I’m guessing it’s self centred.

edit: just done some tests with Raidation field and Hallowed Ground.

The combo selection is done the moment your motion intersects a field – for instance the moment you leap into a fire field and cross the boundary you will see the “Fire Armor” indicator, and you will see the glowing fire shield effect. ( This happens straight away if you are already inside one )
However you will not gain the actual buff until you land ( contradicting visual appearances ).
The radius of any AoE, such as a 3 stacks of Might from a Fire Field Blast occurs at the point you land, not at the point the combo was initiated or in the centre of the field. ( I tested this by placing a fire field next to another friendly and then both Mighty Leaping away and towards their position to see whether they received the buffs or not – I was also able to give someone 3 stacks of Might from a field initiated over 1200 away with a mighty blow chained with JI teleport to their location )

To summarize:

  1. Combo selection is determined from the first field your finisher encounters
  2. Where there are multiple fields the oldest has priority
  3. Combo effects are actived from the point the skill ends or you first strike a target.

This makes most sense to me, and should encompass all types of finisher without requiring special cases (ie for Mighty Blow)

consider sigil of stamina on your staff, you can tag enemies and pretty much perma-dodge right through the middle of any zerg.

I often go with full cleric 0,0,20,30,20/0,0,10,30,30 and gain a lot of sustain via dodge healing and staff skills – you might benefit from 30 in Virtues so you can get extra condition cleansing from Absolute Resolution ( if Melandru isn’t enough ) or stability from Indomitable Courage.

Commando would fit well with his gear, but not with his utilities – you’ll want to pull the points out of Zeal and put them into Virtues for Consecrated Ground, and maybe take another 10 out of Honor for Virtues Master of Consecrations aswell. It’s not going to synergize particularly well with Altruistic Healing without shouts…

It could be because the Ranger used a skill that made you lose target selection ( such as Hunter’s Strike/Hide In Plain Sight stealth ) and JI will automatically acquire the closest targetable enemy which would probably be their pet.

hmm we’ve seen bugs before where certain effects won’t work on entering a zone and require you to un-equip and re-equip every item for the effect to work again… perhaps something like that occurs? Or like Rune of Vampirism where a damage piece of armor will prevent the leech from working until re-equipped

Actually I think even we are overcomplicating it a bit. Just testing in the mists it seems that the same rule of priority is applied to all finishers:
1) The first initiator field encountered by the finisher
2) or where you begin inside more than 1 initiator the oldest takes precidence.

You can Whirl into a field with Whirling Wrath, just like you can Leap into/through with Leap of Faith, or Blast with Mighty Blow and for other professions, shoot through with projectile finishers. Mighty Blow appears to trigger the moment you pass into a field, not necessarily when you land ( it’s just the jump is so short you may not be able to tell the difference )

if in PvP then use the steady weapons, otherwise the results can get muddied by RNG.

Also if you’re switching out the 6th rune, make sure whatever you replace it with has the same base stats or if you are a just measuring the difference with and without Might bear in mind that the +35 Power from 1 Stack of Might can get affected by damage multiplying traits and sigils

hmm just tried it in the Mists with 12 stacks of Might from a PvP Steady Staff – I showed exactly the same damage increase with or without the 6th rune equipped – so it still seems to be bugged, perhaps it’s different in PvE

1.) Is there a Place where i can check Coefficients? Are these spamable Attacks? Id really like to know.

2.) I also would really like to know the Math behind this. Having three Attacks in about 1 Second with such Coefficients looks like a lot of Damage.

Example damage calculation for Whirling Wrath

Yup, 2 of those have a delay before their effect is realised ( Shield of Wrath – 2.5, Zealot’s Fire – 2.25 ): So you precast the shield, wait a second, cast Ray of Judgement – 0.5 and Zealot’s Fire at range, teleport (JI) in close and use Protector’s Strike – 1.4. Timed correctly you can do 18k of damage in less than a second ( and higher in a full glass cannon build in WvW ).

Anet has now asked that all profession bugs should be submitted individually to the official bugs forum

So please post there in the future. Naturally if you suspect a bug but are unable to test it reliably you are welcome to post here and I’ll see if I can help reproduce it.

I might try and rebrand this as a “Known Guardian Issues” thread and link it off the FAQ if I can’t get it restickied, since I think it’s primarily useful to the guardians themselves so they are aware of the quirks of their chosen profession.

Regardless, my thanks to everyone that submitted reports and helped compile this list.

I think the bleed has it’s uses – mainly because it’s largely free to apply and stack and it helps waste opponent’s condition removal. On my build I ran with sceptre, shield and hammer with bleeds on the 1-handers and generosity on the hammer. I frequently saw 5 conditions on opponents with that setup and occasionally 6.

4 “passive” condi removals every 10 secs was enough in many encounters ( Perfect Inscriptions, Purity and Generosity ), but still pretty useless against condi spammers.

On the strength of your vid, I tried a comedy build with a mess of Rabid and Carrion gear, Perplexity, Geomancy and Generosity and spec’d for blinds, interrupts and immobilises ( Signet of Wrath, Pain Inverter and Technobabble )
I did find it quite entertaining ( expecially downing Necros using conditions! ) – you get a definite sense of people going “wtf?!”.

On the other-hand I found it quite an awkward play style, so I’m not sure I could stomach it for any length of time ( and I’m sure people will wise up soon, or it’ll get nerfed ).

Simple Fix -

Signet of Mercy:
Passive – Heals you for 180.
Active – Rez’s 3 Players in a Target-able Area.

Yeah, I was just thinking when retesting the signet this morning that this is what it really needs, passive healing ( would probably make a full signet build semi-viable too ).

Q30 Does the Protection boon and Signet of Judgement reduce the amount of Condition Damage I receive and do they stack?
No, both Protection and Signet of Judgement only reduced Direct Damage, and do not affect damage received via Conditions. They do however stack with each other.

Do they stack additively or multiplicatively?

i.e.: (Not traited) Both equiped will reduce the damage by 43% without traited (additively) or 39,7% (multiplicatively)?

Good suggestion, I’ve included the answer in Q30 – They stack additively, so 43% untraited.

Also going to put my +1 to this. I’m able to take my DPS build less and less, and I find it very sad because they are otherwise extremely fun and gratifying to play.

I run shout builds to support my guild and party, but I don’t do it for the game-play.

Fix the runes, tone down the condition re-application and have Smite Condition reduce it’s cool-down (alot) on a successful cleanse like a dev hinted in one of the SOTG

Conditions usually seem to be the death of me in some way/shape/form.

An alternative you could experiment with is using the Signet heal and trait for Perfect Inscriptions and Purity – that’ll give you 3 passive condition removals every 10 seconds, and should free up you to spec your utilities how you want. If you still have problems then condition duration reducing food should help too.

While I can’t give the sage advice of Brutaly when it comes to hammer play, you should probably get the feel of dancing in and out of Purging Flames – which isn’t as sissy-looking as it sounds because you’ll be wanting to Mighty Blow on CD while the circle is up to stack might for you and your team members.

toughness: 2739 = -53.52% damage
total reduction: 96.52% damage

Fixing your math:

(1-0.5352)(1-0.33)(1-0.12) = 0.274

You’ll end up taking 27.4% of the original damage you would “normally” take, which is pretty impressive, but clearly not 100% damage reduction.

If you went with knight’s everything, slapped on a shield and traited for maximum toughness, you could get pretty close to 80% damage reduction.

A quick calculation and I think 81.75% damage reduction is possible, if ( big if ):

Max Damage Reduction

Direct Damage Reduction = (2566 Base Toughness Armour Accessories Food etc + 50% from active Tome of Courage buff + 170 Warrior Banner of Defense + 400 Rune of Mercy #2 effect + 150 Strength In Number + 90 Honourable Shield) * (33% Protection) * (12% Signet of Judgement) = 81.75%

or 69.04% before Protection and Signet of Judgement.

That’s about 59205 effective health.

Interestingly if you use Soldier’s gear and trinkets then you get 87526 effective.

Where was that on the wiki?

From what I remember from the wiki Damage description: positive modifiers ( like crit and traited percentage damage increases ) are calculated after base damage, in other words applied after your armor reduction

I don’t think this is remotely useful in real application, but just in the interests of maxing your toughness, a couple of points:

Switch focus for shield and add Honourable Shield instead of Retributive Armor ( toughness = 2801 ) – The Shield is also another source of Protection.

Switch Dolyak runes for Runes of Mercy and you’ll have 3201 toughness while you are res’ing allies.

Activating Tome of Courage doesn’t just give you Protection, but also boosts your base toughness by 50% – I think that would mean a toughness of 4081 while it’s active… but I may be calculating that wrong

I don’t think we’ll see blanket buffs because it would make certain builds much too strong

I don’t know what you’re talking about.

and I had even resisted the temptation to add “I’m looking at you Christos” – now I wish I had ;-)

@OP I think the max HP a guardian can achieve is just over 2300, that’s 2.5k of healing for allies just for rolling in the dirt every second or two in a zerg.
