When someone dances my corpse after they defeat me by ganking me 5v1 when I’m not expecting it or while I’m distracted fighting someone else, I usually go find them and steamroll over them to dance on their corpse right back.

I think the most ridiculous that I’ve seen was when 5 people ganked my level 20~ alt ranger one day and then all danced on my corpse like it was an accomplishment to win against an upleveled character by outnumbering them 5:1. ;D

More often than not, it doesn’t bother me, it just gives me a target and objective for the next few minutes.

It is in fact an accomplishment for some people. Why can’t you just let them have their moment of glory! Think about the children!

Not only do the devs think you’re “fine”, they’re using the fact that you’re waiting for them to get their act together against you! That engineer gathering dust in your character slot is being cited as proof by the devs that they don’t need to fix the class, ever!

If you aren’t playing your engi until it’s “fixed”, delete if you ever want to see it fixed.

Absolutely true. I never thought of it that way but you’re right. I deleted mine to make a thief anyway. Talk about a great profession! A good alternative to vampiric runes’ mist form is “self-regulating-defenses” trait from alchemy, as it triggers at 20% health (not the 25% stated in the tooltip) it really helps, I can’t even count the number of times it saved me, though you need a kit to get the most out of it.

I do have the necessary points in Alchemy, but I went with Protection Injection instead. The skills that make you drink an elixer at X% never seem to fire properly.

Bowling Ball Build - the B3!

in Engineer

ShaunZ.1098

I thought vampire rune’s mist form had errata because it seemed to activate at 10% of your health, and considering conditions won’t get healed you’re most likely dead already, you should consider bringing the runes that activate protection at 50% health instead and pick elixir S for both defense and stomp utility.

My best suggestion, considering you may bring the trait that makes exploding turrets huge blowouts, to pick just the thumper turret, because the trait goes on CD once activated and can’t proc on all detonated turrets, try and bring the bomb kit instead of the rifle turret (its damage isn’t good anyway), it provides an extra edge for melees and the almighty big ol’ bomb, VERY reliable alternative to that trait activation, plus I think it’s one of our best skills, ever, especially if you delve into tools enough to get the minor trait that resets your toolbelt skills at 50% health, this minor trait alone lets you place BoB whenever you want without fearing of wasting it and bringing great havok on unaware opponents, while causing great pressure and “get the hell outta here” behaviors to aware opponents.

Oddly enough I manage to escape 9/10 times with the mist form. It might be that I don’t get a lot of conditions applied because I’m in and out fast or because I’m Asura and it’s like trying to catch a mouse haha. I like the bomb idea and will definitely give that a try, maybe run thumper, bomb kit, elixer S. The “get the hell outta here” response is the definite target here

ShaunZ.1098

That sounds like a fun, and funny, thing to try, but I’m curious: how does the build feel, and perform, outside of the scenario where you can charge into a zerg?

It isn’t all that offensive outside of mass chaos, but it has a really solid feel to it because I have a lot of toughness and vitality. When running open field combat I’ll switch out the rocket turret for either net turret or the condition removal elixer (forget the model number). It’s a lot of fun in high places too because of the knockbacks.

ShaunZ.1098

So this is my build for my engineer, and I’m just sharing for fun. I’m not a hardcore player, and I mostly WvW, which is how I directed this build. Feel free to comment or add suggestions, but remember I do this for fun and do not consider 1v1 scenarios into anything I ever do.

- For traits I’m 20-10-30-10-0 With emphasis on turret improvements (accelerant packed turrets) and toughness (+90 tough when holding shield).
- My gear is a mix of Pow, Tough, Vit and Knights pieces.
- I use 6 Superior Runes of the Vampire (did I just lose some readers?)
- For my skill setup I use (usually!) Elixer H, Thumper turret, Rocket turret, Elixer B and Supply Crate.
- Weapons are pistol and Shield

Typically I’m the goofy engineer who runs full speed into the enemy zerg [Elixer B], and I try to get to the most densely populated part. I’ll drop a supply crate, thumper turret, overcharge it, drop rocket turret, overcharge it, and try like mad to get back to my team. The Vampire rune turns me to mist if I get really messed up, and since I run shield I can also use magnetic shield to blow enemies off of me.

I second that because I want to know what my skills are going to do when I push the button, like how it works for the other classes. When I get spanked because I randomly get the effect I didn’t want at the time, I don’t fall out of my chair laughing because it was so amusing that my bumbling engineer messed up the potion again! I don’t guffaw aloud because I imagine him like a goony cartoon villain who just can’t seem to use the right amount of (ingredient X) in his elixer.

Except that you’re nice and low on HP, and your condition damage goes limp at 25% with Automated Response. And even if you kill me the first time, I’ve already got Elixir R thrown on the ground and rez myself to continue the fight.

Hypothetical duels don’t really mean much, we could go back and forth all day countering what the other can do in words. I would love to face more tough Necros to work on my build, look me up in game and we’ll have a go sometime, should be fun.

I sort of agree with the sentiment that mind duels are only cool in Kungkittenmovies, but Necros are a very nasty class for engineer bunkers to deal with. I think it’s worth talking about because it highlights some of the weak points of TANKCAT.

Probably the hardest part about being an engineer is dealing with condition builds. Engineers simply lack good condition clearing, and they’ve very vulnerable to having their limited access to buffs stolen. TANKCAT’s primary damage output is Retaliation, but they actually have limited access to it. If you take it away or don’t do the bulk of your damage via direct hits, TANKCAT has basically no way to do anything but slowly lumber away dropping easily avoidable nail fields.

Necros are a particularly bad type of condition build to deal with for tanky engineers. Unless they’re spec’d heavily AoE, they will keep conditions on you always, corrupt your boons, ignore your burst, wait out your blocks. And if you are one of the rare engineers that spec’s to ignore conditions at 25% hp, the Necro can pop death shroud and actually hit shockingly hard with life blast. And that’s assuming they haven’t been banking their ultimate.

The main reason Necros are not an absolute terror in small groups in WvW is because they tend to roll with utilities that give them the best AoE condition damage options in the game. Swapping out Epidemic for Corrupt Boon changes that equation, as does trading in a staff for a dagger/dagger or dagger/focus. Occasionally you see users like Sheobix make roamer power builds and they’re pretty frightening to watch (necro’s melee damage is shockingly strong). I’ve never seen an engineer build has a chance in hell of beating a well melee necro. The easy access to Stability (from DS), Chill, and Corrupt Boon just ruins Engineers of all kinds.

Anyways, the greatest strength of an Engineer is supposed to be mid-fight versatility. It is currently not the case that engineers have that (and Rangers do it better with pet swapping, not that it’s great). For now, Engineer’s actual greatest strength is that if you want you can rock so many knockbacks that you can keep melee players on the ground for quite some time, and stability becomes a must-have. Of course, Engineers have no real ways to capitalize on this power because their direct damage options are so lackluster, but if you’re rolling with a team you can make the fight much easier for the team by keeping enemies on the floor.

I completely agree with the last paragraph. Engineers are the banana peel class of GW2

blablabla tl:dr party up and watch for the squiggly black smoke when a thief reappears that is the only thing that renders on time.
