Duct Tape Applied [Charr Ranger]
A Roll Of Duct Tape [Human Guardian, Commander]
Right now the ranger class has many problems with our largest problem being anet devs and coders.
This is probably the most accurate statement I’ve seen on the forums.
I -want- to love the ranger, but I can’t find a reason why when there’s no reason to use them, since they’re outshone in every role by every other profession.
I’ve actually picked up GS to try to find SOME kind of redemption in the class.
As it stands, the profession relies heavily on the pet to deal an acceptable DPS by PvP standards. Unfortunately, pets are INCREDIBLY easy to kite and avoid completely. Putting it in perspective, this would -very- similar to making every other profession only be able to hit on every other attack.
As for the person who stated that ranger is included for PvE – that’s absolutely true… and it’s pretty much the only thing they’re all the useful at. There’s a reason why, in many lists, ranger is either last or tied with last in it’s usefulness when stacked against all other professions.
Rangers need a significant buff, or else all they be useful for is supporting another profession… and while rangers are (and should be) support, they’re still not quite as useful as having any other profession watching your back.
Actually, I agree with achensherd, if only the beginning of his post.
I picked ranger for my first class because, in GW1, my favorite class was ranger. Unfortunately, it is FAR less useful in this game than in the previous; whereas, in the previous, a few interrupts and conditions, I could take on any one target in PvP… in GW2, I struggle to find a build that can solo anything at all.
I understand it’s mostly because of mechanics (lack of seeing skill the enemy is using, inclusion of traits, inclusion of dodging, etc.), but it really does make me sad that my favorite profession, while decent at support, is mostly outshone by basically every other profession.
In short – I’d want to replace GW2 ranger for GW1, though I know it’s usefulness with the new mechanics would be highly diminished.
I wouldn’t be against changing the points up, even if it were just for a test run.
I’m in HoD (with a noticeable lead on NSP and GoM) and, under several of the commanders, there are often huge zergs. I like the more fair battles (honestly, I loved it before all the transfers, except our lack of a night team, which I believe was our cause for losing).
Good fights, all around tonight.
GoM who wiped most of the HoD group about to kill the grub in EB – awesome job. I tried warning them, but mob mentality prevailed and they paid the cost.
I also would like to apologize for Server Police’s zerg; I know numbers matter in fights, but the size of that zerg was utterly uncalled for, and I’m not someone to pretend otherwise, even with my own side benefiting from it.
In the few fair situations – goods fights with both GoM and NSP. Looking forward to seeing both teams adapt, now that HoD’s had a (long needed, though possibly TOO much of a) boost in numbers.
Oh no, so NSP and HoD are double-teaming GoM. Is this the part where we’re supposed to recruit some people?
Double-teaming? We killed an NSP zerg attacking a GoM tower, before taking tower.
This is comparable to limiting badges and blueprints to one character – it’s absolutely silly and would take MANY more times as long to get anything accomplished.
Fortunately, badges are shared by account.
Blueprints can be transferred by dropping (pressing ` while holding) for a friend, and having them drop it back for your other character.
Because of this, I’ll only ever be using 1-2 characters for WvW and will likely -never- max out either. Poor decision, in my opinion, and needs to be changed to account-wide.
Needs more incentive to do things like escorting dolyaks, defending points (as opposed to running with the zerg), doing WvW events (aside from the nodes, orges, etc.), need to put further reqs on becoming a commander (we’re opening commander to people who need ZERO experience), need to remove AOE restrictions (Limit of five targets, seriously? That’s BEGGING people to travel in zergs).
Honestly, the AOE thing that the original poster stated doesn’t bother me all that much. Siege is already a HUGE benefit, and – aside from other siege – AOE is often the ONLY effective manner to take it down. I feel like it balances out – it’s something that can be done by either side.
100% out of my own pocket.
I do believe that they should require badges as well, though. It’s rather stupid that people can purchase without any previous experience in WvW, though. There are a LOT of commanders on HoD that 1.) aren’t good and 2.) never in WvW in the first place.
That said, it’s rather easy to find which know their stuff and are dependable.
I won’t say it isn’t happening, but I haven’t seen any double-teaming lately. Outside of the JPs, I’ll attack either side regardless. In fact, last night HoD was bouncing back and forth between GoM and NSP BLs to keep pressure on both sides.
Haven’t been in since reset, but disappointed to see that HoD is still red, even with the lead it had. Another reason why the glicko system was a horrible call, methinks.
Definitely supported.
It’s obnoxious enough to run into a mesmer or necro and seeing the same, elongated name 5 times; it’s an eyesore to see it 40+.
Right now is a great time to move to HoD, ET, or FC as all three are completely free to transfer to until April 1st.
Actually, unless it’s changed, HoD’s off the list. They were up to high population. It only pertains to those who remain medium.
Regardless of reason, I’m for the commanders having the option to only display their tag to the guild. Moreover, I’m all for guild members appearing as yellow dots on the minimaps.
It’s called Guild Wars for a reason, and sometimes the guilds need their privacy without pugs running around ruining their plans.
This.
I honestly don’t care either way about the commander icons (more options, though, is always better, so I do support it, even if I’m not avid about it), but please – include guildies as dots on the minimap. The usefulness – both in WvW and PvE’s guild missions – would be extreme.
So uh, would any oW members like to comment on these screens. Something smells pretty fishy. Tsk tsk tsk, and I thought HoD was better than this.
What a few people pull off doesn’t speak for an entire server. If it was an exploit that stuck the lord outside, then I completely disapprove.
I do find it funny that your own teammates were telling you to “leave or stop kittening please,” though. That’s the GoM attitude I’ve gotten to know so well.
do you really need more people…? really?
http://i.imgur.com/xtt5Mhy.jpgIm just jelly of your free xfers, gluck!
But yeah with the culling gone, we can no see the extent of the battle lol! awesome fights yesterday
You know how many times I’ve seen GoM do that? XD
- Option to turn off titles.
- WXP for more activities: building/destroying siege, repairing walls/gates, killing guards and NPCs(very small XP, like 1 or 2), escorting dollies, breaking the wall/gate
- Ascended items achievable via WvW
These are my top wants, and the last one’s the least I care about.
This is why I -like- being in a lower tier. In tier 7 and, like someone before me posted, haven’t seen this at all. Do we try to speed cap? Yes, of course – but we’ve had several zerg v. zerg encounters (and with culling gone, it’s JAW DROPPING at the realization of how many are actually in the fight).
The only downside to the WXP that I’ve found so far – I’m now more likely to be attacked in the EB jump puzzle.
Not the first time it’s been suggested (Here ).
I really hope they do away with it. It looks like kitten, even putting aside the fact that it’s obnoxious to look at in a crowd.
It’s a good reason (though, not the only – by a long shot) as to why people form zergs; less likely to die when you’re a mob.
I’ll admit – if I’m scouting and see three times the names of the group I’m in, I’ll map out. I enjoy WvW, and I’ll buy the occasional upgrade (I average one purchase every other day), but I’m not throwing money for armor repairs if I can help it.
Should be added for escorting, I agree. But not purchasing upgrades.
I like the breakdown of each area without it becoming too overly complicated.
A little bland, otherwise, but not bad.
That’s like banks and internet companies giving out rewards to long time loyal customers instead of just the NEW signups.
“We’ve been open for thirty-two years. Calculating back-interest on your new savings account, we owe you $$$…”
I support this.
They look super awkward now, to the point that I removed my own title because I think their placement looks silly.
I approve this message! A few more people would really help out in the off hours. Come to HoD, where 10v30 just means it takes a little longer to win the fight!
Truth.
I can’t tell the number of times I’ve seen towers and SM breached with HoD outnumbered, only to either come out as the victor or hold their ground for over an hour (POST-breach).
Like I said above, most really are skilled players – there’s just a low number count limiting the server from rising.
World Versus World Versus World Wars.
That’ll boost sales, for sure.
i’m not saying remove the option of paying 100g and only paying in badges. I’m saying, why not have 2 options.. 100g OR 5000 badges.
I see that now; but, hell, I’d rather they remove the 100g option altogether. I’d prefer having commanders that MUST have spent time in WvW, as opposed to people who just farmed PvE a lot – as it seems most of the commanders are worthless in the first place.
There are already too many commanders, and plenty of them that shouldn’t be.
If commander status was only given to people that turned in a certain number of badges, it’d make it less frequent. Chances are, if you have 5000 badges, you probably have a good bit of money as well, anyway.
100g isn’t that difficult to come by; I’ve gathered about 15g in the past week, just messing around and doing the occasional meta-event.
So +1 to this idea; just wait until after I’ve purchased mine – I used up all of my badges already. XD
Could be instability of so many trying to access WvW to look at the updates.
I wouldn’t consider it unbalancing.
Look back at the past month to two months – HoD starts out really well for the first two days, and then drops to third place for the tier as if everyone forgot about it. They need more (active) weekday players. The players they have are mostly skilled; they just need more numbers to actually stay competitive.

I’m also requesting the removal of the authenticator.
I, like many others, have a dynamic IP – I purchased the game at 10pm last night.
I had to authenticate via email:
-To link the game
-To sign into the game last night
-To sign into the game again after a break
-To sign into the forums
-To sign into the game this morning
-To sign into the game after a power outage about ten minutes ago
-To sign in to post this
2-3 times is fine, but after the fifth, I’ve just been keeping my email open. I know security is a major issue for MMOs, but I have full faith in my ability to select a password and would much rather face the risk than have to go about this every single time I wish to do ANYTHING GW2 related.
The game’s been out since August – has there not been any headway on allowing people to voluntarily disable authentication?
