I personally love the idea of streak effects, and making them to the actual scale and reach of the hitbox area, and making them much more apparent, I think this would help a lot of people understand how / whats happening to them in pvp and make it more accessible. Not to mention it helps make it easier to tell the actual hit-radius of things like Massive Norns ( I have a tendency to underswing on my norn because the weapons are so massive but don’t actually reach) and the converse for Asura.

As long as they look nice, and are easy to see, I think it would be a significant improvement. That, and a more “forceful” feeling when you strike / get struck in melee.

Not sure whats being implied here. The attack areas are the same for all races.

The issue that they are upset about is not so much the hitboxes. But the animations and the fact that they don’t scale causing confusion or thinking that you are safe from harm when you really aren’t.

Correct, if I’m standing in the location the players were in relation to the Asura, I would assume I was safe, The weapon is nowhere near the point of impact, it has nowhere near the viable reach, it has no kind of way for me to gauge the actual distance, and I’m essentially just guessing that I’m close enough / far enough away because the distance appearance vs the actual hit area are so vastly skewed in proportion to each-other.

Asuras are insanely problematic to PvP because of how hard it is to tell what animations they’re using, what weapons they’re holding, when / if they’re doing an animation, and obviously, the egregious difference in their size proportion to their hitbox.

@OP – You create a new thread on a weekly basis about what you think deserves more attention and what is overpowered, solely based upon what angers you in solo queue or hotjoin (whichever type of player you are).

None of your arguments are backed up with actual facts and good suggestions, it’s just a rant and some QQ here and there.

Warrior, Ele, and Engi are all overpowered right now, and he does bring up valid points, it’s because they have too much sustain for the amount of damage output they can put out, on top of all the defensive utilities they can run without having to sacrifice damage or utility to do their jobs.

He makes a valid argument, everyone at the high end of pvp knows this to be true, but Anet can’t very well make a balance patch in the middle of an active tourny taking place.

We could break down all the math, and quantify the perceived or relative strength of CC’s and certain utilities. But let’s be honest, we don’t need all of that when you can see clear imbalances in the math. Warrior Signet is far too powerful, Engi Turret is not being used as a turret and has the highest healing output in the game, Celestial has had dozens of people do math on it, and has proven it’s vastly overpowered giving a almost a 40% increase in stats compared to other amulets.

None of this is new news or groundbreaking stuff, it’s the current meta, and it’s obnoxious, but it is what it is.

He has a point, lets not devolve his statements into childish banter.

For those interested in the results. He played A D/P thief, Longbow Power rangers counter. They dueled, Absent didn’t land a single blow on Eura. He got annihilated.

And then he refused to pay his 10g for the lost bet.

This thread is full of misinformed biases and meta copy-pasta players who aren’t experienced enough to make a reasonable argument against zerker ranger. It’s a high risk, high reward build, just like any zerker build, and it takes a lot of skill, with a massive importance on timing and patience to play properly.

It is viable, it is powerful, it can compete in the current meta.

with such comment, it seems like you set a requirement of tournament victory in order for a build to be called viable or even good. I will however remind you that there is 4 other players on the team that each can be the source of a loss.

lol what’s the point in arguing? You’ll all just run your LB/GS builds anyway. There’s a reason rangers are referred to as free bags in WvW. There’s a reason people are shocked when they get beat by a ranger. Yet you still all preach the viability of power rangers. I’m done. You can drive this class to the ground for all I care. I’ll be in PvP getting free kills if you need me.

Okay, Eura’s build isn’t setup for 1 v 1, it’s a team build. Put your money where your mouth is, 10 gold says he eats your kittening soul in a 1 v 1.

I do believe you deserve to go, regardless of a nomination, you have put in more work and effort than I believe Anet themselves have put into PvP. And for that, they should be kissing your kitten and taking you along for the ride.

That said, putting you in the all-stars roster when there are several other top tier players not on that list is what is irking people. I don’t believe it’s anything personally against you, so try not to take it personally, people are just upset because the list looks more like a popularity contest than a true “All-Stars” list.

Best of luck friend. I hope you get to go, you deserve it.

Send them to anyone whos in Charge of the Tournament and they upload it on youtube, We the Community choose 8 Videos and send them into the Tournament and then they gonna Rap against each other, what do you think?

All Participants get a Microphone Stomp + 1k gems and the Winner gets a Legendary Weapon!

I’ve been barking up this tree for about 3 and a half eternities. I wish you the best, but they’re not going to change it. It’s been argued into the floor since launch and clearly there is no intention to change it. The original design of many skills were to be hybrid so that people of any type of build could utilize them. Unfortunately most hybrid skills / weapons are terrible, and there are entire weapons that are ruined because their design is hybrid. many classes, weapons, and builds are plagued by the problem of skills just not fitting the weapon or being akward. Like Pistol Pistol being high physical damage but the main attack and stealth attacks are bleeds (lolwut?) Ranger Axe, Necro Scepter 3, Guardian Torch, etc. the list goes on. A lot of these weapons (like Warrior S/S) can be used as a gimmicky weapon set, but are never seen in true competitive play because their one trick pony weapons that usually prey on a specific build type, or newer players.

Worse yet, because people have dedicated time investing in gear for specific weapons, gear, builds etc. Anet doesn’t want to change them and screw over PvE players that have spent large amounts of time investing in legendary, or ascended gear-sets. So the likelihood of these skills getting changed to be more practical, is slim to none, the bad designs are going to stay bad until we get the ability to modify weapons to change specific abilities with glyphs or something.

PvE and WvW are the main reason why PvP doesn’t see logical balance a lot of the time, because it would ruin peoples moronic builds because they invested time in getting the gear for it, moronic or not, Anet doesn’t want to upset them.

This game is just so fluid in its pvp combat…..it’s hard to quit this game…..

Exactly, they fail to understand the reality that the majority of the reason people play and love this game is the combat, mixed with no subscription fee. The combat is literally unparalleled and so fun to play, it doesn’t matter how garbage the pvp, or pve content is, people would still play it because of the combat.

Sadly, this is exactly how most of the pvp playerbase that has been around since launch feels, and it’s sadly apparent that most of whats written is painfully correct.

Something needs to be done, either a passionate fire needs to be lit, or more resources need to be dedicated to PvP so that the job can be done correctly, it cannot take 3-4 months for a light balance update with how poor a state the games pvp balance has been in for ages now. When we get to a good place, then we can have balance updates take some time between each patch to maintain healthy balance. But we’re not even to that point yet.

A-nets treatment of PvP to date, has been unacceptable by most standards, especially for a game that was attempting to go E-Sports. Any business knows that you have to put in to get a yield or return, you put barely anything in, and you get barely anything back, that’s reality, and we see that every time we play PvP.

I’d be happy with two small changes.

1. Remove rune of strength from PvP
2. Lower burn durations

I would rather they adjust runes of strength so that the might supplied by the runes is largely reduced in duration as well as the damage moved back to a 5% increase rather than have them removed.

I do not enjoy the idea of having a pet parrot.

I’d prefer they removed all pets from runes, they’re just a terrible mechanic.

Yeah an MVP thing would be nice, encouraging people to play well. Sortable lsst for basic statistics, certainly an improvement over a flat score.

We agree the scoreboard needs an overhaul at some point. What kind of functionality would you want to see on the scoreboard? Stat comparison between teams? Between players? What you scored best in?

Please remove the personal point system in the score board. It only fuels ignorance.
Remove it and put something useful like actual stats.

Currently the point system accomplishes nothing but cultivating foolish behavior.

I’d like to second this. I would want the window to be significantly larger, right now it feels pretty small and uninformative. People can find all sorts of things to be proud of if you give them the tools to see what they’ve actually done and contributed.

This also means showing things like deaths, downs, etc so people can properly gauge what happened. It’s not only fun to look at all of this during / after a match, but it’s a very helpful tool.

The current score system makes for a terrible teaching mechanic because players are more focused on personal score than team score. It needs to go away, quickly. We have a massive influx of new players that are learning the wrong way to play.

I am respecting what you’re saying, and how you’re currently see the meta,but didn’t you just contradict yourself with these two statements?

Celestial is the exception that proves both rules, they can run it with p/d successfully. Outside of this recent change, the statement still stands true, that since the dawn of time, thief has zerker, and that’s it. It’s the base math associated with thief and the damage multipliers their given that force them into this.

Balthazaar needs to be fixed. It’s inexcusable that 9 months after this has been acknowledge, balthazaar proc is still unblockable and undodgeable.

Rune of Balthazar: Fixed a bug on the 6-piece bonus that caused the burning effect to go through blocks and evades.

I think the point is it’s not the amulet’s fault. As Chaith said, there’s only one top-tier celestial build, and a second pretty good one. That’s…hardly gamebreaking. If celestial eles are too over the top, adjust traits or skills, not the amulet.

There are at least 4 Celestial builds that are viable and run at top end.

Cancer Warrior (Triple Shout S+S / LB)
Celestial Engi, Self explanatory
Celestial Ele, Pretty much the only run build.
Celestial Spirit Ranger

All Four of which are over the top, with one thing in common, the amulet.

Celestial needs to be nerfed, when you give people 2000 more stats than everyone else.

Ok this is a huge exaggeration. Celestial has a total of 3038 stats. Berserkers has 2340. Rabid has 2208.

That’s only 698 difference between celestial and berserkers. You can argue whether or not the gap is too much to compensate for celestial’s lack of specialization but the numbers you have here are plain wrong.

I think Celestial is fine. You lose a lot of specialization for the extra stats elsewhere. Celestial was terrible before the buff and no one used it. It got buffed up about 658 points from 2380 (including jewel).

Players instantly dying from procs is terrible for the game for a number of reasons, especially for all of these brand new players that just got drawn into pvp, now instantly dying from a random auto attack that procced several crit effects and killed them with an autoattack. They have no idea how / why they died, or what’s even going on. This just leads to frustration and leads them to not play PvP. Not to mention it’s just poor design, and isn’t fun for anyone.

Balthazaar needs to be fixed. It’s inexcusable that 9 months after this has been acknowledge, balthazaar proc is still unblockable and undodgeable.

Grenades on Engi’s, need to have a minimum range requirement, bombs are for close proximity, nades are for throwing, not spamming at your feet and slaughtering everything around you without effort.

Thieves need to have executioner removed, and their base multiplier lowered, with an increase to base damage to compensate, and give thieves access to different build options. As it stands currently, Thieves have one option because of the poor balance, Running zerkers, or doing virtually no damage. (Consider that a class like warrior always has his HP regardless of his build, A thief sacrafices his hp for his, but has insanely low base damage and gains nothing in return besides skewed multipliers, which is why thieves always have to run berzerker, mathematically, they aren’t given any other option.) Unload needs to be significantly faster, having a channeled skill as the only source of damage on a medium ranged weapon is ludicrous on a super squishy target. Fix death blossom Fix death blossom Fix death blossom Fix death blossom Fix death blossom Fix death blossom Fix death blossom. And please, For the love of Llama kitten, Fix Death Blossom.

Rangers pets need an increase in their range so they can attack more consistently. It’s a core class mechanic, and still feels second class in quality.

Teleport bugs need to be corrected again. They broke after the recent patch, as they almost always do.

Utilities for every class need to be looked at individually, and buffed / nerfed accordingly. Less focus on builds, and more focus on the numbers and logic behind individual skills / utilities will allow us to have significantly more viable options, balance the utilities first, then

There are skills that have been laughable since launch, for no reason. We’re years into the game, it’s unacceptable that we still have skills on a kitten cd with 3 seconds of chill and no added effect taking up utility slot. (Ice drake venom). Things like this should not still exist 2 years after launch. It’s either stubbornness, or laziness. Venom Share thief has never been viable, stop it. Just make the skills legitimate and able to stand on their own without gimmicky builds required to make a utility worth any value, that’s terrible design.

Most of this stuff is low hanging fruit, that really isn’t complicated if it’s not over-thought, which will result in drastically improved balance, build options, enjoyment, and a better game and more flourishing community, and last but certainly not the least, Esports. Because half of this kitten makes it neigh impossible to shoutcast this game successfully.

Also /golfclap, Thank you for getting rid of the god kitten sharks. Now get rid of the god kitten hammer from competitive game types, no one is amused.

Let me start by saying I love this newest patch, PvP has been revitalized and Anet should be proud of themselves for the work they’ve done. PvP has quickly come a long way and has brought many veteran and pve players to the field, and is more active than it’s ever been.

That said, I know it’s been beaten to death, but this Meta is probably one of the most un-entertaining we’ve had. Teams can run 5 Psudo-Bunkers with team support and heals and we have matches ending with 1 minute left on the scoreboard and bunkering down points for three and a half eternities.

Double sigil procs have all but shut down glasses from any class, furthering the bunker problem. And Celestial is so strong, it can be run on literally any character, including thief, to make obnoxious builds with require low skill and have high impact.

Bunkers run rampant, and surprisingly, the “Core” bunker, Guardian, has almost been pushed out of the meta.

That said, a few things need to be done for the health of the game in my humble opinion.

Celestial needs to be nerfed, when you give people 600 more stats than everyone else theres going to be some imbalance. The general concept makes sense, but we’re seeing full teams of celestial run around, and being successful at that.

Warriors signet regen needs to be lowered, other warrior heals need to be brought up in strength to bolster warriors massive hp pools (this was one of the only real issues with warriors from the start, massive hp pools, kitten poor heal skill with the inability to sustain it).

Realistically, all heal skills should be balanced towards the base hp of the class it’s associated with, it’s painfully obvious that many classes are not balanced around this concept. Heal as one is a great example for rangers, it does roughly 33% of the targets hp, which is terrible. This is why so many classes only have 1 “Real” heal skill they can use. That, and the insanely limited access to condition removal (usually only one skill per class clears conditions, which is beyond insane.) Not having a condi clear on a heal should be the exception, not the rule, and you should be gaining a powerful effect for giving up that condition clearing.

Sigils need to be rebalanced, again. With the ability to double stack sigils, stacking 2 of a kind has lead to some insanely cheesy and powerful setups. Giving proc sigils insanely high proc rates requires 0 investment into crit to achieve these highly powerful effects, allowing anyone to burst.

Nightmare Runes proc needs to be reworked.

Things like Sigil procs, incendiary powder, spinal shivers, etc. Need to be looked at reworking, the damge is undodgable, because the moment you actully are touched (regardless of how skillfuly you dodge or avoided most attacks) your instantly blown up with procs that require 0 effort or skill to execute.

It got nerfed back in the day, because everyone used to run super glass and got mad they’d get wiped to it for playing like idiots. Condi damage was added to it, the physical damage got nerfed, and it got slowed down so it took twice as long to deal the damage. They overnerfed the kitten out of it, hence why you only ever see basi being run. Thieves guild seems pitiful these days as well. It would be really nice to see them rebalance several elites on many classes.

Point is dagger storm right now is silly, you can stay next to your opponent for the whole duraration of the “storm” and not even a single dagger may connect.

One thing to note, is how whirls work, they’re pretty terrible in general, instead of aiming at your target, they actually aim where your right click “Free Cast” is aimed at. So that means if you right-clicked before using it, and had your camera facing the ground (Imagine a top down perspective), all of the daggers will actually go directly into the floor. I feel like whirl projectiles should aim at the proper height for your current target to solve the issue of “What if the intended target is above or below you”.

Dagger Storm used to be an incredible offensive ability, as it was designed to be. Even the name suited the skill perfectly. “Dagger Storm” was right; it was exactly what it sounded like, a hellish storm of daggers and death. Now it’s just a sad, sad joke, and no one is laughing.

Maybe… Lich form should suppress damage procs while it’s active. 5k Deathly Claw autos’ are nothing to laugh at.

Elegant solution.

The proc is still stupid powerful just on a power necro in general, all it takes is for to touch you at 50%, or death shroud 1 you, and your essentially insta-gibbed, and since it’s a proc, as you said, its unavoidable damage, no dodging, invuln, or ability in the world can save you from it, which is terrible for counterplay, and impossibly hard for new players to understand whats happening to them, just bad all the way around.

However, I do feel that in general, far too much of this games power damage is now coming from procs moreso than dodgable damage.

I remember when war was “that red haired step child” and team from NA who were running him and still they beated every other team comp……its not about classes its about team tactics.

Heyyoo, that was us. And for what it’s worth, I agree. Too many people during this tourny were trying to outcheese eachother that some teams I think could have easily won lost because they weren’t playing the classes and comps they were best at, but tried for EZmode cheese and lost.

I second the notion that C&D should be un-nerfed. It was around when mug could crit, and we had access to higher + Crit Damage multipliers, now that crit damage has taken a dive, and mug can no longer crit, the damage output from this skill, on top of them adding revealed, paired with the fact it’s substantially weaker than it’s BPS + HS counterpart, would make it a prime candidate for boosting its effectiveness.

The damage nerf should be reverted, the initiative cost should be lowered, and it should get 5 stacks of vuln for 10s instead of 3 stacks for 5s. That, and fixing death blossom into an actual usable skill would give us a functioning D/D weapon set with minimal effort.

Cast bars are not the solution, this is a heavily animation based game where telegraphs, timing, fields, and positioning heavily impact the fight and are integral to a players success.

The game was intentionally designed this way, so that the player would not be looking at cast bars and the UI the majority of the fight, telegraphs are how we are meant to properly respond to what’s going on in a fight.

Cast bars are counter-intuitive by nature to the combat system’s core design.

That said, this is the very reason Asura’s are so problematic in any type of enviornment for pvp, competitive or otherwise.

This should help address the concerns about effects covering animations.

I’m pleased to see this coming, but effects were only part of the problem for me. Even in the 1vs1 fights where there weren’t many effects but both players were asura it still wasn’t very nice to watch because of how asura animations are just inherently harder to read. I know there won’t be any changes for the NA qualifiers but I would just like to know if banning asura from future tournaments is something you might consider to make for a better show. Again I’m only talking about proper tournaments with lots of people watching, not all pvp.

Seconded, Asura’s are the main problem here, while particle effects have been an issue on it’s own, it’s not directly related to the problems pertaining to Asura, which have to do with animation masking, reading, countering, and seeing even what type of weapons they’re holding, which is nigh impossible.

I personally feel that self expression is really important, especially when the progression system is based heavily around Aesthetics. So I feel that using base human models is not the way to go, the proper way to deal with the situation would be to just simply standardize the size of models, there are even some human females that can get really tiny, but their animations are far easier to see and deal with compared to asuras, so this is a problem that’s fairly exclusive to Asura.

I knew this day was coming, and used to bring this topic up quite often only to be met with laughter, and here we are.

It’s not a problem in my eyes. Yes it has a wide arc, but it’s a frontal arc single target strike. The only problem I have with it, is when I try to strike a minion necro, or a spirit ranger and basically everything else eats the attack but the target itself. But that’s more of an issue with all attacks that are single target than just specifically heartseeker.

Jon, thanks for the response, and while I feel particle effects may be an issue for some people, and for seeing whats going on, the issue of Asura are a completely seperate and important matter. The reason players spam asura is because they are small, and it’s impossible to tell what weapons they’re holding most of the time, what animations they’re casting, (save greatsword / hammer) what they’re doing, and targeting them is significantly harder than other races. The biggest issue of the following is animation hiding, which is why so many people play them, especially at the top end.

That said, people have brought up in several threads now, not just this one, that it’s not only confusing to play against, but confusing to watch, unentertaining, and really detracts from the whole experience, not to mention seeing everyone play the same race is unappealing in general.

The most logical solution to this would be to normalize character size, similar to how it was done in Super Adventure Box. Because it’s obviously become a problem, and now that we have people watching, everyone has begun pointing it out.

From personal experience as a top tier player, I despise fighting Asuran models, they’re difficult to read and respond to properly, they’re harder to select, and give a clear advantage, but I prefer to play a human due to aesthetic reasons, though it would be in my best interest to do as many others do, and just simply play Asura. I don’t want to do that, and I don’t think it should be the solution. If it’s a problem at the top, it’s easily a problem everywhere else, especially to people learning the game and trying to read the dozens of asuran models, then dying and having no idea why, or what’s going on.

This game is an animation based game, and Asura’s work directly against that, no matter how crazy the animations are, we still need to be able to see their hands, what they’re holding, and what they’re doing.
