I am really feeling this with all the halloween stuff I’ve collected. My bank is stuffed, my bags are full. I’ve got halloween skins that I want to use but I’m afraid to because if I ever want to change them I’ll lose out.

The Jugs of karma are not part of Halloween, they are a new permanent addition. You get a jug every time you complete dailies and you get 10 jugs for completing the monthly achievements.

4 hours to just do some lame kitten jumping.. Not worth the time..

Nobody forced you to do it.

Wrong. To fully complete the Halloween event you HAVE to complete the tower……there is no way around it as the event list stands now.

It doesn’t count towards the Emissary title. It’s just 1 standalone achievement with no unique rewards (the shoes can be purchased in the TP).

Actually, no they can’t, they’re soulbound and unsalvageable, even.

The ones from the clocktower are soulbound. Other ones aren’t. Look on the TP, there are plenty up for sale.

They seem to have nerfed both the loot AND the timer. One was needed, but both was excessive. I’d be happy if I could at least loot the chest again with a very small chance for another mad king’s set, but mostly candy corn and stuff otherwise. Not being able to loot it at all really sucks.

I am about to stop playing this entire game because of this puzzle. In everygame I play I always go for achievments. I simply will not be getting this achievement. Since its only here for a few days and I have work/school/a social life and have already spent way over 8 hours on this puzzle and not made it half way up yet. There is simply too many people in the zone blocking my view. I am an asura but made a level 2 human which made it slightly easier to see but I still can’t do it. The green goo moves way 2 fast I fail on that part where u jump to the lower block and the green goo gets me there. I’ve had over 200 attempts now. I am not laughing anymore. I dont want the item, I just want the achievement. Please remove the achievement from this puzzle or extend the duration of it to a few weeks at least. If I miss this achievement I will NOT bother playing the game anymore.

Remove the achievement? This is exactly what achievements are SUPPOSED to be… an achievement. Not “Oh hey guys, I spent 6,000 hours killing 500,000 of these mobs”. It’s something that requires skill and not everyone will be able to get. That’s a real achievement.

It would be nice to see something like the LOTRO Outfit tab system.

I really loved this system. It’s more for quick outfit swapping on a character than the storage/collecting problem that we have now, but it’s something I would support seeing in the future as well.

I love this idea. I would be more likely to make an effort to collect all of the skins in the game if the cost of using enough skin salvage kits wasn’t too high (they’d have to be roughly the same price as a transmute stone per use for me to use them) and, there was a achievement or just blanked out spaces in the vendor to track which you don’t have yet.

Yeah, it would especially give me incentive if it listed all the armor.

Also, I would hope this would be for ALL skins, including the starter ones, and not just dungeon sets or something. I’ve kept some of the starting white items around just for the looks, so being able to store those as well would be nice.

I really like this idea. However I would like to not have it extract the skin as an item, just save the skin to your home instance vendor. I definitely would pay gems for a kit to save skins for me.

Yeah, I’m not sure if that was clear but that was what I wanted. When you “Extract” it then it’s simply available there. It doesn’t need to create a new item.

I’m not sure exactly how they have the HoM configured but I would think that there would have to be some flags or a variable associated with the account for each level of HoM you achieved on your character. The HoM vendor then sells those particular items.

The easiest way to do your idea then would be to create a list of all weapon skins and have the vendor sell them. But if you did it that way it would be hard to distinguish what that person already has and its not clean. Then you would have to have a variable of whether or not that skin (and all others) has been obtained. The HoM vendor is not the same thing and this would require some implementation either way.

You are right, my method is not 100% free and easy to implement. It would still take some time. I don’t know what their code looks like, but it shouldn’t be hard to simply have a flag for each set to know whether that character has unlocked it yet.

It’s still more simple than designing a brand new interface and/or a new method of interaction to swap skins on an item I would think.

Either way, I’d be happy with pretty much any implementation that lets me save and store skins for repeated use.

Good idea but… How about a slight variation? Like a Skin bank?

You could go to the banker and choose to either deposit the weapon/armor turning it in to a skin-only or trade it with one already in the bank. You could make it use one of the in place currencies such as karma or even make the currency transmutation stones. This gets rid of the need for the skin extractor and simplifies it a bit.

This actually requires quite a bit more implementation on ArenaNet’s end (and thus less likely to happen). One of the reasons I chose this method was because it uses systems already in place in the game: the HoM vendor setup, the normal transmutation stones, etc. None of it is a large system to implement, just the new skin salvage kit and adding the blank items with each skin.

For reference:
Let’s assume you are collecting dungeon sets. There are 3 sets (Light, Medium, Heavy) of 6 pieces of armor per dungeon, plus about 19 weapons. That’s 37 bank slots per dungeon, times 8 dungeons is 296 bank slots if you want to store JUST the dungeon skins. A maxed out bank is only 240 bank slots, so you can’t even have 1 of every dungeon skin let alone karma, crafted, holiday skins, etc.

Added a small new tidbit. I had some people expressing concerns over being able to extract the skin from an item but not lose that item. Making the “Skin Extractor” a “Skin Salvage Kit” instead would destroy the item in the process of extracting the skin. This way you can’t simply extract every skin then sell/salvage the items.

I think this is even more relevant now with all the new Halloween skins to collect. I want a copy of each in case I want to use them, but again this takes up a lot of space to try and store these not to mention tracking which I have and not being able to swap between various skins without losing old skins.

One thing that worked for me while trying to get all the PoIs/Vistas in WvW was to hide and run in when my enemies broke down a wall. If your server isn’t capping the points you need but the other 2 teams are fighting over them you can hide nearby and wait for the gate/wall to go down then sprint in behind them to get the PoI. You’ll probably die but you’ll get the PoI.

I guess that’s where we diverge. Some people want to everyone to live in Candyland where everyone can satisfy their sweet tooth. Others like to have things that serve as status symbols that show their distinction from the world around them.

What’s the point in having a Porsche if everyone has one? It’s pretty? Won’t it eventually just look ugly and bland in a sea of Porsches?

Continuing this analogy…
What people seem to think we’re asking for: Porsches for $10.
What we really want: A Porsche at retail value, not a Porsche that is ONLY available through spending several times the retail value in the lottery.

How would you like to take your very large lump sum of cash to pay for a Porsche, go to the dealership, hand it over, and they go “Sorry, you were not one of the lucky ones this time but here’s a CD player instead. Thanks for the money!”

The catch is you should have known it was a lottery to begin with. I’m sure in your analogy the dealership (if a reputable one) would have advertised this lottery system.

Well, there are no other dealerships. Even if they advertised it that means that the only way for me to get a Porsche is to spend ridiculous amounts of money. I have no way to ever guarantee one, and I could be out millions of dollars with still no Porsche. I saved my money, I worked really hard, but I’m still not allowed to have a Porsche. Why exactly? I worked harder than everyone else to get something I wanted, but I’m not allowed to have it.

Alright ladies and gentlemen,

ANET is a COMPANY one that needs to pay the bills to keep the lights on, and pay their employees so they can feed their families. They have to make money somehow. You have to look at this as the real world bit doesn’t matter what you think of companies and gaming companies they have to make money just like everyone else.

Did you really think that $60 to buy the game was going to keep the ArenaNet company continuing to survive and thrive? Of course not let’s be real. I have NO problem with them putting cool items in the shop like skins that people can buy with cash. Hey good on you if you win one. They need people to spend money somewhere to keep the company up. The content is free the events are free, there is nothing that you need to spend money on. The quests and costume fights are free. All spending is optional this is in now way ‘gouging’ their customers. This is the real world companies need to make money. Honestly I am extremely happy with the way the update/event is as its not mandatory to buy anything.

You can buy gems with gold, gems can buy you everything, you can buy ALL the items on the TP as they are tradeable.

Thanks for the hard work ANET and i appreciate the update and events its been fun so far!

And again, someone misses the point. It’s not about “oh, why do we have to spend money?” I’ve already bought all the costumes and the mini-pets. I’ll be tossing another $20 in tonight to pick up some more stuff. I’ll gladly give ArenaNet more money for stuff.

The question is “why do I have to use real money to play the in-game lottery?” I’ll buy stuff when I know what I’m getting. I LOVE random loot from in-game items. I don’t like paying real money to spin the wheel for a chance at getting an event item. If I want to gamble with my real money I’ll go to the casino.

And yes, you can buy gems with gold… currently you can get less than 1 gem per silver. If you’re lucky enough to grind out 100 gold or so in the next week you might even be able to get ONE of the 9 BLC skins! Good luck grinding out 100 gold in a week though, especially if you want to be able to actually participate in the fun event stuff.

sigh I have not spent a single penny on keys or chests, infact I am enjoying selling all my chests and candy corns! But what you “supporters” are NOT recognising is that most people complaining are complaining about the crappy odds Anet put on the gamble chests! I think the people complaining have a point. Anet has set out a stall of being on the side of the gamer but it is patently obvious they are a corporate greedy machine that could care less about its customers.
They need to sort this out before it bites them on the backside. YOU will not have a game if the complainers do not spend in the cash shop any more because of RNG low drop rates.
Please do not come back with a “entitlement” argument. It is old, tired and plain wrong .

Do you understand game companies are a business like any other? They have to make money you know. This is their job. Calling them greedy isn’t really fair.

Running a business doesn’t give you license to be greedy. It’s 100% possible. Plenty of businesses don’t lie or gouge their customers. If people keep accepting it then nothing will change. As it is right now most american companies would rather lie, cheat, steal, and gouge you for every penny you’re worth. They’d gladly throw you over a bridge if it made them money. If ya’ll keep accepting it they’ll keep doing it….

blah blah blah, greedy customer wanting everything for free, blah blah blah

This is game has no subscription. Their income comes from the in-game store. Stop qqing because they encourage you to get COMPLETELY OPTIONAL FLUFF from the store for money.

I like how fanboys literally make kitten up. If I wanted everything for free I’d be asking for it for free. I’m asking for them to get rid of stupid kitten like a grind for a halloween weapon. Just put it on the gem store I’ll straight buy it. So what’s that about wanting everything for free again? The problem is ya’ll want people to work like this is an IRL job. I’d rather just straight buy it for a reasonable price. At least that’s honest.

How dare I want it to take a week to get fluff for an event that lasts a week!

and lol, “reasonable price”. You mean low enough that you can just get a gold or two and convert them to gems? i.e. free

It doesn’t take a week to get the weapon/shoulder skins, it takes a large wallet. Why won’t anyone address the fact that it’s not about time and it’s not about “work” and it’s not about making items rare, it’s about money. Those with hundreds of dollars to blow on keys have a chance at a skin (and still aren’t even guaranteed one, let alone the one they want). Those who can’t toss hundreds of dollars are just out of luck. You can’t even earn these in game.

Give me something in game that I can do that takes a full week to earn these skins and I’d be happy. I will gladly “work” for anything in the game, but there isn’t really anything I can do in the game to earn these. I could attempt to farm enough gold to buy gems to get keys… but even if I was earning 1-2 gold an hour I’m not sure I could even come close to what I need to get a skin, let alone multiple skins, before the event ends with the way gem prices are.

The trick or treat bags are a great example of how these skins could have been done better. You can buy trick or treat bags in the shop and it’s a small random chance at getting awesome stuff like recipes, but mostly it’s candy corn. However, I can actually play the game to earn these. Plus, even if I don’t get that recipe I want I get candy corn or something that’s actually part of the halloween event. Make those recipes super rare from the bags, I don’t care. I’ll gladly play hours and hours and hours to try and get them.

Some of us enjoy variety , seeing that person with the extrodinarily good luck with an incredible weapon skin very few have , or those folks with tons of time to farm some item and craft and then get to show off what they earned.

Since early EQ days , I much preferred having actual rare and interesting things in game that not everyone can or will get.

I agree, rare things are great. However, when those rare things are basically “pay money at a chance for a rare thing” it’s not so great. Make them really rare drops or something, just not from the cash shop. That’s the only thing I want. I’ll gladly buy some cosmetic outfits/mini-pets/skins with real money and I will gladly play 50 hours over the next week to try and get some rare item… but I’m not going to toss $100 into the shop for a chance at a rare item.

Adding new Costumes and Mini-Pets for sale in the shop: Good, already bought them all.
Adding new random drops in trick or treat bags, available all over the world: Good, I love random items and it’ll be fun to collect all event long.
Adding new items to BLC: Good, these could use some more nice items.
Adding new Halloween exclusive skins: Good, I love collecting skins!
Making me pay to buy keys for a random chance at getting one of these 9 skins (and a ridiculously low chance at that), and for a limited time only: BAD

Random loot is great. Random items from the cash shop is not great, but it’s not too bad. Limited time, random items from the cash shop is awful.

I have already purchased the new mini-pets and most of the new cosmetic items in the shops, but I am not very happy with the new limited time skins in the Black Lion Chests. I am a collector, and I was planning on getting everything from the event. I have a ton of time to play over the next week and I had some gold/gems saved up, so I didn’t think that would be a problem. Now it looks like the chances that I’ll get ANY of the exclusive BLC skins are pretty low. I’ll be lucky to get even 1, let alone all of them.

The trick or treat bags are fine, I can buy them in the shop but they are also readily available elsewhere in game. However, I’ve seen a total of about 4 or 5 Black Lion Keys (excluding the few keys that came out of a chest I opened with another key) in my near 500 hours played with the game, so the only real option is to purchase them with gems. Gem prices are insane (luckily I had a bunch saved up already for all the costumes and stuff, and I’m willing to toss some cash at it as well) because of the event so unless I can spend dozens or hundreds of gold on gems or buy keys with real money the chances that I’ll see skins is low. If they added exclusive skins to BLCs that weren’t limited time it wouldn’t be a big deal, but now I have to try and spend a bunch of money over a short period of time and then hope to get lucky. I could even accept it if I was paying for a guaranteed skin, but a random one of the 9, rather than a tiny chance at even getting one.

I don’t want this to sound like I’m just whining. I love most of the event, and I’m so ridiculously excited for it all. The only issue I have is with the new limited time skins being added to the BLCs.

Reward for Effort; Non-Existant

…Since the main focus of the high level game is cosmetic items it would make sense for something like Griffonrook Run to give you some special weapons/armor pieces with unique cosmetic looks you can’t get anywhere else…

One might even argue that almost the entire game is about cosmetic items…most people can either craft or cheaply purchase the “stats” gear they want from the trading market; but if each puzzle had a unique skin reward there would be far greater incentive to do them.

The problem here is that art assets are one of the most time consuming things to make. Could they have 700 different skins for each and every thing you do in the game? Sure, but it would take them YEARS to get all the art for those done unless they were really simple re-skins, which then people would complain that the skins were too similar.

Reward for Effort; Non-Existant

in Suggestions

Posted by: Svenn.5209

Svenn.5209

The problem isn’t so much that you aren’t rewarded for your effort… but that you are rewarded for a lack of effort. It is so easy to get anything (other than a legendary) in this game that when you get a reward it’s most likely not going to be better than what you already have. All it takes is a couple silver at most levels to gear yourself up in full greens, and it’s no more than a few gold at 80 to get yourself decked out in exotics. From there, the only things left are cosmetic upgrades so the rest of the rewards in the game are essentially just money.

While I would like to see some better rewards all over the place, it’s hard to think of something that wouldn’t require a reworking of major game mechanics to actually implement. Since the main focus of the high level game is cosmetic items it would make sense for something like Griffonrook Run to give you some special weapons/armor pieces with unique cosmetic looks you can’t get anywhere else, even if the stats suck. I think that’s a pretty good compromise for rewards. Other options would be non-equipment items such as mini-pets or something. The problem with all of this then is that it requires a lot of new art assets, which is not something that can be done quickly or easily.

How to make classes more flexible, roles, trinity...

in Suggestions

Posted by: Svenn.5209

Svenn.5209

I have to say that I disagree with most of your post. The combat, for me, is the most fun part of the game. It’s the most well done combat I’ve seen in an MMO in a long time. All of the classes have been interesting to me. I’m the type of person that hates alts, but everything plays so different in GW2 that I’ve been playing an alt of just about every class.

I have to disagree with your assessment that boons are not noticeable as well. When I pop on several stacks of might (or, alternately, apply several stacks of vulnerability to an enemy) I notice quite a bit of increase in my damage. When I pop swiftness I can maneuver much better. When I get Aegis it’s very obvious that I just blocked an attack, etc etc. Some effects are obviously going to be more noticeable than others, but they are all useful and you can tell when you have them versus when you don’t.

As for roles/trinity… I am so glad they’ve gotten away from the traditional roles. You can still specialize if you would like, but it is never necessary. I’m not quite sure what you are asking here, because it’s already possible to somewhat specialize and have a very different play experience.

Except that in any area of the game you can find gear of your level. If you are level 80 and go back to a level 2 area you will find a mix of level 2 and level 80 gear. You can level from 1-80 in the same area and continuously upgrade your gear there. I spent most of level 1-60 in level 15-25 areas and I had no problem with it, and my gear was fine.

Actually, the party system works great. If you are solo you would normally need to do something like 10% damage to a mob to get credit for it. If you are in a party then your party needs to do 10% damage and you need to get at least 1 hit in to get credit for the mob.

As for quest completion rates… heart quests go by pretty quick, and I don’t see why one person should be rewarded for another person’s contribution.

I’ve been playing with a group of friends since level 1 and we’ve never had a problem with the party system.

there transmute stone you can buy in the cash shop to keep the skin and replace the stats on them

I know, and I even mentioned them in my post. The problem is not being able to use the skins, but storing them. I want to own all of the dungeon sets, for example. If I did, then my bank would be filled with just tons of sets of light armor and all of the different weapons. What I’m asking for is a way to save the skins for later use without wasting all of my bank space.

Then them cash shop item be useless. if they add that. they have to make money as well lol if they did that that hurt the cash shop item

I recommend that you re-read the original post. I addressed this issue. I suggested multiple ways to still require these transmutation stones and even another item to add to the gem shop so they can make money as well. If anything this would give them more ways to make money from the gem store. I’m not asking for anything for free (and in fact I’m saying I would spend even more money if this were implemented), I am just asking for an easier way to store and track these items.

From the original post:
“Since this is a cosmetic thing that is already monetized (via transmutation stones) you could keep these same methods so people can’t circumvent the monetization, like unlocking the skins for unlimited uses but still requiring transmutation stones to apply the skin to a weapon/armor piece.”

there transmute stone you can buy in the cash shop to keep the skin and replace the stats on them

Improvements for Collectors

The Problem: I am the type of player who really enjoys collecting things in games, especially MMOs. After taking a look at the PvP Lockers I was excited at how easy it was to collect and organize all of your skins. Unfortunately, there is no equivalent for PvE so collecting skins is much more difficult. There is no good way to organize your skin collection, it eats up a TON of bank space, and you lose a skin every single time you transmute an item. Simply adding new PvE collection tabs for the various weapons/armor like in PvP could work, but I have a better idea.

The Solution: Skin Extractor Kits and a Skin Vendor. The Skin Extractor Kits would be purchased with gems, obtained from Black Lion Chests, or earned from daily/monthly achievements much in the same way as other items such as the Black Lion Salvage Kits. This special extractor kit would let you save the skin from an item for your character. So what happens when you save a skin? That’s what the Skin Vendor is for.
EDIT: Alternately, as stated below, the “Skin Extractor” could be a “Skin Salvage Kit” that destroys the item in the process so you can’t simply use an extractor then sell/salvage the armor or something to earn money off it after taking the skin.

The Skin Vendor (who could be located in your home instance, since we need more reasons to visit these) would simply give you free items with the skins that you have unlocked (similar to the Hall of Monuments vendor). These items would have no stats, just a generic item for the skin only. You could get any number of these (which would be soulbound, have no value, and be unable to be forged) and use a transmutation stone to apply the skin to any item you wanted.

Why This Works: Collectors are able to then have a good way to collect skins without too much hassle. They are automatically stored once extracted so no need to fill up the entire bank. You don’t lose a skin every time you want to use another one, so you can swap skins without worrying about losing one you like.

This also increases the amount of money to ArenaNet in two ways as well. People will be more likely to use transmutation stones (which are still required for the items from the Skin Vendor) to change their appearance knowing they are not losing any skins. In addition the collectors who want this convenience will pay for the Extractor Kits as well.

Example: I purchase the full Citadel of Flame armor set. I purchase a Skin Extractor from the Gem Store. I use the Skin Extractor on each piece of the Citadel of Flame armor set. I then purchase the full Arah armor set and use a Skin Extractor on each piece.

Now I go to my home instance and find the Skin Vendor. He now has a full set of Citadel of Flame and a full set of Arah items with no stats. I can “purchase” (for free) these items. I buy the Arah head piece. I then use a transmutation stone to transmute the skin from the no-stats skin item onto my current exotic head piece. Later on I decide I want to change my looks so I go back to this vendor and “purchase” the Citadel of Flame head piece. I then use a transmutation stone to transmute that onto the same headpiece as before, replacing my Arah appearance with the Citadel of Flame appearance. Since the Arah headpiece skin is still saved I don’t have to worry that transmuting over it will replace it (which would force me to go run Arah for enough tokens to buy it all over again), I can just go back to the skin vendor and get another copy and then use another transmutation stone (again, more money for ANet here, more convenience for me).

What do you guys think?

EDIT: Since it is a concern of some people that gear/money is not removed from the system this way the “Skin Extractor” could instead be a “Skin Salvage Kit” that destroys the item to permanently save the skin for you instead.

Concept of Level is pointless in GW2

The whole game is pretty easy overall. If you don’t replace your gear for many levels it can be a problem, but a simple trip to a karma vendor or the TP or something can quickly remedy that. As long as your gear isn’t more than about 10 levels outdated you are usually fine.

Also, it is very easy/quick to hit level 80 and get a set of exotic gear. That is equivalent to the level 20 in GW1.

Why doesn't Guild Wars 2 have more of a social appeal?

Because of the world servers system.

It splits up the player base in such a way you can’t even see or even talk to your other friends unless you lucked out and chose the right server when the game launched.

This game is its own worst enemy.

Uh, what? I have friends on like 6 different servers. They are all on my friends list. They are all in my guild. I can talk to them in guild or using whispers. I can sPvP with them. I can run dungeons with them. We can even meet up in Overflows and play together. The world servers have little meaning outside of WvW, and will mean even less when guesting is in.

I think the main problem is that there is no need for communication in most cases (unless you are running a dungeon or doing WvW). There is near constant action if you want it so people just run around killing and doing events and stuff while never bothering to even look at the little chat box in the corner. Other games force players into interactions, but the only time this game does that is if you want to do a dungeon.

Will there be free items for Halloween?

I am perfectly fine with purchasing items in the gem shop. I am perfectly fine with random chance loot items for the event. However, these need to be separate. If you have to use gems to purchase an item that has a CHANCE to give you the event item you want… that’s a problem. Again, it’s cool to have costumes and stuff that I can purchase in the gem shop, but I want what I’m paying for. If there are going to be random loot boxes they should be obtainable through gameplay. I’m really hoping that the mini-pets are individual purchases and not a random chance from the regular mini-pet box.

That being said… for those people complaining about real money needed, remember that you can convert gold to gems. Real money is never needed to purchase anything, it is simply a shortcut.

You can communicate with the enemy by simply targeting them then typing /invite to invite them in your party. Once in a party together you can party chat with them, despite being on opposite teams. I’ve used this a few times to talk to some people on opposing teams in WvW.

It’s upsetting to see so many people, who poured 500+ hours into the game already, complain about a supposed lack of “end game”. While it does seem like gw2 doesn’t cater to these hardcore gamers as much, I’m glad that I have a game which I know I will still be playing and enjoying for years to come.

If it makes you feel any better… I have 440 hours played and I’m still loving it. I’ll be playing for a long time.

My spouse and I have been playing these games for well over a decade (my spouse has 16 years under his belt, starting with The Realm in ‘96). We’re just tired of the genre as a whole – some things have changed over time, others have not. It’s just getting near retirement time for us, I think.

The Realm! Still one of my favorites! I’m the opposite of you guys, though. I’ve been playing MMOs for 15+ years and it is still my favorite genre. I would like to see the genre evolve a bit more (I’m not really a big fan of theme park MMOs typically, and that’s what we seem to get from every new AAA MMO, gimme more sandbox!) and even would prefer something a bit more hardcore than what we typically see.

Actually, it would be more accurate that I’m interested more in seeing a living, breathing MMO sandbox world with lots to do and little direction rather than the linear progression and static worlds of most games. That’s why I can have a lot of fun with Guild Wars 2 despite it actually being a theme park MMO… the dynamic events are a really good evolution headed in the direction of a living, dynamic world.

The lack of a NEED to play the game is amazingly refreshing. I find myself still playing anywhere from 3-8 hours a night, but I never feel bad just putting it down for a day or two or only playing for 30 minutes here and there if I’ve got something else going on.

As far as I’m concerned they removed the addiction without removing the fun. That means it can be what a video game is supposed to be… fun to play whenever you have the time for it, and not a second job.

Just turned 20 and I can’t get enough of GW2.

Only other games that came close or are on level to my GW2 addiction are Monster Hunter (since 2004), GW1 (Off and on over the years, starting in beta), and Diablo 2(ooooof course)! =P

Monster Hunter and Diablo are two of my favorite game franchises of all time. Glad to see other people enjoying them (especially Monster Hunter).

Honestly though, I couldn’t get into GW1 at release. I bought it and didn’t make it past level 4 or so. Came back a year or two ago and got 50/50 HoM and GWAMM though.

Will we get announcements prior to the One-time Events?

MMOs are NOT single player games. It’s a whole world that continues on when you aren’t there playing. You are not entitled to every little thing that ever happens. Unless there’s some crazy one time reward for it then it’s not like you’re even missing much of anything. If an event happened and you never knew about it then I’m betting you could still be happy with the game. Also just because you don’t have a lot of play time doesn’t mean you can’t stumble onto an event. You won’t see EVERY event, but it’s still possible you’ll hit some randomly. Do you get mad when a radio station gives away tickets to your favorite band if you happened to be standing in the right place at the right time or something?

This is the best thing they could possibly do. MMO worlds are so static and while they have made some progress on that front it’s not a fully dynamic world yet. These events help give the feeling of a living world. If you happen to be around at the time of an event, it’s awesome. If not, it’s not like the rest of the game now sucks or something.

It really annoys me how people try to push these single player game perspectives into MMOs so often. MMOs SHOULD be a living worlds where things can and do change without your interaction. Other players should be able to affect the world in ways that can affect you. That would make MMOs truly persistent online worlds instead of the same static stuff we get from every other genre.

I love the star, but it’s a dead giveaway in WvW for many reasons, but especially because it shows up through walls. It would be nice to be able to turn it off when I’m WvWing so I don’t get targeted first/spotted through walls.

Well, I’m a completionist. I can’t help it. Hopefully they change it so that it’s not visible through walls, because that sucks.

Also I managed to get Crag, so now I’ve just got Redbriar and Greenlake left.

Hah, sneaking in just worked. Henge broke down the gate to JQ’s Garrison and I snuck up to the top to grab the Vista.

Okay, just 3 PoIs left… JQ/HoD guys, if you see a lone SBI guy wave to you as you’re assaulting Redbriar, Greenlake, or Cragtop don’t kill him. That’s just me waiting for the PoI. I’ll even help you take it if that’s what it takes.

Yes, I’m on Stormbluff along with my guild and all of my friends. I don’t want to leave it for 24 hours just to finish this, so if I have to wait I will. I’d rather just take the bases or something but it’s just not happening.
