Had something weird happen in Anzalias Pass just now. A sylvari male warrior from Ehmry Bay guild “People from Nowhere” somehow glitched inside past the gate. I was having connection issues and was inside waiting to d/c if it happened when they attacked, and ended up going LD with him standing there attacking so got some screenshots if needed.
No mesmer was around, so no portal and I have no idea how a warrior managed to glitch inside, but thats really not good to exploit like that.
1. Save up your sweaters/socks/hats and buy the stuff you can’t live without. (You have chances to get them in the presents for the events afaik)
2. After you have everything you want, spend your extras on the randomizer.
It’s how I’ve always dealt with this mechanic in mmo’s.
While this is true, and the way it will be done most times….the random presents still should reward other useless crap aside from the items used to buy the presents themselves. I dont remember playing an MMO that has done it this way, but I might just have blocked it out. I am totally used to getting crap out of a lottery box, and kinda expect it, but this just struck me as worse than normal.
Its just a “psychological” thing I guess, but getting back one of an item you spent 10 to buy “feels” wrong if nothing else, and in an MMO, how something feels is very important.
Ok, opening up a PURCHASED gift you bought with the sweaters/socks/hats should NEVER give you one of the sweaters/socks/hats…..ever. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs some educating.
It should have a small chance to give you one of the items for sale, and then a big chance for either a small amount of the tradeskill items or some other frivolous item, but never the exact thing you used to purchase it with, and only one at that. Put near worthless items in if you want, but SOMETHING other than the purchase items for gods sake!
This is MMO basics 101. A lottery that costs 10 tickets and rewards you with 1 ticket back is something that makes no one happy, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that one out either.
Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
While I appreciate the comment letting everyone know that its intended….can you take a minute to look at the impact and the way it “feels” from a person actually playing a Mesmer?
Balance is never easy. Its never pretty, and its usually quite frustrating to achieve if ever. I understand this fact about MMO’s (been playing since EQ1 pre-kunark days).
In this instance having the delay on the attack is the wrong way to go period. If its so powerful an enemy needs a moment to react, nerf the damage. That would of course cause an outcry and make people mad, but having it this way totally wastes the ability, and makes a core mechanic of one entire class worthless.
You only need to go play a Mesmer for 30 minutes, testing it out yourself in PVE or WVW to see it. Seriously, its not something that would require you to do more in depth testing than that.
Other classes in the game have things that do more damage with vastly less restrictions. This is not a fact that can even be debated about. Its just a known fact, and you know the community knows it. Anyone playing 5 minutes of WVW can see bursts far exceeding anything a phantasm can EVER dish out, with just normal standard casting rules in place.
I know the amount of work you must put into balancing things and I respect that, but please take a bit more time to really look into this. If Mesmer stays like this you will find no one playing more than a basic shatter build because phantasms will be useless for anything else….which makes the entire class flavor useless.
Make the damage less if you feel its out of line with every other classes attacks, but make it actually ATTACK when we cast it and manage to not be blinded, dodged or otherwise prevented from even casting the darn thing.
With whats happen to YB`s keep this saturday morn(est) I`m starting to think that TC and FA has teamed up.
Yeah cant see it being any other way. Appearances all point to it, just need the confirmation I guess.
Did the capture of their keep help clear any misconception?
Hey if you say its not so I will take you at your word, it just “feels” like its 2 vs 1 today and lots of people on Yak’s were talking about it, but if it truly isnt I dont know how to fix that misconception.
30 golems is just crazy lol…love the pics

You do realize people want a middle ground between the 2 extremes right? Your only using each extreme end of the spectrum to complain about the complaining.
Some good suggestions so far has been the #1 of a lower tier swap with the #3 of a higher tier to try to avoid the same match ups for 3 weeks in a row, or at the very least do color swaps so there is SOME variety, and to help with 100% world completion for people who dont want to swap servers.
There are many ways to try to help the situation out without going back to 300k to 50k to 10K scores.
Explain to me the fundamental reason why it even matters which server you’re up against?
The goal is for your server to either Win or Lose and have fun while doing it. The matching system is supposed to create an opportunity to give each server as reasonable a chance as possible for both of those things.
If you want middle ground between the two extremes. I think we already have it. Scores aren’t blow outs anymore. You’re getting the most reasonable chance at playing against enemies that will give you a good fight without one team ROFL-stomping the others (to an extent).
I’m missing something.
Your basically saying any match up is fine. If you apply that to real world, every sunday would you enjoy seeing the same 2 teams compete…..every week? Its human nature to want some variety is all.
Before:
Oh my god! Match ups are so broken! Look at the scores.! Every match is a blow-out! When is Arena going to fix this screwed up matching system so we don’t have scores that are blow-outs 300k v 50k v 10k. WvW stinks until they can get it right.
Now:
Oh my god! Match ups are so broken! We’re facing the same servers over and over again! And even if you move up or down a tier one week, they are just bumped back to where they were when they stomp or get stomped in the other Tier! I want some variety already, this is getting stale.
So which is it? Do you want scores and swings wildly week over week where you either blow out your opponents or get blown out? Or do you want stability where you actually have a reasonable battle with an “even” chance to win or lose?

The problem with that is you are playing against the same people for long periods of time. Which more likely then not means the same tactics at the same times of day by the same numbers. If I can log into WvW and basically write a script for how my night will proceed, this is a problem, and yes it is boring. We all like the changing up.
Actually, using the same tactics will not be the most likely scenario, specially because you are fighting them over long periods of time. The servers will come up with counter tactics that will gain them the edge. As time goes on, these counter-tactics will be countered, and so on, making the matches more skillful till the servers involve go up/down in rank, where they will meet opponents that are worthy of their advanced strategy.
While this is very very true, one variable that counters it to a degree for this grouping of 3 is that TC has vastly more people. Not saying they arent skilled by any means, but bigger numbers means you can get away with sloppier play and still come out ahead. There are really not that many options you have when outnumbered….and I think most are actively being used.
Same matchup is not fun when your very outnumbered, but at the very least a swap of colors would have been nice.
I just hope next week its something different. This is going to make a lot of people on Yak’s not want to do wvw if it keeps being like this. Some people see a huge zerg against 10 to 20 people and wonder “whats the point” and that leads to even more issues with TC having 60+ people against 10 from Yak’s.
Nothing against TC of course, just superior numbers, and not much you can do about it really.
Well one thing that isnt fun, at least for most people, is to log in…..find Yak’s Bend Hill is the only you own on the entire field, and see 20+ TC people right outside the gates basically spawn camping it.
Not really fun at all.
First LFG function, next 40-man raids.
You do realize those things have absolutely nothing in common right? I mean seriously.
Also, since your referencing “the game that must not be named”, you should at least get the order right, as well as the name. 40 mans were gone before LFD was added, and besides a LFG system doesn’t have to be the same as LFD was.
yeah i like having fun but being zerged by 40 and hunted down till the last keep is gone oh well congrats tc eventually our server will be completely outmanned as everyone quits and hopes for a new match up.i like wvsw but like this its unplayable.sry and i know ill get a bunch of oh stop whining comments well whatever.
Well I have to somewhat agree, its not fun when one server is so overwhelmingly present in wvsw against barely anyone else. It really does make people who are only half interested in it go “well screw this!” when you get just hammered over and over and over. Having a zerg of over 40 or so it seemed against 6 people is a bit dis-heartening at any time though.
Not really anything you can do about it though, even if in the “spirit” of it its very unsportsmanlike in the end, a win is a win is a win….even if it was the same as a 200 pd 6 foot tall man beating up on a 3 yr old.
I am all for a sense of community, but honestly…..you cant compare this game to other games that have multiple servers who all of a sudden has cross server grouping. This game has a game wide community, you can already group with anyone regardless of server. The ideas of community being hurt by a LFD tool/instance matching just dont hold up with that fact in play.
Creating an instance that tracks how many times you have done it, without having a way to match people on the same “level” as you, was not very smart long term. Wait a month, see how hard the new players to the instance have in finding a level 1 group.
Unless someone has a perma-group they play with each and every time they instance run, the simple fact is you will fall ahead or behind your guildies and friends. Its just common sense someone will go on vacation, have a deadline at work etc that keeps them from playing a few days to a week and lag behind. This isnt like raid gearing, where you can take someone in and carry them and get geared up ASAP….you have to totally repeat old difficulty levels to boost every person who falls back.
Having some form of instance finding tool is needed badly. Anytime your community has to rally to do something “third-party” like gw2lfg.com , that should set off HUGE BIG WARNING ALARM BELLS. Its a clear sign you have a problem your not addressing and someone needs to get their rear end moving on fixing it pronto.
Honestly, if “world changes” meant a statue is destroyed that’s pretty lame. It coming back is fine to me.
World changes should be epic in scale, not an architectural change in one statue.
That’s like saying… oh “Elder Dragon Zhaitan” didn’t really die and he’s back, 1 or 2 years later.
Yep. Because a piece of architecture in town equates to a dragon, that’s a fair comparison lol.

Pretty sure it was posted by the dev who designed the statue it’s coming back. He posted in a thread in the Halloween section.
IT is allot of fun for those of us who like the puzzle and adventure style achievements. For those that don’t go away. No reason to take part in something you hate.
In normal gameplay I would 100% agree with you.
For a limited time holiday event? No. I have always felt holiday events should be fun and something the entire community can do together and not make any of the player base rage or hate the event.
Holidays stick in the community’s “collective mind” for a long time, and do you really want the thing everyone remembers about GW2 first holiday to be bad odds in chests and a jumping puzzle half the people cant finish?
This puzzle should have really be put in place in the regular game, as a normal puzzle event, not a part of a holiday.
If this were a regular puzzle, I would have no problems. However, the fact its a “fun” holiday puzzle I find it a bit rage worthy.
Holiday events are supposed to be a bit challenging, with a bit of fun thrown in. If there wasn’t the whole acid thing….I would say it was good for that. Having it be timed at the same time its requiring precise jumping is a bit much for something for a holiday in my opinion.
Honestly, I have found a lot of this holiday to be odd. I do think it could have been done a lot better to be more “easy and fun” and leave the challenging stuff for regular gameplay.
Holiday events should be 100% completeable by anyone playing your game, regardless of skill level. Its not normal gameplay, its not about the achievements, its about limited time special events that not everyone wants to spend hours and hours doing.
I didn’t buy any keys, after buying a few character slots and stuff I didn’t want to spend any more real money till the Christmas event, but I planned ahead and managed to save about 15 or so keys from my army of alts just for the Halloween event.
I got somewhat lucky and got quite a few new keys from open chests, but after opening around 28 chests…..that was the extent of my luck. Tonics, boosters and assorted other things I didn’t really need.
No one, myself included, expected a skin or halloween item from EVERY box. I did however, expect a more than 50% drop rate on SOMETHING holiday themed. Whats the point of having your lottery chests if not to give some sort of “feel good” reward on the holidays when you KNOW people will be opening them. Its a way to make sure you sell MORE of them not less.
People want some sort of satisfaction from a special event. You are shooting yourself in the foot by doing it this way. Make something rare for every event, and then make 2 or 3 COMMON things too. Make sure your customers get 2 to 4 of the dead common things with 5 to 10 chests, and you have much happier customers who will keep trying for the rare stuff. Its not rocket science, just pure basic common sense.
That’s assuming they want to fix the problem, they want to ban in waves, after a few months so the botters can make a profit mind you, so that everyone profits. Well except the regular players, but we already payed so who cares.
I was trying to have faith. I tend to cling to the belief gaming companies TRY to do good….even when I probably shouldn’t sometimes.
Shoot at this point, put some application up…..hire some of the community to patrol zones for NO PAY spotting and logging bots and having power to summon a real GM to the spot to ban. Pick about 20/30 people per server based on play time/willingness to do it and your set. No special powers needed for them to have to use but a direct line to a real GM and you fixed the problem.
Trust me, you would be flooded with people wanting to help you fix your game for free, save the company money AND save the company reputation at the same time.
We know the spots to check, we know the bots already, regular reporting by everyone doesnt seem to help so…let us help fix it.
On Yak’s Bend I have seen so many in Kessex Hills yesterday and this morning its sickening. You want to know a good way to figure out a botter? If the toon is a ranger, human, have starter brown bear and no other pet, if they have a name that makes no sense, and they teleport around.
I dont see how hard it is to just auto ban accounts that meet those criteria. If its a legitimate player, there are ways to unlock the account.

Something drastic needs done, and heck I would rather have a few legit accounts banned for suspected botting/farming for a day or two if it got rid of 10,000 bots in one big swoop, and I cant think I am the only one who would understand and deal with it for the good of the game.

If any of you play mesmer, it is sometimes possible to “derail” mobile bots using your portal. Since they spam the f key to loot, they will activate your portal and be moved outside their programmed path. I know it’s not a real solution, but anything that slows them down hurts their profit in an area. If the bot isnt spamming f all the time, it will still use it ocasionally, such as after combat to loot or revive its bot friends.
The current game is very friendly towards bots. During events, people unknowingly protect them from swarms that would kill them and put them out of commision for a while. I have watched them be killed, and other players come along and rez them in an attempt to be helpful.
