Anyone who starts the game today and got the same amount of hours, being past all the events I mentioned, won’t be able to make it to legendary, no matter what, no matter when.
I’m sure you were trying to make a point, but wild exaggeration just makes you look ridiculous. Starting today, no new players will ever get a Legendary? Please, do go on.
For the record, the one or two BG peeps trolling this thread are not representative of our entire server >.< most of us are decent folk and we acknowledge we got pushed out of T1 because we were not quite at that level yet.
And sinister just please stop already. SoS will probably win this week but MORE IMPORTANTLY their opponents accord them more respect than we garnered in 3 weeks at T1 . . . . please reflect long and hard on why this might be.
Yeah I second this. As a charr with clipping issues, I wanna absolutely make sure weapons aren’t protruding through my thigh or shoulder blade before buying them.
Just wondering if there are any plans to extend the personal story, or add side quests and stuff. It would be interesting to know what happened after Zhaitan, or receive the last will and testament of your mentor where he asks you do go off and do something as his last request (also so it won’t matter whether or not you killed Z yet, plot-wise).
One thing I was thinking of was this could be a good way to run one-time events, like the investigation chain of Lost Shores.
One, from a gameplay perspective having the event chain in the open world apparently bugged it to hell. Personal instance would solve it.
Two, in terms of difficulty the entire chain was soloable anyway so why not.
Three, from a lore / personal experience POV its cooler. It would feel like YOU are really responsible for unraveling the mystery of the karka’s unprovoked attack and unmasking the greedy Consortium. Instead of the experience of standing around with 50 other people waiting for the NPC to turn red, and spamming your most powerful attacks when they do so you get kill credit.
Anyway just some thoughts.
The majority of the posters in the thread agree that this is typically only completable through luck or through using very specific skills not available through most classes. You are in the minority in having completed it. Up your reading comprehension ability.

Well there a bunch of people in this thread that think its doable and some say its the easiest in the game.
Honestly though if you have team members who listen and can follow instructions its extremely doable. Yes if they’re contrary kitten you will fail but same goes for most content in most games. IMO there are two basic requirements that once satisfied will allow you to complete the fractal easily:
1. 3 runners, 2 supports. Figure out who does what. I play guardian, sometimes I support by giving stability and speed buffs to the runner and aggro mobs away. Other times I run myself and use shield skills and trust my support to help clear the way.
2. If a wall appears in front of you, 90% of the time there’s a part allowing you to jump over it. If not, no worries, reset and repeat. In fact you can keep resetting until you get a wisp distribution that you’re comfortable with.
Hope this helps!
I can understand your pain, but the reality is you pay a premium to be ‘first.’ Its like you buy a car, then next week the dealership announces a sale. Yeah it sucks to have paid full price, but neither can you go back and ask for a retroactive discount.
I think of it as a kind of talisman or fetish that helps the magic user focus and control his powers. Like an amplifier for magic abilities.
That said, I am waiting at this point. No reason to freak out yet. Who knows… The upcoming news they announced may introduce new ways to obtain this new bis gear.
+1
I felt bad at first that highest level stat gear was out of my reach due to my playstyle (style over substance ftw), but after awhile I decided that 1.) it doesn’t affect what content I can play and 2.) they may introduce new way to get the gear. So I’m back to explorable runs of SE and CoF to put together my dream ‘castle on fire’ look.
I guess OP meant they couldn’t pop the bubble because they were down to 3 party members.
OP you can’t expect Anet to tune the difficulty around whether or not you lose 2 party members, that would essentially make it a 3 man encounter. That being said, the root cause of the problem here is the stupid DC problem in fractals. If people could rejoin after DC-ing this wouldn’t be an issue. I know they’ve said they’re working on it, that’s good, but til then I won’t invest too much time in the higher levels, will stick to D5 or less.
IMHO that 20% (or whatever) only matters in W3. So that part of the playerbase has a legit point.
For the rest of that game it matters not at all. I have exactly 2 pieces of exotic gear, the rest rare including weapons. I can run any dungeon, go to any area, and have run fractals multiple times. Don’t make it sound like without that gear suddenly the game is unplayable.
It’s a treadmill. 90 hours to get the mandatory gear to compete is a treadmill. SOrry to burst your bubble.
Who exactly are you competing with? Curious.
I agree with the OP, mostly. I don’t mind the new content because it doesn’t lock me out of any content. I can still run any dungeon, go to any area. Even agony isn’t that much of a big deal. By the time you get to level 10 you’d have crafted your backpiece already, and beyond that ascended trinkets start dropping. So not worried.
Ah great, thank you for the reply. Asking cause have a few friends who have not done fractals and we’re planning a run. Now I know what to expect.
The investigation stuff should have been made personal instances, exactly the same as personal story. Heck you could even make it part of the personal story, as in, the further adventures of your hero! Logic being that you don’t NEED anyone else to complete this stuff, its a solo mission, other players don’t do anything except get in your way. Finally, for those actually interested in the story this would be a better experience. Some Anet employee worked on the dialogue and the plot for this content, I feel bad for them cause I had absolutely no time for that as I was spamming attacks on green NPCs, so that the moment they turned red I’d have a chance to hit and get kill credit.
Yes god please. So hard to find SE groups.
Just wondering if there are diminishing returns for the Fractals dungeon? Both in terms of loot drops and tokens. Or can you just one level over and over and expect the same results (assuming you can find a party member at that given level).
I meant if people were chasing fractal tokens or trash rares for salvaging. Looking at the amount of tokens needed for dungeon rewards, I highly doubt they were meant to be obtained by running every difficulty level only once, I mean that’s 1,350 tokens for the fractal capacitor, the level difficulty for that would be insane.
So if Joe Hardcore is already at level 15+, if he thought about it, he could probably go back and do a full level 1 clear easy, say in an hour or so? And earn tokens at a greater rate of efficiency than trying to clear level 15+. Anyway that’s what I was getting at.
Actually I think in time people will realize that speed clearing lower difficulty fractal levels is more efficient reward-wise than running inferno mode (levels 15+). Whether you’re chasing fractal tokens or trash rares for salvaging. This would mean that players on lower difficulties would be sought-after instead of being discriminated against.
Its kinda how people are suggesting that story mode dungeons give improved rewards (though of course not at par with exp mode). If story mode gave say 30 tokens, hardcores would consider doing it for their token grinds while casuals would have a chance to complete story mode. Instead of what we have now where its almost impossible to put together a story group.
Go to Lion’s Arch and take the asura portal to the Asura homeland.
If you haven’t unlocked any way points in LA, go to W3 (press B then click on the menu to go to any W3 map). There’s a portal to Lion’s Arch in your arrival area.
That sucks. I thought it reset weekly.
I’ve only done level 1 though and I thought the drops were pretty good. 3 rares and an exotic, better than what I make on average in dungeon exp mode. What I’m hoping now is those people at levels 10+ will do a cost / benefit calculation and realize that speed clearing lower difficulties is better returns than continuously wiping on Inferno mode. Maybe then casual players on lower difficulty will be sought out instead of discriminated against.
Hah I can see it now . . .LFG Fractals lvl 1-3 ONLY . . . elites not wanted
Stop!!!!! Hammer time ?
Collaborate and Listen!
It’s a really, really strange decision to lock the entire group down to the highest achieved level of the lowest-achieving player.
I mean, it doesn’t just make it hard for players who are new to the dungeon to make it into a party. It also makes it difficult for players who have reached relatively high difficulty levels to find a group full of people who have reached the same level.
And what are the odds that the entire party is going to be at the same difficulty level? Is it even realistically possible to form a group where nobody is “wasting their time”* doing a difficulty level that won’t help them progress further into the dungeon?
IIRC difficulty levels reset every week. As a casual player, if this is true, its fantastic. It means there will always be low level difficulty groups every weekend. Hard mode players can happily grind to the highest difficulty levels while I can play around at lower levels.
Trying to remember where I saw this info, I think it was on a hands-on preview by another site. If you think about it, it kinda makes sense. Since there is no hard cap on difficulty level, eventually players would hit a point where it would be impossible to progress. Then you’d be stuck with an impossible to complete dungeon. Weekly resets mean you can run the dungeon up until your skill level, but no further.
Yeah me too. I tried doing the investigation chains but they’re bugged to hell and back apparently. So I was a bit like hrmmmmm . . . .til I tried out the dungeon.
Still annoyed at the bugs but Fractals is saving the event weekend so far, hope they manage to debug the NPCs and reduce lag in time for day 2 events.
2 invites, everyone else I know is playing or has tried it and left (on good terms, just not for them).
I think most people are excited by this. And by excited, I mean the feeling you get when you step on a hornets nest.
This. I don’t think the Guild Wars community has ever been this excited. Even launch day wasn’t nearly as rousing as this has been.
Thank you, this was an excellent response. Yes, learning that all my exotics are now obsolete has me more excited then I’ve been in months.
Why do you feel they are obsolete? Not trolling serious question. Obsolescence would imply that they are useless, i.e. will get you killed when attempting content. I think there are only 2 situations where this is valid:
1. Fractal Mists → at deeper levels where agony and the infinite difficulty scaling is a factor. Though I can’t really make a call on this since 1.) no one know when / how / at one point agony will stop progression UNLESS you have the necessary infusions, it could be level 100 for all we know, and 2.) the difficulty level resets every week
2. W3 → this is a legit concern. Stats don’t matter as much as teamwork and coordination its true, but they’re certainly not trivial. Which is why level 80 exotic geared characters roll boosted ones.
As a casual PVX type I like the changes overall but I can see how other playstyles would be impacted more.
I’m excited. Not that my opinion counts much or anything lol.
Looks like Ascended is a nice carrot to chase but critically it does not lock me out of any content. Today I can run all dungeons and all paths with my crap rare and exotic loadout (about 50-50), I can run around in Orr and Frostgorge and most probably Lost Shores without fear of dying and do all content. Looks like I need Ascended gear to run the deeper Fractals, but Fractal progression resets every week anyway. So at the server flip everyone will be running level 1, which I’m pretty sure I can do. Yeah by the end of the week hardmode players will be at level 50 nightmare difficulty or whatever, but that’s cool can’t have everything.
W3 however is a whole different kettle of fish, I agree.
Except you don’t. Consortium chests drop from monsters and are also tradable on the TP.
Pretty sure that the chests are account bound. But yes you can trade the skins on the TP.
I am not sure what point you are trying to make other than reinforcing the idea that paying money to the skin casino is a bad idea.
Sorry wasn’t clearer. I agree the casino is exactly that, gambling and a bad idea. However compared to the Halloween event Anet at least seems to have taken note of community outrage, so this time players can get chests without resorting to buying bundles of BLC keys. As long as the drop rate of consortium chests is better than that of BLC keys then I believe this is an improvement.
Just like Halloween I am not willing to pay money for random chance for a skin. Once again, Riot games will get any money I decide to waste on skins this month.
Except you don’t. Consortium chests drop from monsters and are also tradable on the TP.
I respect your opinion and see where you’re coming from, but I’ll have to disagree with you. I still remembering farming UBRS / Stratholme / Scholo in vanilla WoW, back when 5-man instances were hard, spending hours on hours in those dungeons waiting for that one item to drop . . . which I would then lose in the roll-off. God in heaven never again
>.<
I like GW2 because as you mentioned there are multiple currencies and multiple paths to purchase. And its not THAT hard to earn gold, karma or tokens, not really, this game rewards you for everything. Like I go to Orr to farm ori and along the way pick up decent amounts of karma and gold without even noticing that much.
I gave up on it too, I suck at jumping puzzles and tend to rage when I slip and fall to my death. Its cool though, I’m ok with not having done everything. I only have X hours a weekfor gaming, I’d rather log those towards something fun and enjoyable than partake in a jump puzzle that I know will give me an aneurysm lol.
