The x16/8_1 slot should be the correct one according to the picture/table. If the card is already installed in that slot, you have some other issue.

Remember: you have to stress your card while you look at GPU-Z. For example by activating the render test (question mark next to the value) or having GW2 running. If you don’t stress the card, it dynamically switches to a powersaving x1 mode.

I actually made a calculation with buying ectos, salvaging, selling the dust. Going from ~170 to 300 MF costs about 2000-3000 gold, depending on the changing ecto and dust prices.
By the way, this would require you to salvage about 33000 ectos (132 stacks).

Not with every board. I saw quite some mainboards where people complained about the x1 speed, moved the card to the other slot, and then the speed went up to x16. If you did look into the mainboard configuration, you read that this behaviour was documented. Only in a dual (SLI/Crossfire) card setup it was allowed to put a grapics card into the secondary slot.

It’s also possible to start GW2 with the command line option -windowed which starts GW2 in windowed mode. So you can choose the new resolution from the graphics configuration of GW2 and doesn’t lose any other configuration you might lose if you are using -prefreset or remove local.dat.

There are mainboards with more than 1 16x slots, but even if the graphics card fits in both, it has to be placed in one specific slot. Usually the one closest to the processor socket. Look into your mainboard documentation which one. But since there are usually 2 slots, simply try it by using the other slot.

As far as I remember, the prices last year were based on wrong assumptions on Candy Corn availability by Arenanet. So the prices were not wrong due to a bug (someone entered a wrong number) but were put in the game correctly as intended. Only some time into the event it became clear that the calculation behind the price was wrong.

A correction as hotfix was not possible, since the price was “right” – according to the original calculation. A new price had to be calculated from scratch on the actual Candy Corn availability, and I assume there was not enough time to do this within the time frame of the Halloween event. And since there was no critical game component involved, Arenanet probably chose to let it be as it was.

I’m not very fond of such forms of exclusivity. The players should be able to choose their outfit and toys from a wide range of things. Personal taste and not money should make the outfit. See me: I own the Witch’s_Hat. I don’t know how it happened, the skin simply survived to the wardrobe update in the mess that is my account inventory. Now I am using it for my Asura on my ascended armor.

It is sad to tell people that it is not currently available who ask where they could got it from. It’s heartbreaking, because I see almost no one with it, and it is such a nice addition to your outfit. I would like to see it available for everyone again, and I don’t fear that as a consequence every second person in the world would run around with that hat.

As far as I see it Malediktus, you are a vicitim of bad judgement. When I saw the Halloween prices last year, I scratched my head and said to myself: “This must be an error. Considering the (then-)availability of candy corn, so high a price for only a minipet is simply invalid”, and I moved along. No bad feelings against Arenanet, no regrets: this was clearly an error. Everyone makes errors.
An error that was remedied this year.
If you did not saw that last year and even spent valuable resources to pay an invalid price, then you could perhaps work on your judgement.

As long as I don’t see a changed gem exchange in the game, nothing has happened. I read some intentions, but 2 years of Guild Wars 2 taught me that intentions often don’t come to reality. So I will wait. But I doubt that I will ever buy from the shop again. I don’t like it that Arenanet tried to cheat me with the recent change. I did not give them any reason to try to cheat me. I didn’t cheat them. I played the game as it was meant to be played, and I used the shop as it was meant to be used. If feels like betrayal, and I don’t continue business with people who tried to betray me.

An explanation and apology would make me reconsidering. The claim “make it easier for new players” is not credible. If Arenanet really wants to make it easier for new players, they would produce tutorials and rework the whole complicated skill/trait/equip/combat system.

Logically, I should quit the game upon this, but since it runs nicely without shop at the moment and I have some guild friends who I like very much (we know each others for years since the time of GW1), leaving would be somewhat painful at the moment.

Unable to change utilities Asc/Thaum Fract

After the Halloween update, I am still unable to change my utility skills in the Ascalon and Thaumanova fractal, if I was once engaged in combat. The little arrows to open the skill change menu are missing. It appears that I am still in combat, although in fact I’m not (proof: health regenerates).

There was a change with the Halloween update: previously, the arrows were always present, even in combat. Now, the arrows are only visible if out of combat and not under a transformation (Charr in Ascalon, Asura in Thaumanova).

Reproduce:
- enter Ascalon fractal or Thaumanova fractal
- ensure you are transformed to Charr or Asura
- engage in combat
- get out of combat
- still unable to change utility skills, even out of combat

Having slept a night over the gem exchange issue, I came now to the conclusion that I will not buy anything from the store as long as I cannot buy the exact amount of gems I need as it was possible before the update.

Previously, I occasionally bought 800 (Credit card) or 2000 (gem card) gems to buy something from the shop. Some time later, I restocked the leftover gems with ingame gold to buy a cheap thing with the leftovers when something interesting popped up like the magic carpet. Now I am forced to buy much more gems without any need. 400 gems? Such a huge amount of gems I would buy with real money only.

Since this is not what I will do (it angers me, to be honest), I will neither restock my leftover gems with gems bought with gold, nor will I buy gems with real money, because I am unable to restock the leftover gems. I hate it to have valuable leftovers laying around doing nothing.

If you intend to install only ONE graphics card, make sure that the graphics card is
Installed on the first PCIE x16 (PCI_E1) slot.

So it is really required to put the graphics card into the slot that is nearest to the CPU, which is labeled PCI_E1 on the board surface. You cannot put it into the other slot. If there is no room, you have to make room or get a new case.

About the gem-for-gold exchange and how I want use it:

If I want to buy something in the shop, it has a price in gems. Sometimes, I already have a few gems on my account left from the previous transaction. So I have to buy the difference either with a gem card or for gold. If the difference is low, I give some gold for gems.

Now, if I buy gems for gold, I would like an input field where I can enter the exact number of gems I’m missing. This is the amount I need and I’d like to buy. The game should fill in the amount of gold I have to pay, and then I press a button to buy them.

Neither the old interface nor the new interface support this workflow.

Since I always have some gems left from some gem card, 400 gems is much too high to buy gems in bulk. Even 100 is too high, because I always have some odd remainder from previous transations. If there is some discount at the gem store, prices are odd as well. I would like to be able to enter the exact number of gems I’d like to buy.
To buy gems in 800-quantities with real money is ok, but with ingame gold 400 is much to high. What should I do with 23 gems that may be present on my account?

Yes, the problem as of now is, if you have any odd number of gems, you are currently unable to fill this up to the price of your next purchase. The odd number of gems is lost due to this. Very unsatisfying.

There are motherboards with 2 or 2 slots for gpu cards, for sli or crossfire. But with some of these motherboards, if you use only 1 gpu card, you must place it into one specific slot. Look into the documentation of your mainboard. Perhaps you placed your gpu into a slot where in a 2-gpu setup the second card goes. In this case, put your card into the other slot.

Mouse Pointer

Posted by: Silmar Alech.4305

Silmar Alech.4305

Right clicking (and holding) to rotate the camera always hides the mouse cursor. This isn’t anything a generic mouse cursor changer like yolomouse can modify. This has to be modified in the game engine of GW2 itself.

A somewhat technical explanation:
As far as I remember, this is common practice with DirectX games: If you as a programmer want the user to rotate the camera by moving the mouse, you hide the mouse cursor and move the invisible cursor to the middle of the screen. While in rotating mouse, you check every frame how far from the middle since the last check the mouse cursor was moved by the user. The more far away, the more you rotate the camera. The direction and distance of the mouse pointer determines the angle and velocity of the camera move. Then you reset the pointer to the middle of the screen and wait for the next frame.

It must be the middle of the screen, so the user isn’t able to reach the borders – otherwise rotating would be clipped and the game would lose the focus.

If the user gets out of the rotate mode, you place the mouse cursor to the position where it originally was and make it visible again, so the user has the illusion the mouse cursor never moved at all.

Not being able to press more than 2 keys at the same time is a limitation of some not so sophisticated keyboard. It’s called 2-key-rollover. The holy grail of gaming keyboards is n-key-rollover, which means every key can be pressed independently from each other. In reality, the USB protocol is limited to 6-key-rollover, which means you can press up to 6 keys simultaneously, as long as the keyboard supports it.
Gaming keyboards usually support 6-key-rollover, while cheap consumer keyboards usually only support 2 keys. You seem to have such a 2-key-rollover keyboard.

Regarding backwards: I use it often, although I know that strafing left/right allows faster movement while still attacking. It helps me keeping focus on the action. And it ensures that dodging is going backwards instead of the direction I moved previously. It often happened that I dodge forward into death instead of backwards. “Initializing” the dodge by moving a millimeter backwards to go backwards helps.

Mystic: yes, S and F are of course strafe and not turn. Sorry that I didn’t mention this. So we have at least 2 keys in common: S and F. And you probably didn’t remap SPACE for jump like me as well.

I also developed my setup around the movement keys as starting point. You moved some skills very far away from their default positions and somewhat arbitrarily – I tried that, too, but that was not intuitive and I wasn’t able to memorize such kind of setup fast enough.

My custom setup was made with these requirements:
- movement MUST be ESDF due to myself being 10-finger-writer. I need and use D to go backwards.
- easy to remember, still somewhat resembling the default setup
- important functions more easy to reach. F1..F4 are too far away, so are 6..10
- move some functions to the mouse to allow precise movement with the left hand while being able to cast some functions with the right hand on the mouse at the same time as moving.

- it started with ESDF as core
- F1..F4 found their way to the 4 thumb buttons on my G700. This is a terrific choice, since I use them every few seconds as my main char is an elementalist
- the keys RTGB are a half circle right to ESDF, so I moved 6789 down to RTGB. Still easy to remember
- the elite skill is rarely used, but important. I found the middle mouse button for this. Usually, this button cannot be used for precise operations, because you lose some control over the mouse while you press it. Perfect fit for the elite skill. I use the Logitech Gaming software to map “0” to the middle mouse button.
- Interact is very important. V is a good place, easy to reach and next to the old default of F.
- from GW1, I am used to C giving the nearest enemy. Also a good choice for GW2.
- I often threw a conjured weapon away by accidentally hitting ^, which is next to 1. Weapon swap is ideal for a mouse wheel tilt function, so I remapped it from ^ to # and assigned # to mouse wheel tilt right with Logitech Gaming software.
- the freed ^ is good for opening the chat window as with GW1 and other games for the “console”, so I reassigned it to chat
- AoE loot is great, and mouse wheel tilt left seems a natural choice for it, because it is so easy to use during fights – neither impeding movement with the left hand, nor impeding camera movement with the right hand. So I mapped U in GW2 to AoE loot and mapped U to mouse wheel tilt left with Logitech Gaming software.

Interestingly, I found I am unable to press Z precisely and reliably, so I don’t use it. Not using A is somewhat wasted as well, but I didn’t found the right function for it. I tried some, but I often pressed A by accident, so I removed any functionality from it just like Z. I tried A for the hero or guild window, but popping this up during a fight due to an accidental hit was bad.

I can confuse you even more if I say that I don’t use a standard keyboard, but an ergonomic keyboard that is split in the midde. Until 2013 it was a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000, since 2014 a Truly Ergonomic Keyboard.

If someone else tries a total remap, I say to you: try it and don’t give up. The first days with a new setup is horrible until you get used to it. I suggest you start with the default setup and think about the skills you could better place one by one. Develop your own setup one by one.

Send Error Report to aNet

Silmar Alech.4305

I decline sending reports because of this long pause, because usually a crash occurs at the most inconvenient time and I only want to get back to the action as soon as possible. So I click away absolutely anything as soon as possible that prevents me from restarting the game. In this moment, I just want any obstacle to go away.

Perhaps you can postpone the immediate sending of the report to a later time, if the running time of the crashed GW2 was longer than 5 minutes. When the player probably has the time. For example, if the player terminates GW2 regularly after his gaming session. Notify him with: “There is an unsent Guild Wars 2 crash report from <hours> ago. Do you want to send it now?” With buttons “Send now”, “Send later”, “Don’t send”.

I don't understand legendaries

Yes, exactly. You have an item in the context menu to choose an attribute combination.

You probably saw this dialog before, it’s the same as with some of the crafted backpacks (Mawdrey for example), with the difference that on a legendary weapon you can change the attributes as often as you want.

But that’s not the reason one makes legendary weapons. For the price of one legendary, you can get a whole set of usual standard weapons with every attribute combination and still keep most of the money.

Since I am used to write with 10 fingers blind, WASD for movement is unfortunate. I remapped the important keys like this:

ESDF = movement (think WASD shifted one key to the right)
1-5 = skills 1-5
R = skill 6
TGB = skills 7,8,9
push middle mouse button = skill 10
tilt mouse wheel left = AoE loot (“pull stuff to you”)
tilt mouse wheel right = weapon swap (“push it away”)
mouse thumb buttons 1-4 = F1..F4 (I have a Logitech G700 with 4 thumb buttons. Perfect fit for the class mechanics skills)
V = interact
C = target nearest enemy
X = dodge
Q = toggle permanent run

By using ESDF you can position and fix your left hand with the tiny knob on the F, and that’s where the left hand is during the game: index finger always over the F. The right hand is always on the mouse.

Minimizing every few minutes

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Silmar Alech.4305

Silmar Alech.4305

Minimizing a fullscreen GW2 to desktop also happens if you have a dual monitor setup. GW2 doesn’t properly hold the mouse pointer within its monitor.

Sometimes, the mouse pointer appears shortly on the other monitor, even if GW2 is fullscreen. If you press a mouse button at at that exact time, for example right-click to rotate the camera, then whatever app is active (or desktop) on the other monitor is then given focus and GW2 is minimized by Windows, since it is a fullscreen app.

You can reproduce this by clicking near the screen border and move the mouse out of the screen while holding the mouse button. If you release the mouse button, the mouse cursor sometimes appears on the other monitor.

There is a tool called cursor lock that addresses this very problem (which only can happen if you are using 2 monitors), and according to the description this happens with many other games, too:

Do most buy their precursors off the TP?

Silmar Alech.4305

Legendaries never had real prestige… its all about repeating the same a thousand times or selling gems… both options says nothing about how good or bad you are.

Honestly, I never did anything like farming to buy The Legend (for about 980 Gold) and crafting Bifrost. It just happened a few months ago, that I had enough money and enough material accumulated in my account bank.

Of course, I saved required materials for a long time instead of selling or using them (T6 stuff and unidentified dyes), and I did run a lot of dungeons and fractals and megaboss-events, but I never “farmed” them. I just did them when I felt like it. I would have run them even if there were no legendary weapons. It was all guild activity.

One thing that added to that was surely that I also took part in the trading post game at one time, but only for a short time to explore the possibilities of the trading post. It made me aware of how to buy and sell my regular stuff to get the most and pay the least from everything I sell or buy.

But all things put together, I would not say I farmed or traded. It just happened. After 2 years.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silmar Alech.4305

Silmar Alech.4305

I imagine a modified random number generator that runs with increasing hit probability for every miss. You start with a probability, and every miss increases the probability for a certain event. A hit resets the probability to the start value. The probability goes up to 100%, which means a guarantied hit. The parameters you need are the starting probability and a value that defines how much the probability raises for every miss.

The probability should not raise linear. The start could be slow and a fair increase in the middle. It could be some formula that determines the raise depending on the current probability. Perhaps y=a*x^2. The coefficient a of that formula could be additional parameters that define the number generation of this event.
The starting probability is lower than the current true rng probability.

You have several events, for which the current probability has to be stored separately: a blue drop, a green drop, a rare drop, if loot drops at all, and such events.

To get to the new generator from the current one, the parameters should be tuned in a way that 50% is reached if 50% is reached by the combined probability of the true random generator after x tries, and 90% is reached after twice or thrice the tries for 50%.

This way, the first hit is a bit later than with the true rng. After some misses the probability is near the true rng probability, but if you didn’t get a hit after the intended number of tries, the probability finally raises so high that you must get a hit after too many more tries.

Loot and the lack thereof

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Silmar Alech.4305

Silmar Alech.4305

My problem with the loot system is not the quantity of loot. Actually, the game showers us with drops. The problem is that almost all drops are crap. The only thing you do with your drops is selling them or salvage them. You don’t use them.
Almost never a useful item drops. Well, useful items do drop, but not the exact item I want and I need. If I want a useful item, I have to buy it in the TP instead.

The loot system fills the TP, and if players want an item, they buy it from the TP. But directly using a drop rarely happens for me. The real item source is the TP (or crafting). If instead of items only money drops and the TP still has every item for sale, my game experience doesn’t change at all. But if I buy everything from the TP, what’s the point of item loot? It would be better with money drops, because I would not waste my time to salvage/sell all this junk.

One cause, in my opinion: the usefulness of an item is determined by the probability that it has the attributes I want. The item type I want has to drop (a staff, a sword), and the attributes must fit.

Unfortunately, there are so many items in the game and so many attribute combinations, that the combination I want almost never drops. Even if the correct item type drops (1 out of 19 with weapons), the attribute combination (1 out of ~10) must fit, making it 1/19*1/10 = 0.005 = 0.5 percent probability that a given drop is exactly what I want.

The ascended weapon and armor chests that drop in the fractals are a step in the right direction, because they reduce the amount of combinations, but that’s only for ascended gear. And in my opinion it’s still too random. Too many of my ascended chests still sit unopened in my inventory, because they still don’t give me the armor/weapons I intend to use for any character. I simply don’t need healing power or condition damage in PvE, for example.

Rhendak Chest

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Silmar Alech.4305

Silmar Alech.4305

As far as I observed this, you need about 30 minutes between Rhendak kills to get his chest again, which means a pause of 1-2 spawns after a kill. I parked 4 characters at Rhendak (actually: in Heart of the Mists) and returned with a new character every 10 minutes after the last kill:

- 1st character this day: always chest, bonus chest, champion bag
- 2nd char next spawn 10 minutes after #1: no chest, only champion bag
- 3rd char next spawn 10 minutes after #2: no chest, only champion bag
- 4th char next spawn 10 minutes after #3: chest and champion bag

There were times where the 3rd got the chest (and the 4th nothing). That happened if the previous fight was a bit longer and the new spawn was late late due to nobody trying to open the spawning chest.

The day before today I visited Rhendak 3 times with a pause of more than 30 min between kills and every character got the chest.

I can provide you with lots of his chalices by now, but the exotic version of the signet never dropped for me and was pinged only once by someone in 1 week. The same with all other exotic collector items from other bosses. I’m giving it up now with this (and other) collection and wait until the update notes say drop rates of these collector items are raised. Or until prices in the TP are down again, which is probably 1-2 years in the future.

We do every version of him even with not very skilled guild members fine every time. Gear is not important.

It is always the same: stack on him, regardless if you are melee or ranged. It’s easier if he is pushed or pulled to a wall once the fight starts, but that’s not a requirement. It’s just a bit easier.

Once the red circles appear on your position, count 1..2.. and then dodge against the wall so you don’t actually move away. If the fight is not at the wall, be sure to return to him immediately, so he is not running around to follow you. This way party members who get frozen are always in melee range, so everyone just continues to deal damage to Alpha and are destroying the ice block at the same time with their AoE attacks.
And you have 5 seconds to rezz in case someone misses the dodge and goes down.

Depending on how offensive the party is, it is taking longer or shorter, but the strategy is all the same.

The main point is to dodge exactly at the moment the damage is dealt, because you are invulnerable during the 0.5s dodge. You don’t dodge to get out of the red circles, you dodge to avoid the damage instead. So the 1..2.. counting is essential.

Starting with absolutely zero, not even bags, is an interesting challenge. Ever since I saw a video where 5 people did a dungeon without weapons, I’m quite sure this is achievable and even fun to do.

I would start, and I’m not kidding, as naked beggar in Lion’s Arch or Divinity’s Reach at a populated place. Tell a sad story in map chat, doesn’t matter if it’s your own or a fictitious one, and ask for donations of any kind. Money, bags, items. The most tiny (but shiny) things. Things you get by mail doesn’t require inventory space as long as you don’t pick them up.
Ignore the flames, just sit it out for 1-2 hours. Take it from a role play point of view as a role playing experience. I’m quite sure you will have minimal starting equipment or funding after that.

From there, use the dragon or event timers and visit the world boss events to get rare items for better equipment. You only need to do minimal damage to get the reward chests, the zerg will fight for you.

Windowed or full screen doesn’t matter. And you’re doing it right. Are you running GW2 as administrator? If yes, then you must run Yolomouse as Admin as well. Or both not as admin, which is better from a security point of view.

Yolomouse saves assigned cursors on a per-program basis. That means you must start GW2 and move the mouse on a position that it displays the cursor you want to change. Then you press ctrl-shift-alt+1 to replace this cursor and this cursor only with the cursor from Yolomouse. If GW2 displays a different cursor, for example the red one if you move over an enemy, you will see the original GW2 cursor. If you move the cursor back, the replaced cursor reappears. You must replace every different cursor as well, and you can assign different cursors as well. You can do this with every different cursor an application may display.

Yesterday evening, I made a set of custom cursors for GW2, which contains 6 different cursors, because GW2 actually uses many different cursors. Normal, red (mouse over enemy within range), grey (mouse over enemy out of range), green (mouse over friendly character), golden grid (ground target and mouse in range), grey grid (ground target and out of range) and quite some more. I replaced the ones I mentioned here and I intend to make a short video to show what it’s like and provide the cursors here for your perusal. But first, I want to play with them for another day and see if they are good enough.

The default Yolomouse cursor replacements, while very visible, are atrocious from an artistic point of view. I actually understand now why Arenanet is so reluctant to provide alternate mouse cursors. The more visible the cursor, even if within the style of the game, the more it disturbs the visual and artistic aspect of the game. I suspect a veto from the art department for aesthetic reasons.

Edit: Install the 64-bit version, and make sure you have version 0.5.1 from a few hours ago (or newer), which doesn’t make GW2 crash any more.

I can make my mouse cursor disappear in GW2 if I activate the mouse pointer trail in the Windows mouse pointer options dialog. It reappears if I disable the mouse pointer trail, so you might want to look at the Windows mouse pointer options and disable it. (this is on Windows 7)

Every evening I had memorable lags or disconnects, I post in the thread in the Tech Support forum. It’s 3 or 4 posts already. Should I really open support tickets in addition? I assumed the thread is enough for this mass problem.

The forum login works for me just fine as it always did: login expires every 24h or if I restart the browser. I’m using Firefox.

For the game login and not autostarting with saved credentials since the September feature update, I found a solution by using the -autologin command line argument for gw2.exe. See here:

Unfortunately, the current version of Yolomouse makes GW2 crash if it is already running when you start GW2. I contacted the author, and he acknowledged the bug and will look into it.
As a workaround you can start Yolomouse after you start GW2 and not vice versa.

Is there a way to free up a used ingame name?

Use the Windows character map application to create your name with accented characters and Umlauts, if your native keyboard gives you no direct access to them:

Programs » Accessories » System Tools » Character Map.

Location: Germany
Time and date of incident: 2014-10-07 20:00 UTC
Game world: Kodash
All accounts originally created in EU.
Description: During Citadel of Flames dungeon, 4 people got a disconnect at exactly the same time after a lag that was 10 or 15 seconds long. We were all from Germany with different internet providers. Not resellers of the same net but really different providers: Unitymedia, Kabel Deutschland, Mediaways (Telefonica), Deutsche Telekom, Arcor (Vodafone). We were able to rejoin the dungeon, because our fifth member was not disconnected, keeping the dungeon instance alive. We were together in Teamspeak at the time and nobody had the slightest lag or voice problem in Teamspeak.

This really works. This is what I searched for 2 years now and was never able to find. Thanks! Thanks! Thanks!!!
So often I lost the cursor in battle and lost my life because of that, I cannot count. “Life saver”? Absolutely. Thanks again.

Now I will go and make some huge cursors for GW2 that are still visible but not that foreign to the game as the default cursors of Yolomouse.

Discrimination? (Non-English chat language)

Blocking and insulting people is unacceptable for sure.

I see the language issue from a more technical point of view, because the game can only offer technical solutions. The players as a whole will not change only because a thread in this forum exists that asks for being tolerant.

There are languages I as a player understand (read), there are languages I am able to communicate (write), and there are languages I don’t have a clue about. And there is a language people prefer when they write something, and this is not English for everyone.

People are often upset if they are confronted with something they don’t understand, and this is what happens if they read a foreign language they don’t have a clue about. So, I wish the game would give these players the chance to filter out the chat messages they could never in their lives understand but at the same time retain all messages (languages) they do understand. Nobody I know only understands one language, so the game limits the players’ abilities more than it should by employing the current filter.

But then -following your standards of politeness- I playing with a german client – would have to write german all the time too – even when I choose an english server at the beginning, and even when the majority of the map is talking in english. That doesn’t make sense for me.

That’s the flaw with the current system: it isn’t possible to have the client in German but “be” English in the game including map chat. Your chat messages are always tagged as German.

Oh, you’re right. The Wizards Hat doesn’t has this buckle around it. It’s just the plain hat. I missed that detail, sorry.

I’m sorry, but the hat is dyable?! At least on my character, where I did it. After the wardrobe update, the hat became a helmet skin called Witch’s_Hat, which is applicable to every headgear I presume. This is from my main:
