That’s an interesting iteration of the past that… didn’t happen. You were not interested in a 1v1 until after we wiped you 2v3. At that point, it doesn’t matter what you say, we’re not going to entertain your requests. Had you been cordial, like most of the people on your server, prior to the 2v3, that’d be great, but no, you were proudly chest thumping after a 2v6. We are not going to give you the opportunity to redeem yourself after acting so childish.

You didn’t “win” any fair fight. There was never a scenario where the cards were not heavily stacked in your favor. The was never a 3v3. I’m assuming you’re talking about the fight where there were 3-4 (two warriors, an engi, and a mesmer) of you in melee range with the rest back in the camp firing ballista and treb shots at us? That does not constitute a 3v3. As far as stealth ressing goes, I don’t know how I could’ve possibly stealth ressed anyone after you placed the second stealth trap on me.

Honestly, we don’t even really care. It’s WvW. It’s not always fair. We play to the best of our abilities and if we win, great. If we don’t, we try to improve. However, one thing we do not do is play silly games with people who resort to name-calling and trash talking on the forums and in whisper chat. I’m sorry we couldn’t come to a resolution, but I wish you the best of luck, and again, I hope one day you mature and learn how to play with others. Until then, [OHai] will not be fulfilling any requests from you.

[OHai] is actually a pretty small guild. It is very rare that we have more than one party on a map at any given time. At the very most we might have two full parties, but again, that’s unusual for us. We’ve never had more than that. With that said, we are outnumbered more often than not. That’s fine. We actually prefer to be outnumbered as fighting against the odds is just more fun. However, to say that we run from fights isn’t entirely fair. We don’t run from even numbers. When we’re outnumbered 2 to 1, our first reaction isn’t to get away. We want to try to win those kinds of fights. We run when we see the entire zerg coming for us. So, while I know that everyone in this thread has been nothing but friendly and no one has said anything about [OHai] with malice, I just wanted to make it clear to those who haven’t seen us fight that we’re not just ganking some random uplevel and then fleeing at the sight of others. It’s quite the contrary. I’ve been looking for 1v3-5 all afternoon. That isn’t to say that I will win any of the fights I come across, but I would rather try to win a 1v4 and fail than kill some random person trying to get to a tower 1v1. Of course, I do kill solo people trying to get from point A to point B, but it’s not exactly the thrill I’m looking for. With that said, I’ve had some pretty fun encounters today. More roamers please.

I was showing a new guy around today and you ganged him. You can imagine how someone trying to get people into WvW would be annoyed by something like that. Oh, no, you didn’t sound like you were attacking us. I get what you’re saying too. It’s not something you wanna experience your first time in WvW, for sure. However, after roaming through an empty map for what seems like a lifetime, the keep/spawn is usually the first place we go. It’s just the easiest place to look for a fight. For the most part, this matchup has been very zerg-oriented (again, nothing wrong with people who zerg). You find a group of 50 people or one person running alone. So contesting a WP and waiting for people to come out is one of the only ways to get a fight that isn’t completely one-sided. It’s unfortunate that it is that way, but that’s just how it’s been going. We wouldn’t do any of that if we were finding manageable groups elsewhere. I’m sorry if we traumatized a new WvWer. There is just very little we can do about that kinda thing. We’ll take what we can get. Regardless, that kind of thing is going to happen no matter who you fight.

Haha. Come on, this is silly. The only time we spawn camp is when we can’t find anyone else to fight because the whole enemy server is in one massive zerg or in a tower shooting us with siege. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if we can’t find a good fight roaming, we will start one. We rarely have more than 5 people, so it isn’t like either Kain or DH lack the numbers to push us away. As far as killing upscales, if it’s red, it’s dead. We don’t prey on or specifically target upscales. In any event, we’re just here to have fun. Spawn camping aside, we rarely troll unless provoked. So, that’s really all I can say about that.

First, I just want to establish that we can have a discussion as rational adults without getting upset. Your condescending tone really isn’t necessary. MethaneGas replied to your post with his thoughts on necro mobility and how he feels it is underrated. He has offered help and has made an attempt to better the necro community. This isn’t something to be taken lightly. You have a problem, and he wanted to help you fix it. You may disagree with his advice, and that’s fine, but please, be respectful. We are all people here, not faceless forumers.

It is really unfortunate that you felt the need to be so petulant. To say that it’s easier to kill the people in the videos than it is to kill an NPC is silly. An NPC reacts the same way every time you fight it. You cannot be outplayed by an NPC. That isn’t to say that PvE is a cake walk by any means, but your assertion is just silly, and it unnecessarily belittles other players who are, again, human beings that deserve to be treated with respect. You and I both know that if you put your average player in those situations, they would likely falter. It is really rude of you to suggest that he is only successful in the game because he is playing against “the bottom of the barrel.” I am really disappointed. MethaneGas is clearly an excellent player, and it’s just sad that you would prefer to be condescending and rude to someone who is just offering advice.

As far as the general discussion has gone, the necromancer was not designed to have mesmer-like mobility. The necromancer is the attrition class. It is intended to get into a fight a wittle down it’s opponents with conditions until they die. The necromancer has the highest health pool in the game and it’s class mechanic gives it even more sustainability. However, these things come at a cost. Necromancers lack vigor, decent stability, and easy access to mobility. Every class (except warriors, evidently) has it’s pitfalls. I main an elementalist. I play the only class with the lowest base health and lowest base armor. However, I also have great healing, mobility, etc. If I take a backstab from a thief, it’s likely going to be at least 50% of my health if not 60-70% depending on the thief, and I am in a really tanky build (almost 3k armor). On the necro, you take a backstab, and it might be 30% of your overall health. If you and the thief are both glassy, it might hit as much as 50%, but rarely more than that. I also play a glass, one-trick-pony thief and the necromancer is the only class I have never two-shot (uplevels excluded). That isn’t to say that necro is superior to ele or vice versa, but it’s just an example of how each class has a specific design and that comes with different advantages and disadvantages. If the necromancer had the same easy access to mobility that the other classes have, it would probably make them a little too strong, to be honest.

I am not going to respond to anything after this post, but I hope you consider the things that I’ve said, and I hope that nothing I said is being taken the wrong way because I only meant to be constructive.

These were all separate and random meetings, sometimes we outnumbered you guys 2v3 or you outnumbered us 3v2 but overall, it was some fun fights. Though I was not able to finish anyone one of you, I was happy to have downed 1 or two of you a few times.

We had some pretty awesome fights last night. It was very intense on more than one occasion. You guys did well.

[Yarr] and [OHai] have a bit of a history together as friends and rivals, so surely you can understand why we would both prefer to fight battles without help from others. I don’t think anyone really cares that you joined in anyway, which is why Gyuforce’s post was directed at us and not you. In any event, I can assure you that all emotes sent in the fight were directed at [Yarr] in jest, unless you were doing something annoying, in which case, you probably deserved it. Either way, who cares? Find us in-game and emote us all you want. Kill us. I’d love to give you a nice drop. It’s just a game. xD

First, I just want to say that this patch seems like it is going to be great for the elementalist. I can already think of 4-5 new builds I want to try, and I greatly appreciate the dev responses to the issues in this thread. It is so nice to feel like we are being heard as a community, and I know we are not always the most welcoming bunch.

However, I have some serious concerns about the changes to Elemental Attunement and Renewing Stamina. Playing D/D and being in the fray is pretty rough sometimes, and losing either vigor or protection from these two traits is really detrimental. I have been roaming in WvW and practicing in PvP since the preview notes were released, trying to drop one trait or the other just to see how it will run before I jump to conclusions, and it really does make an enormous difference. In the case of Renewing Stamina, removing it in favor of Elemental Attunement heavily impacts the entire playstyle and flow of the D/D set, while significantly dropping one’s ability to survive. At the same time, dropping Elemental Attunement to take Renewing Stamina lessens the ability for an ele to counterplay. If I need to catch a running target, I can swap to air. If I anticipate a burst, I can swap to earth. The list goes on. Running 20-30 in Arcana without both of those traits for certain specs is just too big of a hit to take.

That being said, Elemental Attunement is just a beast of a trait and could honestly be compared with most grandmaster traits. I think a good compromise would be to place Renewing Stamina back in the adept tier, placing is where the other professions get this type of trait, and instead move Final Shielding to the master tier where it could live alongside Arcane Retribution as two good choices in arcane builds that take Arcane Mastery in the adept tier.

Personally, this sounds like the perfect solution to me. I understand the concern that you do not want to allow an ele to just throw 10 in Arcana for a really powerful trait like Elemental Attunement and call it a day. However, Renewing Stamina seems to be an appropriate fit for the Adept tier overall. Moving Elemental Attunement up to the Master tier while keeping Renewing Stamina at Adept will allow eles who really want to invest in that line to achieve some very nice effects at the cost of raw stat points and strong traits in the other lines. I really hope you take this potential compromise that you have proposed as it would be greatly appreciated and, I think, be better for overall balance and build diversity.

With that said, I want to apologize for the seemingly endless wall of text, and again say thank you for the contributions you have made to this thread thus far.

Something I found useful when you’re engaging a guardian with aegis up, you can put basi venom on and throw dancing dagger, then teleport in with infiltrators signet and auto attack to break aegis before the projectile hits. The basi venom will be on the dancing dagger so it saves you having to break aegis, do the venom animation and then attack.

Why does it seem everyone is picking on [Ohai]? They are a fun guild to fight and not everyone can control “Everyone” in their said guild. Its just something that people are going to have to get over. Yes people laugh at the people they kill its not right but it happens. This match up is pretty fun though i would have to say.

Not picking on them, calling them out on disrespectful behavior. A person’s actions reflect on their guild as a whole, no denying that. A lot of time these guilds are very good at what they do, but they have members that have trashy attitudes, but they aren’t being reigned in. No discipline. To me, when you rep a guild, you are representing what it stands for. negative actions make a guild as a whole look bad, and members should already know this.

Well, first, I just want to point out that it is obviously not the same group as the picture I posted included me, a thief, and two warriors. Second, you can see a dead player and enemy players in the background of the screenshot. If you can more you can duo sm lord. I’ve duoed bay and hills multiple times, both undefended and equally defended (two enemies showed up to defend).

If you know what you are doing, and the other enemies don’t k ow what you are doing, then its a cake walk.

It’s actually pretty funny that you post this. From reading your first post, I wasn’t exactly sure as to why you would be so rude for no reason, and now it makes sense. The fact that you had to make sure to include that you have duo’d keeps is very telling. I posted something positive, complimenting both FC and DH for their performance and shared a little bit of [OHai]‘s success and your immediate response is, "I am not impressed. I’ve done that in keeps. Blah, blah, blah." Well, frankly, we do not engage in chest thumping, “we’re the best players ever” antics like that. We play for fun, and it is unfortunate that you are trying to make a positive post into some negative forum warrior competition. It’s sad seeing as how other DH players have been nothing but respectful.

On a lighter note, I anticipate more good fight tonight from all. >:)

Believe me, you are not the only one who enjoys quaggan tonics.

The problem with ele condition removal is that you have to trait 30 in Water and Arcana to get enough of it to make up for eles low HP pool. The fact that ANet expects there to be build variety after nerfing condition removal/stunbreaks (Cleansing Fire) and buffing condition classes is baffling to me. I had to go from a build that I really enjoyed (that used Cleansing Fire as it’s primary condition removal) to the old x/x/x/30/30 simply because I cannot live without at least 2 stunbreaks (+ Lightning Flash) and frequent condition removal. The simple fact of the matter is, if you want to live in WvW with all these new super necros crawling around, you either need a babysitter/zerg or you have to go x/x/x/30/30. There are no other options.

The prolem is that condition application has become far too rampant. Eles don’t need condi removal as much as the ability of other classes to apply so many conditions needs to be dialed back.

I agree. I don’t think it’s feasible to buff our condition removal (aside from returning Cleansing Fire to it’s previous state) as it would be too much if you specced for it. Toning down condition application seems to be the only way to maintain any kind of balance anymore.

Despite these problems, I expect ele sustain to receive even more nerfs in the next balance patch. I guess we are supposed to be migrating to high burst/no survivability specs. Honestly, I am not angry with ANet as much as I am just disappointed that the class I love to play is slowly but surely becoming less and less viable.

As someone who mains a D/D ele and plays thief on the side, I just want to say thank you to everyone in this thread for giving constructive feedback instead of crying “ELE OP! MOAR NERFS!” We really need more discussion like this in all class forums. You guys are awesome.

I don’t really have much to offer the OP as the advice given in this thread is great. The D/D set has a lot of different ways to counter backstab so it’s a tough fight for sure. Like others have said, the element of surprise will really help you. Catching the ele off guard will result in at least one of three scenarios: the ele takes the backstab, blows a cantrip/heal right off the bat, or tries to escape. Either way, it gives you more leverage in the fight.
