Buying more than 8000 gems discount?

Have fun with your legendary. I hope you feel like you’ve accomplished something when you swipe your credit card and pick it up from tp.

This is everything that’s wrong with legendaries.

This is why I think its a terrible system. These days I don’t even think about how hard that player may have worked for it, instead I think they either farmed gold for a long time or paid a ton of money for gems, like I’ve seen countless people do over the last few months. Obviously, I know many people worked hard for it, but to think that someone could just run a Queensdale champ train for 4 hours a day for a month or two and then just buy a legendary speaks volumes about how the system doesn’t quite work.

The pre-cursors never should have been so luck based to get, neither them nor the Legendaries should ever be sellable and should be account bound on acquire and give players a few more options to try and get that pre-cursor and I would totally love the idea of a legendary.

As it stands now, I’d rather just dual wield my firey dragon sword and Jormag’s breath because I don’t even really care for the skins enough to put in that much mindless work, which is a real shame because the idea of a legendary weapon was fun at one time.

No to PRECURSOR CRAFTING! this will be a stupid idea….

Why is that? In all honesty, its one of the only things I think they could do that would make it seem like Legendary’s are an actual achievement rather than a mark that you either have enough money in real life to just buy one or you made a ton of gold in the game to buy one. (Obviously this is about perception and won’t actually change how someone did or didn’t get one).

It would make perfect sense to make pre-cursors require gifts you get from doing some of the other aspects of GW2 that are largely ignored by most people. If Keg Brawls or Belcher’s Bluff had really tough achievements that eventually lead to a gift that you could make a pre-cursor with, you’d hear a lot more people trying to doing those things rather than just Champ farming or dungeon speed runs.

I actually think the idea of the pre-cursor only being dropped at an absolutely insanely low rate that most players never see one in 1000+ hours or being purchased at a store is one of the worst ideas in the history of gaming.

Looking at it from a wide perspective, this is one of the few games where the absolute “best”, leetist, coolest, most unique items is easier to buy from a shop than to actually earn through chests, killing bosses, achieving something hard or completing some insanely hard jumping puzzle or something. That is incredibly lame, for lack of a better term.

Basically, no matter how hard that dungeon boss you just beat may have been, chances are he’ll never give you anything better than something you might get mindlessly fighting a champion in a level 5 beginner area.

I get that the system is likely not changing and some people are fine with it, but its why me and my friends who do play, as well as my gf, don’t really see Legendary weapons as even being all that legendary. They look like shiny trinkets from some guy who bought $500 worth of gems or someone who played for 2,000 hours which translates to over 80 actual real life days (not trying to insult players who play a LOT, but when you step back the idea of spending over 2 full months of playing time is quite a thing lol). I never think “Wow, that guy must be great at this game!” like I do when i see people with crazy equipment or armor or stats in other games.

Obviously, you don’t “need” a legendary weapon, but they’re so luck based to get that I find myself not even considering them as an achievement unlike when I finish a Dungeon explorable path for the first time or one of the more challenging jumping puzzles. And thats a shame, because when I first think of the idea of a Legendary weapon being crafted over a long period of time to show everyone how hard you worked for it, its so disappointing to realize thats not the case.

Honestly, i think pre-cursors should all be able to be crafted using “Gifts of” that involve things that are largely forgotten. make it to where each pre-cursor has 4 gifts that can only be acquired much like the gifts are now, but with things like the Keg Brawl or Jumping Puzzles and reward players who get all these achievements either with the gift or give them chests after winning that gives them pieces so they can craft the gift.

At least if pre-cursors were done that way I’d feel like I accomplishes something pretty cool to get a legendary and not just farmed gold mindless for way too many hours while I should have been enjoying the game.

All of this being said, Anet themselves are treating Dynamic Events like a thing of the past, hence why they’re never updated or fixed anymore outside of LS. Sure, Dynamic Events were interesting and a nice innovative thing, but considering they’re being abandoned already, that sort of has to mean something. I personally think it means that regardless of how neat or new the idea is, some people don’t like the fact that if the map hasn’t done a particular event, you might not be able to reach certain content alone.

I think GW2 is innovative in its gameplay, wanting to give players more control over the fight, which is the highlight of the game to me. Most of everything else they have done in the game, outside of trying to eliminate the trinity, doesn’t really seem like its all that unique.

So why exactly are players just supposed to enjoy the “streamlining(dumbing down)” of a game for newer players, when it limits our options of gameplay? Because it’ll become easier to “balance” in the future?

Thats basically saying that we should expect you guys to not be able to do a good job balancing the game unless its easy.

Also, I have played GW2 with many casual gamers and people who are new to MMO’s, and the idea that this will help them seems odd to me. Just dumbing down stat options isn’t really going to do much with their understanding of the game mechanics and what skills to use. Every single player I’ve played with who was new to the game always spent much more time learning about which weapon to try and which traits and skills to use than equipment. Limiting jewels or whatever trinket thing you want to come up with is only really going to effect experienced players and thats a slap in the face to this community.

The difference this will make to new players is minuscule, but the effect it might have to players of hybrid builds is likely greater.

I like the effort Anet has put into this big patch release, but it really has totally missed the boat on many of its intended fixes. After this patch, there will simply be a lot less build diversity and honestly, thats a big hit. I certainly hope dumbing down the game to make new players in China happier will be worth giving some long time players a bit of a slap.

I’m so glad that gamers want to decide how we all play the game.

Reminds me of the government decided what we should or shouldn’t do in our daily life.

If a lot of people want full zerkers, then clearly Anet should make it so that full zerkers aren’t asked for as much because it isn’t “fair”. Thats how this all comes off. Its only fitting that it still doesn’t hurt the zerkers that much, but it will still slow down all runs and lower dps.

I really don’t like the idea of the nerf, and it kind of bothers me that a lot of it is due to people complaining about things that don’t really effect them. But thats how I felt most of the time playing GW1, with constant nerfing back and forth because group A whines about the first nerf and then group B whines later on.

Your post makes no sense. First off, it’s not the players that are changing the rules, it’s Anet. Second no one is saying you can’t continue to be a zerker anymore, go ahead and continue to be one if you’d like, no is stopping you. Anet is making the change because currently not enough people are being allowed to play the way they want. You said it’s important to you that people be able to play the way the want, so you should be supportive of this change.

Currently many people are blocked from group play because they don’t like to be forced to play zerker. Other people have begrudging compromised their playstyle because zerker is just too over powered.

I’m pretty sure that if zerker was under strength, you wouldn’t play it. So you can’t really claim your playing the way you want, because the only way you seem to want to play is whatever is OP. I’m sure that in another month you’ll adapt fine to what ever the new OP strategy. Those that wish to continue to play zerker, will continue to play zerker. those that ant to play differently, may finally have the opportunity to do so without be excluded from groups.

You really should be behind this change if you truly support playing the way you want.

First of all, I don’t even play zerker most of the time outside of my Warrior, and I don’t use it because its OP. Secondly, I just find it irritating that Anet is making changes based on “community feedback” involving people complaining that too many people are doing x,y, z, even though it really doesn’t effect them in the least bit.

I have never been excluded from a group when I’m playing and I’ve hardly had that many bad experiences with lfg, although I usually play with the same 3 or 4 guildies and then just look for an extra player in dungeons. I think its a terrible idea to make changes that are almost solely based on people not wanting so-and-so using a certain build.

I like playing aggressive characters when I can, so a hit-and-run style involving max dps and mobility is fun for me.

So why is it that this nerf was needed in the first place? I still haven’t heard any good solid reasoning as to why the fact that a lot of people preferred utilizing crit damage in their builds warranted a nerf that would try and make some people use something else, despite them already using what they want to use.

All this does is strike me as something made to make people do something they may not want to do, which is the opposite of what a game should be.

I could totally see them introducing something in PvP or WvW to keep it balanced (its still totally unneeded since crit damage in those arenas aren’t nearly as OP as they are in PvE where it shouldn’t matter anyways), but this just seems totally pointless unless they’re planning on eventually added more vertical progression in the game via new weapons and armor.

I really think that those who are willing to spend some time actually farming have no problem making gold. If I have “x” number of hours to play and do only the “fun” stuff, I would probably be broke too (or at least feel like it). You have to be willing to farm something pretty hard to get rewarded in this game. Seems like that is the way of MMOs in general, though I have only played this one.

My son refuses to farm. He played the game; he did the events and hearts and personal story. He had no toons at level 80. He had no appreciable in-game cash. He gave up on the game because he never had anything good or “cool”. See the connection?

Which is why I agree with the OP. This is very similar to how my gf feels. She loves the game though and still wants to play, but she loses enthusiasm when she sees how much time and effort the game wants her to put in it to do some of the things she wants to do.

Even at 4 hours a day, thats 25% of your waking life every day. I personally have a hard time believing any game is worth that much of my time every single day. Obviously there are good ways to farm in the game, but I think there should also be more money sinks for very wealthy players so that the prices on materials and certain in game items don’t continue to sky rocket. Just look at screenshots of the TP from the earlier months of GW2. most items have had 300-500% increases in price, yet its still not necessarily 3-5 times easier to make gold.

Having said that, I realize things like legendary items shouldn’t be easy to get, so thats not my real issue. Mine is just how inflated prices have gotten on nearly any item that is even somewhat unique outside of a few exotic weaponskins that are between 1-10 gold on the tp.

I really don’t like people dictating how I should play harder content in the game.

You can say they’re not REALLY telling us what we should or shouldn’t do, but when you go out of your way to make sure that what someone is doing in a tough dungeon becomes even harder to do, then that is trying to prevent them from doing that.

Everything Anet is doing in the new round of updates flies into the face of the idea that they want us to have more “build diversity”.

I agree with the OP. Playing about 15-20 hours a week, I usually do not come close to getting enough gold for anything fancy or really max out many of the crafting disciplines.

my gf plays a little less than me and usually doesn’t get any good drops and struggles to make gold. Obviously I understand why it happens, but I do agree its hard to keep up with the rising prices on many things if you don’t save every penny and focus on trying to make money.

How about people learn to find friends in the game to play with who have similar styles or learn to advertise what they want in the group descriptions before playing?

seriously its so lazy to complain about things like this when it could easily be fixable by just having people you know to play with or making sure when you join or start a group, you let it be known what you want and what kind of players you want to play with.

I can’t understand people’s obsession with meta’s and what other people are running.

April Patch - Nerfing Numbers is Bad

“Power creep” is one of the things that happens when people say “don’t nerf – raise everything else up.” To actually raise everything you have to go back and rescale the enemies to so at the end of the day you get the same gameplay but with bigger numbers… at which point you could have achieved the same thing with a hundredth the effort and less quirky oops/outliers by nerfing the intended target in the first place.

Look at the patch as a whole. Tons of new healing traits/gear. A direct reduction of power-based damage that scales with how deep you were banging all three stats that affect power based damage (because, lets be honest, you don’t start stacking crit damage until after you’re happy with your base power and crit chance…).

GW2’s soft roles of damage, support and control have FAILED in the current environment. And we all know the failure rests chiefly on bad AI/content design. But they are bound and determined to keep trying to whack away at the over prevalent Damage role and try to boost healing to a point where someone — anyone — thinks Support is a relevant job.

Yeah I get what power creep is, but the only thing that has really increased anything has been ascended armor. since launch, what have they really buffed to the point where power creep even came into question? I could be wrong, but there hasn’t been anything close to a power creep in my eyes. Yes a lot of people are using zerker builds and doing well in dungeons, but that isn’t due to power creep.

This just seems like something that wasn’t really needed tbh. I mean what is the point of this? making it longer and harder to do dungeons or world events? Reducing dps doesn’t really seem needed.

no one is really saying raise everything, or at least I never did. If they thought players were having to easy a time with current content, just add harder content that punishes players for not having a diverse team or something.

Reducing the power of gear people spent real time and money to build is something Blizzard understood very well to NEVER do again. Early through their first expansion they decided to “nerf” epic crafted sets that millions of people invested money and time to build. The community uproar was so massive, it prompted them to reverse their decision very quickly.

I’m curious to see how the Guild Wars 2 community will absorb this one.

I think its a huge mistake and I hope that they rethink the changes.

For one, I always thought it was incredibly stupid to nerf something solely because there are too many people doing it. Who cares? If everyone used zerker armor, it wouldn’t effect me one bit in PvE. Make some changes to balance PvP or WvW if need be, but leave dungeons/PvE alone. Its the player base being needy and lazy that has caused problems.

Don’t like that everyone runs a zerker build? Play with people who don’t use one.

Power creep in a game with already trivial difficulty is worse.

I really don’t care about power creep personally, since that term has always came off to me as insecure gamers who want to keep their shiny trophies that prove they’re better than new players or lesser skilled ones.

The whole idea of killing “power creep”, basically insures that average skilled players will always be in an endless wheel to try and be good in my opinion. So I personally never really care about power creep, especially because they could always just make changes that only effect PvP and WvW .

I think all the issues people have of the game could be remedied in much different ways. I think nerfing crit damage doesn’t really address any real problems, but thats just me.

What if you like to be a support role or healer in rpg’s/mmo’s? Same thing with a tank. I use to enjoy playing as a tank in many games, drawing aggro so my gf or friends (who were normally much less experienced at the game and at a much lower level of skill ) could do most of what they wanted to do. I think instead of focusing on removing the trinity as a whole, they should have just tried to reduce the reliance on it and increased the effectiveness of different roles. Stealth roles, conditions, group buffs etc. could have become more effective in taking down end game content and thus increased the number of roles a player could choose to focus on.

I still have fun with GW2 dungeons, but my friends who don’t quite play as often get frustrated rather easily because the game isn’t quite forgiving to people who aren’t quite skilled at dodging or getting max dps.

I never quite understood the hate at the trinity itself, when its moreso balance issues in particular games that cause people to flock to those roles as being the real thing people should be angry at. But I guess allowing every class to have their own versions of tank/support/dps/stealth would be boring. Idk.

Personally, I think all costume sets should be 2 dollars or lower. I’m not spending 10 dollars in a virtual game just to look cool.

Considering I got this game, which comes with amazing content built in, for 60 dollars, I am hesitant to buy a costume, that does nothing but make me look better, for 10 dollars. I just bought Borderlands 2 for 10 dollars. A single costume is not worth 10 dollars. In any universe.

I bought Torchlight 2 for the same price of approx. 800 gems. I’ve gotten 211 hours of fun from TL2 so far. When I thought about that compared to buying a one time use skin or gambling for one it really put things into perspective and ended my gem purchases for good.

Like others have said though there is nothing unreasonable with the prices as long as there are mugs willing to pay it.

I agree. I think the price of the items in the Gem Store are about right but I think the amount of gems you get for $10 is ridiculous. There is no way that any of these items are worth as much real life money as they’re asking. $10 to play as a new character or a fancy new costume? Thats way too much. For the price of GW2, you’d only get enough gems to buy 1 infinite use tool, 2 character slots and a single armor set for one character…

I would like to support Anet and GW2 buy occasionally buying things from the Gemstore, but its hard to convince myself that its worth it when you get so little for real world money. You should easily get 1000-2000 gems for $10.

The funny thing is they actually designed the event to be non-zerg friendly this time around. To actually achieve the 1500 civilians, you want teams of 5-10 all over the map (with the 10s attacking large events like miasma). It’s easier to complete the large events, and you absolutely need to grab every single non-event civilian as they respawn to get to 1500.

Unfortunately, the loot distribution is suffering from Scarlet invasion syndrome; You get more loot from the kills rather than completion. Therefore, no one will try to do the event to succeed just like the invasions.

This. Anet didn’t try to reward zerging at all.

If people want to see zerging go away or get reduced, then they need to communicate more with the players around them instead of just sitting at the screen and complaining to themselves. Zergs are always going to happen in some form because in big events that involve many players who likely never check forums or wikis, they’ll flock to the action.

If you at least communicate all the time to players, you can give them direction.

I loved it too.

And I enjoy the fact that it actually rewards players to split up and do their own thing in smaller groups to help boost the loot that everyone gets.

It actually punishes zergs, even though people just want to complain about how they see them.

If you don’t like that people are zerging at the time you’re playing, speak up in chat and try and coordinate smaller groups. Most people who zerg in it are people who probably aren’t even sure what to do to get the rewards in the first place. If all players see in the chat are people talking about moa’s and miasma events, most players won’t go looking for much else.

If you want a game just like GW1, then go play GW1.

This issue reminds me of how people originally hated Final Fantasy 8, 9 and 10 because people were still reminiscing about 6 and 7.

GW1 was a fun game, but some of it is still there in GW2. They still might open the Crystal Desert in the future, they still might open certain areas from GW1, or stories from it. Its not like Lion’s Arch was actually the only thing that tied the two together.

Besides, I’m glad they’ve made the changes they have. My gf could never really get into GW1 too much because it was much harder and took some hardcore effort to do much of the bonus content. It also bred a community of really elitist people, to the point where PvP was ruined for me because of all the “hardcore” people who dwelled there. As someone else said earlier, it was becoming a bit of a toxic community that drove off new players.

I like that GW2 is newbie friendly. More of my actual real life friends are willing to play it now.

No offense, but if you’re sick of “zergs” then actually do something about it by organizing a small group of 3-5 people and go on your own. You can still do a majority of content in the entire game with a few partners and have no really hard time, aside from moments where you’ll have to join a larger group to take down bosses.

Its not like we don’t have a choice in the matter in how we play. Don’t like a mindless zerg? speak up in chat with a few other players and try and organize a smaller group that hits events and spots where the zergs are not.

Saying you hate zergs and the game is being lazy is just as much of a lazy issue as the zergs themselves. Reminds me of people that lose in PvP and then want a certain class nerfed because they’re mad they lost.

I understand that not everyone is going to like every update, but I thought it was incredibly fun and interesting to see an entire playable city, get turned into something else. It shows that they’re invested in changing what we play. Me and my gf have loved it so far.
