I vote warrior because that’s what I play. There isn’t anything more satisfying than brute force.
Ferguson’s Crossing is small but has some great social guilds that do pvp & dungeons. At low level you won’t run into many people but find your way to Vigil Keep and you’ll find a ton.

Everything sounds except the tag FART. I just can’t do it. Real shame because you sound like a great group of people!
1500 hours! Considering there’s no monthly fee you got an amazing deal.
cool, thanks! I appreciate the help.
Ok so you get the whole style permanently but you can only apply it to one set of armor at a time?
Greetings friends,
If I purchase a style set, can I only apply it once to gear or is it a set I can keep and use whenever I please?

Greetings friends,
I’m a fairly fresh player looking for a friendly, active rp-pve guild.
What I’m looking for:
- Active guild chat with guild chat RP
- Guild master(s) must be mature adults
- 0 drama!
- Dungeon & pve type stuff every once in a while
If you think your guild fits the bill, shoot me a message in-game or leave a post here.
~Hnivorous
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Greetings friends,
I started GW2 shortly after it was released and played for a smidgen. I’m back now to give it another go, what major things have I missed?
New expansions? New level cap?
~Spit
The ‘2’ skill should be like other similar skills that can be detonated with a second keypress though.
This is a great idea.
Badbooty! Lyuben, your eng looks awesome.
Thanks for the support! Much appreciated.
I use pistol/shield as stated in the guide. For sPvP I’ve just been using the standard gear granted upon entering the Mists. I’ve yet to mess around with runes/sigils to enhance the spec.
Your hero is so powerful that all doors hide out of fear of being slammed too hard.
New guides added today!
You are most welcome! Enjoy, the flamethrower can only get better once the bugs are worked out.
Interesting. I’ll have to look up some of Jeremy Soule’s other works. He is certainly talented.
Hey everyone,
There are many threads with all the problems, bugs, “imbalances”, etc, more than anyone dare count. Here’s the thread with all the things we think Anet has done right. As healthy as it is to take constructive criticism, people need positive feedback even more.
My two cents:
Environment – Beautiful. Given the current limitations in graphics engines, each zone is a delight to the senses and the devs have done well. The sounds and sights are stunning. Each Vista is a pleasure and I am always happy to see them as I explore the map.
Music – I usually turn in-game music off and play my own selection but I am still hooked on GW2’s soundtrack. Hats off to the composer(s), the music matches each zone (so far) very well.
Combat – I have only tried out the Engineer and am thoroughly enjoying the current mechanics of swapping kits for different abilities. Dodging, although a tad iffy, is a great addition to fighting a mob or in PvP. The downed state is very creative (I’ve never seen it outside of modern warfare) and killing blow in PvP will never get old. Combo finishers are very cool although I still don’t really understand them!
Underwater Combat – Very cool! I hated fighting underwater in WoW but having different skills when submerged is quite fun. It makes for a good time in PvP especially.
Personal Story – When I feel like taking a vacation from the MMO side of things, my personal story is a game within a game where I am the hero. NPC’s recognize me as their champion and it’s a great feeling to delve into that quest line.
Dynamic Events – A mish-mash of AOE but still fun! I’ve yet to explore the whole game but these break up the pace of questing quite well.
Gathering – Being able to harvest herbs, wood and ore is great. I am not much for crafting but I do enjoy collecting mats and selling them. Not needing to level my gathering (other than buying upgraded tools) is refreshing.
PvP – sPvP is very well-designed. Being granted level 80 and a full PvP set means that PvP is more about skill than who has the phattest loots. I am only level 21 or 22 but lose myself in sPvP for hours on end.
Jumping Puzzles – So fun. And challenging! ’nuff said.
Your turn, ladies & gentlemen! Tell us what you think GW2 does right.
~Spitwyld
Yeah thanks Spotwyld, I tried it out, a bit different to play wiht basicly popping elexiers everything one comes off its cooldown, but WOW
what a BLAST! I don’t have to switch kits anymore (just when someone tries to run away, rifle +2), might nicely stacked, finally doing the dmg the flamethrower should do in the first place.
Thanks, love the spec and it is working superb! Came just back from 4 wins in a row, all 1st place lol.I guess that is the thing they will “fix” soon … no more might stacking then… I hope they make the rest of the kits more usefull & fix them when that time comes.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! I will keep tweaking it to perfection! Flamegineer 4 life.
Can barely hear your voice through the music, can you re-post with the audio edited?
I made this thread a few days ago: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Engineer-Guides-The-Compendium/first#post192076
It’s a compilation of some builds I found online and will continue to expand it as time goes on.
~Spit
I suggest you try using all these builds in the intended context and see how they fare. As it stands, everyone is still tinkering with builds and no final numbers are available. Spend some time testing all these ideas, try noting the numbers and report back to the community with your findings.
Thanks for the info!
I have listed several guides in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Engineer-Guides-The-Compendium/first#post192076
Check’em out!
Try that out..
Greetings fellow Engineers!
I have seen a few different eng builds utilizing the flamethrower and have come up with my own version: The Flamegineer. Attached is an image of my build and skill layout.
Explosives – 10 points.
Evasive Powder Keg – This trait encourages you to dodge. Take advantage of it as often as possible.
Incendiery Powder – Free burn damage! I am unsure if its duration is extended by Napalm Specialist.
Firearms – 30 points.
Sharpshooter – Free bleed.
Precise Sights – This means that you have a 50% chance to increase how much damage you do whenever you land a critical hit. Sounds good to me!
Target the Weak – +10% crit chance if your enemy is below 50% health. Choose your targets wisely!
Napalm Specialist – Not sure if this stacks additively with the 30% longer condition duration from the trait line stat boost. Either way, it’ll keep your opponents’ memory fresh of the pain you just brought.
Target the Maimed – Coupled with Sharpshooter, this is a nice damage boost.
Juggernaut – Essential to surviving as a Flamegineer.
Inventions – 20 points
Low Health Response System – Some free health. Nothing major but every little bit helps.
Cloaking Device – Incredible trait. Remember that using any attack will bring you out of invisibility.
Automated Medical Response – When PvP combat is so short, chances are you won’t get to use another Elixir H via its natural cooldown.
Power Shoes – Both useful for getting away from your opponent(s) or chasing one down as you bbq his/her backside.
Alchemy – 10 points
Hidden Flask – Free Elixir B!
Self-Regulating Defenses – Elixir S will save you from death and gives you a great chance to get away.
As you can see from the attached image, I use a pistol and shield for sPvP.
I will explain how I use these in the ‘How to’ section.
Elixir H – This skill has saved me more often than I can count. Although it only heals you for about 1/5th of your health, you will be able to use it twice due to the trait Automated Medical Response.
Elixir B – This elixir gives a noticeable dps bonus in addition to a speed burst. In a group situation, tossing Elixir B is a must.
Elixir S – This is useful when you find yourself in a 1 v 2 situation and need to get away or in a group situation where you are being focus-fired. In a group, tossing Elixir S is quite excellent when it grants invisibility to your crew.
Flamethrower – Wouldn’t be a Flamegineer without it, would you? In addition, Incendiery Ammo is a huge DPS boost when firing your pistol.
Supply Crate – This is essentially a party in a box. Given the 3 minute cooldown, I only use this in a group situation when I am not being focus-fired.
How to play the Flamegineer
Opener Activate Elixir B, Incendiary Ammo and open with Poison Dart Volley. Follow this up with Static Shot and switch to the Flamethrower. If your opponent gets too close right away, hit him/her with an Air Blast followed by a Flame Blast. Unfortunately Flame Blast is quite glitchy but when it does strike, it deals a truckload of damage.
After this initial attack, you will regularly swap between your pistol/shield and flamethrower to maintain the condition damage of your poison dart volley and utilize your shield’s defensive skills. If your Air Blast is down and you need to give yourself some space, switch Pistol/Shield and use Magnetic Inversion. This affects multiple targets and can free you of multiple melee assaulters. Do not be afraid to charge a caster and use Magnetic Inversion to interrupt their cast! You can use Smoke Vent while wielding the Flamethrower if you are feared, it’ll protect you long enough to stay in the fight.
At 75% HP, use Elixir H and proceed with dealing damage since Hidden Flask just gave you a free Elixir B. At 25% HP you will automatically drink an Elixir S, allowing you an opportunity to escape your attacker(s) while downing another Elixir H thanks to Automated Medical Response.
Combat – I am with my team 90% of every sPvP match. Running solo either ends up with being jumped by several enemies or a tough 1 v 1 encounter. Depending on your skill and comfort with the Engineer class, you will be able to handle most 1 v 1’s using this spec.
The 1 Flamethrower attack hits multiple targets. In a group situation, lay down a line of Napalm and mash your 1 key repeatedly. Use your shield to toss enemies about and daze them, it’ll help your team maintain positive control over the fight.
I hope you found this guide useful.

Hey Optics, I like your creative style and have included your Pyrotank build in my Engineer Guides compendium thread.
That being said, I don’t really think this build works as you intend it to. Engineers have a bunch of useful support skills, but sacrificing the damage output for the minor group heals isn’t worth it imo. I also don’t think going full DPS is effective either, Engineers require a balance to make good use of their abilities to stay alive and support the group damage-wise.
It’s true! The flamethrower is great in PvP! 1 v 1 not so much but I generally stick with my group and the primary attack hits multiple targets.
The more skills you unlock, the more fun you’ll end up having. It’s a class that allows a player’s creativity to set the pace of combat. Going to the heart of the mists like Lyuben suggested to see what sort of abilities you get is a good idea. There are practice targets there you can try out different builds on.
Thanks! I’ll keep working on it and updating it as times go by and new patches are released.
I’ve gotta say when I started off-handing a shield I wondered how I ever got along without it. The knockback and stun abilities are incredibly useful against mobs and in PvP. I use the flamethrower as well, after shooting my poison dart and static shot, I switch and get my flame on!
Consider the stat bonus you’d get from a solid off-hand pistol. It’s worth it depending on what sort of gear you have.
I, however, use a shield in my off-hand for both PvE and sPvP. The knockback and stun abilities are too good to pass up.
Bizarre that people think the Flamethrower is weak, at low level PvE I find it does a lot of damage and in sPvP it wreaks havoc on my enemies. I can’t imagine how deadly it will be when Flame Blast is fixed to actually hit my target!
Elixirs are essential to the Engineer way of life. You don’t have to use many, but they are essential to surviving and supporting your team.
Thank you for the constructive feedback. I’ve removed links to the out-dated guides.
Shameless bump. Still scouring the internet for more guides and general info to help all you Engi’s out!
When you use the primary ability, it grants you a bunch of boons. When you toss it, it grants anyone in that radius one of the boons listed under the Toss Elixir B tooltip.
Due to the nature of the Engineer, I don’t think it’d be realistic to expect any builds to truly be ‘tanky’. The profession is relatively frail but makes up for it with utility.
I’m thinking that if someone wants to do top DPS, Engineer might not be the right class for them. There are many abilities that help the team.
It really is a breath of fresh air, agree 100%. It’s so different it feels like a whole new gaming experience. I’ve never played a character in any game that was as versatile.
It would be nice to have the option to trade a certain amount of currency for another type. This would allow players who prefer doing activity X to continue with what brings them joy while still earning currency for another type of gear. Example : 375 X currency for 250 Y currency.
Did you test the amount of healing you received before and after applying the healing upgrade? I know there aren’t actual meters you can use but repeating the skill a dozen times can you give a basic idea.
Here’s a video by Hassth explaining how combos work:
Well then I guess there was a reward for being the first players to race to 80 and eat up all the content. The rest of us are still enjoying the journey. The patient players will farm up most of their mats for crafting themselves instead of spending truckloads of gold to power-level it.
Some good info here. Thanks for furthering the Engineering cause!
Edit: The more I read about Engineer, the more I realize the brilliance of its design. There is SO much to this game’s combat system that I’ve never seen before.

The less than stellar pro-reviews have really targeted endgame being an issue

Reviews are personal opinions, ladies and gentlemen. They aren’t right or wrong, just different.
Although a level 80 might think “That sucks, it was easier when I went through”, a newbie hasn’t tried it the old way and won’t know any different. I don’t believe the game was designed as a race by any means. most people tend to play it at their own pace and aren’t affected by these changes imho.
Roger that, thanks!
My pleasure, thank you for leaving a comment
As I find more guides, I’ll be sure to sift through them to assure quality.
