The Deep Sea Dragon is not bothering anyone at the moment, so i would expect the races of Tyria to go after one of the other Elder Dragons. Considering all that’s going on with Glint’s Egg, i would say Kralkatorrik is next (he might try to come and claim possession over the egg or something). Unless Anet wants to choose the least expected and send us against the DSD.

I also have to ask, if it’s so boring, why are you dying so often that all your gear is broken? If it’s hard enough to kill you that often it shouldn’t be boring.

^ Exactly what i was thinking. If i have to guess, what OP really want to say is “OMG, it’s too difficult, Anet plz nerf this” but he doesn’t want to admit that he got his kitten kicked HARD so now he’s acting all superior with the “Oh, this is so boring”. Just the fact that he thinks Zhaitan’s fight was better says everything.

Of course, unless they changed it you don’t need to open the chest to get the achievement, just reach it with or without a bomb.

It’s not changed. I did it yesterday with my Elementalist. The bomb is required if you want to open the final chest and get the crappy loot inside (or you could just wait for someone else to open it for you!), but to get the AP for the JP you only need to reach the chest. It doesn’t matter if you open it or not. It’s actually a pretty easy JP if you discard the chest and only aim for the AP, because that way you can take your time and kill all the stupid griffons in your way.

The event is severely bugged at the moment, not dropping the rewards. People are very mad because of this. Anet has stated they will fix this and compensate for the rewards. I personally, though a bit disappointekitten o overly bitter about the whole thing, especially if they said the want to fix it.

I see. Guess i can undestand the rage now. Thank you for the info. XD

Traeharne ?!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

Choosing Trahearne at that point in time was really the only reasonable option,

No. Actually it was an entirely unreasonable option.

He had no command experience, no military experience at all as near as we can tell. He actively demonstrates a complete lack of tactical acumen in play. He also admits to having no understanding or experience of Orrian creatures after claiming to have studied Orr extensively.

The idea that there was not a single combat trained and experienced military officer available to fill a command position, any one of which would have been a better choice, is ludicrous. This is particularly true in a continent in a continuous state of war.

NO ONE said there are no better commanders than Trahearne in Tyria. But how many of them were readily available, willing to take the position, and already had the trust of the three orders? There was only Trahearne at the time who fulfilled all three of those conditions.

Besides, all the complains about Trahearne are just excuses and you know it. What most people are really complaining about is that someone else became the Pact Leader instead of the PC. That’s it. It’s the “I’M TYRIA’S ONLY HERO, HOW DARES THIS GUY STEAL MY SPOTLIGHT??!” mentality. If that’s the case, then even if you replaced Trahearne with someone else better suited to be a general, nothing would have changed. People would just be hating that guy instead of Trahearne.

Traeharne ?!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

“Gixx: Logic dictates that it cannot be a member of any of our orders, lest one be seen as above the other two. Quite a conundrum!”

^ THIS.

This is the exact reason why the PC couldn’t become the leader of the Pact and Trahearne had to be chosen instead. The three orders of Tyria didn’t trust each other at that point in time, so choosing someone who was a high ranking member of one of the orders as the supreme commander of the entire alliance would have made the other two orders feel like they had become subordinates of the order the PC was in. They would have never accepted that. Choosing Trahearne at that point in time was really the only reasonable option, since he was respected by all of the orders while being a member of neither of them. So, please, stop complaining like the evil Sylvari suddendly appeared out of nowhere only to steal the PC rightful position. It’s not true.

Now, after the victorious war against Zhaitan i assume the three orders have learned to trust each other, so at this point in time there might not be any vetoes to the PC becoming the next Marshal of the Pact (IF Trahearne dies, of course). Expecially after all the credits the PC has earned for him/herself during the battles against Zhaitan and Scarlett. But at that point in time before the battle of Claw Island, Trahearne was the only option.

Traeharne ?!?

I am shocked to find out that a lot of people dont like Traeharne, besides Tybalt those are the only 2 npc from the main story i like. tell me the reasons you dont like him i am curious.

Ps – Anet dont kill him , if you must kill him give us an option to spare him.

Personally i like him, he’s a good guy.

But most people seems to hate him because he is the leader of the Pact, while the player’s character is only the second in command. Basically, they are jealous of him because they feel he’s undeservedly stealing their spotlight. XD

Daily systeem

Sir Alric.5078

Funny, I’m notorious for ignoring dailies because I’m too busy to run around maps looking for events to complete. That is the one that bugs me the most. I have no problem doing the vista or the resource gathering. but, the time it takes searching for events bothers me enough already.

Yes, I know events are happening nonstop and so easy to find one, yes, yes. It just seems for me, when I’m just working on map completion, events happening all the time. When I’m actually looking for an event? I can’t seem to find them. And we have to do 4 map events for the dailies.

You can also mix the daily from different game modes and still get your AP. As long as you complete three of them, it doesn’t matter which ones you do. For example, today i got my 10 AP doing “Ascalon Forager” (PvE) “Big Spender” and “Ruin Capturer” (WvW).
Just try to look for the easy ones among all of them.

Thank you all for your kind answers.
Yes I’m in a guild but I’m a noob so I’m honestly afraid of asking if I could go anywhere with them because I don’t want to ruin the thing for them. I think the part the fun-killer for me is the fact that I’m confused and not yet sure what I’m supposed to do in this game generally.

You do whatever you want to do in this game, so if you are confused about what to do i suggest you set a goal for yourself.

For me, it’s:
1) Pick a class.
2) Reach level 80 with that class.
3) Do map completition (i really enjoy this one).
4) Complete every available step of the personal story.
5) Try to complete jumping puzzles (i SUCK in this ç_ç).
6) Try to unlock new skins to make my character look cooler.
7) Pick a new class and start again.
8) Switch between my new and old classes in order to avoid the boredom of playing the same character over and over and over again.

For you is…. whatever you find enjoyable to do.

The one who wants to facepalm is me. The world boss in Frostgorge Sound is one of Jormag’s champions and it’s named “the Claw of Jormag”. It’s not the Elder Dragon (who is located in the Far Shiverpeaks, an area we can’t access yet), just his liutenant. Maybe you were too bored to notice?

Cut scenes in HOT, NPCs

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sir Alric.5078

If you don’t have the patience to watch a cut scene, or to read some lines of dialogue, than i’m afraid enjoying the lore would be difficult for you. Besides, your “fix” would just make life harder for those who don’t speak english as their first language, like me. I sure as hell won’t be able to follow a background dialogue in a foreign language while i’m right in the middle of all the pew-pew, slash-slah, ka-boom, etc. because i would be too focused on the fight to pay attention to the NPC’s talking. And i don’t think i’m the only one with this problem.

My point is, if you want to do speed runs only, then forget about the lore. Otherwise, just watch the kitten cut scenes for ONCE. They are not that bad, you know?

Sir Alric.5078

Disclaimer: English is not my native language, so i apologize in advance for any mistake i made.

1) If with “cap” you mean the max level for characters, than it hasn’t changed. It’s still level 80. Three new maps have been added: Southsun Cove, Dry Top, and the Silverwastes, which are related to events that happened in the living story (the post-Zhaitan part of the story) but can be explored even if you have not played it. Also, because of the events of the living story, some of the old maps have undergone significant changes.

2) Yes, this is the fist expansion. No, the world did not stay static all this time. A lot of stuff happened with the living story (seasons 1 & 2) updates over the past 2 years.

3) Dunno.

4) Nobody knows that yet.

By the way, the leveling and the trait systems have been greatly changed, so be prepared for a lot of WTF moments.

No, do not be alarmed. Look at the bottom of every mail you EVER get. If it was sent by a player (not a mod or dev or member of Anet) it will have the message that you see in that picture.
Likely that is a stolen account with a generic bot sending out messages. What ever you do DO NOT follow the link they provide. You will likely get your account stolen and it will turn into a bot account.
Simply report the mail as a bot or a scam in the ingame interface and ignore the person who sent it.

Exactly. It’s pretty easy to notice it’s a fake, since it’s written in yellow at the bottom that the message was NOT sent by Anet.

I cant tell if I’m going crazy, but I swear it all seems to have changed slightly, and not for the better.

No, you are not crazy, the same happened to me. My female human characters seem to have suddendly grown in size (the Sylvari ones…. i’m not sure) and they also appear to be now looking at the ground for some unknown reason. It’s so frustrating when you’re trying to keep up with the group and have to dodge roll through an attack to skip enemies but the Mark pops up and you enter Combat and crawl through the rest of the way.

Why can’t it just apply the Mark when we’re in Combat and doesn’t when we’re out of Combat.. or just swap it with another trait.

Well, today is your lucky day it seems. XD

Daily Achievements

Sir Alric.5078

I discovered only recently that it doesn’t matter if the achievements i complete are from the PvE, the WvsW, or the PvP lists. All i need to do is complete three of them in total, and the game will give me my 10 AP.
So my suggestion is: try to look at all the possible achievements available for the day. Out of all of them, there should be at least three you can complete to get your AP, unless you are really unlucky.

Edit: just to be clear, what i mean to say is that you can mix achievements from different game modes to get your daily done.

Sir Alric.5078

When i started to play GW2 (my fist MMO ever) in june 2014, it only took me about 5 minutes (four of which were spent to set the graphic and controls options in the main menu) to decide that my first objective in the game would be doing map completition, and that was exactly what i did. Even at the very beginning i never once had this problem of “OMG i dunno what to do pliz help!” you seem to talk about as if it was some sort of inevitable occurence for all new players.
I started exploring the map, doing any hearts and events i saw, and it was fun. I really have problems understanding what’s so difficult and boring about that. It’s a mystery to me.

Oh, and about the PS… the first time i did it with my Elementalist as a complete noob i died A LOT. It wasn’t easy at all. The second, third, fourth, ecc. time it was a lot easier, but that was only because at that point i already know what to do.

Why did the Risen still fight?

in Lore

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

Zhaitan is dead, they don’t have anyone to serve anymore. Also why did the Risen priests think Zhaitan is alive?

That’s simply because Anet didn’t bother (or want) to change Orr after Zhaitan’s demise, in a way that showed us the consequence of the elder dragon’s death. So everything in there is the same as it was at the moment GW2 was released in 2012, as if we never killed Zhaitan to begin with (and that’s why the risen priests think Zhaitan is alive. Because it is alive to them).

Logically speaking, after the death of their master the vast majority of the risen should have gone back to being mere rotting corpses, with only a few powerful ones here and there remaining active. So when we go to Orr right now we should be seeing a land almost devoid of risen, starting to slowly heal itself (because of the cleansing ritual) and returning to life little by little. But that would have meant making a major update to the game (completely remaking all of Orr maps, with the previous ones put into story instances so that new players could still enjoy them) and Anet decided they didn’t want to.

You don’t have to stay in the same spot of the same map to do the same event over and over and over again, unless you want to of course. The world is massive. Go somewhere else and do something else.

Will they also update the old maps with HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

If they clear out Orr, how about the new people that haven’t done the personal story yet? Are they to go to an Orr without risen?

Why not? They have done that with the aftermath of the first season of the living story. New players that starts GW2 after Scarlett death, like me, will see (for example) Lion’s Arch destroyed, the ruins of the Tower of Nightmares in Kessex Hills, ecc. It’s not like they get to see those places as they were before “because they are new to the game”. I don’t see why the original campaign should be any different. It’s been over two years since Zhaitan’s death, so Orr should be cleansed from the risen by now. New players would still see it corrupted and infested in the story instances, but the normal PvE maps of Orr shouldn’t be frozen in time as if nothing happened in the past two years. It kinda ruins immersion if you ask me.

Will they also update the old maps with HoT?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

We know that with HoT we will get new areas to explore (the whole of Maguuma Jungles, as i understood it), but i’m wondering if the Devs will also use the expansion as a chance to update the old maps in order to reflect the current state the continent of Tyria is in. In other words: Will we finally get to see Orr with no undead swarming everywhere, or it will still be the same old place full of Risen and pact troops “ready to fight Zhaitan”? Will Lion’s Arch still be in ruins, or there will be at least some visible signs of an ongoing reconstruction? What do you think? I think it would be nice if the world map changes according to the events of the story, instead of having areas basically frozen in a specific timeline where nothing ever changes.

(I’m not english nor american, so i apologize in advance for any mistake i’ve made in this post. ^^’)

Final LS boss help needed

I was losing badly ’til I checked the forums and got the hint that you can one-shot the shadow things if you have the Fire. So hop in the fire, toss an arrow or bullet or whatever at the shadow thing, then get to a cog to light the fire, preferably one Braham has a blue dome over. Try to be at good health before you channel the lighting in case the Shadow popcorns you. The little shadows move very slow so you have time to kill them (you lose the Fire when you shoot them, so you want to be standing in it to immediately get it back).

Before I learned that I got down to losing my doublet from all the dying. After, I got to the attack-Shadow phase within a minute easy.

^ THIS EXACTLY

I did notice the shadows right away, but i was too busy trying to dodge the dragon’s attacks (which required my full concentration, since i’m not very good at dodging) and light the fires, to have the time to think that maybe i should have killed the shadows instead. If i didn’t come here to seek help out of frustration after countless deaths, i would probably be still there, in that cavern, completely naked and fighting a hopeless battle with no chances of winning.

The number 5 skill is supped to unlock when the mob you’re fighting goes below 50% health. Unfortunately, this has been bugged for a good while now and works unreliably. I had much better luck fighting the minotaurs than the drakes – the drakes would often die before the skill would unlock while the minotaurs could be captured IF you’re fast enough once the skill unlocks.

Tip: watch the bleeds you’re inflicting with the 1(?) skill and use the other weapon skills once the mob’s health gets close to 50%.

The problem is, no matter how much health the drakes have (50% – 30% – 25% – 15% or whatever) the skill just will not unlock. I guess i will try with the minotaurs too.

You cannot use this skill while transformed.” But i’m NOT tranformed in anything!) This means i cannot capture the drakes, and that makes it impossible to complete the mission. oh my god the personal story is completely broken. I didn’t know about the old PS and the changes, I’ve only just done it for the first time. crazy stupid things are happening… i’ve seen someone i don’t know and never seen before who’s called “Sayeh al’ Rajihd” while we were cleansing Orr. and she talks to me as if we’ve met before and fought together and such. then a chapter later, we get introduced!!! and it’s not just her! in that mission where Trahe cleanses Orr and we are being defended by various NPCs, those NPCs – i’ve never met them but they all acted like we know each other, like we’ve spoken before, like we’ve fought together before. i thought "how can this be?! i’m really heavy into lore and haven’t missed anything! did i just somehow forget them? was it one of the hearts for map completion?! what?! in another chapter we start talking about Tonn’s death and about his wife – and i have no idea what the hell they are talking about. who’s Tonn?? who’s his wife? when did we ever meet? what is going on?! puzzled and angry, i googled “GW2 personal story shortened?” cause that was my suspicion and what do you know, i found this forum post! they need to either fix tons of dialogues and NPC appearances or they need to return it to the way it was PRONTO! i was soooo into the story and lore and this just threw me way out of the atmosphere…

^ THIS

Luckily, i had already completed the personal story once with my elementalist before the patch messed it up, otherwise i wouldn’t have been able to undestand what was going on.
I was really, REALLY disappointed when i played the PS again with my ranger and i got this….. CRAP. Now the story is just broken and makes no sense whatsoever, for the reasons this person i quoted pointed out.

map completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sir Alric.5078

Sir Alric.5078

When I first started GW2 I thought about doing map completion. Now that I am nearly L70, I estimate I will have less than 50% done by the time I am L80. Rather than roam around unvisited low level areas with my current character, is it possible to do more of the map on a new character (keeping existing completion) or will the map reset with a new character ?

It will reset. So yeah, you must complete it with your main character (if you still intend to). By the way, to reach 100% map completition you will have to explore all four of the maps of the World vs World mode too, otherwise it will stop at 96% and you won’t get your achievement.
