatever they want, when they want and that is what has made them great all these years. Giving into the demands of people who base their expectations of a product on what they have seen in other products isn’t healthy for a company that wants to stand apart from other companies.

No Raid should be more profitable than any other area of the game. One or two skins, maybe, whether they can be traded or not. If people want new challenging content then they should be happy with the challenge and the new content, otherwise, please don’t request it.

Any Raids put in game should not even have a chance at pulling people from other game modes for longer than a few weeks.

The competitive game play is what draws in large numbers of players and widespread attention. Adding in a few more NPC’s to kill does not. We all have to be considerate of and support Anet in keeping the competitive game play healthy for the sake of the whole game and community.

Can we have an E.T.A. on the GvG CDI?

I made a thread about allowing us to utilize the Crown Pavilion for GvG year round and it wasn’t a very popular thread. Maybe if someone smarter than I was able to put together a proposal on how using the Crown Pavilion for GvG, given that it has multiple arenas up top with a ring for spectators to watch from without interfering and lots of wide open space down below (already segmented into different terrain themes) is an excellent idea because it already exists in game so it doesn’t require much effort and will also satisfy a large portion of the community.

It already has a Queue system built into the instance for the arenas.
The main platform in the center could hold leader boards that just track the number of wins each team has. Every hour could be a mini tournament down below and the team with the most wins gets a prize or something. The upper ring could be a designated skirmish area until actual tournaments start and then they could be locked to tournament participants only.

I think with utilizing Crown Pavilion 90% of the work has already been completed. The tournaments and scoring can come later and be tweaked based on feedback from the community.

Every time i see someone with a unique weapon or legendary i vow to make one. Then… i remember how utterly painful and annoying it is to do so. So…. i don’t.

The only skin i have wanted more than anything else since launch is Infinite Light and i have been saving every single Charge core/lodestone I have ever picked up and i still haven’t broken 100 lodestones yet (0.o)

To fully let out this confession i must admit that in the time, since launch, i have wanted both legendary weapons and Infinite Light i have somehow managed to make the shiny full version of the fractal capacitor, mawdry final version, 2 complete sets of ascended gear, etc…

So i guess my confession is actually that i am a bit rere.

Most of the posts have covered much needed items such as Raid tools group/instance control. My personal favorite suggestion was a Reward Track similar to that of the PvP Reward Tracks. I would also love to see a Reward Track for WvW as well.

Proposal Overview

A raid similar to the Urban Battlegrounds (Ascalon Fractal). An instance in which the 10-20(15 preferably) player group should move through a battle field (and then afterwards possibly a fortress) to certain objectives. The same map should be a new WvW map. A small portion of this map should also be usable as a new PvP map.

Goal of Proposal

The goal is to give a fun and rewarding Raid experience while at the same time familiarizing players with aspects of other game modes. Also, to simplify and streamline the work flow for the Devs.

Proposal Functionality

PvE
-The entire Raid instance should not function as an escort. NPC’s should remain at the start of the instance other than any NPC’s that may be about on the battlefield fighting to add to immersion. At the beginning the group should choose between 1 of 3 NPC’s to escort (similar to choosing between one of the three orders). Your choice should be between offensive, defensive and stealth. It could be that Stealth is the easier of the paths while Offensive is the harder allowing for an option of easy mode versus hard mode. Or it could be that the stealthier option is a five player portion while the defensive and offensive options are for 10-20 players. The option should just be there to allow for one Raid instance to be played through in different fashions.
-The Raid can feature events like Capturing and Decapturing nodes, King of the Hill, and maybe a little bit of Capture the Flag(CTF). Assaulting and Defending different sites and after a certain amount of progress has been made the group encounters a Boss. For Defensive positions the boss would either lead or follow some enemy forces in different circumstances. Some of the events should require the group to split into smaller teams to handle multiple objectives simultaneously.
-Siege should be an option for players to use and also a force to contend with during certain fights.
WvW
-This map should be identical, for the most part, to the PvE Raid map.
PvP
A much smaller portion of the map could be used as a PvP battleground.

Associated Risks

-If the Raid is made too much like Urban Battlefield then it will seem like recycling. The Raid instance needs to have a drastically different theme and style in order to separate itself from fractal instance.
-The usage of the same map for all three game modes could be seen as recycled content. I doubt this since PvP and WvW players would love it regardless just to have a new map to play on.

Even if the same maps are not used for all three game modes, perhaps the theme could be shared amongst them to get the most out of models, architecture, terrain, etc…
This could help in streamlining package roll-outs for new content.

Been playing since Beta and still love this game. For a free game, Anet went way past what anyone expected them to do and still continue to do so. they continue to work with the community right here on these forums. I have said this before, the jumping puzzles, alone, were worth the one time fee for GW2.

How to make WvW exciting again?

It depends on what server you are on. That makes a world of difference. T2 has a lot of good small fights. SoS, FA, and YB all have really good fighters and its been a great deal of fun these past few weeks.

Also, it depends on what kind of class you are rolling. Players have their preferences on who they like to fight. I, for example, ignore thieves and mesmers when I can because a lot of them just stealth infinitely and it gets old. It isn’t fun so why bother. Every other class, for the most part, can be very fun to fight.

As Reverence said above, Commanding opens you up to a whole new perspective of game play. Commanding is like playing a different game, entirely.

Most importantly, find, make and play with friends.

Synthesis Track: As I mentioned in the last bit a good long term goal for raiding would be a Synthesis Track. A hybrid system of the current PvP track reward system and the Mystic Forge, this system will give raiders a long term goal that can evolve as the game does. Using materials that can be obtained from all aspects of the game the player will be able to spend “Raid Experience” to synthesize these materials into new items giving access to difficult to obtain items that span the entire game (i.e precursors, exotic/ascended runes, ascended armor/weapons)

This is something I think should be implemented across all three game modes. PvE Raids, WvW, and obviously PvP already has it.

WvW forum gets tons of views. You would have gotten a ton of answers much faster for your topic.

Better questions are when you fight in WvW, which classes do you like to fight against most and why? Which ones seem to you like the most fun to play and why? Then play both to the best of your ability and determine for yourself which one feels more natural. I can say that I have played both thief and ele. D/D Ele to me is far and away more fun for me. In other games I enjoyed stealth but in GW2, for some reason, I really like for my opponents to know where I am. Stealth can be a lot of fun to play around with but after a while, for me personally, it becomes boring and disengaging.
