Water Grandmaster Trait: Removes only one condition every five seconds now.

This is actually a perfectly reasonable change, although inadequate and uncompensated for. Unless your playstyle involves spamming Cantrips for condition removal, it shouldn’t be much of an issue.

Although I do wish they’d modify the GoEH so that it removed a condition by default.

I agree. The only nerf I’m super annoyed about it RtL. We still have a lot of ways to mitigate conditions even with that trait nerf.

Well, I’m definitely hoping that they keep this nerf in sPvP and split the skills for PvE/WvW. The other ele skills are all but completely useless when it comes to staying alive within melee range, especially when you’re fighting zerg v. zerg.

I’m late! Sorry, real life has become rather tedious lately with midterms, illness, and the like. Anyway, this week’s meet will be on Ehmry Bay. I think we’ve cycled through all the starting areas so it’s back to Rata Sum at the Accountancy Waypoint on Thursday and Friday (6pm PST/8pm CST/9pm EST).

On numerous occasions in WvW I’ve had skill #3 immobilize the enemy only for them to dodge away (while immobilized, with chain animations and all) when I follow up with skill #2. I’ve just started noticing it after this last patch. It’s really annoying to blow two skills in one go. Especially when I don’t even used Blurred Frenzy until after I’ve switched places with skill #3 clone. It’s happened multiple times. Anyone else experiencing this?

If the downed #2 skill would reliably teleport us away from the enemy it would be so much better. I never end up using it unless I’m by myself because it always seems to put me in a more dangerous place than I was before. Too many times have I been moved right into the enemy zerg or directly in the line of fire. Although, I do have to say, Kardiamond is right. We are much better off than the engineer.

Okay, so we’ll be meeting in Darkhaven on Thursday and Friday at (6pm PST/8pm CST/9pm EST) in Hoelbrak at Snow Leopard Waypoint.

It really depends on what’s going on at the time, but there are a few things that will help out a lot.

Perhaps one of the most important things you can do is siege up towers, keeps, and (to a lesser extent) camps. While you’re running supplies to build, you can also make sure upgrades are queued regularly.

Cutting off supply lines by killing yaks can also put a lot of pressure on the enemy. The other night in Eternal Battlegrounds, I was part of a group of thieves that were killing all yaks going to SM. Four SM walls were down and the enemy was desperate for supplies. They eventually had to have an entire zerg (literally 15+ people) escort their yaks back and forth for a while.

In Eternal Battlegrounds, you can take Speldan’s solo with very little effort by luring the Aboreal Spirit to the camp and letting it do all the work. At the very least you will cause the enemy some trouble even if you don’t manage to take the camp.

Scouting an area helps a lot. It will be even more important after this next patch when it requires 25+ players to make orange swords.

You can take the NPC camps (ogres, quaggans, etc) by yourself too if you’re lucky enough to finish it before the enemy gets there.

Sometimes enemy cannons can be easily destroyed if there is no one around. It will waste some of their supply and give your allies safe passage through certain areas for a period of time. I wouldn’t go out looking for cannons to destroy, but sometimes they can be really annoying in high traffic areas (the road between QL and Durios is usually a good spot in EB to take out cannons if you’re blue). It can also be a good way to prepare SM for a takeover too.

Friday has been removed from the poll and will now be a day we regularly meet. There hasn’t been a week that we haven’t met on Friday so everything should pretty much be the same.

With this Tuesday’s patch, we will see the implementation of guild missions (watch the trailer here). That’s definitely something we need to discuss. Depending on what is required the participate in the missions (Guild Merit, Influence, etc.), we may need to pick a permanent host server if we want to play because influence is server-bound and merit is likely to follow suit. Personally, I think the missions look like they are going to be a lot of fun and it would give us big PvE things to do without outside interference or worrying about timers. However, because we don’t want to box ourselves in, it is important to keep the accuracy of a server’s timers in mind when and if we choose a permanent home server.

With that said, be sure to get yourself in the guild. Just show up to the next meeting and mention it and someone will get you in. If you can’t make it to the meet, just contact me or Quex and we’ll send you and invite.

I’m glad to see that we are finally moving beyond just Friday and Saturday. Sorry, OP, but I think this is an L2P issue. Mesmer has a ton of boons? Corrupt Boon. Mesmer chasing you? Grasping Dead. Too many clones? Just about any AoE will work. My personal favorite is death shroud skill #4. In all reality, the best thing for you is the exact thing you do not want to do: play a mesmer. Until you play one, you won’t know the skill or effort it takes to be one. You will struggle to counter them until you realize that it isn’t a balance problem. Accept responsibility and move on. You win some, you lose some. No big deal. You will do better next time.

Well played. Poor BP. That just sucks. Should’ve done a sweep though, I guess. Anyway, this has made for a very exciting match up. So far it doesn’t look like anyone’s moving up or down a tier this week. I’m curious as to what the next tier change will be though, whenever it happens.

Just gotta outplay em, man, you know what I’m saying?
1. Dodge the first ride of lightning. They can’t get their combo off. If you do get knocked down, stun-break away before you get hit by Burning Speed/Fire Grab/Ring of Fire/Arcane BS.
2. Ele is going to switch to earth attunement. Watch out for magnetic grasp. Staying some distance away from it will help. Continue to short-bow, beat the crap out of it.
3. Next up is water attunement. Wait at a distance till the frost aura goes away. Proceed to spank. Post frost-aura while they are still water attuned would be the best time to land your burst.
4. At this point, either they are going to switch back to air attunement for shocking aura or go to fire for another attempt at a burst. If it’s the former, stay away till the shocking goes away and finish the ele off. If it’s the latter, run into them expecting another burning speed that’s going to completely miss you (or dodge while running into him if he dodge rolls away and is positioning himself to land it). Finish him off here before updraft gets off CD.

Other tips:
1. Churning Earth: A lot will run lightning flash with it, so dodge after counting to 3. If you have a pistol off-hand, beat the kitten out of them while they cast this and interrupt it at 3. Watch out for stability.
2. Never open with your burst. They will be expecting it. Sometimes, I like to fake my burst to get their mist form out of the way. This will help enormously.
3. Immobilize screws them up sooo much. Hide in Shadows + Bow 1 to immobilize and proceed to cluster bomb from a safe distance. Check their attunement to see what gap closers they are going to be using and be ready to deal with it (Fire – Burning Speed, Water – Frozen Burst to slow you down or nullify your HS, Air – RTL, Earth – Magnetic Grasp).
4. Caltrops will help enormously. Criple screw them up, and they will need to condi-cleanse from water. Make them switch to water attunement and burst them down once they do.

As a D/D ele, listen to this advice. Seriously. It is exactly what you’re looking for.

The mesmer is a very reaction-based profession. Because of this, it is difficult to give you specific weaknesses. It really depends on what your build is and how you use it and what the opposing mesmer’s build is and how s/he reacts to you. The best thing you can do is create a mesmer character and familiarize yourself with the profession. Learn the skills, traits, and tactics and it will make it easier to counter them. My two level 80s are a necro and a mesmer. If you’re a good necro and you can figure out the mesmer profession, the fight should be pretty even.

I know how you feel, but I don’t think the system needs to change. Just stay with the pack until you are a higher level. People who are level 80 aren’t impossible to kill, but they have earned their advantage over you.

Portal bombing isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. You can see the first portal on the ground waiting to be activated before the second one is placed, giving you and indication of what is about to happen. There are clever ways to use portals, yes, but it is hardly an exploit or OP skill. Whenever you capture a tower/keep, look around for mesmers hidden inside. It takes 5 minutes and saves you a lot of grief. Mesmers who wall climb then port people in are cheating and that is a problem in the game that needs fixed, but it isn’t a problem with the portal skill, it is a problem with wall climbing.

This isn’t really something to gripe about either. It is one of the only things mesmers have to fight against people in towers/keeps in WvW. The profession has almost no AoE. Chaos Storm is great. Feedback is great. You move over a few feet and that’s about it. If you’re sitting on a tower firing, the mesmer is all but screwed if they want to help capture the area.

As someone on here already mentioned, this isn’t a mesmer-specific problem.

Really, before claiming that a profession is OP or using exploits, it would be more productive to evaluate your own game play and try to get better. If you’re struggling against mesmers, you should try to develop new tactics to fight against them instead of asking for a nerf. I have problems fighting against thieves, but that doesn’t mean there is something wrong with that profession. It means I still have things I personally need to work on.
