Yea as much as ‘fanboys’ ..on both sides ..like to argue ..its always a good idea to find the real facts ..sites like the one i linked are good for that. it is what i use to advise people on what hardware to use. Which makes it funny when some people pull the ‘fanboy’ argument against me when i say dont go AMD :P
Anyway with all ur fans going hopefully any thermal throttling that was happening has stoped and u will get better fps ..however u will still drop below 30fps as i said before ..its just that now u should atleast be able to PvE with good fps most the time.
no that fluctuation is normal.
Turn reflections to terrai and sky.
And shadows to high.
That helps reduce the fluctuation. But it will always be there.
One way to help get around it ..specialy in LA .. is when u loadu p ..spin ur camera around onceo r twice ..it wil lthen load everything up and u shouldnt see it fluctuate again in that area.
its got somthing to do with the way GW2 loads stuff up, anything out of view (behind the camera) isnt loaded till u want to see it (turn the camera) ..then it stays loaded untill ur way out of sight of it.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
yea this is what MMO’s do, they take a beast of a computer and then laugh at it :P
I can keep my fps abvoe 30 in all areas in all situations ..even WvW battles. However i had to OC my cpu to 4.6ghz to do it.
I dont run supersampling, i run reflections on terrain and sky, and shadows on high not ultra ..and at 1920×1080. rest of settings r maxed. 60hz Vsync
LA averages 45 fps, lowest is 30 and only in 1 specific place looking in 1 specific direction which no1 ever stands at :P
WvW depending on the size of the battle can be anything from 60fps down to 30fps..but usualy in medium siszed battles i get around 45fps or more. Only the really really big battles drop me down to 30, and thats usualy down to my GPU hiting 99% usuage due to the effects.
PvE is usualy a constant 50-60 fps including fluctuations.
OP i think your just gunan have to get sued ot the fact that although GW2 doesnt look or feel as good as some SP or Multiplayer games out their like First person shooter and such …it does requir massive amounts of power to keep performance up .specialy the ones that for reason unknown to any1 ,,run an outdated yet highly modified DX9 Engine.
CPU bottleneck.. AMD is a bad choice when upgrading for GW2 ..the only AMD cpu u should even consider is the FX 8350 …even that however will drop below 30 fps in many areas.
However ..giving it the benefit of the doubt ..that fps does still seem low for that setup .. i sugest u try different drivers.
Also ..did u do a full clean install ..or transfer over ur OS and game ?.
Th following link u should use to decide on a CPU for GW2, anything above about 1800 score and OC’able would do.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
GW2 doesnt like SLI, some ppl have got it to work but havnt got much extra performance out of it compared to a single gpu ..so i would sugest not having/using SLI.
the main issue u have though is your CPU. GW2 will only run well with a 2nd/3rd gen Intel i5K or better with an OC to around 4.5ghz or higher.
that will make sure u never drop below 30 fps (LA & WvW battles) and will give u an ‘average’ of around 45 fps in LA, and 60+ in PvE.
Not great figures compared to games like BF3 and what not ..but this is GW2 :P
EDIT; CPU ‘load’ irrelivant ..GW2 will never use 100% cpu and will bottleneck b4 100% utilization ..its bottleneck occures on the single thread level ..which isnt shown accuratly by the windows performance monitor.
GPU ‘load’ will not be 100% becouse its being held back by the CPU.
Anything above 3500 score will let you play max settings.
Once again Kirito makes it easier for me to reply :P
+1 to what Kirito said bassicaly.
I sugest you OC your CPU to as close to 4.5ghz as u can . So long as u have a aftermarkt cooler ..like the Coolmaster Evo 212 (its not expensive) ..or the top of the line Noctua NH-D14 (is expensive and HUGE) then u shouldnt have a problem getting close to that target.
With that OC and ether of those 2 GPU’s u could run on Max settings and get 30+ fps no matter where u go or what the game throws at u. If u dont OC ..u will drop below 30 fps in places like WvW and LA.
@Sojo.
No my cpu fan doesnt even speed up playing GW2 since my overall usuage is on average less than 30% and thus the heat doesnt increase much..since i have a 3930k it has 6core 12 threads ..Gw2 only fully utilizes 4 threads. But my per thread performance like any other cpu will max out in WvW. Hence why it drops to 30 fps. the only reason it doesnt go lower is becouse of my OC.
When u get into a proper Wvw battle i garuntee u will see much lower fps than 100
…its also alot ofkittennwith that many peopel playing. If however on the off chance u manage to get into a bit WvW battle and still have say 60+ fps ..i will be very very interested in seeing a video of that along with ur overall PC specs ..becouse that would be somthing to see
..and investigate
@ Raven
i went from a QX6850 3.66ghz , 4gb DDR2 ram and a 560ti.
to
My rig in my sig.
So the GPU was the same ..my fps however went from sub 10 fps in WvW to on average 45+ (30 minimum). PVE , LA and events also tripled or more the FPS.
It is most deffinatly the CPU.
Ok ill put it this way. Would u rather have
a) 60 fps average 20fps minimum
or
b) 55 fps average 30fps minimum.
I know most would go for (b) for ‘smoothness’.
Hence the average and minimum ..or just minimum.
i know the average includes the minimum ..but if u just say .. 40 fps average ..u have no idea whether the minimum is 39 or 5 .
Anyway going oftopic here now lol.
Ok fair enough 5 -15 man skirmashes i can imagin wouldnt be a problem. I have my FPS capped and im alway stuck at 60 fps in small skirmishes like that, and my 560ti is unlikely to be able to hit 100 fps on the settings i use anyway ..so yea ok ..thats cool
Not even the best commercialy available Desktop PC OC’d can manage 40 fps minimum in WvW battles ..theres no way a laptop with a 3610QM CPU can.
:)
It is always best ..if ur giving an average fps figure ..to also give the minimum ..and maybe in what circomstance said minimum occurs ..to give a better picture of what som1 can expect.
Sojournion, simply entering WvW and moving the camera around is no way to test FPS… when we mention WvW we give a proper minimum fps number when in battle. .not when sitting alone.
As it stands today no computer commercialy available is able to do much better than 30 fps minimum. Most drop well below 30 fps specialy if they r not OC’d.
I do not doubt the 680 can manage 100+ fps in pve and when standing alone, but there is no way a 3.5ghz i7 can manage 100 fps in WvW battles, its just not possible.
Anyway i dont intend this to be a ‘big’ moan , but it is a hassle when people spread flase/inaccurate/unintended information around.
Still ur recomendation is sound
Indeed… the Asura r easier due to having less camera issues. There size is irrelivant jump wise beoucse all races/sex can jump the same distance.
And as people have stated u dont need to see where your character actually is all the time. This wintersday JP is nothing even if ur constantly under a norn or char. The halloween one was much more challenging ,,but even that got easy after enough completions.
People need to stop making excuses for simply being bad ..or not so good ..at jumping puzzles… its nothing to be ashamed about ..untill u start moaning about the JP being wrong in some way shape or form ..then ur just in denial and look rather pathetic.
I have both the 460 and the 560ti.
I can tell u that both will play GW2 with high settings. The 560ti though will handle it better. (Excluding: Supersampling, Full reflections, Ultra shadows ..these are all ether bugged and/or have massive performance hits)
However i should point out that with GW2, the CPU is most important, if i didnt have my CPU OC’d to 4.5ghz or above , i might aswell be running the equivalent to an integrated GPU (my cpu doesnt actually have one) ..becouse the 460 or 560ti would be being held back alot.
Unless u have a 2nd/3rd gen Intel i5 or better OC’d to 4.5ghz or above, you WILL drop below 30fps no matter what settings or GPU u have, in places like WvW and LA.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
In a word. ‘no’.
In a laptop u will want to find one with the following specs to play GW2 on a mixture of medium & high settings with 30+fps in all but LA and WvW.
CPU: These or better
3840QM
3820QM
3740QM
3720QM
3630QM
GPU: These or better
Nvidia 560m
Nvidia 470m
AMD 6870m
this usualy means spending between $1000 and $2000. So i hope u have enough.
You only other choice is building a desktop of which u can get the same performance or better for between $600-$1000.
Will it ‘run’ the game ..yes.
Will u be able to ‘play’ the game ..probably not.
The performance u get wil be terrible.
Yea it was long shot that it would fix the issue. But its still a kitten good idea to keep the inside of ur case clean. The amount of dust in those pics will be causing some issues with heat even if temps are still within the ‘ok’ zone.
But yea it was unlikely to fix the issue.
I do hope a new PSU helps ..its one of the less expensive parts of a computer to replace to fix a hardware issue :P ..well…depending on how much u spent on the computer in the in the first place :P
For around $370 u can get a
Intel 3rd generation i5 3570k + Asus or Gigabyte Motherboard + 8gb 1600mhz RAM + Aftermaret Cooler. Then you OC it to as close to 4.5ghz as u can.
Thats the core of the computer sorted.
Then you just need to decide how high u wanna go on the GPU.
Ether
Low end like a AMD 7770 or Nvidia 550ti, (~$100)
Mid range like a 460,560ti,650ti, 660ti, AMD 7850. (~$100-$260)
High end like a nvidia 670, AMD 7950 ($300-$400)
Or Top range like a Nvidia 680 or AMD 7970 ($470-$570)
All these GPU’s will run GW2 with good FPS aslong as u get the graphcis settings accordingly.
Then ofcourse if u need them. A Case and powersupply (~$150 for both)
With a rig including these parts u can play GW2 wihtout droping below 30fps ever (so long as u keep settings set according to the GPU u decide on)
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
FYI.
If you go with the 7950, u will loose the ability to run PhysX nativly. since its a Nvidia thing.
If u play games with PhysX and still want it, then u can run it by using an old Nvidia graphics card(a 460 or 560ti would be good) along with the AMD 7950.
There is a custom patch that will install the drivers, files, and registry values needed to make it work.
ill be doing this myself if i end u going AMD when the new graphics cards are released.
Lions Arch will at it worst possible place, drop to 30 fps no matter what GPU u have ( even with a highly OC’d cpu i might add). However by say,,, the mystic forge,,, u should be able ot get 40-45fps. Atleats thats what i get.
So asuming u have your CPU OC’d, you should be able to play Gw2 as good as can be done currently. I.E minimum fps u wil lever see if 30..and thats in LionsArch & WvW battles.
If you find your GPU is maxing out in places, turn reflections from full to terian and sky and turn shadows to high not ultra. Also if u have supersampling on ..put it to native. Howeveri hink the 680 should be able to handle those on max.
I dont even think DDR3 RAM will fit in ur motherboard. You will likely need DDR2, and dispite being worse than DDR3 ..they are more expensive.
If you get urself up to 4gb and upgrade to 64bit OS, the out of memory issues should stop completly.
I Highly sugest saving ur money though and upgrading your rig completly though. Its well out of date for a gaming rig, and even without the out of memory crashes, your performance must be terrible.
Your system REALLY needs a full upgrade.
A gaming rig needs keeping up to date every2 to 4 years depending on how high performance the parts were at the start of its life.
Yours is welll past its life. It doesnt cost much to build a new computer. If you want to go all out to play GW2 as good as it can be then $1000 would do. Which isnt much in the computer gaming world.
If you want a new computer than can run GW2 good .but not at its best, then maybe $500-700 would do it.
Anything less and its not really going to be a gaming rig.
Indeed thats odd. If ur running reflection on max turn them to terrain and sky ..if that works i sugest u leave it like that becouse nearly every1 runs reflections ether off or on terrian and sky becouse when its on max the performance hit is massive ..to the point most think its a bug.
EDIT: forgot to post link to the pictures: http://imgur.com/a/JjnaG#0
Wow erm ..DUST man.. DUST that kitten thing, there’s so much dust there a BSOD could be being caused by a short due to the amount of dust.
I cant say i can see anything in those BIOS pics that sticks out as being wrong.
I think ill stick wiht my inital thought.
Take that thing apart , give it a good clean, put it back together and cross ur fingers. Ether the cleaning or the ‘reseating’ may fix ur issue.
The most dust u should ever see in a computer case is a little line along the leading edge of fans, and on intake filters if ur case has them. When dust starts settling along surface ..specialy the graphics card ..its past time to clean it.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
I advise a 660ti or AMD 7950.
Both roughly same price, but iirc the 7950 is faster with the latets drivers.
So its down to personal preference ..Red ro Green team.
If you wanan go up on the cost then its a chocie between the Nvidia 670 and AMD 7950/7970. The 7970 is faster but a little more pricey.
If u really wanna go costly then get the 680 which is about the same as the AMD 7970.
Dont bother looking at the nvidia 690 or Aftermarket 7990 since SLI and GW2 dont mix well wiht dual gpu cards,, they work ..but 2x 680’s or 2x 7970’s would work better.
On ur budget ur probably looking at a choice between a Lower end Nvidia 670 and the AMD 7950. I would go with the 7950. Becuose you could get a good aftermarket modlel and OC the hell out of it. The 670 you would be limited to a cheaper make and likely couldnt OC it as much. End result being the 7950 would outperform it.
Make sure u buy a good aftermarket coolerl ike the Coolmaster Evo 212 or Noctua NH-D14 for your CPU and OC it as close to 4.5ghz or above as u can. FYI if u get/got the Noctua NH-D14 cooler, u will need ot change from Corsair to G.Skill RAM as most of corsairs RAM is to tall.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
If you do buy a new laptop, your looking at between $1200 and £2000 for one that could handle GW2, even then it would likely drop below 30 fps in heavy areas like Lions Arch and WvW.
A desktop on the other hand can be made roughly $1000 and could play Gw2 to the best current tech can do atm.(30 fps minimum everywhere)
A 2nd/3rd generation Intel i5 K would be perfectly fine for GW2. so would a 670 GPU.
The novatech link looks good but the CPU is not a K version which means No OC’ing. if they would change some things, try get them to put a K version of the cpu in, its more expensive but worth it(or to ofset the price go down to a i5 3570 but a K version). Also find out what cpu cooler they will use, the Coolmaster Evo212 is relativly cheap and good for OC’ing. The 660 will do but tbh i would try for the 660ti.
All this talk about OC’ing is becouse GW2 requirs atleats a 4.5ghz OC to not drop below 30fps.
Basscialy i will be building a computer for my old man (dad) later this year, and what u r looking at with those modification i sugest is what ill be building him(more or less), and it will cost a little under £1000. it will run GW2 as good as can be done asuming its OC’ed.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Download a GPU usuage monitoring program . Find out how much work your gpu is doing to run at ur current FPS on low settings.
if its not maxing out, then u can safely say a CPU upgrade WOULD increase ur performance.
use this link to decide on which CPU u upgrade to. Higher the better
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
Just make sure which ever cpu u get that it has atleast 4 threads ..it can be 2core 4 thread if u like ,,but would be better if its 4 core 4 thread. Also if it hasa turbo feature ..take that clock speed as its highest.
So say ur comparing 2 cpu’s both 4core 4 thread.
(A) is 2ghz
(B) is1.9ghz ..
BUT (A) does NOT have turbo (B) DOES and goes to 2.8ghz.
(B) is the better of the 2.
With only 2gb of RAM is highly likely the rest off his rig isnt up to scratch.
You cant upgrade 90% of laptops out there ..unless its been designed to be upgraded ..that usualy means its a gaming laptop and costs a bit. From what u’ve described its unlikely your laptop was ever concidered a gaming laptop even when it was released.
With that said, i sugest you start saving. if you have to have a laptop and not a desktop you are looking to have to save up between $1200 and $2000 for somthing that could handle GW2, it still wont run GW2 as fast as it can be on a desktop, but it will be the best u can expect on a laptop..even then u will drop below 30 fps in Lions Arch (city) and World vs World vs World pvp.. . PvE though should be nice and smooth and on high settings.
If you can change to a desktop PC then your looking at probably $1000-$1200. For a case, everythign inside it, keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers. And that wil run GW2 pritty much as good as current commericaly available tech can atm.
We need your specs, the one your computer gives u not some that may be listed online.
if your GPU is integrated or a low end media card like the 310m, then expect to be put on low settings.
if your CPU isnt up to date AND fast, then u will have major bottlenecks in busy areas like Lions Arch, cities, WvW and Big Pve Events.
laptop wise you would need one of the following CPU’s to get ‘good’ performance from GW2.
3840QM
3820QM
3740QM
3720QM
3630QM
Anything less and bottlenecking will occure pritty much everywhere to some degree.
Much less and expect really bad performance.
GW2 uses a highly modified version of GW1’s engine thus it uses DX9. Becouse of this most the performance comes from the CPU, and is limited to single thread performance..its not very efficient tbh and requirs a heavy duty gaming cpu with an OC to keep fps above the gaming standard of 30FPS. This means laptops have an even harder time due to limitations ot OC’s and the general slower speed of mobile CPU’s.
Asuming you havnt OC’d your rig, it should not ever overheat unless u urself have done somthing to hamper its cooling performance.
Clean the intakes/outlets, clean the heatsink/fans. And you should be fine.
Your digital copy is registered with your account. Log into your account and simply click ‘download client’.
A Nvidia 660ti would be perfectly fine for GW2 on High settings.
However the places u currently see performance tank..like LionArch and WvW ..will still be just as bad, since that is being caused by your CPU.
To stop said ‘tanking’ of performance GW2 requirs a 2nd/3rd gen Intel i5 K CPU or better with a OC of around 4.5ghz or higher. At which point, asuming ur GPU can handle it, you wont see FPS drop below 30 ever. ( CPU+Motherboard+Cooler = ~$370)
Indeed WvW wont be an option for your rig even with the gpu upgrade.
I concure that a GPU upgrade over a RAM one would be best, but i have to stress that your CPU is a MAJOR bottleneck. In places u will likely not see any performance increase even with a new GPU.
GPU wise i would get ether a
Worse:AMD 7770/Nvidia 550ti,
……………:AMD 5870/6870,
Better:Nvidia 460, Nvidia 650ti,
CPU wise if u have to stay AMD get the FX 8350….otherwise i highly sugest getting a Intel 2nd/3rd Gen i5 K.
You likely wont see much of a differnece if u get anything else tbh.
Indeed i would do a fully clean install of W7 64bit.
Clean installs are always best, trying to trasnfer things over even if itsn ot the OS (i.e programs and games) can have unexpected results.
On another note. Dont get tempeted and go Windows 8, its still to new and has compatability issues, not to mention the UI sucks :P
Its ether a bug or Anet removed the reward becouse its to easy to get/farm.
Which would mean they are admitting that the Wintersday JP is indeed to easy and farmable :P
I’m goign out in a few mins so i dont have time to explain eveyrthing about GW2 and the way it uses the CPU, and why other games cant be compared to GW2.
However i can sugest u take a gander through the tech support forum as i have explained it b4 to other people. So has Kirito. ..or u can just take my word on it :P
Oh and here’s the link to the R.A.T MMO 7
http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/mmo.htm
It comes in the stock color u see there (Matt black & orange)
Also in
Gloss Black
Gloss White
Gloss Red
Personaly i hate gloss on mouses, since if/when u get swetty hands its like holding onto a bar of soap and/or feels horrible and sticky. Matt does not.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
Dreamer.
When i was building my rig months ago i also looked at the website u linked. However out of the 4 i used it was the most expensive. I Sugest u look at:
Novatech.co.uk
Dabs.com
Scan.co.uk
Novatech is the best as delivery tends to be free with expensive items. And if u buy enough and spend enough..if u get in contact with them via email they might be able to sort u out a custom deal with the price.
Do build it urself, as u will likely save money and/or get better parts.
if you HAVE to chose form thosel inks though i would highly recomened getting the Titan 8900i as it has a pre OC’d CPU to what u need for 30 fps minimum in WvW, and a good GPU.
Erm..i beleve i pointed out that OC’ing would help wiht the FPS.
Its not an ‘extreme’ sugestion ..or hard. just make sure u have a OC’able cpu and a good aftermarket cooler and ur set to OC. Most motherboards allow it, so its unlikely u would have an issue there. The rest is knowledge of how to do it ..which can easily be found online.
(Same reply asi gave u in other post)
In WvW its not possible to get 40 fps as the minimum even on a desktop. The highest minimum fps u can aim for is 30 fps with a desktop.
This is NOT possible with a laptop, since u cant OC the cpu.
That said, the best u can do is aim for a high stock clock speed. I recommend the following CPU’s for laptops.
3840QM
3820QM
3740QM
3720QM
3630QM
As for graphics, ether get a 470m,570m,or 660m (or AMD equivalent) for medium settings and OK fps.
or
Get the 680m or 7970m for High settings and good fps.
Do NOT get any in between as the tiny performance increase over the 660m,570m,470m, for the price they cost ..is not worth it (i.e 670m,675m /AMD equivs)
Note: A laptop that can run GW2 well will cost ALOT , so be prepaired.
EDIT: since in this post u put a price… i would highly sugest NOT buying a laptop at this moment ..u wont get the performanceu want form a $600 laptop. You would need at minimum double that price..at most triple.
O i didnt mean to sugest people ‘cant’ play WvW. Its just alot of people play it with sub 30 fps. I couldnt stand that personaly..its bad enough putting up with 30 fps when battles get large enough..thanfully if u have a 2nd//3rd gen i5+ CPU OC’d to 4.5ghz+ u dont see fps close to 30 very often, its more likely to be around 45 which although not perfect, is alot better.. but the MINIMUM u would see would be 30 in really heavy battles.
101 BSOD’s are again even more widely seen when OC’ing and only ever points to one thing Vcore to low.
Although the bios is on default i still think it might be worth giving the CPU Vcore a boost.
In one of my last posts i mentioned downloadinga nd runnign Prime 95 ..have u done that ? ..if not do try it becouse if it fails that then its even more evidence to sugest somthing is amiss with ur bios settings.
EDIT: Download and run Prime95, do a blend test and set RAM to about 1 or 2 GB’s under your MAX . So 3gb if you have 4gb ..6 if you have 8gb, 14gb if you have 16gb. Leave it rnning for atleats 6 hours. Keep an eye on u temperatures for the 1st 30 minutes, after that u can leave it and go play on a consol, watch Tv, or somthing :P
If an error occurs it will shutdown the thread/task in question, if it BSOD’s ur computer will just restart. Ether of those 2 will indicate a CPU instability.
(edited by SolarNova.1052)
1st of all, you running a laptop, and its not exactly top of the range so “I am running a fairly decent setup so that is not to blame” isnt somthing u can say. Sorry but its true (specialy for GW2)
Ok now.
Try using Nvidia drivers 306.97… the 310.XX drivers have known issues with GW2. Hopefully that fixes any graphical glitches you getting. As for the slow down.
Open up MSConfig (Start menu, search, type msconfig, hit enter) and disable all processes that you dont need running.
Go to the services tab, check hide microsoft services, and disable all but those u need running like Nvidia services, sound services, etc.
Go to the startup tab ..do the same.
This will free up as much RAM and Processor power as possible.
if that doesnt help do the folowing.
Downlaod and Run a CPU and GPU usage monitoring program and let us know the usuage when u have these FPS drops. Also let us know where exactly u are in game when it happens(sound like ur saying its happending everywhere).
Sorry for bumping this thread but I’m having the same issues with the AMD radeon 7870 and i5 3.20Ghz.
My problem is when I enter big area’s where other ‘human’ players are present. Like in Wvw the fps drops form solid 60 to 20 or something. Also L.A. where big events take place is just a pain to play. Glad to see i’m not the only one but I also hear people having 60 fps on wvw which I can’t believe it’s true…Are there any people with AMD gpu’s who can give some advice? I’ve also read the Sticky FAQ but nothing really helped.
Edit: Also setting priority to high in Task Manager, using game booster and enabling gaming mode with Anti virus doesn’t seem to be helping much…
If you are able to, you will need to OC your CPU to get 30fps as the minimum in WvW.
Intel 2nd/3rd gen i5’s and above can handle WvW with 30fps as the minimum, BUT they NEED to be OC’d to as close to or above 4.5ghz.
No stock cpu can keep fps above 30 in WvW battles, and only the CPU’s i mentioned above can do it when OC’d.
3840QM
3820QM
3740QM
3720QM
3630QM

Note: A laptop that can run GW2 well will cost ALOT , so be prepaired.
Terok: Yes PVE will be fine, it should cope well. Its a shame u cant push for the 3720QM, but yea if u are indeed able to upgrade later it wont be a problem.
Xandman: Its not really worth, for GW2 this is, to go dual gpu when u cant OC the processor. The main reason being that a single GPU can and will be bottlenecked by the processor in places like WvW, so you wont get the benifit of those 2 cards.
This is why i always recommend getting the fastest clocked ‘non extreme’ laptop processor availabe. That would be the 3840QM ,,but it costs alot so the 3740QM is the next best thing being 100mhz slower, and the 3720QM 200mhz slower, and the 3630Qm 400mhz slower.
Now for other games like FPS’ers (BF3 CoD etc) dual gpu’s would help.
Well i would not know if it could be upgraded .. usualy Laptops cant be upgraded .but if this ones desinged to be upgraded then thats good.
I use this site to compare GPU performance mainly,
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/
(navigate to high end video card chart)
If i wanna go further into detail i then look for comparison benchmarks.. but as u can see the difference isnt that great between a 660m and a 675m..however a 680 is a big jump ..along with the 7970. I would think the 660m,670m,and 675m would all have GW2 running at medium, the only difference possibly being a few fps.
So if u wanna save money i would go with the 660m tbh. But if u wanna run on high graphics settings with good fps u generaly need a GPU that scores 3000 or above on that chart.
Bassicaly i would say 7970m or 660m, go all the way or save as much money as possible.
Thoughthe information you found about gaming laptops is usualy true…GW2 unfortunatly is an exception to the rule . .CPU is king with GW2 ..not GPU.
Desktop wise GW2 needs an OC’d intel i5 (4.5ghz) to be able to stay above 30 fps in WvW. So you can imagin how next to impossible it is to find a laptop CPU that can do the same ..since u cant really OC.
The best thing u can do is look for a laptop with one of the following CPU’s. Since they are top end,and any laptop with these cpu’s should (if desigined for gaming) have a reasonable GPU as standard.
CPU:
3840Qm
3820QM
3740QM
3720QM
3630QM
The higher the top end clock the better, and has to have a minimum of 4 threads.(Asuming 2nd/3rd gen intel ‘i’ series)
GPU wise… honestly i would go AMD 7970m since it usualy comes cheaper than a 680 by a good margin and offers as good performance. However for GW2 you can go with a 480m, 570m, 660m, ..or the AMD equivalents, they are all roughly equal to each other and should be abe to run GW2 on medium with some high settings and have good FPS. The 670m/mx and 675m/mx are not that much better than the 480m,570m,660m ..so i wouldnt bother spending the extra money unless ur gunna jump to the 680m or 7970m.
Gaming laptops that can run GW2 with good fps and quality wont be cheap ..so be prepaired.
EDIT: i went to that Sager website link and customized that same laptop to what i would look at. Came to a little under $2000.
CPU: 3740Qm
GPU: 7970m
zero dead pixel insurance
W7 home
12gb RAM
IC Diamond thermal compound
Everything else standard.

The MadCatz Cyborg R.A.T MMO7 is the crem dela crem of gaming Mice. Its the most adjustable and customizable mouse out, if u cant make it feel comfortable for ur hand, ur unlikely to find one at all :P
Anyway its rather pricey but i will be getting one soon myself since my current Logitech G5 is wearing out, iv alreayd repaired it once recently.
So yea, take a look at the MadCatz lineup. The Cyborg R.A.T 3, 5, 7, MMO-7, 9
The 9 is wireless, the rest are wired. The 3 is optical, the 5, 7, and 9 are all Laser.
The MMO varient of the 7 has more buttons on the thumb rest.
