I keep seeing this topic being raised over and over again. With pretty much the same suggestions. I totally agree with them, it just annoys me that the Devs haven’t done anything with the feedback.
What concerns me more is that with specialisations the thief base class will just be overlooked. However the devs have said that they are going to rework P/P. So it’s not all doom and gloom.
I’m not counting on it.

Outfits don’t count. I want to customise my look so I don’t wear the same thing as everyone else. There should be more feminine options for other races. Three years is long enough to have the flexibility there.

Thief Nerfed to the garbage can. First things first (im a realist), what moron though it would be a good idea to make Cloaked in shadow, our ONLY damage mitigation a grandmaster making us choose between gaining 300 hp a second or getting blinds on stealth? the choice for that one is pretty clear, and if it isnt, well i feel sorry for you, you’re either new to the class or just decided you want to die alot. Also that trait alone is what made D/D thief valid in the first place.Second, Why would we play thief if mesmer can just outstealth and out burst us? It does our job better, more effeciently, and has more utility (mass invis., portal, etc.)
So much this, those trait choices just make no sense! Firstly blind on stealth was never a grand master trait (if I remember correctly) but more over it just doesn’t feel right in that trait line. We are basically forced to throw all of our traits into offensive lines in order to survive!? In other words, kill them before they kill you! The worst part being that it’s so easy to counter the opening bursts if you know what you are doing and lets not get into how overly countered shadow refuge is now.

There are some differences you’ll come to with kit-lighting v. practical lighting which can make a big difference in how you look.I also often make my selections with the kit, then back out of the choice and try to ‘guess’ what armor/dye I want to complete the look. Then I have to re-open the kit see if it works … repeat.
It would be nice if you could change armor / dye while in the total makeover kit.

Glad it’s not just my race. I’ve asked for a refund on the kits but we’ll see what happens.
I find total makeover kits really make or break. My character can look great in the makeover window and then when I apply it in game it looks terrible (Asura) I’ve had to burn through gems to rectify these horrible faces.
Why can’t we have a 10 second in game preview of our character before finalising the change?

I’ve read so much constructive feedback on this forum, some posts are better than others and I’ve always taken it with a grain of salt when someone comes on here to vent. I’ve continued to main my thief since beta despite the nerfs and like most players found ways of making the class work for me.
However I’ve gotten to the stage where I can’t bite my tongue anymore and I am genuinely furious. Thief requires so much effort to be successful when pvping which I was happy to put in but now I just find myself being walked over by mesmers, eles… everything! It’s not like it’s even a challenge for them, their classes are so buffed up and forgiving when they make mistakes. When I try to come up with new builds to work around it the options just aren’t there and I find myself just having to go back to a 1 hit wonder burst build which quite frankly is easy to counter and boring to play.
I could post lots of constuctive feedback but let’s face it people before me have already done it and probably put it better than I ever could. We have so many terrible traits, for example: cloaked in shadow needs to be put in to deadly arts instead of Improvisation which by the way is a horrendous abuse of a GM trait. Who on earth wants to use a stolen skill twice? I struggle to use some of them once! Please think about the combinations you are offering on the trait lines and what they offer the class!
lastly, Devs you are posting way to much faith in daredevil to fix the issues we have and it’s just plain wrong. We shouldn’t have to specialise to make the class viable. Fix the class as it is now because at the moment it’s the elephant in the corner.
And to the the keyboard warriors playing other classes who think thief is fine, please try maining thief for a spell instead of telling us our class is viable, it isn’t, end.
Agreed. I was watching a bw2 video from wvw with revenant and reaper effects flowing beautifully across the screen and the daredevil just looked Ben Affleck.
I’d like to add that the asura leaping animations with staff are really terrible. It’s like someone in the dev team said ‘just spin them around ten times like a pin wheel because asura are wacky!’ No…
The asura performs a very ugly lateral spin when in mid air. Please watch some butterfly spins on you tube and change the animation.

the auto attack feels disjointed. Like they don’t belong together. Does anyone else thing this?
Actually I think it’s the lateral spins that let it down. It just looks physically wrong. If you want something like that looks at a butterfly twist on youtube. It’s gorgeous at the moment it looks like a jet plan spinning out.
Can you please tone these down, maybe take out a rotation or two. It’s just way over the top and looks silly.

I just want to add my support to this complaint. I’m disappointed at how impacted thieves have been in general by the trait changes with some trait options just being poor such as poison on dagger strikes with dagger hit 2 already applying poison…
My main has been thief since beta and I love the class, it’s sad to see how one dimensional it’s become.
Why on earth would you come on here and totally ignore all of the forum posts plastered across the front page about how poor thief is just to post a nerf request.
I’m sure as hell not going to run D/P but if people want to be competitive that’s what they are having to run. There are numerous posts from thief’s complaining that they are having to run cheese builds and want more utility. If you want to moan at someone email a dev (which we’ve already asked to answer our concerns by the way).
No, fix the skills and traits that suck first. Some are just useless.

There’s been so many posts submitted regarding the lack of diversity the thief class now offers.
- Pistol ricochet being removed without a range buff or replacement trait.
- Mesmers out-stealthing us with little to no reveal.
- Vitality trait removed along with a lot of other survivor traits.
- Feline Grace and Shadow’s Embrace now not worth taking following nerf alienating most sword users.
Can we please have at least a response to say you have read and understand our feedback?
Ran into another of these tonight. Whether it’s skillfull or not, the play style is so cheap it’s apauling. I didn’t win one battle, out DPS’d, constantly outnumbered and out stealthed. What the hell were anet thinking?
P/P should be one of the funnest weapon sets available but as it stands it’s just bland and boring. I don’t think ricochet made it that much better but at least we got a range buff with it. I take pp in PvP with dd just for finishing off and kiting but it’s still crap and with the build changes I rarely get a chance to use them. Thief is either a one hit wonder or fodder for something else.
Totally agree with this. They seem to have a very short reveal as well.
Unfortunately the only viable build for theif at the moment is dagger dagger glass cannon which relies on bursting targets down ASAP. I’ve been forced to remove utility for might generation just to keep up. We don’t like it either.
I’ve had amazing success in PvP since the patch. Granted wvw is a lot different.
FYI every thief/Staff forum thread has been deleted. This hasn’t been the trend for rifle threads. Your thoughts?
It does work better. It’s just getting used to it.
Having watched the live steam they never even acknowledged it’s removal or explained it. I think players have a right to know the logic behind it particularly kitten many have used it as the main focus of their build.
I’ve found that I rarely have to use my dual pistols with my D/D build getting such a massive buff. Granted this is in PVP. I agree it’s not nice taking a weapon set that is just sat there unused. No way would I take short bow, yuk.
idk why you guys react so badly to my post. I already posted elsewhere that I am sorry for all my posts asking for thieves to be nerfed.
warhorn also has its uses like using it to call for allies to help fight or use it as a warning signal.
a thief is essentially a scout and it will be good to relay info back to his allies easily and quicklyI also posted elsewhere that I think mesmers are the real ones in need of a nerf.

It is rather frustrating to see such a great class nerfed into the ground. When ever I see one of these balance or feature patches we always seem to get perhaps 1 small buff and then its down hill from there.
When watching that dev on the video discussing all the class changes, he went through loads of cool additions on the other classes with thief being a blip on the radar. It was almost like we just got overlooked.
We already had a dev lead thread where many thieves posted possible balance changes and out of the pages and pages of suggestions we got maybe 2 or 3.
NO. It has a god kitten ring around it telegraphing where you are if people can’t grasp the use of knock back or AOE in this area then tough titty.
The 3 key on my keyboard collects dust when I’m using D/D. I don’t think it’s viable for condition or power builds (having played both) and I can’t see the point of going hybrid to utilize this skill. The dual skills on the other weapon sets are just so much better than DB and fit those sets. It DOES need a rework.
Just to keep people updated I switched out the traveler runes for Scholar and traited out mug for Fleet Shadow. My kill rate has gone way up without impacting on movement or survivability.
I tried running short bow along side D/D but I found I was using heart seeker to dart across the map more thank skill 5 on SB and dropped it for P/P for unload. The great thing now is that I’m catching those pesky players that try to run away where as I wasn’t with SB. Very happy.
I only really have an issue with them when there are 2 to 3 focusing me. They are still quite easy to burst down and send into panic mode.
Yeh I think you are running a similar build to me. I’m just not getting the kind of damage I want on some classes.
I officially hate you! I can only dream of these numbers. I may have to post my build and gear for some help.
Any D/D thiefs using rune of the traveler? I have a set on but I’m starting to think I would be better off with a power rune instead.

WvW has been pretty sad for me. I tried playing with my build to take advantage of the p/p changes but its just not powerful enough once you get past the oooo factor of numbers popping up when you unload into a group.
D/D is still my favorite but other class are walking over me without any thought.
This living story doesn’t seem to have the same impact as last year. Probably because its only impacting on dry top which I don’t visit anymore. I loved toxic alliance. The whole thing was fantastic right up to the gas mask that I worked my balls off for.
