I’d go for Wraith, since Reaper is a PvP-title-thing. And Wraiths have been depicted using swords on numerous occasions.
Well for one, i basically powerframed CoF the last few days, and i was kicked from exactly ONE group.
Also, a guild so stupid that they don’t take their members no matter the profession is woth leaving IMMEDIATLY. Just saying.
And hey, maybe the Necro-Specialization will make us PvE-Monsters. With the weapon we get being a GS and Marjory ,who is a Necromancer, already having shown a pretty cool attack-string for it, this might just be what we need… My wish is that they change Life-Force into a ressource used for casting while greatly reducing the utility-cooldowns. There ARE neat combos with necro, like signet of plague/signet of spite + epidemic, they just are on a WAY too high CD.
Hype train at high speeds gets a bit of speed wobbles.
Let me ease your tension.
- New Technology [GUI] - Spoiler..At launch, most of the Trading Post's panels were actually a website embedded into the game using the Awesomium browser; since the September 2014 Feature Pack, it now uses Coherent. -source - Gw2 will be using full features of their already existing technology (as of last year) to make the UI look a little attractive.
- New Technology [Taunt] - Opposite of fear with added chain animation, but you will never guess what happens next...you AREN'T locked out of your auto attack! #shock#new#2015
- New Technology [Different damage at different ranges] - huh? - p.s. I cbf finding the live stream where they said this is new tech.
Summary – Relax
Edit: Things like directional shield wall are just nerfed shield wall, not new tech. Directional skills will require just as much if not less aim then nades. Swapping the end of your skill bar simply means your not swapping the start of your skill bar. Of course it’s going to look more interesting then existing classes because..IT'S NOT AN EXISTING CLASS
Edit 2: Revenant brand new energy management system is actually some of the oldest innovations developed originally in gw1 – too bad there’s still no capes!!1111!!
Edit 3:
EDIT: Clarification – this is not a discussion about power creep. Revenant won’t be stronger in numerical terms, Anet wouldn’t let that happen.
hehe do you remember when they first unleashed the assassin in gw1? I guess insta kill doesn’t qualify as OP though :P
The thing is… I’d rather have Necros (I’ll only compare it to Necro cause that is what I play) use their Life Force as a ressource-bar and have wells, signets etc. have a lot lower cooldown. Because that would actually better than having no ressource (well as long as Necros would start with 30% Life Force or used HP to use skills when LF is 0). You see, “spamming” and combining skills like the Revenant is FUN. Having awesome combos like Signet of Plague&Singet of Spite + Epidemic on a 2 minute + cooldown, however, is NOT. It is basically the same as Mallyx using his “Draw conditions from allies” and “pulse your conditions to nearby foes” skills, only those to have a cooldown of..right, ZERO. Basically, if Necro-Spec changed the Necro to use LF as a ressource, and lower epidemics and singet of plague/spites CD’S (of course all the other skills too) to something like 10 seconds, 15 seconds etc, it still wouldn’t be OP (again, same as using the 0 CD-Mallyx ones), but instantly would bump the fun of playing said combos, finding new ones etc. and make them way more viable and awesome. There isn’t even a need to change Life Force to only have x points, they could just use percentages for the costs. And it would be different from Revenant, too, because the ways to gain LF would stay the same.
NOTE : I love playing Necro. I pretty much ONLY play Necro. Problem is that only a very limited amount of skills actually feel fun and impactful to use, which pretty much recks the diversity that could be had with a ressource-system.
…kitten , that was a rather long derail. Sorry for that.
BTT: Yes, sure Revenant will not be the know-all be-all, but the point is that
a) All his Utilities/Heal/Elites so far looks perfectly in sync and can be used as such due to 0 CD.
b) The traits so far also seem to synergize great with the given legends.
c)The weapon skills are also better designed.
Then add to that that not a single of those is found on current classes, as well as no info that they will actually have any plans to bring the core professions in line before, with,or shortly after HoT, and we have a problem. Though I’d imagine it will be the combination of the Revenant and the other classes’ specializations that will leave the core professions – especially the ones with the most current problems like Necro and Ranger – in the dust until something is done so that there is actually a meaningful choice whether to specialize for a specific task or go back to the core profession. Until then, people will just run around with the “more shiny, better in synch and fresh” specialization…always assuming they get the same amount of love to details as the Revenant currently displays.
Mallyx =/= Mallix
still better than thousands of Daernyss passing me by every day
Or the propably hundreds to thousands "Shiki"’s?
The speed at which that name is gone from a game always annoys the hell out of me… I created my first character literally 5 minutes after it was possible in the 3 day headstart and the name was already gone.
1) Will the Necromancer-Spec be more PvE-focused? (Meaning being a (preferably melee) power-user with something unique and MEANINGFUL to bring for the team in dungeons/fractals)
2) Will there be a mass-rebalance-patch for the “Core Professions” before/with/after HoT?
3) If not, what reason do they think we have to continue using the Core-Professions which all more or less feel dated and, compared to the revenant, feel like the synergy of traits and on some classes, skills, is severely lacking?
4) Can we expect a Specialization receiving a ressource and low-no cooldown skills for their class-mechanic-change?
I like this thread. It has everything a good class, forum thread should have.
I look forward to where every necromancer, in WvW, will make a determined charge stright to the revenant for the vindictive justice. Just for the lols.
Well, Mallyx revenants will pop like balloons to necros packing boon stripping, so…
Granted, it depends with what the rest of the legends bring to the table as well as some traits.
I still want to use epidemic on a Mallyx-User in a group-fight. Oh you absorbed your mate’s conditions? Thanks for letting me put. every. single. one. back. On ALL of them!
I’d rather enjoy the death of Marjory and her barbie doll with no personality.
Not gonna happen. Yknow why? Because she will most likely be the one to go for for Necros that want to learn how to (ab)use Great Swords, since she already is a Necro that uses a GS.
That would be cliched and lame.
Actually the “hero” somehow being immune to the madness would be more cliché. But then again, i guess our Sylvari-chars are also immune (there is NO way they wouldn’t be X) )
I like how every thread like this someone comes along and says deathshroud is the problem…… ok….. so… the class mechanic is the problem…..
THEY AREN’T GETTING RID OF DEATHSHROUD so stop saying it’s the problem…. don’t be so narrow minded. There are other ways.
DS is not the problem ladies and gentlemen.
Actually… with the Specialization hitting, we just might see them getting rid of DS. Or add a second Life-Force using mechanic, like changing Necro-utilities to way lower CD’s but costing x% of Lifeforce. I’d actually LOVE that change (well as long as that meant Necros spawn with x% of Life-Force)…Imagine being able to cast wells on a 10 second cd… cloud seven. Or…maybe change it so Deathshroud (or utilities) cost health when Life-Force is at 0.
This is one of the reasons I have only done “Casual” runs. The other is that I’m a Necro main, but hey, maybe someday Conditions will actually be useful in PvE…it would be enough to just always have the highest damage Condi stacks tick first and have higher damage-condis exclusively overwrite lower-damage ones, and make it impossible the other way round. Bamm, conditions useful.
Anyway, back to my point: Yesterday i started running Flame Citadel. I have had my lvl 80 Necro since day 3 after early access, but i didn’t really run many dungeons. So after hearing about the expansion i thought “kitten boy, you have to farm yourself a dungeon-armor or two and some lvl 80 exotic weapons before the expansion hits”. That said, i went into flame citadel, completed the Story (kitten , that fire-aura boss was annoying with no ranged option equipped) and then ran a few 1 & 2 paths. After 2 or three times through path 2, the group we had had no Guardian. And that actually was the most fun run i had, despite, or maybe because, we failed 3 times at the “protect megg while he installs the bomb”-event… Until the warri switched to all banners and I switched from Dagger/Warhorn Dagger/Focus and the usual utilities and healing skill of the necro to Staff, all Wells (Well of Blood, Suffering, Corruption and Darkness), and exchanged an on-entering-deathssroud trait for focused rituals. With the CC, Conditions and now targeted and AE healing we easily completed the event.Yeah, 2 ele 1 warri 1 guardian 1 thief would have just spammed skills and still easily completed it, but kitten , having to adapt because of the lack of guardians was FUN. Just like the first boss in story-mode where our group wiped 3 times on the first boss, after which we figured we should stealth around the boss and take out all trash-camps around him to not be overwhelmed by the adds he spawns and the one he calls for help. But hey, most people just want to zerk through it. To each their own, i guess.

TP : Get gold / pay gold for Items. Trading: Trade item against item. Completely different things. Thing is, if i drop incompatible loot in a dungeon i do not want to wait 2-3 weeks until i get the kitten thing sold because there is already hundreds in the TP. If some one else dropped something i can actually use, and wants to trade it, duh, out of luck. Because people in this game apparently are stupid enough that they would get scammed with a trading window that exactly lists what they get and what its worth compared to what they want to give away. Right. Must be analphabets, failed math 7 times in a row and lacking any fizzle of brainactivity then…
Hey there,
one of the most annoying things to me in the game right now (well, after Necromancer PvE-Balance), is the fact that you cannot directly trade. I looked up the reason, and apparently it is because “it was abused for scamming so much in GW1”. Ok.
Now, this reason … is not worth anything. Why? Because we have the mailing system. Which actually makes scams WORSE. In a trading-window, you’d see exactly what your partner will give you once you hit OK. With the colour-code and explicit weapon names, they cannot pass a assassin masterwork for a berserker exotic either. Now with the mailing system? One guy gets talked into sending his exotic staff for a promised exotic dagger…and gets nothing. Which is WORSE than the direct trade option.
Now, I hear people say “but how should RandomNoobXYZ know what Exotic UberDagger ABC is worth?” And here comes my suggestion: Just grab the average price of said item from the trading post and display the combined worth of gold in the trading window. Easy, right? If there is a big difference in the worth of trading goods (Like, Colour Black for Master work Feathered Armor) you could perfectly see “Total worth: 30G” on the one trading the colour and “Total worth: <1G” on the one trading the armor-set.
And now i hear “why don’t you just use the Trading Post?” Simple. If I drop a rare or exotic staff but my class doesn’t have access to staff, meanwhile someone in the same group drops a warhorn which i was after for 5 runs, it would REALLY help to just say, ok, here, take that staff and gimme dat horn for it. Instead of hoping to sell the staff and get enough gold to purchase the horn.
I’m sure somebody has suggested showing the value in the trade-window before, but i couldn’t find it. So yeah. Nobody with the ability to read and comprehend numbers should get scammed with this+the already existing colour code and exact names of items. And it would be way more secure/scamproof than people using the mailing system as a means to “trade” items.
[Discuss] Revenant Trait: Improved Aggression
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Shiki.7148
The foremost Problem is: The known taunt is singletarget, and as long as they don’t allow control-effects on Bosses it would only be useful against Elites in dungeons… which don’t require to be taunted in the first place because its better to just ’zerk them down (at least in the current dungeons). And some Elites like Fire Citadel Path 2 Assassins are also CC-Immune.
Just saying that Mallyx Revenant will be like a gift from heavens for someone using Epidemic.
Another thing is…. I haven’t seen any block, evade or distortion on Revenant yet. This may be a pain and reason why some skills are as powerful.
It has a 0 CD ground targeted teleport that shadowsteps enemies out of the “impact zone” , though. But yeah, epidemic looks FUN against them. The biggest problem is…we Saw Rytlok tear things apart with a massive Shadow-Step-like combo, so there will be most likely a Thief-type legend coming , and, even though my main will stay Necro (or possibly Necro-Spec), i really hope it’s Shiro…but it will make the Revenant a pain in the kitten to fight.
I currently put my hope in
1. a mass rebalance for the new mechanics(eg. Plague Sinet getting "every time a condition is transfered to you, gain 1/2/3 s of Resitance so you can finally use it without getting #rekt in seconds)
2. Finally a PvE Condition rework (seriously, both current Revenant-Legends fit with the PvE meta just as badly as Ranger and Necro… I mean apart from eating up allies’ conditions, what does Mallyx really do in Dungeons that helps the party…and not even good Damage cause Conditions…and A-Net couldn’t leave the Revenant-specs useless in PvE, would they?)
3. The Necro-Specialisation. I pray for something that is higly PvE viable to provide alternatives to the 2-Ele1-Warri-1-Guardian-1-Thief-lineup. Something like Marjory’s Attack-String for the 1 skill with Life-Drain or Vulnerability stacking on the last hit (looks lkitten those would cleave just nicely , too), maybe a blast finisher, a repositioning skill and one of the new cascade skills…maybe a block/shield, and then for utilities something unique to help out the party…and maybe as the class-mechanic-twist “Utilities have 30-40 second less cooldown but cost x life-force instead”, and an upkeepskill…or maybe the upkeepskill will be the party help.
What do you people think?
(edited by Shiki.7148)
Revenant is actual proof that devs read the necromancer forum
I’ll use this as my sig. thanks~
Same over here.
Well, there is one thing to cling on to for hope though: The Necromancer Specialisation. Maybe we will finally get something that will make us sought after for Dungeons… I can still dream, can’t I?… ._.
Its really frustrating though, the thing is the Mallyx-Skills are literally improved Necro-Spells… Plague Signet on Crack, Selftargeted Epidemic on Crack, non-cleansing Consume Conditions, a selfbuff-Well of Power that doesn’T rely on the type of conditions currently applied, and something a lot of Necros would kill for: a ground-targeted teleport. And most of them are on 0 CD (in fact, I believe only the healing skill has a CD). Yes, they cost energy, but seriously I’d rather have Necro-Utilities cost Life Force and 0 CD. MAYBE that will be the change to our Class-Mechanic for the Specialisation… Its only a dream, but kitten , that would be freaking awesome. Question would be if the old utilities stayed the same or got, like, a 30-40 second CD decrease in exchange for costing Life Force. That would buff Necro immensly I think.
(edited by Shiki.7148)
That dragon he was fighting at the end seemed pretty cool. Not only are there no corners to stack him into but there are no walls in general. lol ><
Hope we get some dungeons with cool lookin fights like that.
The fight seemed pretty sweet, for every profession except a necromancer, stability and stun breaker is not something we necros have a lot of.
So yeah looks great, unless you are a necro (this has been 2 years of GW2 for necro players anyway though)
Well, my grand hope is that the Necro-Spec will be a PvE-Monster while being less effective in PvP than, let’s say, a condition-build. If Marjory’s Great Sword Attack-String will be the Specs 1-string and has decent cleave (which it looks like it has… 2 wide diagonal slashes and then a whirl) it will already help a great deal, and then maybe a party-buff or having a 20-50% chance of adding 3-5 stacks of vulnerability on the third hit of 1 could be a-kittening-mazing.
Well what annoys me most is that Mallyx’ skills are “upogrades” to Necro skills, or necro-skills with a little twist. His ult is basically a 0-CD-upkeep-selftargeted epidemic, he has a 0 cd activatable “signet of plague” that gives resitance, too, he buffs himself for every condition (noncleansing selfbuffing well of power) and his heal is basically consume conditions (although I’m not sure if he cleanses conditions on that, either. Jalis’ heal does, though). What I’m really hoping for is a mass-rebalance, or at least finally a rebalance of conditions in PvE… why make Mallyx such a beastly condition-flinger if it will be useless half of the game?
I just pray that Necro get Marjory’s GS attackstring as their GS-1 (and obviously something that will make them a good fit in Dungeonruns), cause otherwise I’ll be REALLY sad X)
It is just my imagination or are they increasing the range of supportive skills? The “new Plague-Signet” from the Revenant has in my openion a much higher range then said Signet from the necro.
As i said, maybe we will see a mass-rebalance somewhere before HoT. They DID say something about the stability-changes hitting earlier than we might expect…
There is no way I get “no skill will ever cost more than 50%/the amount you start with” from that. There’s not much “push-pull” if you come in with all your buttons hot and are just waiting to store up double what you need for your best shot…
And, no skill from the stream today cost more than 50% of the skill bar.
And it seems like you can stay in one legend if you know what youre doing.
It seems more like you SHOULD stay in one Legend currently. Especially if its Jalis and Mallyx. I think the skills of those two just don’t synergize too well, but that is propably intentional, showing the most opposite Legends first…
I disagree. I can see some very active playing with the Revenant and am looking forward to it. Manage your energy, manage your skills, keep cognizant your positioning, swap legends to optimize the outputs. Absolutely loved the look of the profession in today’s POI.
All that said, I think we will have a lot of Revenants early on of course because they are new and shiney, but the active and intelligent game play it seems to require will likely thin out the herd rather quickly.
Well as long as there is a mass-rebalance to the old classes aswell. Like, seriously, 4 of Mallyx skills are literally more powerful and better synergizing Necromancer-Spells , which might cost Energy but currently, the cost vs. the recharge is laughable, and some if not all of them have 0 cooldown. He has a “consume conditions”, a “Signet of Plague” that isn’t permanently absorbing conditions and makes him “immune” to the absorbed conditions for a short time, a spell that empowers himself for every condition he has (self cast Well of Power without cleansing, possibly sustained), and a self targeted, 0 cooldown, sustained “Epidemic”. And, to top it off, he has a blink that applies torment and teleports every enemy hit away from the target location. Like, whut?
And yes, i know, balancing is not nearly finished etc. etc. It just feels like “Nope Necro, you are out of luck” currently.

Darn. I missed it. Is there a way to see it still?
You should be able to by going to www.twitch.tv/guildwars2/profile and then go to the “Past Broadcasts” tab. It might take a little to be avaiable in higher quality though.
