An auto-aim would be terrific for the grenade auto-attack. It would take some solid coordination to maintain the aim as you auto-attack and move around without it.
Hopefully there will be an option to turn off the auto-attack with grenades. Unlike firing a pistol or rifle, we have to physically aim the ’nades and having them being tossed non-stop just before we get our target within the targeting circle would be detrimental.
I think the random nature of these secondary abilities makes sense. You already have a guaranteed boost from the primary elixir use, knowing what your secondary does every time could be considered overpowered. Imagine knowing that every time you toss Elixir H you will grant a heal, the dynamic of the Engineer would change and people (I know I would) will stack healing traits to double pot during battle.
In regards to the elite skill, while this may seem like a frustrating mechanic, it allows players to develop their play style to include both transformations. This also makes us less predictable from a PvP point of view.
tl;dr the random nature of some of these abilities makes gameplay more interesting (imho) due to the requirement to adapt to what the elixir brings.
One thing we need to keep in mind is that playing an Engineer like a typical ranged class doesn’t work. It’s so versatile that you need to let go of old habits and keep experimenting. Grabbing two pistols and expecting mega dps won’t necessarily work.
Greetings Engineers!
I am in the process of compiling a list of guides for Engineers. This will be an ongoing project to bring you guys (and myself) as much info as possible about our glorious profession. Please keep in mind that some of these might be / become out-dated as patches are released. I will do my best to keep them as current as possible.
Valid as of 19 Sept 2012.

I suggest getting your experiment on and see what works and what doesn’t. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of information since the game is so new. I wish I could get myself to 80 and help figure these things out before others get the jump on it. Good luck!
So I am having more fun with my Eng now at 72 then I did when I was 20. Why? because I am learning to play the class to it full potential.
Agreed. I am currently level 16 and as I am starting to figure out how the profession works, I am enjoying it more and discovering more survivability while dishing out damage to get mobs dead.
It’s a very different type of character than anything I’ve played in ANY other game so playing it like a typical ranged character will result in player frustration. People need to let go of everything they’re used to when approaching GW2 and learn from scratch!
Must be another bug. Don’t worry, they’ll fix it and you’ll be back to 25 fps in no time.
I lol’d.
+1 I like to play defensively in WvW and support the team, it’d be nice to be rewarded for being a team player vs DPS button-masher.
+1 I’d pay for it too and have spent many a dollar on such changes while playing another MMO that shall not be named.
+1 for alternate builds to swap between. I plan on spending equal time questing and engaging in WvW but I would rather not have to re-distribute my points/skills each time I do one or the other.
That’s pretty cool, I’ll try it out tonight!
This would be funny but Anet would likely get in trouble for insulting players! I’m sure one day I will type /age and then immediately destroy my router.
Yeah at 50% chance for it to destroy the item there’s no way in hell anyone is going to “upgrade” their legendary.
You’d be surprised! Wealthy players or those who enjoy the high risk, high reward would take advantage of such a feature. Imagine getting lucky and fully upgrading a legendary weapon. It really would be legendary, then.
To be fair, Lethlora, I didn’t make any comments about GW2 being a bad game and/or WoW being superior. I come from a different type of game so am trying to understand the intentions behind this one and how people are viewing their experience.
If you actually took the time to read the first few posts, you’d see that we established within this thread that GW2 is a different type of game. The answers I seek is what makes it fun to you all.
Dungeons and Rewards - What ArenaNet can learn from Blizzard, of all people

Great post however there needs to be a fine balance between rewarding hard work and not trivializing gear. Where Blizzard fell short was the trivialization of ‘epic gear’ which has become more common than ‘common’ gear!
Grinding dungeons over and over for upgrades sounds pretty awful. I would like to see the best gear be more about skill than who has the most time to play.
What makes the game fun is an individual thing, LittleBigAsura, and cannot be decided by someone else. While you enjoy fighting to explore, I enjoy simply exploring, chasing vistas and points of interest.
It happens sometimes, and I agree that it’s bizarre. I find that when I strafe while running forward my character slides (I play a human) instead of an actual side-step.
A lot of the people who have rushed to level 80 are WoW players, and are uncomfortable with the mechanics in GW2.
Pretty much this. People burn themselves out rushing to 80 and than complain because they feel like there is nothing to do.
So you’re saying that you should level as slow as possible because there is nothing to do at level 80 because it’s not designed for it. Well, that’s encouraging.
I think the point is that the game is still brand new. As such, it’s unrealistic to expect tons of end-game content when the majority of the game’s population is still progressing at their own pace. The business plan caters to the masses, imo, not the minority who beast through 1-80 with the aim of being #1.
I will try getting all gear equivalent to my character level and try again. I generally stick with groups but every so often I find myself in a 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 situation which is where I notice the difference.
Well that is an interesting thought. Though this might also be exploited as a means of bypassing a lot of enemy mobs…
Very good point. To counter this, you wouldn’t be able to turn off explorer-mode until you returned to a waypoint where you have previously quested.
Really good feedback, thank you everyone. Keep it coming!
It seems the players who don’t like GW2 are the ones who raced to level 80 and were shocked to find no specific end-game content. Most people do forget what WoW was like when it was released. All the classes were majorly flawed and each one had to follow one designated role or be told to gtfo.
Greetings everyone,
I started playing GW2 a few days ago and I must say that the most enjoyable part for me is exploring the world. Finding all the areas, points of interest, vistas and waypoints. However, sometimes I find that I will hit a wall and have to reach a certain level before I can further my exploration. Enter my suggestion:
Explorer Mode. This mode allows you to roam the world regardless of your level. You cannot attack or be attacked by any creatures or participate in dynamic events. The only XP you may earn is from the exploration points.
The devs have drawn a beautiful world and I am enjoying all the visuals thoroughly. I imagine other explorer-minded people could benefit and enjoy such a feature!

I am currently engaged in some WvW but am just getting creamed within a few seconds. Frustrating!
I can understand why WoW players would find GW2 unappealing without giving it a fair chance but I am doing my best to let go of what I’m accustomed to. I also remember how messy WoW was when it was first released, certainly nowhere near as polished as it looks now. GW2 offers a new perspective, one that I’d like to stick with to see how it plays out. Just curious how others are seeing this game, particularly those who have put a few hundred hours into it already.
Greetings everyone,
I have attempted WvW a few times since I started playing GW2 a few days ago and am constantly met with frustration. The server domination issue has been beat to death already so don’t worry, this isn’t one of those threads.
My issue is regarding how characters scale in PvP. My current character is level 15 but when I join in on the wuvwuv action, I am granted an effective level of 80. While this seems like a great solution to allow everyone to play together, my actual contribution is still quite negligible. I do not have many skills unlocked and my gear is tuned for level 15. What does this mean? I get steamrolled by actual level 80’s without them breaking a sweat.
I searched the forums regarding this issue and didn’t find any useful information. Anet, you guys have made a really beautiful, innovative game, how will you approach this problem of PvP scaling to make it more enjoyable for lower levels to enjoy WvW as a pleasant break from questing or as a means to level up entirely?
One solution I came up with is to grant players lower than level 80 a basic stat boost as though they are wearing a basic level 80 PvP armour and weapon set. I use the word basic because it would make them useful in combat without taking away from the level 80’s who have worked hard to build their high level gear. It would allow low levels to contribute while still having a separation from the really well-geared folks.

Hello everyone,
I am brand new to the Guild Wars scene and am trying to understand how GW2 is intended to develop. I come from WoW and so have a certain perspective/expectation of what an MMO looks like from level 1 through end-game. I have played for 11 or 12 hours so far, reached level 15 and am thoroughly enjoying GW2 thus far but I’m curious what I have to look forward to.
It is clear to me that GW2 is intended to be different, but I would like to hear from those who are still enjoying GW2 after reaching level 80. What maintains your interest, what motivates you to keep playing?
What, if anyone knows, is Anet’s intention with this game? Having a game free to play, in my opinion, really limits the developers’ ability to regularly produce new and exciting material so I wonder how far the game can really go.
tl; dr
You enjoyed the sub-stories and character plots up to level 80, what keeps you / will keep you playing and why?
