The reward system in general is terrible. Its always appeared to me at least, that they’re just driving players into purchasing gems or using real money to try and get what they want. Maybe less with fractals, but in general thats what it seems like to me. I haven’t really talked with anyone in the game or friends who play that actually like the loot system.

I will never understand why exotic weapons have such horrible drop rates. I haven’t had any friend play this game and not complain that the loot you get is basically worthless and there isn’t really much of a point to try and do any particular content. The rewards are just gold for everything you do.

Honestly, they need to expand the stats available to all exotics so that each exotic could be berserkers or rampager etc. etc., and increase the drop rate. I don’t foresee there being any changes on it though. It seems like they prefer the gemstore method over in game rewards.

I’m not exactly sure the idea of a “flash sale” in a video game involving in game items really increases demand. Nearly everyone involved in this topic and people that are referenced are players that either already bought the wings or planned on buying them. The idea of a “flash sale” would be to create artificial demand and make people who otherwise wouldn’t buy it suddenly decided to throw down the gold.

In all honesty, there isn’t any real data that all the players wearing wings weren’t going to buy it regardless, and theres no proof that the 24 hour only period will suddenly make people who missed out on it decide they want to buy it next time. I mean, most of the people who have bought it now and will buy it when it comes back are people who were going to regardless if it were limited time only or sold permanently.

I understand the idea of flash sales in real life because items that hold value like that can also be resold for profit or collected to be sold in the future (or just to have). But in a video game? I’m not so sure really.

It could easily have been just as effective to market the wings by showing it off for awhile in teasers or promo pics and then sell it at a small discount (like 10%) for a limited time before making it permanent (sell it for 500 gems for 24 hours then sell it for 600-800 afterwards). Then you also don’t alienate any part of the fanbase.

Just my two cents. I think it was kind of a dumb move.

Okay, you paid 10 bucks for the game but can’t afford 20 bucks for the LS2 episodes (well more like 17.5 bucks since you logged in for episode 8 ) ?

C’mon, they have to make some money somewhere. All other games still have expansions AND a subscription fee. Would you prefer pay $15 per month to play or get some OPTIONAL content for an OPTIONAL $20 (since they can be bought with in-game gold).

This is still cheaper than their $40 full price that you would have paid.

Go troll somewhere else because it’s clear you don’t like this game if you don’t stay updated.

I stopped playing for 6 months, but still kept up-to-date and logged in to get most episodes (missed one, but bought it no problems).

If you find that too expensive, you clearly haven’t played ANY other MMO. Even F2P MMO are more expensive than B2P… I know it. GW2 is the cheapest and best MMO I have ever played, even if they charge for DLC (you can see LS2 as an optional DLC), and I did try quite a few of them.

First of all, not everyone has a lot of disposable income every month. When you have bills, car upkeep etc. sometimes you find that you don’t even really have 20 bucks at the end of the month that isn’t going to go to one bill or another, so please refrain from assuming anyone can just pull 20 bucks out of nowhere and not possibly need it somewhere else.

Also, just because a game may be “cheaper than other MMOs” doesn’t mean they decided they needed to spend that kind of money. You pay for a game that you can afford and some people may feel ripped off that they can’t play the whole thing. Not everyone is use to today’s gamer’s mentality where they don’t mind having a bunch of content thats not originally available when you actually pay for the game.

I personally was able to get all the content unlocked but I think it would be arrogant of me to just assume its easy for everyone to do it. There are a lot of things that came up when Season 1 was going on and i missed most of it. Even with the current system, i would have had to pay for most of it anyways, so I can understand how someone could miss out.

Whether you agree with charging for missed episodes or not, everyone should really not comment on the difficulty of actually being there during the release window.

I dislike paying for season 2

So I take it most people never considered it an option that Anet could have just released the Living Story season 2 updates as permanent content that is always unlocked when you log in, no matter when you do log in?

Not sure I get why some people really feel like the Living Story needed to be “be there to get it free or pay for it if you miss it” when they always could have just made it an actual free update.

Real life can sometimes throw curveballs such as having to go out of state for a couple weeks/month with no real access to an online video game, so I can definitely understand how easy it could be to miss out on updates. Its not a big price to pay for them, but it still seems unnecessary to me to make them gated behind gems if you weren’t there during the window. Its not like its just costumes/skins etc. its story and lore that will lead to the next game.

Basically think of specializations like going into underwater combat. Switching to a Druid as a Ranger will likely lock out some options and open up others. Probably the easiest way to imagine how the new system will work.

Then when you want to go back to being a base class, you’ll switch back out to a Ranger and get back your old options, just like coming back on land.

Underwater Content: Ever gonna expand it?

I certainly would enjoy more underwater content, including an underwater map and dungeon there, maybe a World Boss that is underwater.

As for flying, thats a totally separate topic, although I see no reason why if they wanted to do it, they could just make it map specific for one single map that is built for it where you get some sort of item that allows you to partake in it in that map and only that map. Could be a possible fun mini-game but that would be a lot of work and I think its safe to say we will never see it.

Expansion Thread [merged]

First of all, I do believe they are working on an expansion or at least what is essentially an expansion. Now, whether they choose to release it like a regular expansion pack or they choose to market it as “something different” (which to me makes the most sense looking at their track record of trying to separate themselves from competitors) I am not sure. But I would be willing to bet that sometime in 2015, there will be major additions or they will release teasers about the upcoming additions.

Secondly, It baffles me how many people I read say that expansions won’t work and will just be played in a month and people will be “bored”. Did Factions or Nightfall really only add 1 month of playtime for people? of course not. Thats such a really poor argument that I can’t even fathom the people who are making them. If Anet release an actual expansion in the vein of Factions or Night Fall or even Eye of the North, you can bet it would add months and months of play.

Naturally it won’t make everyone happy, but if there were 10-20 new maps, 50+ new weapon skills, a couple new weapons in general as well as increasing the number of weapons available to a class, more dungeons and possibly upgrading WvW or adding GvG would add another year or two of play since thats completely changing the way players can choose to play the game. And thats not even bringing up new classes or races.

New weapons and skills = much more players getting back into PvP, and if its accompanied by more modes and maps and rewards to PvP, you’ll definitely give pvpers reasons to play.

Just saying that I doubt GW2 will go through most of its prime without actually attempting to add significant things.

After almost nine years as an active GW player, I’m afraid it’s goodbye from me. The megaserver update is what really done it for me this time, and certainly not the only reason to leave this game.

Other reasons:
• The lack of content
• The lack of rewarding content
• The lack of permanent content
• The lack of dev interaction
• Ridiculous amounts of RNG+Gold sinks
• Diminishing returns/Magic Find
• A complete zerg grind fest
• Ascended gear
• A game designed for ex-WoW players
• Lackluster major patches/updates
• Living story is rushed, poorly written, and a waste of dev time
• 2 years on and no official expansion (not even announced)
• Frequent gem store cash grabs
• Unbalanced classes

The future is not bright. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for this game. It’s been spiraling downward since day one. There’s really no heart and soul put into this game, like there had been in GW1, instead of being a niche game it’s tried it’s absolute hardest to appeal to every type of MMO player, and that’s what has failed this game. No guild halls, no GvG, no title hunting, no teamplay. Just what game did I pay for 2 years ago? Guild Wars or GenericMMO#8234?

I’ve literally forced myself to like this game, and gave it a chance to bring back the Guild Wars feel with enjoyable updates, but I think 2 years has been enough and I regret not leaving this game far, far sooner.

Man this post is right on. I can’t believe how many wrong turns this game taken since launch. It should be so much more than it is at this point. It’s been so mismanaged that it’s unreal. Even just their lack of presence on the boards since the last patch is a major indictment of how they’re handling the game.

I’m very, very cautiously optimistic that they’re slowly weeding out what obviously doesn’t work and year 2 will end up being at least somewhat better than year 1, but I wouldn’t go so far as to bet on it.

Several of those points are crazy. Gem store “cash grabs” are how we play a subscription-quality MMO without a subscription. You never have to spend a dime. It’s like complaining about taxes while living on disability or something. So silly.

Living story was rushed at the beginning, yes, but it improved substantially as time went on. And the entire game has moments of poor writing – by and large the Living Story was solid. Especially at the end as the characters from various arcs came together, it was really impressive. It worked far better than goram mary sue Trahearne, at least.

TO THE WHOLE THREAD: ANet has said repeatedly that there’s no reason they can’t work on Living Story AND Expansion content. They haven’t announced anything because they don’t want to distract from Season 2 of the Living Story. Assuming we don’t spend four months on a month’s worth of content again (Flame and Frost, we remember you), Season 2 will wrap up in about a year, and we’ll likely have an expansion 4-6 months after. That’s right on par for an MMO’s first xpac – WoW took three years, Rift took two, and TOR took a year and a half.

And it’s worth considering that we’ve had at least an expansion’s worth of game improvements and features since launch.

Well for one, 3 and a half years (which is the time frame you gave) would be an oddly long time to release an expansion for a current MMO, let alone most MMO’s that have been released in the last 15 years or so (and even then, 3 years was usually the ceiling for the time to wait on an expansion). I’m not sure a lot of players would be happy to see an expansion pushed to year 3 or 4 of GW2, when its year 2 and people are already clammoring for it harder than I have seen it.

Besides that, Anet hasn’t really said a single thing about an actual expansion at all, so for all we know, they may not really be planning one for the forseeable future. Yes, it would make sense to, but they could easily just be planning season 2 of LS and the China release and push an expansion to the back burner until 2015 rolls around and they can focus on starting it.

I’m just a bit skeptical. I would love to see an expansion even as soon as late 2014, which I know won’t happen, but it would be nice. As fun as the game has been, there just seems to be gaps in content.

LS was a series of Temporary Events. Nothing new to the Genre, only the scale.

EQ2 has had world storyline events for years. Miss the event, miss the unique items and content, same as here.

Difference is.. those Storyline Events are not a replacement for new expansion content. They are in addition to expansion content.

Honestly, having some of both kinds of “content” would be the best. And isn’t gonna happen. It’s not “Innovative”.

I would much prefer both, but I just don’t the the dev team is big enough or capable of working on monthly story events as well as yearly expansions. If they are, then that would be the best way to fix most issues players have with content. I wouldn’t necessarily even care if the Living Story only popped up every couple of months in that case.

My main problem with GW2 is the lack of content.

It’s been a year and a half since release and we’re essentially playing the exact same game.

Does LS not count as content? Sure it’s only temporary, however I found that the LS updates every 2 weeks seemed like more content overall, compared with any other mmos. Also what about Teqautl, Triple Wurm, EOTM, and pvp revamp? Pretty sure these are fairly large bits of content added, on top of LS.

Can you play them now? Can a new player play them? Is it a selling point to get a friend of yours to play it now?

Since the answer is no, I wouldn’t count LS as content that counts, really. Which is why a lot of players were against the idea of a LS in the first place because it is a lot of time and effort from the devs for something that players cannot play in the future, which is a waste.

Compared to other MMO’s, it isn’t that great because at least with expansion packs, the 30 bucks still get you more new zones than every LS update, but usually with a lot of other things attached to it.

Not a fan of LS at all. Sure it can be a fun way to break the mundane every few weeks, but their time would have been better spent giving us new zones, skins and possibly dungeons every few months. Imagine if, in the current state of the game, instead of the Lion’s Arch destruction and Scarlett angle, they just had 4 or 5 new explorable zones, a new dungeon and loads of new rare skins?

You wouldn’t just have those available to play, but then you’d have the excitement of wondering what their next new update would be that you can explore for the next few months, instead of a LS that may only give you something new for 2 weeks.

I can play the new fractals now. I can do the new jumping puzzles now. I can play the new path of TA now. I can play the redesigned AC now. I can play the new Tequatl and Wurm now (though only at certain times). I can certainly play Edge of the Mists now. I can play the new PvP maps now. I can go to Southsun Island, and do the Karka Queen now.

For a game without an expansion we’ve had decent content updates, but the whole idea of this feature pack is laying the ground to make the core game better, so they can make real updates.

I’m 100% sure we’re getting at least one (and probably more) new zones in season two. The only thing holding it up is the Chinese release.

And I would counter the idea of only one or two zones after another year would mean that in 3 years GW2 would have added:

Fractals of the mists, a few jumping puzzles, 3 zones (southsun and the new ones that will be added), one new dungeon path in Twilight Arbor, Ascended armor and a few skins that were gem store only?

Obviously there could be much more in store than just a zone or two, but it just shows that after 2-3 years, an MMO should really be adding some substantial things so that gamers aren’t still doing the same things they’ve been playing for more than a few years. At least thats my view. After year 1, I’m understanding. After year 2, I’m a bit disappointed but I at least could hope they’ll change course. If after year 3, its more of the same but with just a few more zones, then I’d have to find something else to spend my time on.

It would be nice if instead of constant LS updates that get washed after weeks, they’d wait and do it every 3-4 months and release a couple of zones, skins and a dungeon that are all permanent.

It doesn’t really count, because if you miss it, it’s pretty much gone without a trace. Completely unlike other MMOs, where much of the older content will still be accessible AND worth doing!

As I missed maybe 70% of the LS, that had zero value to me. Teq and Wurm are only for the serious elite/hardcore (by Anet design!), EotM is irrelevant unless you WvW, PvP unless you PvP (and they REMOVED content rather than adding it!). All the awesome new weapon and armor art are strictly only for pay. So yeah that’s pretty close to zero, sadly.

It doesn’t have to be that way. The LS could leave permanent changes, improvements, and additions. So far it has only left permanent harm – i.e. destroying LA and leaving us with a less-functional version in Gendarran (with full functionality paywalled for important paying people, of course, which is pretty pathetic. You could argue that in some ways GW2 has LESS content now than it did a year ago!

It just gave us new things and players apparently CAN’T accept anything new.
I would ask you in advance to save us from a wall of text becasue it is usually to try to argument about this specific points, it is a fact by this point: MMORPG players don’t like change, something proven from a philosophy standpoint, humanity in general don’t like change but also like to complain about what they have.

I see alot of people asking for content like WoW but did you know that WoW forums have the exact same threads about lack of content and tedious repeition?

So people’s complaints are totally invalid because your philosophical epiphany proves we just hate change? People don’t just want things because everything is perfect and they’re just hard to please. At least thats not always the case.

Yes, there have been changes since launch, but the people saying there is almost new content aren’t just saying they hate the current changes, they’re saying the changes aren’t substantial to them and not what they expected.

Quite frankly, I expected more from the updates than just a few areas to do story events that would disappear in a few weeks after being introduced. Thats just my opinion and I’m not saying people are wrong for liking the changes, but it is certainly arguable that there are not many new things for a player just buying guild wars april 2014 to do that I did when the game first came out.

People likely just want to see a plan for releases that will last and not just disappear two weeks after we see it.

The rewards in this game are awful and the biggest obstacle in me convincing my friends to play/keep playing. Even my gf has curbed her gameplay time and we’ve both played since beta.

The idea that playing a hard dungeon just to get money to buy an item is backwards and stupid, tbh. The items that people like or want should be gotten from the bosses and dungeons themselves. I get it that the TP is a double-edged sword because it also gives you instant access to certain items you may otherwise have to spend effort in finding, but I think the reliance on that creates a system where it feels like earning money is more important than possibly getting a really awesome item drop, and thats one of the funner things in RPGs in general, not just MMO’s.

I’m not saying it’s a final solution, but it is the current solution.. And the consumer benefit being the direct purchase price is largely driven by the true player value of each color.

Alternatively you could just stop the RNG based cash shop purchases? But I guess that would cut into your whale fishing profits.

What’s the motive for a business to stop trying to make money? Unemployment is fun?

Maybe because its bad business practice to be so openly against trying to make paying customers happy? or fully supporting people losing real life money on something they hoped they could get but couldn’t? Sure, people like you don’t care, but other players look at things like that and realize whats the point in even offering it in the gem store if you and many other players say “you know its a gamble, why do it?”, other than for the purpose of exploiting people.

Really, RNG gemstore items are just going to exploit people who either don’t fully understand the possibilities (a friend of mine almost bought some himself before I explained it to him because he didn’t realize that even though he was going to pay real money for the gems, that didn’t ensure he would even get a dye that was worth anything). Yes, there is a chance they could get something thats worth quite a bit of money in game, but theres a bigger chance someone sees “dye pack” on sale at the gem store and thinks they are going to get better chances of getting rare dyes there than if they just use ones in the game.

But in a sub based MMORPG, they ask this question.

“How can we make the game better month by month so people dont leave?”

Sub-based mmos also like throw in a giant helping of “How can we make cancelling a subscription as annoying and inconvenient as possible so people dont leave?”.

To be honest, it still leads to quicker responses to in-game issues for the most part. For all the issues Blizzard gets for being a royal pain to deal with via subscriptions, there aren’t too many in game issues that WoW gets that don’t get rectified rather quickly. GW2 sometimes has problems and glitches persist for months and months before even being looked at.

If ArenaNet were to open a frank exchange then most people would accept what comes of that (looking at Josh and John Smith’s contributions here). Saying nothing does nothing except further disenfranchise your customers.

Saying nothing also keeps their ability and willingness to actually work for a game intact. What would you prefer? A higher turnover rate of staff because every time they make posts it’s a bunch of “kitten YOU ANET, YOU kitten UP MY GAME AND NOW I CANT kitten PLAY HOW I kitten WANT TO PLAY THE kitten GAME!!!!!!!1!!11oneeleven”? I dont know about you, but if I had to deal with that on an hourly basis, it would not belong before I told Anet “go kitten yourself, I’m not dealing with a bunch of whining brats all day everyday.”

I’m pretty sure a large part of the world is paid to work everyday dealing with “whining brats”. Thats what retail is, as well as much of the service industry.

Plus, they don’t have to do any physical labor. I would love to get paid to read people complain, beats having to listen to them do so in person or over the phone, or do actual labor.

I’m sure the staff can handle a lot of people being upset.

I’m getting tired of people complaining about people complaining.

Wait, So your complaining about people complaining about people complaining?

My brain hurts trying to think about that.

The forums are mostly going to be people complaining. Thats the nature of forums. Those who don’t care and those happy with the changes and the way things work are GENERALLY not on the forums. They are happily in game doing things. So while it appears there is rampant discontent, the reality is, it’s a small fraction of the entire game population. You’ll find the complainers post multiple times in multiple threads, thus giving the appearance that there is a lot of traffic in those threads.

That not always the case. There are also people who play the game, dislike changes, log off and never say anything negative because they move on as well as players who may complain in-game, which also happens.

I disagree with what you’re saying because in essence you’re saying theres never really going to be a problem that most players will have with a game, which isn’t really true otherwise games wouldn’t die out.

you may believe that there are more people happy than unhappy, but theres no real way of saying one way for sure. There isn’t really a guage for that.

As it has been said here already… Anet can’t say or do /anything/ without people throwing a tantrum here on the forums.
Doomsayers and over-entitled whiners will continue to scream regardless, and they will make complaint thread after complaint thread in an attempt to make any perceived ‘issue’ seem a lot bigger then what it really is.

And always, a jab at the people who, for their own reasons, enjoy the game…

Two things. One, not every person who makes a thread that is a complaint or an issue with the game is over-entitled. In fact, no one on here is “over-entitled”. If you play GW2, you paid for the game and invested the most valuable resource a human being has, time. That investment plus the money for the game helped build GW2 into what it is today. Without that NCSoft and Anet doesn’t exist.

While some arguments are overdone and some people take it far, in a message board that is meant for discussion, these topics are valid. Just because you disagree with them and think Anet doesn’t deserve to get flack for it, doesn’t mean the people who complain are entitled.

If players never complained about what they didn’t like, most developers would never have a good idea of what gamers want since gamers are nearly unable to speak with their wallet, which is the main way most companies figure out what consumers want. Gamers are addicts in a sense that most gamers will buy nearly anything at first, therefore thats not an accurate gauge of what they may like for future content (obviously there are plenty of casual gamers that do not fit that description).

And seeing lots and lots of topics don’t make an issue seem “bigger” than what it is. It makes it a big issue.

PVE is back to normal finally. It’s not ruined. Introducing champ trains back in August was one of the worst updates to this game. I stopped playing for a good 10 months or so. Now with the megaserver update, it’s time to get back.

Champ trains effected how you enjoy the game? How exactly? Because the constant infusion of materials from loot bags kept the price of materials down and it allowed some people who hated doing dungeons and weren’t quite good enough to do fractals or EotM to make some gold. At worst, you might have seen people asking where the train was, but now that’ll just be replaced with people asking where the blade shard merchant is or which temple in Orr is about to be run.

- A big chunk of dungeon crowd went to champ farming and never came back. 3 of my friends stopped playing because they liked dungeons, not farming some landscape monster for hours. Eventually, I stopped too.
- When I was playing lowbies in queensdale, map chats disgusted me. Sometimes farmers interfered with my leveling as well.
- Everyone was farming like brainless bots 24/7 and gem prices went up like crazy. Converting gold to gems became a joke.
- 3/4 of active players in my guild stopped playing. After 1-2 week of farming themselves, they’ve had enough. We don’t like cheap and shallow gameplay.

Now, this update finally brings some light…

Champ farming had nothing to do with gem prices. If anything could effect it, dungeon runs would also effect it, if not moreso because there is more gold to be had by dungeon runners than champ farmers.

I doubt players stopped playing solely because of other people doing champ farming. Likely they just felt like there wasn’t enough interesting content.

Map chats can be rude no matter what, and it isn’t just champ farmers. There are flamers and trolls even in citys.

It was nearly impossible before to make money and still a hard grind because you had to farm boring champ trains over and over zzzzz or dungeons over and over. But at least, if you needed, you could do so.

However, now you can only get one chest per day in dungeons? What a load of rubbish!

Not only are the chests daily, but the drop rates have been hammered too! Don’t see that in the notes, but it is a fact. I used to do a dungeon and come out with 3-5 rares, now I don’t get any! It’s blues all the way with the occasional green.

The loot chests have been ruined and the loot you get from said chests when they are there is just a joke.

PvE is officially kitten and worthless now. You’ve ruined the DPS, you’ve ruined the rewards, and you’ve bugged it all.

Near impossible to make money??? Im laughing my head-off at this ROFL

Outside of TP flipping or spending hours wasting your life doing dungeon runs/EotM/champ trains, there aren’t that many good ways to make money.

I’ve been running around FGS trying to collect Corrupted Lodestones with a birthday booster, omnomberry bars, guild boosts and a MF over 200 and I’ve gotten about 5 in 2 weeks (25 hours or so).

I realize there are ways to make money, but there really aren’t any good ways that are fun and that would be something most players would be doing if the money incentive wasn’t there in my opinion.

lol, what money incentive?
pve content doesn’t require more then exotic gear which can be bought with karma or dungeon tokens.
So yes, if u want a full exo set from 1 dungeon it will take you, what? 1week/2weeks of doing the dungeon daily, as i understand OP prob has tokens enough to buy 100 full exo sets and still have some left.

I don’t get why ppl are constantly looking for ‘the best way to make money’
I’m having fun, and guess what, my gold counter is going up without even trying.
I know some of my friends earn 4or 5G lol some even 30G more on a day then I do,
and guess what just as irl, its never enough, and they never buy anything because, what if they launch the most epic skin ever next week?

jeez.. if u don’t like what they did to the game… go play something else, i think wow space version has been release by now.

yes, because clearly everyone plays the game the way you do? Because my gf who use to try and use a champ train to earn some gold every now and then to play around with her chars looks because she only really plays 5-10 hours a week, has a ton of options to make this money that is supposedly so easy to get? Not everyone is experienced enough to go quick, efficient dungeon runs to get the money you probably get from it.

Not everyone can play the game the same way you can so what you’re saying comes off like “i have friends that can make 30 gold a day so why are you complaining?”. I’m pretty sure people are allowed to bring up things they believe are valid criticisms without being told to go play “something else”.

Yes, gold isn’t essential to the play, but for players that like skins and customization, a lot of gold is required and thats not easy to come by since there are no reliable ways to actually get the items in the first place.

I think Alice is a good example of what I was talking about.

And right now, leveling is a bit more taxing on newer players and I’m having a hard time keeping one of my friends motivated to play the game. When a player levels up, they like to feel rewarded and a little bit stronger, otherwise it starts to feel like the first few levels are pointless.

I can understand their goal with traits, but I don’t think they should have made 30 the starting point.

Wait, wait, wait, wait.

There was a “problem” because players would get flamed for disrupting the champ train? you know who also gets flamed? A lot of random players who are doing nothing wrong that has nothing to do with a champ train. I’ve seen people get flamed for suggesting a particular race or profession or skill for a person asking a question. I’ve seen people get flamed for dying in a dungeon or a world boss. People will flame whether there are champ trains or not, so I don’t see how that is a valid reason to eliminate a train or cause an issue.

Conclusion: The rules changed, play how you want within the new rule set. Just like you played how you wanted within the old rule set. It’s that simple.

Or, we can ask Anet to change the rules. Anti-champ train whiners did so succesfully, so obviously it works, we just need to shout louder, right?
(Info: i don’t even take part in the train. I just get annoyed that everytime there is an option to earn something in the game, people whine until it gets nerfed. And in that time TP barons get wealthier and wealthier).

Anet did not change the champ train because of “anti-champ whiners”. They did it because the saw their game turning into a bunch of people zerging a path over and over and over again. If I had created a game with a specific vision and saw people were just sticking to one specific spot running the same path over and over, I’d change it too. Like me, they figured those people would find some other way to make money.

And they will. Most of these complaint threads right now are knee-jerk reactions to people suddenly having to do things different.

Here’s a great example: I play this game with my GF. Typically we do the daily, she logs off, I PvP or WvW or dungeon or something. Anyway— with this new patch, the dailies changed. Daily Gatherer and Activity Participation are no longer static. She literally quit mid-daily yesterday because it was different and she said she didn’t like how they changed her routine. In the end, instead of Gatherer and Participation, she would have had to do Daily Skill Points and Daily Events. I played the world’s smallest violin for her last night, and I’ll play it for you guys today.

You guys just need to get into a new routine. This game has so many things you can do. Get out of your comfort zones.

Wouldn’t a better way to encourage people to “get into a new routine” be to change the reward system and loot tables, and increase the quality of loot drops so people can make money or have a shot at decent items without resorting to dungeon runs, EotM, Champ trains or TP flipping?

I also play with my gf who likely won’t log in for awhile when she heard that the champ train was nerfed, the one that she liked to do every now and then to try and sell some items to get enough gold to buy a new dye to customize her characters with (or some new skins). She was also kittened that dyes no longer drop from loot.

Instead, she now tells me she sees a game that constantly makes it harder and harder to get gold or items a player may want and that the grind is boring and makes it less fun to play.

I’ve said it a million times in the past that farming doesn’t hurt an online community, players do. The reason there are inflation issues are because ANET makes it very difficult for players to get items they want and force them to head to the TP where lucky/wealthy individuals themselves are looking to make more and more money by getting as much gold as they can out of their new shinies. Half the economy is geared towards people earning money for a Legendary or Ascended gear. If both were soulbound/account bound on acquire and only gotten through crafting, only materials would be pricey and every player would at least have decent options to get them and thus it would look like there were no inflation issues, at least in my opinion.

I think gamers really, really have a hard time understanding that not every person has the same “skill” and ability in a video game. I play with people all the time who are extremely casual about video games, and often times they find the most unusual problems and can often get confused at things that are second nature to me. Some of you really have trouble understanding that there could be plenty of people like that trying to play Guild Wars 2.

It’s pointless and counter productive to essentially say “you think its hard? wow you really shouldn’t etc. etc. etc.” because thats no different than Kirk Hammett not understanding why you can’t play a guitar.

I know my gf doesn’t want to play anymore, which is rather disheartening. All the constant nerfs to loot and drops and the ability to make gold has pretty much tarnished her opinion of the game and would rather play Folklore or more of my PS3 games atm then log in to GW2. Which makes it even harder for me to decide to log in.

Nerfing damage is only going to make battles take longer and reduce the amount of gold players make. This won’t effect prices in the least bit however, because players still will strive for the carrot on the stick and many wealthy players already have plenty of power via the TP. Things will never become affordable for an average player unless they tweak the drops or reward system.

Who says it’s not going to last? With account bound now in effect, dyes are significantly devalued. Prices will continue to settle in the player’s favor aside from the rarest and most exclusive colors, but that’s never been different from any other time in the game’s lifespan.

No, cheap dyes are devalued. Abyss and Celestial will still be valued, just like the rare gem store ones, otherwise those would have taken a dive.

If anything, the demand will still remain constant for them thanks to new players and people who at the time couldn’t afford to blow 20-40 gold per character for a color but could do it for an account effect.

Common dyes went from 80 bronze to 15 silver in a very short timespan. Not because those dyes are in demand, but because they are a way to roll for a new dye.

Please log on because all those commons are back to copper again.

Thats not going to last. Abyss dye dropped to 16 gold and is already back to 20-25 gold.

Some of the cheap dyes no one is crazy about will still be cheap but many of the nicer ones or unique ones will just go up since they removed the easier ways to obtain them.

After this week, there are going to be even less Abyss dyes hitting the market, which will mean they will just climb in price.

I have one question for ANet… since it seems the devs are pushing everyone to TP flipping as the ONLY real source of in-game cash, who exactly is going to be out in the world actually collecting the stuff to sell?

Me… Playing the game as Intended.

I “play the game as intended” and I don’t get anything rare or worth much money outside of T5 and T6 mats. I think I’ve had 4 or 5 exotic weapons that were worth 1-5 gold drop and I’ve played for 760 hours.

The other night I did Jormag’s event and got 1 rare pistol, a green sword, a piece of leather, 1 blue helmet and 3 silver. Not exactly a treasure worthy of an event that takes nearly a half hour to complete, but I assume events like these are where people are supposed to “play as intended” and get their money and items.

Maybe your ‘luck’ isn’t very high, as I get quite a few decent exotic drops during an evening’s play. I have been averaging around 4-7 gold a week from drops and salvages, and I only play around 10-20 hours a week, depending on what else I have going on. My wife averages even more than that, as she plays a bit more than I do. But then again, my luck is well above 70%, and hers is close to that. Plus, I am also usually running some sort of consumable that also helps increase my ‘luck’. A high luck/magic find rating really helps what you get in drops over a few hours of playtime.

Maybe try salvaging more, as you get a lot of luck from doing that.

My Magic find is already 78 and I had a birthday booster and a omnomberry bar, in addition to a few guild boosts I got before the fight. So I had around 200+ magic find at the time. My gf usually plays with me and she gets even less than I do, although she did get an endless mystery quaggan tonic during the Lion’s Arch event, but other than that she has trouble getting anything of note as well.

Its RNG.

Instead, you’ve never gotten another dime from me, beyond the initial purchases. Every time I have been tempted to buy gems, I think about how greedy it felt during the 2012 halloween event when the BL Chest drop rate for the halloween weapons was stupendously low. I remember all the content that was removed. I think about all the minor (unvoiced by me, but pointed out many times here by others) complaints I’ve had that were never fixed, and the fact that there is not going to be any expansion any time soon, when it should have been here or have been announced, at the least.

Posts like this are always so bizarre and disingenuous, specifically for the argument here (which always seems to come about in some way or another). You’re saying you’ve been tempted to buy gems, but refrained because of a previous complaint, which ArenaNet has massively improved at this point? Gem store weapons like the Halloween set have been made hugely more accessible, yet you still refuse to buy any because they used to be a problem? Why should ArenaNet ever address any of your concerns, if you’re just going to cling to past issues as an excuse to criticize them in the future, even after those issues have been fixed and improved?

For all your complaints, you sound like the type of person who will never be satisfied, no matter how close ArenaNet manages to bring the game to your ideal fantasy.

Most of his critiques are about the game itself, not the gem store that you used the fanboi generic response on after focusing in on it.

That sole example is enough demonstrate the disingenuous nature of this post. The poster prefaces by claiming to have ‘goodwill’ towards the game and wanting the opportunity to support the game, yet they then refuse to genuinely acknowledge any improvements that have been made to it. The poster clings to past ‘offenses’ while completely disregarding any attempt by ArenaNet to address and correct those issues, simply so he or she can continue to deride and insult the game and its developer for failing to live up to a personal fantasy. Someone who truly had ‘goodwill’ towards the game, someone who truly wanted to support the game and see it improve, would at least be somewhat forgiving, at least acknowledge the efforts to address some of their complaints. But no, what we see instead is petty, unhelpful venting.

You would think someone who claims to have so much experience with past MMOs and other games would possess the discipline to not let themselves get so hyped about their fantasy for a game. So hyped that its inevitable failure to live up to expectations crushes them to the point of such shallow, one-sided whining. You would think that someone with such experience would know to play a game for what it is in the present, not what they want it to be in the future. You would think that someone who had such a bad taste with the gem store methods two months after launch would know to quit back then, rather than stick around for an extra year and a half playing a game that so obviously failed to live up to expectations.

Why should he be forgiving to ANET if he doesn’t like the changes they’ve made in the game? They haven’t really tried that hard in fixing all the problems that people have had, since there are still issues that have been going on since launch that are yet to be addressed. They had topics on forums asking for input about sigils and runes and didn’t use a single idea expressed from fans.

Its almost been 2 years since launch, and my main char still has a glitched story event that I stopped trying to get past because it was irritating not being able to progress ( I reported the bug and haven’t heard anything back about it).

I didn’t take the OP’s post as slamming GW2 and calling it the worst game ever. I think hes entitled to be disappointed and he didn’t seem to be over the top with anything.

And people can still play a game despite them being disappointed in it.

They never said they were reducing crit damage by 10%.
They always said they were nerfing total damage (this is the damage that you physically do after the game does all the calculations taking into account your power, crit chance, crit damage, your target’s armor etc) by 10%.

The number is still off because some builds will be doing more along 20-30% less. So no matter how you look at it, theres only certain builds that are going to see the 10% number.

A very good set of posts, Blood.

Frankly, now that season 1 of LS is over and the latest patch is out we are pretty much three steps back from where GW2 began.

The new wardrobe may add some convenience but it doesn’t really add any functionality to the game.

Role playing has been decimated by the megaserver move and the removal of functional town clothes.

At the end of the first living story we have no new dragon yet. No new areas opened up. Lions Arch totally empty. No significant changes to WvW. And the writing of LS was just really shallow. There was little to make you care about the characters other than maybe Rox and Braham.

Loyal guilds and alliances like TTS were totally ignored when they asked for the schedule to be altered to allow them to continue to do major bosses. I don’t know what will happen with the temple runs worlds like IoJ used to do now that world bosses spawn further apart.

We still have a grind for ascended gear, even if it can now be shared between toons.

Comparing how GW2 was on the day after release to how it is now, well, it just feels like we have less, not more. It really feels like they put out the info on the latest patch, asked opinions, and then proceeded to ignore every single thing their players said and every response we gave.

It just isn’t much fun now.

frankly, the new gemstore armor, which looks like rehashed versions of what we already have, it pretty much appropriate for this game. It is a badly rehashed version of what it was 12 months ago with less now than it had then.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel.

I’ve been playing since Beta and even got my gf a copy on the 3 day pre-order thing. It was a very exciting game in the beginning, especially with thoughts and promises that they would continue to give content, similarly to how GW1 did (at least what I thought). Instead when I log in, there feels like even less to do than when I first logged in nearly 2 years ago.

I think the LS was a pretty big failure largely due to their decision to make them temporary and lock out that content after it was over. Now when you go to play tonight or tomorrow, there isn’t anything you can do now that you couldn’t do at launch outside of Fractals and southsun cove.

Yeah, its a bit sad that its become Grind Wars. Originally when I heard the joke, I still defended some of the grind and said it wasn’t too bad because there were plenty of rewards for your time. Now, nearly 2 years after the launch, I can’t really say that i truly feel like I’d be rewarded for putting any effort into what I do in the game. Everything is such a grind and they continually try and make it harder and harder to get items or money without resorting to buying gems.

“Boss chests in dungeons are now limited to once a day. Champion loot bags and dungeon tokens from the bosses themselves will not be limited in this way.”

What problem did this fix? Why would you punish somebody (more) for being the fifth in a run to help their guildie fill out a dungeon run that they’ve already done once that reset cycle?

Because some players on this forum and likely in the game take it upon themselves to make it their business how other people play the game or make money. It apparently bothers them if you do it a certain way they do not want you to.

I assume it was, like many other things in this patch, meant to slow down the amount of gold players are making per day.

Out of curiosity, why exactly does this make you happy?

Because people that champ farm are too brain dead to play the TP.
Which means people will do more dungeons now. Good enough for you?

Not everyone wants to play the TP, that doesn’t make them “brain dead” as you seem to call it. I could just as easily call that even lazier than actually playing the game via a champ train, which itself isn’t very hard to do.

Besides, why should it matter to you how other people spend their time playing a game?

yes, because its always a good thing to make people have to grind more for gold in a game where the developers mentioned as one of their primary goals being to eliminate grind associated with MMO’s.

Although, its still a bit odd to see so many people complain about ways to make gold in the game.

I never saw the big deal about champion runs/trains/farming. It doesn’t hurt the community and gives players the chance to make money without having to devote 1200+ hours to get anything worthwhile

The mere fact this is an issue is why the system is one of the stupidest I’ve seen in a video game in general.

Its bad enough that the only real “end game” content they give to players who may be more use to a vertical progression system are Legendary weapons and Ascended armor, but because of the poor drop rate and grind it takes to make money, its no different than being on auto pilot for thousands of hours of your life.

Its not skill based in the least bit to make one but its the only real thing they’ve given players to accomplish outside of the “main game” (i.e. personal story).

I think the reason people enjoy things like Legendary weapons so much is because in many games where bosses and dungeons and events are scaled for multiple people and groups, its the one thing that can prove personal achievement. There aren’t any dungeons or rewards for soloing and there aren’t really 1 on 1 arenas or a dueling system, so its not surprising people care so much about trying to get one.

Personally, I think its best to just not bother with it until you get a pre-cursor or they come up with a new way to get one. Its a real waste of time and eventually they’ll introduce new fancy skins that they’ll make everyone grind for because despite not having “vertical progression”, this has always felt even more grindy than my experiences with WoW.

Just keep in mind though that now all a person needs is one Abyss or Celestial dye and the whole account has it. Don’t underestimate the amount of people that will no longer be looking to buy some of those commonly sought after dyes. Sure, it might entice some people that don’t already have the Abyss dye, but every single player that already has it on one character will no longer have to buy it for another and I believe that will lead to there being a much smaller market for most dyes.

Why roll the dice on an unidentified dye to maybe get one, when you can plunk down 5-25 gold on the color you want for every character?

No to PRECURSOR CRAFTING! this will be a stupid idea….

Why is that? In all honesty, its one of the only things I think they could do that would make it seem like Legendary’s are an actual achievement rather than a mark that you either have enough money in real life to just buy one or you made a ton of gold in the game to buy one. (Obviously this is about perception and won’t actually change how someone did or didn’t get one).

It would make perfect sense to make pre-cursors require gifts you get from doing some of the other aspects of GW2 that are largely ignored by most people. If Keg Brawls or Belcher’s Bluff had really tough achievements that eventually lead to a gift that you could make a pre-cursor with, you’d hear a lot more people trying to doing those things rather than just Champ farming or dungeon speed runs.

And how would the legendaries owners feel( those who earned from hardwork) If they implement time gating precursor? I lost tons of gold and also triumph with mystic forge so I say let be as it is. BiS cosmetics are not meant to acquire easily even when your paying from your own pocket (gems=gold)still you lose money. Farm your way to Legendary, flipTP etc lots of ways….and yes with a great deal of luck maybe precusor will drop for you.

idk, the same way they would feel that people can now copy that legendary as many times as they want after the patch with only a transmutation charge? It’ll become much easier to have a Twilight on every char.

Quite honestly, what does it matter what people feel who already have one? There will always be changes that effect players that have already done something. How do you feel that GW2 is on sale for $25 when you likely payed $60 for it? Same concept really. If you worked hard and earned your weapon, why should you care if more people might be able to work towards their pre-cursor?

Besides, I suggested that pre-cursors be crafted with gifts obtained from achieving things throughout the game in the same way the Legendary is, so its not like its an easy button to getting a legendary.
