2nd one definatly.
3 reasons.
The CPU: ..its better and itsa k version, Oc’able
The cooler: its the best performance/price air cooler, brilliant for OC’ing.
The GPU: its just right
What u do when u get the 2nd computer is OC the CPU to as close to 4.5ghz as temperatures allow. Only then will you not see WvW drop below 30 fps. No current CPU at stock can manage to keep fps above 30 in WvW.
The difference you would see.
The 1st one would NOT run Ultra settings in PVE with good fps, the GPU isnt powerfull enough.
The 1st one CPU cant be OC’d, so WvW will most deffinatly drop below 30 no matter what settingsu use. Not ot mention the cooler would not be able ot handle it anyway since its a stock intel cooler ..they suck.
We all appreciate tight budgets. But.. Gaming computers do need the money to be spent on them to perform good, even more money if you want longevity with said performance. So ..do spend the extra money ..its worth it
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Im afraid your computer is most deffinatly NOT ‘a fairly good computer’.
A gaming computer ‘generaly’ needs replacing/upgrading every 2-4 years depending on how good the parts were when it was built.
So for example if you bought the best of the best as soon as its released, you could expect to be able to keep it going wihtout touching it for 4 years.
If however you bought a tight budget system, you would likely need to upgrade parts within 2 years to keep performance in games up. 3 years if its the higher end of budget systems.
Your system bassicaly needs replacing completly. You need a New cpu, which would requir a new motherboard, which would need new RAM, you would likely need a new PSU, deffinatly a dedictaed graphics card, and likely a new Case. If your current HDD and Optical drives are IDE (big wide grey leads) then u would need new SATA HDD’s and Optical drive.
Compared to what can be done i agree the graphics are not great, they r good for a MMO, but compared to other games they are ofcourse nothing to shout about. I mean it could be so much better with DX11 effects such as tessolation, true HD textures instead of repeated SD/LD textures, better AA etc.. but all that comes at a massive cost when it comes to MMO’s due to the size of the areas in question.
The graphics card required doesnt need to be that expensive tbh, I mean you can pritty much play max on a 560ti which isnt expensive ..or if u wanna try push supersampling maybe a 660ti. Again not all that expensive.
However its the cpu that NEEDS to be strong ..but again it aint all THAT expensive. A 2550k or 3570k + a good aftermarket cooler ,,then OC and your sorted. That doesnt cost all that much The CPU is around $200/£180 and a good cooler around $35/£30.
Ofcourse this is asuming your already running a 1155/6 platform. If you going form say AMD you would have to add on the price for a motherboard and possible DDR3 RAM which together would cost about $100/£100.
Worst case it would cost you $335/£310. (+ asuming u keep ur current GPU,HDD,Optical, etc) Which isnt much at all in the computer gaming world, you couldn’t even buy a top end GPU for that.
A ‘high end gaming platform’ would cost ALOT more. Somthing along the lines of 2x 670’s, 3770k, Top end mothebroard, top end water cooling, 12-32GB OC’d RAM, a BIG PSU, 512gb of SSD’s.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
I find a driver that works and stay with it ..i dont tend to upgrade gpu drivers unless a significant performance increase is reported ..that said ..Im using 306.97. And the only tiny glitch i see now and then is flickering objects ..but its rare and likely unoticable to most..i got a very picky eye for detail :P
Think what they are saying is this.
If you hit 20 times each time doing base dmg of 1000.
Asuming double dmg on crit
With 30% crit you would do = 12,000 dmg in crits and 14,000 dmg in non crits. Total = 26,000dmg
With 64% crit you would do = 26,000dmg in crits and 7,000 in non crits, Total = 33,000dmg
Difference =7,000dmg
Then ofc u can take into account thigns that proc on crit.
The important thing here is that your doing more dmg in a shorter amount of time thus killing stuff faster and thus the group takes less dmg, less lkely hood of dieing.
30% to 64% crit chance is a big deal tbh.
Its probably the same reason the name ‘Adolf Hitler’ or any variation of.. is banned, .. becouse of the prudes…
A name is just a name no matter who has used it or where its come from, alass many people dont relize this and likely som1 within Anet with authority has decided he/she doesnt want you to have said name.
GW2 has roughly 50 threads it uses to run. Of those around 3 are highly used and matter most for performance. When any1 of those 3 are running as fast as your CPU’s single thread performance can manage, thats when FPS starts droping.
Becouse of this you will see FPS droping even though your CPU & GPU are not yet 100% usuage, and this is also why you need a CPU with very good single thread performance to run GW2 WvW without droping below 30 fps (Intel 2nd/3rd gen i5’s(2550k/3570k) and above with OC)
Note: Thread does NOT = Core.
GW2 will not utilize more than 4 cores ‘properly’ becouse it runs on the old GW1 Engine (modified) and in DX9.
Hmm indeed, What Majestic said is correct. its unlikely that the voltages are at fault if they are running on auto and sotck clok speeds.
Do what he said and test the RAM, & GPU temps. If you happen to have another PSU the correct wattage sitting around somwhere , swaping that out would answer wether its the PSU or not. If you cant, then leave the PSU alone for now, dont wanna be buying new components only to find out it was the the cause.
Another thing you can try is simply reseating everything. Pull out the RAM, graphics card, soundcard (if u have one) and anything else plugged into the motherboard (inlcuding power leads). Pop out the CPU (so long as u have some thermal paste spare). Then put it all back together remembering to replace the thermal paste when putting the heatsink back on..
thank you guys
It is like everething like a pictures slides, what does it mean lag or fps?
Thats low FPS. .not lag.
It is highly likely that if changing your graphics setitngs to low does not change anything, then your CPU is what is causing your low fps.

The Coolmaster Evo 212 is the best price:performance air cooler out, but for pure performance the Noctua NH-D14 is the best. So ether of them is fine, you will likely get maybe another 200mhz of OC with the Noctua over the Evo 212.
Just note though.. if u think about getting the Noctua ..its a beast ..i mean really …its MASSIVE. You will have to make sure ur Case is wide enough and that your RAM isnt to tall becouse honestly..its like having a powersupply sitting ontop of ur cpu ..thats how big it is :P And becouse its that big it hangs over the usual places the RAM is located ..so high profile RAM ..like alot of Corasir ones ..are just to tall. But the performance is wicked, its as good as most upper-mid range water coolers.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Once you get your rig going, run it in first , then start OC’ing.
Just go as far as your cooler will allow. 4.5ghz should be the target for 30+fps all the time in GW2.. but if u cant reach it dont worry, what ever OC u get will help, and u can always invest in a better cooler later ..as u said.
The ‘k’ just means the CPU is unlocked and designed for OC’ing. What makes OC’ing easy nowerdays is that Intel ‘i’ series (1st, 2nd and 3rd gen) and their matching mothboards all come with great bios’s that have many options open and allow full control of the cpu. Not to mention the 2nd and 3rd gen ‘i’ processors do have alot of potential left untaped to begin with
So even a mild OCs can be in the region of 200-500 mhz higher than intel turbo clock. Then mid level OC’s go from 500 to 800 mhz, and top level OCs are around 800mhz +
Almost any1 with a mid range air cooler can manage a mild OC with ease ..its usualy just a Multiplier tweek.
Mid level OC’s r the most common and they requir slightly better cooling and voltage tweeks.
Top end OC’s are bassicaly for those who use Top of the range air cooling and mid/top end water cooling and tweek everything within the bios to get core clocks as high as, and higher, than 5ghz.

Dont use preset OC’s. They usualy pump for more volts than required to reach the OC it sets and thus creates alot fo heat. Do it yourself manualy and u can reach better OC’s.
You dont HAVE to hit 4.5ghz but if you want 30+ fps all the time you really need it at minimum. I run my cores at 4.6ghz and dont fall below 30 ..but it does hit exactly 30 often (granted alot of the times its due ot my GPU bottlenecking not my cpu. .but still).
Now my cpu is a sandybridge so if you have a 3570k ivybridge 4.5ghz should be the equivalent. I know 4.5ghz can be hard to reach on ivybridge without a top end air cooler however.

In that case so long as you OC it to as close as u can or above 4.5ghz You should be able to play GW2 without dropping below 30fps, asuming u keep the graphics settings set for your GPU (medium/high)

Perfectly Fine. However…
If you intend to fight in WvW you really will need to OC that CPU ..in which case it will have to be a 3570K not just a 3570.
If you have no intention to play WvW then you should be fine, you may find LionArch a bit unbarable when it gets busy but other than that you should be ok.
OK so minimum for WvW. Well tbh the minimum is the same as the recommended, which is the same as the best possible.
Why ? ..becouse 30 fps is the minimum playable fps considered by most game reviewers, benchmarkers, and proper gamers in general, and also happens to be the best minimum fps you are likely to get even with the best cpu’s out atm. So…
Minimum/Recommended
Amd FX 8350 with OC
Intel 2nd/3rd gen i5 with OC
The AMD will drop below 30 fps but tis the best option you have with AMD.
The Intel’s will allow 30 fps as the minimum u see in WvW if you OC to around 4.5ghz +
As for the rest of the computer well. Minimum would be
GPU: Integrated Intel HD 4000. Low settings and you should be ok.
RAM: 4gb, Anythign less and you risk ‘out of memory’ crashes.
OS: Windows, any version so long as its 64bit due to memory allocation.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Do you actually mean LAG ? as in its true meaning? (high latency/ping causing delayed response)
Or do you mean ‘low fps’ ..meaning stuttery, juddering display ?
If its actualy LAG your getting then that is likely an issue with ur ISP or modem/router.
If its FPS issues then see what Kirito linked
Just flip the scoreboard upside down. Someone killing toys wasn’t building defenses and we all know thats how you win toypocalpse.
Bassicaly what he siad
Flip the scoreboard.
I usualy come out with a score betwen 4 and 10 myself since, during the 1st wave atleast, u need to, at minimum, stun and knockback toys from the dolyaks whilst your limited defense chip away at them.
The non ti 660 would more likely be a downgrade imo. Specialy if your current 560ti is a OC’d version. a 560ti is enough for GW2 tbh, the only meaningfull upgrade form the 560ti would be a 670 or even 680. I persoanly am watiting on the 700 series or amd 8000 series before upgrading becouse i wont find the jump in performance worth the price tag if i do it now with the current generation of GPU’s.
You 560ti WILL be runing at 100% usuage in areas once you upgrade your CPU so bare that in mind. I run one myself ..granted is heavily OC’d ..but even that maxes out..but i still manage to keep fps in ALL areas of GW above 30 with next to max graphcis settings (no supersampling)
The differnece between the 3570k and 3770k is the hyperthreading, it will show very little if any impact on GW2, what matters most is the OC, u wanna try get it as close to or above 4.5ghz to be able to stay above 30 fps in populated areas of GW2.
If your budget is tight i recommened getting the 3570k , spending the saved money on a 120gb SSD and getting the top of the line air Cooler (Notcua NH-D14) or if u so wish ..go water cooling and get the Corsair H100. That will allow you to OC higher, or have the same OC as on the Coolmaster 412s but with lower temperatures.

I would honestly drop 1 SSD, You will not notice (in gaming) the difference between a single SSD and 2 in raid. The difference between a mechanical HDD and a Single SSD you will love ..trust me. So dont worry about raid0.
I would not get a 690, 2 main reasons.
1)Some games have issues with sli, if u disable sli and run on 1 of the 690’s cores you are effectivly running a downclocked 680 gpu which is slower, iirc, than a 670. Not to mention there are some peculiar issues that can come up with dual gpu cards.
2) You can spend the same amount of money that the 690 costs to get 2x 680’s and SLI them(which give better performance), that way if a game doenst like sli, u can disable it and still get the very good performance of a single fully fledged 680.
Droping down to single 120gb SSD would likely not save you enough money to go from a single 660ti to 2x 680’s or even a single 690 ..so i presume u have more money spare :P what ever the case, dont get a single 690 ..not unless u have seriose thoughts of getting 2 690’s in the futur for what would effectivly be quad SLI.
You other choice is to wait till end of Q1 beginning of Q2 next year (around march bassicaly) for the Nvidia 700 series or AMD 8000 series gpu’s which will/should be faster.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Any meaningfull upgrade will requir DDR3 ram anyway. As for PSU, so long as your current one is at minimum 400W you should be ok for a non OC’d system. However you will want to OC so a 600w would be neccesery tbh.
The only AMD cpu worth getting to play GW2 is the FX8350 and ofc it will requir a OC so you would likely need a new mothebroard ram and psu anyway..so mightaswell go Intel.
>.<
ouch that cpu is really gunna be hurting your performance.
I suggest you ether forget about upgrading your graphics card for now and save another $100 or so, so you can buy a new motherboard + Intel CPU + RAM.
Then after that you can look into buying a 560ti, 660ti, 7850, or 7950 GPU when u have some more cash spare.
Or just buy a cheap Nvidia 550ti or AMD 7770 now for a slight inprovment in pve environments, then upgrade ur cpu later to gain the rest of the gpu’s potential.
Is your FX8350 OC’d ?
If it is not, then that is why your fps is tanking in populated areas.
The FX8350 is AMDs best cpu to play GW2 with but it still doesnt compare to a OC’d Intel i5 which is really what u need to play all of GW2 without droping below 30 fps.
However OC’ing the AMD is the only way to get close to that kind of performance. You NEED to have it OC’d if you want better fps. I honestly dont know enough about that specific cpu to tell you what OC it can mange, but basicaly, OC it as far as your cooler allows.
Sorry but Madmardagan is kinda wrong here. (no offence Mad)
WvW battles with GW2 requirs an Intel i5 OC’d to 4.5ghz minimum to stay above 30 fps. .it doesnt matter how powerfull a GPU you have ether.
AMD’s best cpu, the FX 8350, cant even manage this ..though its close. Im afraid your CPU is what is holding you back, its good for its price dont get me wrong, but its single thread performance is not good enough for GW2 compared to Intel’s i5 and i7’s.
The only thing you can do to help is reduce settings that affect your cpu. Like shadows, LOD, and make sure reflections are not set to ‘all’ aswell.
The guy who sold that PC didnt exactly lie ..if he said you can play with High fps ..you can .. in Pve ..but not WvW. And tbh he likely wouldnt know this unless he plays it himself..its not somthing Anet go out of their way to tell retailers.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
The sound of a mechanical harddrive is pirtty obviose tbh. It’s unlkely for him to mistake it for a Fan noise :P
I see no reason why your hard drive should be chugging away so much playing GW2. I mean it should only ‘chug’ when loading things… like maps.
I honestly cant say if its normal now though, i’ve been running GW2 of a SSD for a couple months..and they are silent ..no moving parts.. so unless Anet brought out a patch that makes GW2 constantly load stuff form the HDD, i can only think that maybe you have some kind of software hitch. What though i cannot say.
Post the rest of your Desktop’s specs please. It will help us determin how far its worth you upgrading your graphics card.
It may well be that if you upgrade your grpahics card, it will be held back by the rest of your rig. The fact your running an old 9600gs makes me think you probably running an old Core2Duo or Core2Quad, which means even somthing like a Nvida 460 (which is couple generations old itself) will be held back in GW2.
With that rig you can set all settings to max except the following.
Relfections : Terrain and Sky (you dont need to turn if Off)
Shadows : High (not Ultra)
Sampling : Native
You might be able to set sampling to supersampling, test it out yourself.
Just remember that in LA, WvW battles, And BIG pve events, you will likely drop below 30 fps due to the CPU, but everywhere else should be fine.
Aye what Kirito said is 100% correct.
i will note that $1000 is the starting price for proper gaming laptops, u may get them cheaper if they are on sale but you will be using every penny of that $1000 if u truly want a gaming laptop.
I personaly sugest the following.
CPU: 3720QM, 3820QM, 3630QM ( you bassicaly NEED the best mobile cpu out for GW2, even then you will bottleneck in WvW, so get the best u can, higher the turbo clock the better)
GPU: AMD 7970m, Nvidia 675M, Nvidia 670m, or Nvidia 570m. This will allow u to play on a mixture of Medium & High settings with good fps.
In the end though if you can, i highly sugest a Desktop…but if you absolutly must have Laptop, the above specs would be recommended.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Rule 1) Anet lies
For what we have available in terms of instrument ..that was good.
Its a shame it was made via video editing and hot actually played alltogether in game ..but that would be next to impossible anyway.
Ok so 09c and 124 BSOD’s are fequently seen by OC’ers and indicate that the voltages for the CPU/mothebroard are wrong., usualy to low.
You will have to research yourself the things that go into OCing so u dont balls things up, but bassicaly i susgest u try a small tweek in the VCore, i dont know what cpu u have so i cant give u a end figure, usualy a 0.010 step is fine but agian ..research ur cpu and how to OC it.
Other things to look at are the level of LLC (load line calibration) , i sugest u research what this is.
And finaly it could also mean you need to adjust the voltages within the QPI/VTT ..again check online what these things are and then tweek.
A rig that come with a water cooling system does so for only 1 reason. OC’ing .
Even though your friend may say it isnt OCed.. it ether is ..or Was in the past ..meaning the BIOS settings are likely tweeked and could be causing the issue.
EDIT: Download and run Prime95, do a blend test and set RAM to about 1 or 2 GB’s under your MAX . So 3gb if you have 4gb ..6 if you have 8gb, 14gb if you have 16gb. Leave it rnning for atleats 6 hours. Keep an eye on u temperatures for the 1st 30 minutes, after that u can leave it and go play on a consol, watch Tv, or somthing :P
If an error occurs it will shutdown the thread/task in question, if it BSOD’s ur computer will just restart. Ether of those 2 will indicate a CPU instability.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
No rig out can manage 100 FPS stable in GW2, the engine just isnt efficient enough.
The BEST you can expect is a minimum FPS of 30 in places like LA, and WvW battles. You should be able to do that with ur rig asuming you OC your CPU to 4.5ghz or higiher.
However, even at stock 8fps in LA is to low, CPU matters ..but not as much as in WvW ..so somthing is of. Other than drivers i cant see anythin that could be causing the issue. Have you checked ot make sure the AMD control control center (Cataylst control center) is running GW2 with all settings on ‘let applicaiton decide’ ..making sure its not forcing anyting?
Also check cpu and gpu usage ..i suspect your GPU is not being used much and is probably downlclocked itself. .iv seen this issue before.
Im not familar with your CPU cooler, however i do recommend OC’ing that CPU to as far as u are able to within your cooler’s capability. Hopefully close to 4.5ghz.
If you manage that then you can play GW2 as good as is currently possible. Any stock CPU out currently will cause your fps to drop below 30 in WvW battles, this is why OC’ing is required.
As for other games you shouldnt have a problem, you may not be able to run max settings on some higher end graphic games currently and those in the future ..im thinking crysis 3..since the 660ti is the lowest of the gaming cards. However it is still a strong GPU so i wouldnt bother spending more on one unless your willing to downgrade on some other parts like the Blueray read/writer and SSD.
Speaking of SSD.
The sugestion to raid 2x 120gb ones is good if you never plan on going any bigger, but ofcourse u also have the choice of just going down to 120gb and saving the money and getting a 670 or 680 GPU instead of the 660ti which is what i would do tbh, or even get a AMD 7970 (if your ok with doing without PhysX).
A single 120gb SSD is enough to store your OS and 2-4 games depending on their size, you want to leave roughly 25% of free space on the SSD to keep the performance up.
EDIT: Change the RAM to 2×8gb modules with timing of 9-9-9(CL9) if u can. Your CPU runs Dual channel not Quad.
Anet has to be very carefull what content they put into their game that even hints to said possibilities due to the countless prudes in existance that would go all up in arms about it being in a game that kid’s can and do play.
So if there is any exampels in the game, they are likely hidden or at the very least present in places that are not frequented by players.
Bassicaly the invisible player issue is not somthing we as players can fix. Thats server side and its called ‘culling’ leave it at that.
As for your lag issues. That is most likely down 1 of 2 things(or both). Your ISP ..or your modem/router settings. And im afraid im am not knowledgable enough on ether to be able ot help there.. the best i can advise is to contact your ISP and explain the issue, hopefully be able to get into the situation whilstn on the phone ot them so they can see in real time what is happening.
Indeed You GPU is your weak link, and it will be what is causing your FPS to drop.
The problem with the 690 is that its a dual gpu card. They tend to have issues somtimes with games that dont like SLI. GW2 is one such game.
Its likely not taking full advantage of both gpu;s and as such ur likely getting the performance equal to 1 gpu (note im NOT saying ur only getting performance FROM 1 gpu). And since the 690 gpu’s are downclocked 680 gpu’s ..ur 670 (which was probably a OC’d version) would likely give better performance as not only was it betetr utilized, but if OC’d had the performance of a stock clocked 680 ..which is better than a single 690 core.
I hope im wrong becouse i know how much those 690;s cost. I have always made sure not to buy dual core gpu’s tbh, to many issues.
I ‘would’ rather have 2x 680’s than a single 690. Not only becouse its faster benchmark wise, it also means that when somthing like this happens, i could turn SLI off and still get the performance of a single OC’d 680.
The only time i would buy a dual gpu card is if i was going t run 2 of them thus equal to quad (4x) Sli.
Ofcurse it also possible you just happen to be at the limit of what your 2500k can produce at 4.5ghz. I mean u cant get the minimum fps of 30 in WvW much higher once u reach 4.5ghz.. u can try 5ghz but i doubt it would give much more .maybe 5 fps ..10 if ur really really lucky.
$200-$300 is more than enough to upgrade thatCPu to a i5 or even an i7.
I would recommend getting a i5 ether a 2550k or 3570k (your current motherboard IS compatable) then also buy a high performance air cooler like the Noctua NH-D14 and OC the cpu to around 4.5ghz possibly higher if u get the 2550k.
Any spare cash left over u can save for when u have more money spare for a new Graphics card. The 7770 is perfectly fine for GW2 but i will bottleneck on high settings.
With that cpu, so long as u keep the Graaphics setting low enough to stop the GPU form bottlenecking, you can play WvW and not drop below 30 fps.
On the topic of OC’ing, if u find your mothboard does not have the capability to OC very well. (which tbh i dont know much about ASrock motherboards) then that spare money u have left over should be enough to buy a good Asus or Gigabyte motherboard.

Monthly DOES count.
I got my title after i completed the Black citidel Tixx dungeon i beleve it was.
Bassicaly i got it at the earliest possible time u could get it.
2 monthly’s + 10 of the achievments under the special event tab.
There were then another 4 achievments left to get, 2 other cities and 2 for toypocalypse.
So 16 possible (14 under the special event tab + 2 monthly)
I cant comment on the possible 1 extra form talking to Tixx in LA as i cant see any increase in my already completed Title achievment bar.
Completed it wihtout loosing a dolyak 4 times in a row wihtout any need for any1 in group to communicate.
Things will get easier as time goes on as more and more people learn how to be effective. it isnt hard. .have patience.
The decision to nerf the achievment is bad 1, obviosly ,,but Anet wil ldo as they please ..those of us who got the achievment before the nerf have that atleast..feel sorry for people who get it after the nerf ..isnt exactly an achievment at that point…but im sure they could just keep doing it til lthey complete it wihtout loosing a dolyak as an unoffical achiemvent for themselves..
Yea i use the skrit myself. Atleast 2 , by which poitn a couple other players have noticed and usualy get 1 or 2 themselves.
My last completion we had 5 skrit along with enough turrets to take down a dragon lol. The skrit do indeed help ..but only get them after u have a stable defence going ..becouse 3 scrap slavage can be used much better building 3 balista’s at the start.
Since my 1st completion i have done it another 3 times one after the other in different groups without loosing a single dolyak AND wihtout any1 in group saying a word.
Its obviosly getting easier as time goes by as more and more people learn how to play effectivly.
Why Anet see’s fit to nerf the achievment, to make it even easier, i dont know. I seriosly cant fathom their mindset somtimes .
Every group i;ve been in we pritty much ignor walls for the most part ..we do build a couple here and there at the start to help keep certain dolyaks that the toy s ike going after out of harms way but mainly we just build a load of balista’s , snowmen , and catapults.
No need for special tactic like walling of certain areas ..build enough turrets and the toys dont get a chance to get near the dolyaks :P
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
All this talk is now irrelivant .Anet are making the achievment EZ mode now .. All u need do is complete it with 1 dolyak surviving which is rediculusly easy no matter what group u have.
TY Anet for turning what was a worthy achievment to nothing more than footnote.
WHAT ?!
You cant change the friggin achievment now -.-
keeping 1 alive is to easy.
EZ Mode nerfs again i c .. for crying out loud …
Anet.
NICE ONE !!
This is a fun event, its hard at the start but great once u get going and once everyone knows what to do it gets much easier. I would very much like to see somthing like this again in game
At the start.
Wave 1 Build as many ballista and snowmen on the out ring.
By wave 2 start building walls, catapults, Upgrade ballista and snowmen building out form the outer ring in 3 areas by the ramps (like 3 outer camps of defenses)
By wave 3 Build more ballista and snowmen., joining the 3 camps thus making a new outer ring of defense. Upgrade catapults
By wave 5 build everything/upgrade u should be pritty set and things should be easy from this point. Build moreon the new outer ring ..start spreading defense out further.
Bassicaly by the end of wave 3 u should no longer have to use ur weapons to kill stuff, ur defenses should be taking care of it. And by wave 5 the toy’s should not be getting to ur dolyaks at all.
The Boss: Pull him away from ur defenses/dolyaks. have 2 people attacking him for aggro and 1 building a few minor defesnes near him to help kill it. The other 2 people can carry on building defenses.
This is what worked for the gorup i completed it with. We had no problems doing it this way.
Took me a handfull of attempts to find a group that worked well together ..got the achievment wihtout any problems. By wave 3 we had an impenitrable defense and the dolyaks were never touched after that.
So ong as u keep the boss away from ur defenses u dont need ot owrry about it destroying them all.
By the time i finished we had defense everywhere on the map ..the toys spawned and split up and were demolished.
Its like any Tower Defense game ..hard at the start ..alot easier as u get a foothold.
For WvW you would want a good CPU, 2nd gen or higher intel core i5/i7. This should be your first priority before getting a GPU upgrade. Large scale battles in WvW rely very heavily on CPU power.
Get the best CPU on this list you can afford

(2500k, 3570k are popular ones. Get K version to overclock)For GPU get something with score higher than 3k on this list.

(7850, 7870, 660, 660ti, 670 are popular ones)You didn’t list your PSU, but 500W+ should be fine.
Its so much easier when Kirito beats me to a post :P
Bassicaly….. everything he said :P
You can play GW2 without any problems if u OC that CPU to as close as 4.5ghz as u can. Its an Ivybridge so 4.5ghz on mid range air cooler may be out of reach due ot heat but 4.3ghz should be fine.
That would allow u to play WvW without ur fps droping to low. If u can get it to 4.4ghz or 4.5ghs i suspect 30 fps will be ur minimum in major wvw battles.
On stock though u will still see low FPS (sub 30) in large WvW battles.

My point was ur Xeon u were using back then was at 2.66ghz. thats slow.
Those newer Xeon’s on that list are indeed powerfull ..but they are also more powerfull than the one u had , and would likely run GW2 well if they can also OC.
So no it doesnt invalidate my argument becouse the Xeon in question was from back in 2008 when they had slow per core lock speeds. -.-
An intel i5 with OC giving 45 fps stable in WvW is indeed an exageration ..or giving the benefit of doubt ..said person hasnt been in a major WvW battle and thus not seen how far fps will actually drop.
However a i5 OC’d to 4.5ghz+ will be able to stay above 30 fps if the GPU can also keep up.
A FX 8350 will not do this BUT it is the only AMD i ever recommend since it can come close.
If a person is running a AMD rig and wants to upgrade just the CPU and the motherboard is capable of fitting the FX 8350 ..it is the logical choice.
If however that person has the extra cash to also change the motherboard ..then the only real choice is to switch over to an Intel i5 and OC. Specialy if its for playing GW2 mainly, and other current games. The FX 8350 may well be a better choice if u do professional work frequently aswell as gaming ..ether that or an i7.
Ofcourse there will always be the so called ‘fanboys’ on both sides claiming this and that ..and tbh is all just hearsay.
