Some fun ideas in here, we’re also actively discussing ways on how we’d best like to alleviate having to make players choose between having better stats, or using magic find. It’s not a choice that’s great for game play and there isn’t really anything that fun about it, even more so when group composition is taken into account. Ideally we’d also like to keep the ability to slowly build your magic find over time, but doing this at the cost of using better stats isn’t the right way to do that.
No ETA on any changes here, just want to point out we agree there is an issue here that goes against what we want Gw2 to be, and is something we want to address.
How about being able to use extra Skill Points to increase your magic find, up to a cap? Add an item to Miyani for skill points that when consumed permanently increases your magic find by 1%. This requires players to progress to continue to increase their MF, but doesn’t lock them into any one specific thing. It also doesn’t introduce any new currencies (there are already WAY too many currencies in game).
I love this idea! The specific dungeon rewards could be removed so that they are still rare and time sensitive, but the content would still be available in some form. It would also mean fractals would be continuously evolving and be more interesting.
Someone else mentioned on Reddit that the holiday dungeons could be added as “rare” fractals as well. It would be awesome to be doing fractals and on a very rare occasion end up in the Mad King’s dungeon!
i asked my friend to de-armor themselves and jump off a cliff a bunch of times.
No one sees the problem with this? This is the type of thing that dailies promote… It’s been happening in sPvP for a long time (ever notice how all the players rush to the capture points and all stand there at the beginning of a match instead of actually going out and trying to win?).
Is it true that u only get one laurel/day/account?
I think its per character, as each can complete a daily. But otherwise yes. Monthlies reward 10 laurels, starting with the Feb Daily
Nope, dailies are account wide, not per character.
I think it would be impossible to find 5 things in this game that everyone finds “fun” to do for this….
heck even if they made it get the daily for just logging in you would get someone complaining “but it’s no fun to log in every day!!!”
Actually, the forced login every day is exactly my problem. It’s not that I want to be rewarded without playing or something, quite the opposite. I want to be rewarded for my play time, not punished for when I’m not playing.
I can play 10-16 hours some days. Other days I have other things to do. I am punished, however, for playing in large chunks rather than spreading it out. On the days I can play 16 hours I receive the same amount of laurels as someone who plays 1-2 hours. It’s a cheap artificial limitation and has nothing to do with how well I play or even how much I play… just WHEN I play.
Allow me to repeat the dailies so I can be rewarded for my playtime past the first hour or two and I have no problem with it.
Limitations? U play one day, u get the reward. Cant careless if you play 3/6/9 or 12h. If you play 12 in 1 day on a week you cant get as much as one guyes who plays 2h everyday.
Again, what is good about this? I play 5 days for 10 hours each in a week, someone else plays 7 days for 2 hours a day each that week. The person with 2 hours a day is more rewarded than me? Why? It’s a stupid artificial time limitation. I shouldn’t have to go “Well, I played my 2 hours today, now I can’t progress on that anymore because the game simply won’t let me. Why? No real reason, I’m just not allowed to make progress more than once a day.” This is the same thing that facebook games do. It’s NOT good game design.
1) You get that on WvW or doing a dungeon. Or in Orr events. Period.
2) Dont blame the system if a guy who plays 2h a day can get the same as you if you play 10h.
1) Then why do we need dailies? You’re getting your fun from somewhere else, NOT from the dailies.
2) Don’t blame the system? The system has artificial limitations imposed on me earning rewards and I’m supposed to not blame the system? lol
Someone on reddit had a great idea that would alleviate my issues… dailies should be weeklies instead. They function just like dailies but you can complete them up to 7 times within the week, at any time. I don’t have a problem with the monthly because I have enough time to complete it without feeling like I have to log in every single day. If I could log in one day and play for 10 hours and finish all the “dailies” for the week, that would be way better. It wouldn’t fix the issue that dailies are just not fun, but it would help.
Knox, you missed the point.
1) What is “fun” about “dodge 15 attacks”? Or “revive 10 allies”? I fail to see where the fun comes in.
2) I don’t want anything for free, and I am in fact asking for the opposite. Sometimes I can play 10 hours one day and sometimes I am lucky to sneak in an hour. I’d rather that when I played for 10 hours I was able to actually make progress towards things like Ascended Amulets. I’d also rather that progress be something challenging or that takes skill rather than “do these 5 mundane tasks today”.
I have fun actually playing the game. The problem is that dailies contradict my ideas of having fun and are the only way I can get a bunch of rewards, including Ascended Amulets.
And u just log in to get that reward ? Or u log in to play with ur friends and during that u get the daily done? Seriously, am i reading all of this QQ?
Many, many people log in just to get the daily done so they don’t fall behind that day. Sometimes I don’t have much time to play and I don’t log in to play with friends that day, I just log in to do the daily since it’s just a time limited reward and I can’t catch up on it later.
I log on one day and I play 16 hours. The next day I don’t log on. Another player logs on 2 days in a row for 2 hours each time. He gets double the progress I get towards an Ascended amulet. Why is this good?
The other bad thing about dailies is that it is essentially just a time limited reward. Want an Ascended amulet? Just make sure you log in for an hour or so every day for 30 days. This isn’t “fun”.
Dailies in general are a terrible idea. First of all, they completely go against the “play how you want”.
How is this true? You don’t have to do dailys.
Does no one play for fun anymore?
You do if you want Ascended Amulets, or the new infusions, or any of the new rewards exclusive to laurels.
Dailies in general are a terrible idea. First of all, they completely go against the “play how you want”. Not only are dailies not fun, and now being forced on us for all these new rewards, but they also prevent me from playing when I want. How I want to play is to log in and do what is fun… not run around trying to make sure I kill 13 different enemies, making sure I complete 5 events, etc every single day. If I want to just log in one day and only do some dungeons then I miss out on the daily rewards. If I want to not log in one day I miss out on laurels, even if I log in another day and play 15 hours. In fact, dailies have the opposite effect and make me want to log off and not log back in.
Also, the new dailies have the side effect of causing weird behavior from players as they try and get their rewards. People allowing others to go down so they can get credit for reviving them? People running in circles around a single enemy dodging him until they get credit for that daily? That’s the kind of stuff I’m seeing and it’s a detriment to the game. This is even worse in PvP where they never should have added dailies. Ever notice how there are now 7 people trying to cap every point? Yeah, they just want their 3 caps for the daily. This doesn’t promote sPvP, it makes people do stupid things that is detrimental to the gameplay overall.
This game has way too many things on daily timers and daily achievements, now that they have TWO unique currencies (mystic coins and laurels), just are a terrible idea all around.
Actually, re-reading his quote again makes me think: laurel obtained ascended items may or may not be included in future releases. Thats concerning. Keep it in laurels, and fractals, and add it to WvW too.
This is what concerns me. They love splitting up stat combos and tossing them all over the place. With exotics some combos only come from crafting, some only come from dungeons, some come from Karma and some are from WvW. You can’t get all the combos from the same place. That’s not normally a problem, though.
Now, take that and make it so that the stat combos are all over the place, but now only SOME combos have agony resist and others don’t. It just becomes a huge mess, people who are doing fractals are stuck with a subset of combos that they can use for fractals… I just don’t want to see that happen.
(edited by Svenn.5209)
You know… there’s a Mystic Forge recipe to upgrade rings without native Agony resist; who’s to say we won’t be able to upgrade the amulets as well in the Mystic Forge?
The panic… it is premature.
Honestly, the amulets don’t matter. We can’t get those with native agony resist any other way, so even if they can’t be upgrade it’s fine.
The problem is rings where you’ll have a split between “Agony Ascended Rings” and just “Ascended Rings”. This only becomes a problem when one stat combo is available on one and not the other. All we’re asking for is a few simple clarifications.
1) Can Laurels rings be upgraded using the Mystic forge to have innate Agony Resist?
2) Are the stat combos on Laurels rings identical to those in Fractals?
If the answer to either of those is yes, there isn’t a problem.
Again, this is the debate I was having with the other guy.
If you are a player that loves to run fractals, and oure at fractal level..40. High end fractals. Yet, you dont want to grind out against the RNG monster for the infused pieces. Thats a classic case of “I want to have my cake and eat it too”. You want to run high lvl fractals, but not suffer the work to get there. This also defeats the purpose of what arenanet intended with ascended gear in the first place. Bridging the TIME gap between exotic and legendary.
Having ascended gear available via laurels is simply a way for non-fractal running folk, and even some fractal folks who arent insanely serious about fractals, to get BiS gear. BiS meaning, the traditional stats of power, precision, crit, etc.
Consider this: The current ascended gear, you can get a grand total of…30 AR? With 30 AR, and the fractals being “endless” in level…did you really think you could endlessly grind up to fractal level 50, 60, or70? If anyone has done that, they probably wiped a billion times, or died so much. The current amount of AR in the game only allows you to get to maybe…40,45 or so, until it becomes extremely difficult, borderline impassable. So there is a “soft cap” on the fractal levels after all, imo.
We don’t know what the stats are on the Laurels rings yet. If the Laurels rings have say Power/Precision/Vitality, that combo isn’t available from Fractals rings. So I want to wear this Power/Precision/Vitality Ascended ring… except it’s worthless to me in the high fractals because I can only ever 5 agony resist on it instead of 10 on it. So now I have to carry around a special Ascended Ring specifically from Fractals with a different stat combo (not the one I wanted), just so I can have the agony resist to progress. THAT is a problem as I now have a “Best in Slot” item that is not good enough for what I want to do.
Again, if all the stats are identical to ones you can get from the Fractals rings then this whole thing is moot. But that’s why we’re trying to clarify. Also, if you can take a Laurels ring and use mists essence from Fractals to upgrade it into an Infused version so you can get 10 Agony resist on it (still requires lots of fractals runs to upgrade) then that also is fine. If there are different stat combos on Laurels rings versus Fractals rings AND there is no way to upgrade Laurels rings to have the full 10 agony resist then that is poorly designed.
Svenn, why couldn’t you use the laurel ascended item in a fractal? The items are going to be the same, and I think Colin confirmed that in this post. Read up a page or so. You’ll be able to wear the laurel ascended items in fractals. Why wouldnt you?
You CAN wear it, but you’ll lose out on some agony resist. The Fractals rings come in infused version with 5 agony resist built in, PLUS you can slot 5 agony resist on it for a total of 10 on one ring. So far with the info we have the rings from Laurels ONLY allow you to slot 5 agony resist, and does not come with it built in. That means you’ll have half the agony resist of someone with a fractals ring, which will become a problem in later fractals.
Now, this isn’t really a problem if either you can use the normal upgrade recipe to add the built in 5 agony resist to Laurels rings OR if the Laurels rings are all identical in stat combos to the Fractals rings (you still wouldn’t be using the Laurels rings in Fractals, but you wouldn’t miss out on any stat combos). This is what we’re trying to get clarified.
Again,
If you want ascended gear with built in infusion, then youre sights are aimed at high fractal levels. So go run fractals. They are making ascended gear, without built in infusions, available via laurels so people are STATTED on equal footing, even if they dont run fractals. The infusion part of ascended gear is specific to fractals ONLY. So if you want ascended with built in infusion, then that tells me you are someone who wants to run fractals because that “upgrade” is specific to fractals.
If you do not run fractals, you do not need ascended with built in infusion.
I see no problem here.
Can people please calm down about this?
you don’t seem to understand the point, this was supposed to allow players to get BIS outside of farming fractals, if it doesn’t have the inherent AR then its not BIS its that simple and creates a sub teir if it cant be upgraded, as you will still have to grind lower level fractals and fight rng to get the stats you want if you want to dip into later fractals for a challenge or because guildies need +1
it does nothing to mend the fracturing of the player base people will still have trouble finding geared players to attempt the dungeon with since there is no AR on the gear, (infusions will help to some extent) youll still only have 50% of the infusion at most as someone who farms fractals, less when higher rarity infusions are released. then you have to grind lower level fractals (if you can find anyone to play them) to get a new set of gear with 100% AR.
I still dont see the problem, but not because I am shortsighted. I just dont see it as a problem.
From your two posts I gather that you, or this hypothetical person, wants to run high end fractals where ascended with built in infusions is almost required. Yet, you dont want to run fractals to get this gear. Gear that…is only BIS for fractals/high end fractals. You do not need +10 AR and some offensive stat for anything but fractals.
So what you’re saying is, you want to be able to purchase already infused ascended gear via a nice, easy, calm, no pressure way via daily and monthlys. You want to be able to sleepwalk through these dailys, which they most likely will be if current dailys and monthlys are any indication, in order to SIDESTEP a fractal grind for infusions that are only relevant to fractals.
I dont see your logic.
All I see is:
I want to be able to get BiS gear without grinding fractals so that I can join high level fractal groups.
I dont want to fractal grind. This means, I dont want to spend 1.5 hr per day to grind out fractals against RNG. This is too hard because fractals CAN be difficult at times, and RNG does suck.
I want to walk through the green fields of Kessex hills, kill some centaurs, and complete the monthly achievement. Then I can get the infused ascended, to go do those high end fractals.Sounds like you want the easy way out. Not trying to be rude or insulting, but that is pretty much how I see this.
This will only be a problem if the rings you get from Laurels are not the same stat combos as the ones from Fractals. Why? Here are a couple reasons:
1) If you want a certain stat combo and it’s only available via Laurels then you can’t use it in Fractals. In that case you’ll have to carry around multiple sets of gear, one specifically for fractals with the stat combo you don’t really want… and then another set of gear for the actual stats you want everywhere else. This is my main concern. You should never be forced to have a specific set of gear different than your normal gear to progress in a specific location.
2) On the flip side, if you want a stat combo and it’s only available in fractals then you’re forced into doing that. I see this as less of a problem, but it would go against the “play wherever/however you want” philosophy which would bug some people.
We don’t know just yet what the stats will be, so it might not be a problem.
The bigger problem that I see is that they are slowly removing customization as we upgrade to Ascended gear without slots for Gems/Jewels. Which also makes me wonder what’s going to be done for Jeweler to make up for this… Our socketable items are becoming worthless since they can’t be socketed in Ascended gear.
(Please note, the ascended gear purchased for laurels will not have agony resistance built in, since that mechanic is currently unique to progression in the fractal dungeons. They are however statistically the same as any other ascended gear.)
So what you are saying is that in order to progress high into Fractals where you need lots of Agony resist you’ll have to be wearing gear FROM Fractals to ensure that you have good enough resists. Which means that if I don’t like those stats I’ll have to carry around a set of regular gear and a set of gear specifically for doing Fractals?
I hope not, because that is terrible and one of the big concerns a lot of people had back when agony was first mentioned. It’s bad enough that the customization of gear+socket was removed from these items, but now we’ll have gear that is specifically suited for Fractals versus gear from other places on top of it.
he already replied that laurel purchased gear CAN be infused with agony resist
Right, but if it only has the slot and can’t be upgraded to have the slot AND the built-in agony resist, that means we’ll be sitting with half the agony resist of Fractals gear.
If it can be upgraded via some Mystic Forge recipe like the regular rings and stuff that’s fine then.
(Please note, the ascended gear purchased for laurels will not have agony resistance built in, since that mechanic is currently unique to progression in the fractal dungeons. They are however statistically the same as any other ascended gear.)

Just tried to run this again for the second time and both times we’ve had this Lupi bug. The first time we definitely fought Lyssa without bugging her out. Both times Randall was dead when we entered Lupi’s room though, then he teleported in behind us. The cutscene never plays out though and Lupi is not attackable.
I was pretty excited for this Tixx the Toymaker event, and i also thought that the extra days in LA were so people could earn all 5 pets if they played every day of the event. But since we can only earn 2/5 through actual gameplay (ie. Why i bought this game) i guess the whole tixx event is just a cash shop advertisement. Give us a taste and make us buy the rest. Maybe A-net should just replace the word “event” with “new items in stock!” because 90% of their events are cash shop promotions.
Agreed. This is seriously stupid. I don’t mind some stuff in the shop but there’s like $60+ worth of stuff, plus random chests where you have to get lucky to even get the rewards with real money… and they can’t even give us these 5 pets? Seriously?
Collectors get royally screwed yet again. I’ve been one of the biggest fans of GW2 since the start hailing it as one of the best (if not THE best) game of the last decade and bringing a lot of friends with me. I had plans to play this game for years, but this stuff just makes me want to stop playing right now. Why bother playing when the only way to get half the stuff is to toss tons of cash at the gem shop? I gladly tossed a good bit of money at the shop early on and I would love to continue to do so… but I can’t support these stupid business practices.
(edited by Svenn.5209)
I really do love this game, but they sure make it hard on collectors. Collecting will keep me playing a game for years, but when there are exclusives I can’t get that pushes me away. It’s bad enough that I can’t even collect all the holiday skins and stuff because of the way they are distributed (Black Lion Chests, Consortium Chests) unless I happen to be ridiculously rich. On top of that it’s impossible for me to collect everything anyway because there is more stuff to collect than possible bank space. And armor skins would be great to collect, except I have to destroy part of my collection if I ever want to actually use them.
And now this. I look at this and all I see is an item I’m not allowed to have, ever, simply because I bought the game (Digital Deluxe) at release. If I’m not actually ever going to be able to collect things then that’s just a nice push away for me.
Seriously, please consider at least putting this in the gem store. Collectors have a hard enough time already without knowing that we’re just simply not allowed to have some items.
This is such a good idea! I love collecting skins, but I just have nowhere to put them now. This sounds like a perfect way to implement an ability for all of us collectors to go crazy. ANET, please implement this!
Just, one more thing to add: a tab for town clothes/costumes. The only reason that I haven’t bought any of them from the gem store yet is because I don’t have enough storage to keep the skins around!
I would probably buy every single town clothes item on the store if I had a good way to store them! This definitely needs to be an option.
Yes! A million times this! I suggested something similar a while back. We NEED this. I really want to collect skins, but it’s incredibly difficult right now.
ArenaNet, if you are looking for ways to extend game length this will do it for many players. Add an official way of collecting something and players will do it. I want to collect ALL of the skins but with how difficult it is to collect, and actually use, these skins currently I’m just not even bothering.
Make the skins per character (like dyes) and require a transmutation stone every time you want to use them. I guarantee you’ll see more players using transmutation stones to change their looks knowing they aren’t losing the old skin that is being overwritten.

So I was just destined to get terrible GW2 loot drops from the beginning of time… sigh
I did ask a yes or no question… so I guess I deserved that.
Maybe Kyosji could have elaborated a bit haha. I mean, you did write a pretty long post that deserves more than a “No.”
Yea this has also happens to me, although when I first start doing a certain activity (like event farming in Cursed Shores or when I first started FotM) I will get quite a few rares and some exotics. After awhile, however, I’ll just end up getting blues. Really disappointing. I feel like RNG laughs at me, a lot.
Sounds like diminishing returns to me. We don’t have any solid data on this as far as I know, but it’s really disappointing. I play often, and for long periods (regularly 6+ hours an evening after work most days) so I’m starting to wonder if my crappy loot is just serious diminishing returns from playing too much. It really sucks if I’m being punished for playing too much.
I’m saying that I never have gotten as good of loot as when I first started doing the activity. Even if I wait a few days and go back to that activity.
Yeah, that seems to be about what I’m seeing. I really am starting to wonder if the diminishing returns aren’t ever fully going away (or take WAY too long to return to normal)… so the more you play the less loot you can expect to see.
I did ask a yes or no question… so I guess I deserved that.

Let me preface this by saying that I am usually the last person to cry foul when it comes to RNG. I absolutely love randomness, especially when it comes to loot. It is my favorite system. I believe there are good streaks and bad streaks and most of the time when someone complains it’s just the luck of the numbers that is at fault. Also, I absolutely love GW2 and it’s one of my favorite games in a long time.
However, I’m starting to wonder if there isn’t something else going on behind the scenes here (intentional or not). I have played 651 hours to date. Over the last couple months I’ve noticed some things with loot that may be coincidence but are really starting to hurt my desire to play. From my experience, characters with less play time get better drops.
Why do I think this? I play every single day (I haven’t missed a daily yet). My loot has been terrible. I regularly run with 180-200 MF. Comparing with several of my friends/guildmates I consistently get less/worse loot in everything we do. On the other hand, one of my friends that plays often but not as much as I do gets plenty of good loot. We spend time in Orr playing together regularly and he turns up far more yellows with significantly less MF than I have just about every time.
The first time I really noticed this though was during the Halloween event. I spent several days (and probably 40+ hours) farming Mad King’s Ascent. In that time I noticed that the friends I had with me who had the least amount of time playing got the best loot. Those of us (level 80) that spent days farming pulled out zero Mad King’s pieces. My level 15 friend pulled out 2 in a single run and then 1 just about every run after that. Near the end of the event I decided to test out a theory. I logged on to a level 20ish alt and ran a few runs. Within the first 3 runs I pulled out 2 Mad King’s pieces. My other friend who had been running on his level 80 swapped to an alt as well and within a run or two he also found a Mad King’s piece. Strange coincidence within a very small sample size. Oh well.
This weekend I was on all weekend, probably clocking in 35-40 hours from Friday-Sunday. I also opened over 60 Consortium chests. From the Consortium chests I received 1 Southsun Mask and every single other chest had a shoulder/breathing mask skin in it. From the final event reward chest I received 2 crappy exotics totaling maybe 4g. A level 70 guildmate pulled out TWO of the same precursor from the chest. Another friend who missed at least a whole day of the event logs in, opens a handful of consortium chests and gets 2 mini-pets, then kills a random drake and gets another mini-pet. He pulls a precursor out of the final event chest as well. I found out this morning that he had a few random skins left and made 2 more consortium chests last night and pulled yet ANOTHER mini-pet from it.
We ran fractals and the same friend that pulled the 3 minipets and precursor (also the same friend that pulls more yellows farming orr with less MF than me on a regular basis) pulls a Vial of Condensed Mists Essence in his 4th or so fractal. I managed to get one after my 10th. He also was pulling yellows from every other chest while I don’t think I’ve seen anything better than a green (maybe I got a yellow once) from all of my fractal chests. This is consistent with our dungeon runs over the last 2 months as well where he pulls yellows regularly and I pull mostly blues.
At this point I have to wonder if I hit some serious diminishing returns that are not going away (I try to take breaks from the game, PvP for a bit, swap to alts occasionally, etc to avoid any DR). Or maybe I should NOT be wearing magic find? Or maybe my character has a random seed that is just really unlucky? Am I looking for answers where there are none? The only time I seem to get any loot worthwhile is while playing a lower level alt, and I’m not much of an alt guy. It’s getting a bit disheartening watching the same people and brand new people repeatedly get better loot than I do at everything. I almost feel like my only option is to just abandon my main character, and I really don’t want to do that.
Again, I love this game and I love RNG systems but it just really feels like the loot has been less than random over the last couple months within my group of friends/guild. It’s almost predictable as to who will get anything worthwhile from anything we do.
Has anyone else noticed any trends?
I would love to see this expanded on. So far the Fractals is one of my favorite parts of the game. All of the fractals have interesting mechanics so expanding on those with some new mechanics would be great.
More fractals would also keep things interesting over long periods of time as people are running higher and higher difficulties.
Minis were available as drops, though. A friend of mine got one from a Karka during the event. These are really the only things I want and after 60+ chests (and a lot of gold spent) I’ve seen exactly 1 thing that WASN’T a shoulder/breathing mask skin (and it was the Southsun mask, which wasn’t worth much more). I’m really hoping the minipets are available as drops after this.
How long are the Consortium chests sticking around? Will we still be able to craft them in the Mystic Forge after they are removed from the store?
And for the items in these chests the patch notes said that the Lost Shores mobs have a rare chance to drop any of these items. Will this continue after the event or was that only for the weekend event?
I just decided to check the forums while taking a quick break from the game and I stumbled on this. I am very surprised by all the hate and calling this event a “failure”. As far as I’m concerned this whole thing has been amazing, and it’s one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a game.
From the time I got home from work yesterday I’ve been on and playing, minus a few hours of sleep. I’ve been with tons of guildmates and friends. We’ve all had a blast. We hit a few bugs here and there, but nothing so far has been that awful. They fixed up the Noll/Canach issues.
In most games you get a “Here’s a new zone” and plop it’s there with full camps and everything. Here we are going through this epic event (yeah, the Lion’s Arch event was a bit laggy, but once we got into Southsun it wasn’t bad at all) where we chase these new creatures out of our town and back to their home… and we’re running around with the NPCs setting up camps, helping clear paths and build bridges, etc. This is just simply incredible. I can’t think of another game that has something like this.
I just really do not like MF as an equipment mechanic. When it’s not replacing stats on gear I think it’s fine, but when you have to choose a tradeoff of stats versus MF it’s a terrible system. You need MF to get good drops so that you can get the “good” gear… but why would you ever then wear that “good” gear when wearing it means now you’ll greatly reduce your loot? The only time I can think of is when you are doing WvW and loot isn’t the primary concern.
Move MF to an alternate advancement type setup rather than a stat replacement and it would be much better. Look at Diablo 3’s paragon system… not only does it give players an incentive to play beyond max level (which ArenaNet has already stated they want to do) but it’s a way to remove MF from gear but still make it relevant.
How about being able to trade skill points for permanent MF boosts, or having a way to imbue existing armor with extra MF without replacing stats (crafted item, karma item, gold item, or even a skill point item), or something similar? This gives players something to work toward (without making them more powerful/introducing power creep), it keeps MF relevant, and MF is no longer “that stat that makes you worse in exchange for being greedy”.
Dear all people who dislike this change…tell me how 2-5 stats will effect your wvw or PvE experience? By that mark why aren’t you complaining that legendaries have a 1 damage point increase on exotics…clearly that 1 point of damage is making all the difference.
It’s 2-5 stats on only 1 item. How many items can you equip in the game? Multiply that by 2-5.
13 item slots. You’re looking at a total increase of less than 200 stats (assuming 6 stats per item at an increase of 2-3 per stat). You have a total of about 7k stats at level 80 with exotics. This is about a 2% increase, hardly noticeable.
In fact, your TOTAL stat gain from Ascended gear is about 1/5 of the amount of stat points you have as a BASE value for a SINGLE STAT at level 80 (916 is base before gear)
Anet failed to learn from other’s mistakes here. No only do they continue down the path of SWTOR, rift, aion, and others which have already been forgotten by making a wowclone “progression” treadmill, they directly copied a failed mechanic from one of the larger longer lived mmos: Lord of the Rings Online.
LotRO had a mechanic, Radiance, which was a stat used to offset a dungeon’s Gloom. This is identical to the Infusion/Agony mechanic as mentioned in the blog post.
Turbine eventually was forced to remove radiance as a mechanic because the players hated it so much that it was killing the game. The same thing will happen here. After playing Guild Wars since the release of Factions, this really is a slap in the face. I have lost a lot of respect for Anet.
Edit: Just take a look at Turbines blog post about removing Radiance/gloom

This is the only thing that worries me. Gating content by creating a specific mechanic with a specific armor/infusion required to beat it isn’t skill based at all, it’s just simple gating which is not fun.
The stats on the ascended armor though? 2 stats is nothing. Since you can already complete all content in the game in blues I don’t see the big deal.
“The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”
Except infusions don’t add stats. They add dungeon specific resistance to one mechanic.
So it is true, gear grind is now in and these new items are far better than exotics especially with infusion slots.
Time to reword the manifesto, ANet.
2 stats is “far better”? lol.
You might want to check out my post about this. I put up a very detailed solution on how to solve this problem.

I am guessing he is using the same email.
Probably, but again, I was under the impression that linking a GW1 and GW2 account was an optional thing… regardless of what email was used. We’ve been working on this for an hour now. He’s having trouble recovering his old GW1 account and the easiest solution at this point is to just not link them.
I sent a trial key to a friend but he’s having trouble actually registering an account. When he goes to register it won’t let him register without linking it to his GW1 account (which he thinks he had at some point, but he’s having trouble actually getting into it if he did have one).
At Step 1 he enters the cd key and selects “No” when asked if he has a Guild Wars account. At Step 2 he fills out all of his information (name, email, password, date of birth, etc) and then when he hits next it says that he has a GW1 account and has to link them, that is the only option. This sends him back to Step 1 again.
I was under the impression that linking accounts was optional. He has no reason to link them. How can he bypass this?
So ANET is now catering to the many screams of WoW sheep that want a new WoW instead of their core playerbase? Why? Just so these people can play the game for another month then complain they dont have anything more to do and then this kittentarts over again and again… the game doesnt have a sub so what justification is there for this kitten?
Vertical progression systems like infusion or the lightbringer buff were ok but better general stats that apply to each and every area of the game definitely are not.
How do you know it’s general stats? For all we know at this point it could be identical stats to exotics, but with an additional “+5% Damage to Karka Mobs” on it in addition or something.
This dungeon sounds awesome already. I LOVE endless content like this.
As for the stats… “slightly more powerful” shouldn’t be a big deal. I mean, if you get 3 more stats on a piece of armor, does that really make a difference when you’re in the thousands? I’m actually happy to see something more to work towards. If they start putting in multiple dungeons with increasing power for each one that requires the previous set to complete… then I’ll be upset.
Great idea. I also wish theyd add some sort of ‘Horde Mode’ (waves of increasingly stronger enemies). Signed
Not a PvP mode… but Horde mode (or Hero Siege for those of us who played the WC3 mods) is one of my favorite things too. I’d love to see an event like this. Perhaps where you get a buff after each wave (possibly choose from several buffs each wave) and you have to survive as long as possible… but now I’m getting way off topic.
You essentially just described the A/D control point mode and the 5 control point mode in Team Fortress 2. For that, +1.
Yeah, I knew there were other games with similar modes but it’s been so long since I played TF2 I forgot about it. I think converting some of the TF2 modes to sPvP would actually work pretty cool. The “escort the mining cart” (Payload?) mode would be really cool.

I love sPvP but it really needs more modes. I do enjoy conquest sometimes, but it can get a bit too “musical chairs”. There are plenty of options for other modes, including just a pure deathmatch or capture the flag, but there is one in particular that I would like to see: Rush mode from Battlefield (or at least something similar to it).
What is Rush Mode?
For those of you not familiar with Battlefield, Rush mode has a defending team and an attacking team. The attackers have to push into the defending team’s area and blow up 2 objectives. If they are successful, the defending team is pushed back to a new base area, the attackers are moved forward to the defender’s old base area, and the attackers have to push forward again to take out 2 more objectives. This repeats a couple times. The attackers have a limited number of lives (and are given a few more each time they push the defenders back) and if they run out they lose, but if they successfully push all the way back and blow up the last 2 objectives they win.
How would this work in GW2?
This would translate over pretty well, I think. The attackers would have to break into the defender’s base and complete one of a few objectives (things like killing a specific mob/NPC, channeling on something like a wheel to open a gate door, etc). If the attackers are successful then each team gets a new set of waypoints (and the old waypoints are disabled) at their new bases.
A single match could consist of 2 rounds with players being on both the attacking and defending sides. It might take some experimenting to figure out things like acceptable respawn times for attackers/defenders. There should also be multiple objectives at each step so that the defenders can’t all just bunker down on one.
Why Rush Mode?
It’s something different. Every game with PvP battlegrounds seems to have some form of CTF, Deathmatch, and/or Conquest. This is a mode you don’t see often. It lends itself really well to teamwork and cooperation. It is also something that is just incredibly fun on both sides, in my opinion.
Alternate Rush Game Type
Another possibility similar to this would be more of a push/pull oriented match in which there are something like 5 combat areas (with each end representing a team’s base) with only one being used at a time. The match starts in the middle and as a team completes the necessary objectives (probably capturing the other team’s current base) the match moves to the next combat area towards the other team’s base. Once one team has pushed all the way back into and captured the other team’s last base they win. This could potentially be a long game, but could be shortened with a time limit.
I really think they should just allow you to queue for all 4 zones at once. This would mean potentially a more even distribution of players in the long run and faster queue times in general.
They are ridiculously expensive for what you get. If there were other ways to get level 80 back pieces higher than greens it would make sense to have this be worth a lot of money for the cosmetic looks… but currently it seems to be the ONLY option we have for back pieces. 5g isn’t a ton of money, I know, but it’s really only a few more stats than the piece you get free from the storyline.
