Untrue, the pet immediately goes back to rezzing after it is interupted. The correct answer to the question is that if the difference in their downed times is larger than 2 seconds, the victory will tend to go to the first downed ranger as he gets pet heal sooner. Also if you can keep the opponent’s pet low without killing it when he starts his rez you can kill the pet and gain a victory (unless underwater).
Along with this I suggest that the server owners also disable glory gain (Which I think disables “Play Now” Joiners).
Is that why there’s a couple rooms that disable progression? I haven’t been able to think of a reason why someone would not want Glory points for play ever since I saw that setting.
Well I don’t know if it is a direct “disable glory” I think it has something to do with the server straying too far from normal settings so it disables glory gain. Not sure what it would take to actually do it.
Now I am not meaning anything like an enforced naming scheme, I was just thinking since there is not a filter type for names that include “Duel” we should set up a way that it will be easily recognized. I propose That the games be labelled [Duel] Before the name of the server so that you can sort by game name and they will all be listed beside each other. Along with this I suggest that the server owners also disable glory gain (Which I think disables “Play Now” Joiners). In this way there should only be duelers joining and no one can claim ignorance because it is literally the first word of the server name. Anyway just a thought for the server owners

I think a better question would have been to ask something like “His pet only had 10% health when he swapped it out, after 20 seconds he brought it back out and it had full life… why!?” and the answer to that is because the pet has been out of combat for 20 seconds and has regenerated to full HP

They are supposed to be. For anyone that actually PvP’s this is done in just a few games. If you do not play a few games you are not forced for any reason (if you are a PvP player) to complete it as many people have said that there really is no reward for PvP. I think the problem was people were simply doing the PvP daily instead of the PvE daily because the time to complete was so vastly different.
So let me get this straight… in order to nerf cantrip eles, you are making it so we can no longer use utilities in mist form. I’m sincerely dumbfounded. How in god’s name does this make any sense whatsoever? Why on earth would a cantrip ele want to use another cantrip while in mist form, other than to cleanse conditions (which is being nerfed anyways). On the other hand, now you can no longer use arcane wave or glyph of storms or whatever while in mist form… so non-cantrip eles are harmed while cantrip eles are unaffected.
They mentioned that you “could” use more cantrips. However this seems to be more to do with ether renewal and using their heals in mist form to lower their survivability.
The major thing though is that you can no longer use the utility heal in mist form… seriously? This hurts non-bunker builds FAR more than bunker builds, since non-bunkers don’t have access to as much healing through other means and thus NEED to be able to get off a heal, considering our game-worst hp and armor. Another misguided nerf.
They did say this was the intention, even the invulnerability it gives for survivability is much better than most if not all other stun breaks.

Why, just why. What are you guys thinking, 40 seconds?! Being mobile and able to disengage easily is a VERY necessary component for our class, and one of the reasons why offhand dagger is our only viable option.
More importantly, our roaming is now crippled. I hate being a bunker guarding one point all day, so thankfully rtl allowed me to get to other points relatively quickly. Now however we will have some of the worst non-combat mobility in the game.
And let’s not even talk about PvE/WvW… I shudder at the thought.
They actually specifically said in SotG that the ele’s mobility is too high for what it can do. An incredibly mobile bunker does not allow for good “play”. They also mentioned that the cooldown for it had a chance to drop down to 20 when used offensively, but when used as mobility and node harass its availability has gone down. This falls in line with what they were intending and I do not see a problem with it.
When you complain about mobility at least make it reasonable, necros need to take a utility to get swiftness or use the nearly out of use warhorn. Rangers have access to swiftness out of combat only through warhorn (P.Rangers), but make use of a leap on sword to be slightly faster than base movement. To be honest the only class that still is faster than an elementalist is a thief, which does not give you room to complain. The only thing that has really changed is you may actually have to think about when you use RTL instead of use whenever it is up, and to me that means better play will prevail.

You know, I once had a GW1 Vet explain to me why guild rankings and GvG would save the game. He explained everything and I listened, but literally all it sounded like it was to me was Foefire with a flag in the middle of the map that you cap and run around with. I even went further to watch some videos of “amazing past games” from it and I had to say it was one of the least interesting things to watch, and because of this I had no real want to even try it. GW2’s target audience is larger than just the small PvP community it had in GW1, for an E-Sport to actually take off the important thing is the casual players (as funny as that sounds). There needs to be a market of players that wish to get better so they spend time watching events and other such activities or there will be no funding for the “top players” to compete. I think the dev’s did well to choose the gamestyle they did, however some space age meta needs to be less tanky and predictable to make it more exciting
Pets:
- Ability to move and attack at the same time
- Auto Attack damage significantly reduced
- Pet survivability increase
- Rangers are now given the option to rez their pets (in and out of combat) by a non bindable key near the f1-f4 abilities.

1. Fear is a great counter to engies, and before you say “oh condition removal”, think about it for a moment. The HGH engie has no instant cast condition removal meaning they cannot remove it except for their stun break. Fears for Engies are pretty much stuns, so they can force an early Elixir S.
2. By using fear and stun without overlapping, this will effectively throw them out of every team fight.
3. Other than what I have mentioned, you can also go boon stripping, HGH relies heavily on it so you can just wait for his elixir tosses then remove them all making his stacking useless and his elixirs wasted. for added help partner w/ an immob heavy partner to get easier boon removal.
Hello, me and one friend were 146 and 147 rank. He was 146, I was 147.
We played 2 games together and we won both games. After them, in the first leaderboard update, I am 102 and he is 111.
Can someone explain this?
Just because you are 146 and 147 does not mean that your hidden rating is exactly the same, nor does it mean your player volitility score is the same. Even if you were at the exact same rating on the same team (in the same game), if your volitility is vastly different the rating you gain will be different. This is how the system works, I hope the information has helped.
Not calling nerf here, but I would like to know what the weakness of this build is. I play a tanky necromancer with exotic/ascended soldier gear, wells, lifesteal, etc. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to deal with these guys in WvW.
-I can’t kill them because of Troll Unguent. No surprise as I don’t do a whole lot of damage and with natural vigor they can dodge most of my gap closers. Staff does laughable damage so staying at range is just as much a joke. The lowest I can get them is 50%, if that, then their health skyrockets back up.
-I can’t tank them because they stay at range, outside of wells and lifesteal range.
-I can’t run from them because they just swap to Warhorn to match my swiftness and/or concussion shot stuns/crossfire just bleeds me out.Is there any exploitable weakness here for me to attempt?

Troll Unguent is extremely weak to poison as it is over 10 seconds. Since most will run empath bond (first life the condi cleanses come on 0’s) you can broadcast it, also take note of kill time for rangers then add 5 seconds that is the new “time” for their condition cleanse.
For the rest of it we would need to know what type of ranger it is you are facing to help you. Also warhorn is a terrible condi weapon, the only thing I can think of is he is BM shrug
How exactly is gain/loss calculated? Is it average of each team compared? Or invidvidual rating vs average of opponent?
Lets use the following examples with made up hidden rating values.
Team A:
1 1500 rating
2 1700 rating
3 1800 rating
4 1800 rating
5 2500 ratingTeam B:
1 1000 rating
2 800 rating
3 2500 rating
4 2500 rating
5 2500 rating.Both teams are pugs, but team B has a 3-man elite mini group. Average rating of team A is 1860, average of Team B is also 1860. So does everyone on both teams lose or gain the same amount of rating? or say if Team B loses, will players 3, 4 and 5 drop more points than players 1 and 2 assuming individual rating compared to average?
The do not gain the same. The amount gained for each player is largely based off the player volitility score, if the volititility is high they can gain and lose more per game. Since the player rating and volitility are detached from the teams then they have to have separate gains entirely. This means that even if the entire team had to exact same score but different volitility scores, none of them would gain/lose the same amount.

As far as i remember it was stated that there is a part of the gliko-2 algorithm that take this decay into consideration.
Actually the only part of the Glicko-2 system I can see that has some form of decay is that the volitility increases when inactive meaning you can get to a higher/lower rank faster. I can’t actually find something in the original numerical system that actively removes rank. Seeing how this is a chess rating system I wouldnt be suprised if there was no decay unless ANET specifically added it in.
I do hotjoins from time to time, and I usually press the ‘’Play Now’’ button, but I always seem to be placed in some kind of ’’duel’’ match.
If you enter and start taking points, or starting to attack someone you get a kittenstorm coming at you.
I’m getting really, really, really tired of entering a match where I get ‘’Leave, we are having duels’’
Of course, when they ask me to leave., I leave. It was just in the start I didn’t check the amount of players it was in that match. Now, every time I enter a match I always check how many there are, and if I only see one on the red team, and one of the blue team, I write if they are having duels, and the answer seems to always be yes, and I always seem to be placed in such matches.
Just do something about it, I just can’t be kitten having a kittenstorm coming at me if I start capturing points or killing another player.
Here are some tips so you can tell the difference. If you join a match and it is low population, two points are neutral and one is either contested or cap’d, then check the timer if an 5 mins or more has passed the people there are duelling. Unless they happen to be the worst PvP’rs in the world, in which case you would also want to move along as well.
Rankings should definitely be reset periodically. I don’t understand arguments to the contrary at all. People are constantly leaving and joining the game.
If you go by some of the other systems, they actually do not reset between seasons, they pretty much keep the same, throw in some “ranking match” at the start which is little more than cover for not resetting at all. I do not think it is practical to reset the ratings completely and wait for all of it to stabilize again.
Your sigil choices are not that great, both Geomancy and Earth runes share a CD. (meaning that if you trigger earth runes you cannot trigger Geomancy until the CD is up, and if Geomancy procs on weapon swap, you cannot get an earth proc for 10 seconds) So basically you should rethink which one you would rather use. I would trade out either war horn for torch (increasing availability of burn and increasing your dps by more) or get rid of signet of the hunt for sharpening stone (it’s PvE, you can’t miss :/ ) as they overlap in function (you can always just throw one on for travelling)

PvP servers are Euro/American, just like WvW it does not cross over. This is also why you do not see tPvP matches of top NA vs top EU, it is just not possible without a second account.
I would like to add some info on the reasons for League of Legend’s Elo System being the most successful competitive system in my opinion.
The Glicko 2 system is a more advanced version of the ELO system. It is like a subset for one specific case in the entire system, so basically there is a really good rating system in place right now we only have to wait for player score volitility to go down and the deviation between ranks to increase. But as it stands now you have a ranking similar in effect to Elo, the only difference is it does not tell you your number, and it does not dress it up in leagues.

These are pretty much your leagues based, all you do is divide them into how many sections you want and the system will start sorting itself out in time. The problem currently is that we all started from the same ratings so there is no standard of “oh that player is a master, so that is where you belong”, give it time

I would pick the Barbie doll everytime, not because I can adjust to RP’n with her, but simply because I wont RP regardless of whatever character I make. What you think is a stupid reason to pick a race is the only thing that matters to an sPvP player, the benefit. Your reason for your character is not the same as everyone elses, and a large portion of the population would take a bonus to whatever aspect they play instead of a section they do not care about, which I am sure is something you can relate to.

This should not happen, Rangers with the trait get a dodge roll every 7.5 seconds which less than the cd on every trap available on ranger. It is far too powerful, the only way that it could be balanced is by gutting the trap on dodge roll, lowering the condition durations(spike 1/3 duration) or removing all but the first initial trap pulse (frost[2s chill]/vipers[6s poison ~ 1200]/fire[2s burn ~ 1200]).

Why would you want to buff the most commonly used ranger offhand? I think you have it a bit backwards as dagger and axe need love
Also companions defense kicks in at the start of a dodge roll, so in all reality you only get 1 second of usable protection instead of 2.
It looks very nice, If I were to suggest something though. The current pop up graphs are very short term, it would be nice if you could click on a player and “remake” the graphs with an elongated timeframe, like over the course of a month/season. I don’t know if all the information is being stored so I don’t know if it’s possible, but I love seeing the swings in the graph. The wins + loss graph kind of … not so useful :/
On page 3 currently there is a guy (named Terribad thief on NA pchow.1956) he won a single game in this update period however he dropped 41 ranks, how is this possible? Is there some way to stop your losses from popping up or something?

Probably a noobish stupid question but do you need to be on the same server as your guild? It seems a lot of the posts above don’t specify what server the guild is on which leads me to believe that you don’t have to be on the same server so I’m wondering how specifically that works??
In sPvP your server does not matter, you play with and against people from other servers. You can also guest to the more populated ones like Anvil Rock to run into more players, but that is pretty much the extent of it.
I am not really doomsaying, just trying to raise my concern as to my interpretation of what the leaderboards will be. The current format of top 100 is not helpful for anyone, relativistic rankings (based on other players) will not give us the information that we as players would find attractive. The real thing we wish to see is our rating (Glicko) so we can accurately see if we are improving or tilting, basically to keep track of where we are. A leaderboard is nice to try and make the remaining community more competetive in this environment, but allowing all players to view “where they stand” (not meaning relative) and track their progress would bring more players than a digit from 1 to 100 ever can.

The OP appears to have misspelled Ele in his thread, he might want to fix that.
The trap bunker build is simply too strong and has way too much sustain. The cooldowns on all these traps need to be doubled at least. This way, there is less incentive to run an all trap skill bar. Traps should be there when you need them, they shouldn’t be spammed. To compensate for this, the effects of the traps should stay on the field a few seconds longer and possibly do more damage. Point is, there shouldn’t be a build that allows for constant conditions on a point. It is unbalanced and it is the most faceroll and effective build in the game. The doubling of the cooldowns wouln’t make the skills useless, it would just mean that it isn’t your main source of damage. If you want to run a condition build there should be better options for that. For example, the shortbow should get a considerable buff in rate of fire, especially after the quickness nerf which is actually a pretty good change overall. The spread shot on the SB should also get a considerable increase in poison duration. If want to spam conditions, make it your actual weapon and not your utilities.

I do not mean to sound rude of your assessment, however both Necro and Engineer have AoE conditions on relatively low cooldowns, and are utilities just like traps (bomb kit, grenade kit, corrupt boon, epidemic). Necro also has 4 AoE’s on its staff and two more on S/D which is its common kit. Wells are all AoE as well which are more conditions in an AoE. It just seems you are not informed and wanted to make judgements, however I think you should make sure you are informed before you do so.
Toxic community needs to be fixed, to accomplish this I suggest we ban Natty again. But in all seriousness when people start harming how another player feels about their skill level in a rather blunt and rude manner that player is less likely to stay around. With the current numbers in sPvP I really hope people wise up and start thinking how they can help instead of how “superior” this makes them feel. I’d rather have more people to play with/against than to be the King of an abandoned land.

Rangers down state vs other downstates: OP, simple pet healing and heal yourself or damage enemy and no one can beat you when they are also down.
Rangers will always lose to a warrior in a downed fight and CAN lose to Necro as well with well timed fear and the poison. Ranger’s downed state can be countered by blind and Stability. There are downed states in the game that can bypass stability and blind with stealth/teleport/mistform which are uncounterable. In a one vs one fight I agree that if you draw out the fight vs a ranger and you are not a warrior, you have already lost the fight, however this is one situation out of many.
Thiefs trait to stealth below certain HP creates problems with revealed when you accidentally C&D at pretty much the same time as traits kicks in. Also other ppl cloaking you gets the revealed problem. The fix is rather bad as the chain cloaking also still works if you are concentrating on it.
Perhaps overly not overdoing the amount of stealth you bring as a stealth would be a better fix. This sounds more like an L2P thing, or are you advocating this as a “It will not trigger with the revealed buff up” kind of thing?
Certain modus, necro & ele for example, take 2 long and give them invulnerability … I think those moves should be removed or changed completely because everyone loves god mode, but not when playing eachother.
Necro is meant to be an attrition style character they do not really have any invulnerabilities only deathshround and plague form. Ele’s are just difficult because they have strong healing and a 60% protection coverage from a t1 trait and that is before taking into account other sources of protection and defensive abilities, they also have access to weakness so you could technically be doing 33% less damage or 50% less dmg due to weakness then auras etc. It it quite a bunch to deal with! Warrior and Ranger have blocks and evade skills respectively, They do not have any true damage immunity only endure pain style ability (which lets all condition damage through), Ranger’s can’t even really take it as both styles require the use of either a bear pet(nerf your damage) or 30 trait points in order to actually work.
More important though are things like the chat, people start ranting and raging about the professions … Keeps the game paced and a lot more teamwork.

I also think that there should be consequences for leaving a tournament game …This is not just in tournaments. Even losing should therefor be more beneficial than joining a new game.
I think if a player leaves a PvP tournament early. They should be forced to complete a PvE quest that takes about 15-20 minutes and requires no skill, is not entertaining in the least. Something like a maze with no minimap that leads to a jumping puzzle and at the end you unlock the ability to queue again. I think just locking someone out to afk 15-20 mins or “I went afk for the night and left the queue on” should be punished so that the break themselves of the bad habbit.
I often see outrageous onesided scores … This often makes for very 1 sided games, even if players are switched around every map.
It is hotjoin, it is not exactly designed to be a competetive area. Tournaments have a rating system to place you against similarly ranked opponents. Although its not working that well as people keep playing hotjoins, IMO they should just get rid of hotjoin and throw in a solo Q match on the tournament person that does not allow pre-mades, this would be of waaaay more benefit to the community than anything else.
In short, spent more time at the PVP system. Oppinions might differ but I also would say the Capricorn map is rather bad because water battles lack diversity in weapons making it very unballanced imo and very boring and annoying.

Capricorn IS an imbalanced map, I believe when it was released they said they had no intention of making it a tournament map. This was mostly due to underwater combat which is still not fixed to this day.
No matter how much attention PvP will get, we will always want more. There is no possible way to answer this question without any kind of bias.
Would also be nice to see conditions on yourself when you are down (ESPECIALLY BLIND) so you can time pulses properly, also petbar while downed since you can use the abilities easier.

I heard that the april event was so popular that they have decided to work hard on giving it a leaderboard as a first priority.
I’ve been working on an idea recently but the main idea for it is as follows:
Ranger Pet Mechanic Rework:
Reduce Pet Damage on autoattacks
Allow Pet to attack on the move
Remove autocast on the pet abilities 2-4
Replace F2 ability with “pet mode” (similar to a kit)
Pet mode replaces weapon abilities 2-5 with the pet abilities, ability 1 will be weapons base autoattack.
So ranger complexity increases, no more pet randomness it is all player controlled leaving much more room for player skill.
The downside to this system is that rangers will no longer be able to use pet abilities while downed. But for a more complex mechanic I would definately let that part go. Also pets chasing someone that far is a big ridiculous, however it should be noted there is already a max distance you can “sick” them on someone, there is also a max range that they will follow until force ported back to the ranger. Throughout this time the ranger will be without a pet, meaning you lost a 1v1 and are being punished for it, which is completely reasonable.
The ability is not an aoe stun break either, the stun break is for the ranger (and can be used out of range from the pet), the condition draw is only from the pet.
I’ve used it to break stun in TA after team members get knocked down…unless I’m crazy and am remembering wrong.
Might want to check on the duration of the stun, many are short durations so it may have worn off at the same time you clicked the ability. The only thing the ability removes for other players is the Conditions. Like I said the stun break effect is done even out of range from the companion, or when it is deceased. I don’t think one ability will have two separate blast radius’ from two separate sources (pet and player) and two different types. Although maybe in the future some of our “pet dependent” utilities will be reworked to work something like that and if the pet and player aoe’s overlap a 3rd effect happens. Would be neat, but anyway not in game atm.

- Guardians don’t have access to swiftness or teleports.
- Guardians cannot be bursted due to their high health pool.
- Guardians have great condition cleaning on Symbol DPS.
- Guardians are targetted first in team fights but are too strong so die last.
- All weapons are viable on all types of builds.

I don’t mean to sound rude, however I need you to explain some things to me as I do not play a Gaurdian. Why are there utility abilities that grant swiftness when you have said they do not exist. Why do teleports not exist, does the sword teleport and Judges/Merciful Intervention not count? How can Gaurdians possess a high health pool when they are in the lowest bracket for HP pools (last time I checked). Condition Clears for the class exist in more than symbol DPS builds, or are we talking about crazy amounts of condition cleansing. Why is the gaurdian targetted first when it is most likely to be the bunker? Your last point I have no insight into as I have said, I do not play Gaurdian at all. I have made sure and read over the post that you have quoted in order to make sure you were just pointing out things in the post that you found ridiculous, but none of them matched besides the 5th point. Thank you for the perspective you can give sir.
This is a most perplexing post. I have never seen someone ever say that considers themselves any sort of sPvP player that a warrior is in a good state that plays it, nor would I say anyone (other than magikarp) that damage staff ele is a good choice. I am not sure how to take this entire encounter as the only logical thing in my mind is that it never happened in the first place. Also right click-duel was the best addition ever.

There are two ways to think about this, either that mesmer is such a difficult class that the additional time is to make himself a better player. The other option is that it is ridiculously simple and they just want to give the player more time to actually learn to play. Pick which one gives you the most pleasing image and run with it.
I saw it with my own eyes. It was a little over 1.3k per tick. The burning was from a guardian.
Bleeding does similar or more damage.
I wish to meet the guardian that has the balls to run condition damage. But more likely what you were hit by was a torch off-hand which has an upfront damage ability that is in no way connected to burning damage.

Or do you think the build meta currently has too many, too little, or just the right amount of X type of w/e. I think this question needs more explanation.
Also, I do realize people want more game type modes, however think through of the risk that is involved in this. If you release more game mode types (meaning more options) and you do not multiply your playerbase all you do is take your small sPvP player base and segment them across different game types which increase wait times making people much more likely to quit. The player base needs to MULTIPLY (ie double/triple/quadruple) in order to implement these ideas without potentially killing the game.
