Ah, so I was not the only one finding that thing weird.
Imho they should revert the Stab priority (hidden) change, as it added a lot of depth in the thief playstyle in conquest mode: sometimes, it is better to not use your Steal in a team fight because you want to use it to rip the stability from the guardian when he starts ressing his teammate. It’s a very risky, yet very rewarding, approach. With this change, doing that is pointless and it’s better to just spam steal whenever it’s off cooldown.

I just wish they made stolen items not suck. The only one I really “Like” getting, is the tree and the skull. Mace, Liquid, Boons, Axe, Ice, tuft, Just don’t really feel “Impactful” on the fight. And when we only have 1 F1 skill, and it relies on landing, then getting a stolen item (which depends on the target) and then you have to use it, I feel it should be a powerful, and impactful skill.

Sadly, “Stealing” has very little to do with actually stealing, and more to do with dumping tons and tons of traits into it, and making it useful by just pressing the button, instead of actively using the stolen item to make an impact.

I used to love the old warrior mace (a 3s stun) or the engi rifle (overcharged shot). I would have loved to see a better iteration of the old staff that you could steal from ele and allow you to do like a meteor shower with it.

But as of right now, stealing is more of a gimmick, and its a free teleport at best when you don’t dump traits into it and a death sentence at worse case scenario if you miss it. It’s easily the worst F1 ability natively, and it’s only “acceptable” if you pour like 30-40 trait points into it, which to me, is unacceptable.

You really think a 4s daze is “not impactful”?

To the extent it should be? No, I’d rather the old 3s stun, for people who know how to dodge, or teams who know how to peel, 4s daze isn’t impactful enough.

Because why would I ever want a blockable, 4s daze on a single target, over an aoe 3s unblockable fear?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but steal doesn’t always prioritize stab anymore with boonrip and SoH. Another bug? Or intentional?

Ah, I’ve literally never seen that bug. But stranger things have happened, Groober apparently had no idea what the stuck /dance bug was.

Then ya, obviously fix it, along with the teleport / stunbreak can’t move bugs….and the thousands of broken pathing and teleport bugs. I mean, you would think with only a few maps in the game, and years of development time, that they would make maps function even just a little. Half of each map you can’t even teleport to, players have had to adapt and to learn to play around and figure out the bug since the severity of it is so egregious and overwhelming, and that’s both hysterical, and terrible.

Honestly, I think they should change the way teleports work. Or just go into each map, and fix all the broken pathing, which would help teleports, AND pets at the same time.

Sad to see you go, good luck frand. Sadly, one less thief in high tier spvp, our numbers are dwindling rapidly.

But S/D needed to be nerfed, and it got what it needed. As I’ve said in various other places on the forums, it’s not that S/D is now suddenly terrible, it’s that many classes are so obscenely broken by contrast that it skews the perception of balance quite drastically. S/D is now balanced, Unfortunately, the things you’ll be going up against won’t be.

This is the real thread right here. However, Ostrich, I need to know where I place solo trolling since Bry isn’t on all the time for the duo to go to town. TBH, I still feel I would be in the neighborhood of 3 to 4, but surpassing Sataar has proven difficult since I get caught taking the game/match seriously sometimes.

anyone can test this. Infil signet —> steal, right after another quickly. You rubber band back to your original position. Infil signet on cd, steal on 5s cd. not server lag, its universal

steal bug is not completely fixed, ok it happens less frequent but it STILL EXISTS !!!!

Still happens every time you try to shadow step twice in a row, or very quickly after another movement animation skill.

Again, let me repeat myself, “Viable in the meta” and “Balanced” are two separate entities. It’s too early to tell if it’s viable for the current meta without being overpowered, but the point is that it’s now balanced.

You guys misunderstand, it’s dead in the sense that everyone and their mom can play it with braindead skill level. It’s not dead in the practical sense, it can still be run, but it’s more in line with what it should be. You should have to hit a flip skill to actually flip it. If anything, it allows you to trolololol evade spam your kitten in the opposite direction if your under fire. People are just mad that braindead spec’s get nerfed.

Signet of agility is overpowered when paired with acrobatics, and it makes it impossible to accurately count dodges. It allows for very little counter-play because pretty much any and all predictability is gone, and you just have to play entirely reactionary. That’s dumb, and this just aids in killing that. Agility needs to follow suit, I would rather it turn into either a heavier condi clear, or a disable of some kind to allow for cleaner setup and burst landing.

Acrobatics alone is fine, but when you combine feline, with vigor, with signet, it gets a bit kittened. DD needs a buff, PP needs a buff, Celestial and Engi’s / eles / necro / warrior need a nerf, etc,etc,etc. There’s too much sustain at the moment, and it makes thieves less valuable by contrast, but having kittened kitten on thief doesn’t help solve the problem, it just adds to the joke that is Spvp balance right now.

You can perceive me that way if it makes you feel better, Personally, I consider myself a D/D guy, it’s just not viable, and most likely won’t be for a very long time. I look at balance in a very fundamental way, and just because a broken build got nerfed, I don’t cry about how it’s suddenly unviable (real talk: It’s not). It’s just not to the broken state it was. Balanced, and “Viable in the Meta” are two completely, and separate arguments. And understanding their difference helps us understand balance better. Do I think S/D can be played in the meta right now? Eh, probably not, it might be, but the play-style will be different, and it wont be as effective as it was before. But is it balanced now? Yes.

No, kitten like engies, necros, braindead warriors, and ele, not to mention celestial are broken as balls, and this often skews most players perception of balance because the view is quite narrow and limited, with simple and small changes to many classes, balance could easily be made significantly better, and that includes even unused weapon sets like DD and PP for thief.

And you misunderstand, I care about balance as a grand picture, not a narrow minded view that is build-centric. Yes, I’m sad we lost another way to stay viable as a thief. Yes, I’m happy that something broken got fixed, even at the thieves expense. Because when you care about balance as a whole, that means taking hits to your own class, to make the game a better experience.

Instead of being sad that something broken on your class got toned down into a balanced state, you should be advocating the things that are completely out of line (healing signet, healing turret, incendiary powder, terror, celestial, etc) get toned down back into line so that everything becomes more playable as a whole.

And what you fail to understand is that the issue isn’t within Sword Dagger itself, it’s the acrobatics traitline. The reason i call it an unjustified nerf is that the weapon set wasn’t the issue and instead was strength runes, air/fire sigils and its synergy with the acrobatics traitline. please actually read my post before making assumptions. I don’t want my thread to turn into a battle of whether acro s/d was op or not, I simply want the weapon set to be fixed, and the traitline and accessories to be nerfed.

You didn’t have to land your skill to get it to turn over into its follow up skill. That’s moronic, and allowed it to be used in a way that it wasn’t originally intended. S/D is Viable, it’s just not broken…..It just feels weak because of how insanely overpowered many meta build / classes are right now, and gives a really skewed perception.

I’m glad S/D is dead. Personally, I wish signet of agility died too. It can still be used, just not in the same overpowered fashion. Given, it was never more overpowered than engi’s or necros after the infiltrators nerf, but it still shouldn’t have existed. Nor should Current engi’s or necros. People screamed “We can’t sustain!” and Anet decided to just make it so they have so much sustain and damage, they can just peel for themselves with no sacrifices needed, it’s ridiculous.

Deep freeze is bad game design pure and simple, and smells of Classic Arenanet “Oh This is still in the game?” Just like Stunbreakers not breaking Launches/KBs which was later “Changed” (Read: Fixed)

What’s Wrong with having an cc- Ability which is not broken by Stunbreaks?
One- It’s counter intuitive.

Might stacking also gives condition damage, if anything, might stacking is more effective for condition builds than power builds.

This is mathematically incorrect.

All condition focused attacks (not utilities) do physical damage, very few physical damage focused skills do conditions that inflict damage. Hence, might stacking is even stronger for condi builds than it is for pure physical.

Therefore, Condition builds benefit greatly from might stacks, moreso than physical builds which only yield 1 form of damage on most skills, thus making might TWICE as effective on condition builds.

Not to mention, stacking both battle sigil, with Aristocracy is just asking for even heavier abuse for Might stacking, which is already completely out of control.

You’d be able to pump out 6 stacks of might (7 on warrior) every 10 seconds if this were the case. It would be egregious as hell.

Close matches are my favorite, even if you lose, they’re still fun and invigorating. I had 3 games last week that ended 500 – 499. It meant it was a perfectly balanced fight, which are the most fun imo.

Good idea, but that’s too much strategy for the people in this game to handle. Heck, most people can’t even react to the same class beating them up 10 times in a row. With changing utilities/skill points, you’ll just end up with a bunch of people complaining.

You obviously weren’t here for the first number of months the game came out. Players would counter comp you as you reached a point, kitten was funny but utterly ridiculous. The whole match was swapping the entire time to counter counters of the counter that countered you a few minutes ago. No thanks, I don’t feel like running with my character screen up the whole time again.

But Bear!? Don’t you remember!? It added so much depth and skill to the game! That pesky necro that was spamming condi’s on me! I would use my pro-l33t-ski11z to swap in a bunch of condi clear and teach that scrub what what! I had to show him how HxC I was and how balanced builds were for scrubs! All aboard the counter-train y’all!!!

Personally I feel like when seasons come out, having an in game voice coms system (if done well) could be incredible. It sucks going into a conquest match with very little communication.

Yes, I’m aware that some people are annoying, abuses can take place, and that some people still won’t use it, but just giving the option can make all the difference for those who choose to use it.

Guild Wars 2 is an INSANELY active, and demanding game to play, having to micro things like commands or map pings on top of playing is not reasonable, I couldn’t even fathom it, even at top tier. This game basically REQUIRES voip, and is very demanding in terms of communication. And I only really see voip as being the way to provide that.

This wouldn’t only help PvP, it would help a ton with WvW, and even PvE dungeons. The thing we need to understand and respect with the difference of a game like GW2 and LoL, is the action is much more focused and fast paced in GW2 compared to LoL, and you’re given much more time to do things like chat commands in games like LoL.

Not to mention, taking your focus off of whats in front of you, to try to send commands, even for a second, can be insanely costly, not just to you, but your entire team.

If you do wheel commands instead of voip, We’re just teaching people to do the wrong stuff again, and working against the games core design.

You’ll need to use some basic strategies which everybody else has to use in order to ensure your big-hitting abilities land!

These include
Baiting dodges
Immobilising or stunning your enemy
Not being bad
Making sure you’re not blinded, or about to get blinded before using your abilities

Enjoy dealing with the same mechanics as the rest of us peasants!

Doesn’t change the fact that Hammer and Long Bow will be even more favorable when the changes happen.

Nice try though, casual. Good chance that you’ve never played Axe or Mace mainhand and made it work to an extent

My team Pioneered Mace Warrior back when no one played warrior period. Sarrs is right, less EZ mode, sorry frand.

Thanks for the feedback. This definitely hits on the rising themes we’ve seen coming from the community.

Creating a sense of progression through the different PvP types is definitely something we want. Hotjoin is not structured enough for new players, while team and solo arena are too daunting.

Open spectating of rated matches requires a lot of back-end work to make it scale to any number of viewers and support delays to prevent abuse. It is also less of a priority than leagues and seasons. Especially since we still have authorized shoutcasters and streamers.

With the addition of custom arenas, and the fact they’re now sold via gold, players can create their own rooms if they so choose to have people swap teams randomly and just play for fun. What I would suggest is making hot-joins function similar to a ranked matches, in the sense that when a match starts, your not allowed to switch teams, you pick spectator, or player before the game starts (or if join a full game, you queue to play as you spectate and it auto-puts you on the team that has a spot open up to keep the game even and flowing.)

I feel the addition of a more structured, but casual scene will make hotjoins vastly more enjoyable, and a significantly better environment to both watch, and play in. Without the stress or pressure of winning that a ranked game puts on people.

The problem with hotjoin right now is it’s just a hot mess, in many other games, hot-join type matches are still run very similar to ranked matches, just with the ability to join and leave mid-match. The insane amount of freedom allowed for hotjoin makes it turn into a hot chaotic mess of nonsense, cheese, and stupidity. Unless the game auto-balances you, you shouldn’t be able to switch teams freely, etc, those options should be reserved for Custom Arenas.

I think a lot of people need a little more time for sign-ups. People are shocked at how quickly signups are happening, I would at least expect them to open up on the Monday following TOL2’s finals, as I’m sure there will be quite a few teams changing rosters after.

2. Nobody cares how “good” you are. I bet Amon or Kinsz could wreck you 1v1 anyway.

3. You do not explain why S/D is bad for the game. You also ignore everything said about how acro is cancer, not S/D.

I don’t ignore how cancer Acro is. Anyone with half a brain stem can tell you acro paired with S/D is kittening kittened. S/D is cancer in general, because it rewards you for spamming a single skill with very little thought, it can self peel back across friendly lines, and has insane cleave, and high burst, on top of unblockable, and boon strip. Does this seriously need to be explained? It vastly outshadows physically every other weapon in any scenario. It’s burst isn’t risky, its more reliable, and requires virtually no setup (aside from pressing 3 once beforehand out of range or while evading a threatening attack) Compared to the kind of setup required with a D/P where you need stealth, positioning, and a single strike that can be blocked, blinded, etc., and leaves you highly vulnerable afterwards.

Please, don’t insult my intelligence because you’re kitten over S/D being a complete joke in terms of balance. It shouldn’t require explanation if you know anything about thief, the dev’s saw this, and made the right move. I hardly ever agree with the balance choices the balance team makes, but this one was spot on, and it was a nerf to my own class.

Any idiot can 1 v 1, thief duels are more about lucky procs with fire + air and crits than they are personal skill. How well the thief preforms his role on a team is what makes him exceptional. But it’s cool cupcake, keep thinking your WvW experience makes you good.

S/D needs to be nerfed, it’s OP (Note that thieves are not OP, just the weaponset, and since thieves are UP as a whole, this helped balance them out), and bad for gameplay, balance, and thieves. That said, most other classes need some pretty significant nerfs to keep balance in check.
