I don’t think I’ve seen ANet reply on this topic yet. We desperately need ability to save/restore builds.

Please add a type of bag that automatically stores soulbound items and otherwise has the same properties as the invisible type bag. This would actually be really useful, as opposed to uncommon/rare/etc bags.
Bag for consumables would also be very nice.
I’ll be playing Elder Scrolls Online before the expansion to this game comes out. Better to play something that doesn’t have this kind of problem than to give Anet more money.
They’re never gonna fix it, it’s baked into the game. They may add in some options for WvW, but that doesn’t fix anything, that just allows us to choose how sucky the experience is.
No Gamebryo based game have ever performed well or had any sort of decent scalability. Try Rift, WAR, or anything before that. They all had the same issues with mass battles. Except GW2 just doesn’t show people until it is too late, where as those quite literally were a slide show. So I wouldn’t hold my breath for ESO to be any better.
I also completely agree with the rest of what you’re saying. I would not kick a ranger from my group, solely for the fact that he is a ranger. I’ve already said I think those 4war/1mes zerk only groups are idiotic. I have never kicked anybody from a PUG solely because of profession.
But is it because you would feel bad if you did, or because there was no good reason to? Lets be absolutely clear here, your sense of fairness has absolutely no bearing on questions of balance.
And lets no label things idiotic based on fairness either. I may not like typical CoF p1 groups because I am not welcome in them, but that doesn’t mean I don’t recognize that their group composition is superior.

As you can see on the screenshot, there is a large burnt spot on the left shoulder.
People keep parroting this rubbish over and over like they saying something deep and clever that others don’t understand. Yes, a good ranger player is better than a bad warrior player…. SO WHAT!? Would you take a good ranger over a good warrior? I dare you to come up with answer that doesn’t insult my intelligence.
Here’s an answer and I couldn’t care less if your intelligence is insulted:
I don’t care. Whoever gets there first gets the spot. My personal happiness doesn’t revolve around getting through a dungeon path in 7 minutes instead of 10. And it certainly doesn’t revolve around treating some other PERSON like dogkitten because their toon doesn’t live up to some ideal like I’ve seen in plenty of posts on this forum.
It’s not deep or clever. It’s not intended to be. So what?
Yeah you dodged it. Good job, now we can safely ignore everything that comes out of your mouth.
Oooooh, swing and a miss. That should be posted in the rangers forum then.
You can see OP clearly jumps from “I have dungeon master title, I have a warrior I gear up, I have a mesmer I use in open world, I just LFG, to party with me anytime, I’ll do the dungeons”
I’m only anti-ranger because my very first toon was a ranger. I’ve always played a ranger/archer in every other MMO I’ve played and am deeply disapointed with the ranger path they have taken. I know the class well, and know that they don’t bring anything to the party. Some easily destroyed spirits, a stupid AI micro-managed pet, and an aoe regen.
Ok, let’s start over, then. No snark.
Granted, the OP was a little rambling, but I think his primary point can be summed up with a couple of his lines:
“Post on gw2lfg saying warrior mesmer, need to ping gear, blaaa blaa blaaa, I ignore them, still get good groups. Class discrimination? Ignore it. Go for other post. Or post. LFG any path.”
“Ignore the bad paople on gw2lfg.com, find people like me.”
What the guy is saying is to ignore the “zerker warr ONLY” posts and find the ones where people don’t care that you’re a ranger, or an engi, or a necro, or whatever.
Since you’re a ranger at heart and like the class, why be part of the ranger hate? It’s not going to help the ranger get better.
I just don’t get the “as fast as possible” mentality of max DPS to get through a run in a couple minutes faster. I mean, I get the concept, but why be in such a rush? it’s a game.

I would say dredge is worse after the stealth kit nerf.
For cliffside as long as your teammates can pay attention and not kill the targetted mob and only kill from one side to charge the hammer it’s pretty straightforward.
Yes, that’s why I said it’s a wanted thing not a needed thing. The issue is that if you wipe on the panels it doesn’t pop 3x the amount of mobs from before. Cliffside does.
I would rather wipe 5 times on dredge than having to deal with 2 sides of super veteran cultists at 40+. That and the 40 bags after helps….
Don’t wipe?
Bring projectile reflects and other ranged shutdown. Just do it.

It is painful to see people going down over and over and not stopping to think “hey maybe I can change my skills just a tiny bit to make this like 100 times easier!”, and then getting kitten when you tell them to change.
Started happening probably a day ago.
I can’t see or hear some people in the party. For instance right now I am in CM dungeon with full group. However only 2 people show up on the party window and only they can be seen talking in the party chat.
Doesn’t happen every time. Leaving and rejoining party fixes it. My guess only people who join party after me are affected.
Oh please, it is not that long. Dredge fractal is much much worse. Cliffside is really not that bad. The only issue sis arm seals not resetting on wipe, but like many people said it rarely happens.
Really, the fix is to make the agony arrow shot easier to see. The grawl shaman attack are kidda difficult to detect. He does shoot fast arrows and his aoe practically has no warning animation
Pan your camera to look at the Shaman instead of staring at the ground under you. He has easy tell when he raises his bow.
i beg to differ. I am level 44 fract and he is friken hard to see when all adds hits like truck and his animation is hidden behind his shield.
Yes he is very easy to see when nothing is going on, but you have to realize his arrows might as well be invisible during the add phase.
I am doing support often, so I have problem turning my camera to see his bow. Usually, I am looking at his back
Guardian: 2 shields
Mesmer: 1 shield
Elementalist: 1 shield
Thief: blind field
Those are all the tools you need to ignore what shaman does while you disposing of his bubble and adds.
Fact: rangers are highly suboptimal for end game.
Fact: most people recognize the above statement as fact. The first is an opinion. Thus the second is also wrong.
Everything you said is wrong. GG I win.
The only problem in Fractals is max difficulty lvl 49! All other is challenge

EDIT:
wow that wasn’t even worst part about this vid. Wiping out left and right. Eating agony arrows like pancakes. The guardian on camera is pretty bad. Watching him trying to rez people hurt my brain.
If this was my run, first of all I would be kitten the nub team, but more importantly I wouldn’t be sharing the video of this.

Mesmer portal is a major overkill. If one can’t run from farthest point in time to make it, then just go in solo and practice run a few times. This part is so laughably easy, all you need is self speed boost, and it’s done in 30 seconds.
yeah it is borked in more than one way. There is an ancient thread about it applying only 1 second of speed buff if you already had speed buff on you.

@Zoef.2761
Stop spewing nonsense. You already faceplanted on basic argument of wherever or not ranger is any good for the team. What else you trying to prove here? Both players in bulk and this thread overwhelmingly shown that rangers have no place in end game. It is all around bad class that excels at nothing and not particularly good at being jack of all trades either. You can grasp for words all you want, but the vote has been cast and matter sealed, only you haven’t moved on.
I confirm, both issues still present.
I am not going to describe what the issue are, since that dead horse doesn’t need any more beating… So lets get to fixes.
0) Fix pet aggro. More specifically fix NPCs prioritizing aggro on pets over people.
This is not even a point, but rather a pre-requisite. Once you address that, you can actually begin properly balancing ranger class without looking back at general PvE and bots.
Yes, rangers will need actual effective utility skills to compensate, and fixing pet aggro will make it obvious enough for ANet to see the issue.
1) Add key binding to switch pet passive/aggressive modes. This is very much needed.
2) Give pets flat 75% damage reduction from AoE. This is no longer just a dungeon issue. New scaling events guarantee that any melee pet get 1-shotted on approach.
3) Fix traits. This is a huge topic, but in short half of the ranger traits are in wrong trees, and other half just buffing ranger to what other classes do naturally. Piercing Arrows and Signed of Beastmaster are best examples of that. Those should be default effects.
4) For Greatsword:
- Maul doesn’t need damage increase. Maul needs to be a blast finisher and apply decent condition (bleed on GS? seriously?) I would settle on weakness instead of 3 bleeds.
- Counterattack is counter-intuitive. It should be knocking target down instead of knocking it back. Also make it 2-3 seconds KD. For a reactive skill that isn’t too much at all.
5) For Axe
- fix Splitblade. It often aborts cast for no bloody reason. Make it either directional AoE or untargeted skill, or just reduce cast time to 1/4. Speed up the projectiles too. In its current state it is pretty bad. Also I think it still doesn’t work properly with Sharpening Stone, though I haven’t tried recently.
- Redo both off hand skills. Currently useless.
6) Call Of the Wild is pretty disappointing, especially if you consider its the only party buff rangers have. Either make it good running skill or a good fighting skill. Right now it is below average at both (just like everything about ranger).
7) Sword. Seriously need to fix auto attack root. Make it evasion like GS instead… or whatever, just let us move with it.
8) Spirits need complete rework
9) Shouts need reduced CD by like factor of 4 or 5 before they aren’t complete waste of support slots.
@Leo G.4501
so you basically you arguing semantics for the sake of the argument.
I came to similar conclusion as many people here after playing ranger at 80. Ranger is just bad in end game content. They have poor support, and have to work twice as hard to just deal damage, which comes naturally for other classes. Pets are a dead horse. No point in beating it further.
I watched the recent dev interview and does not look promising either. So if you wanna run end game content – do yourself a favor and reroll.it’s acceptable if you are a skilled player.
For my ranger in dungeons I run full glass cannon with Longbow/shortbow, quickness on pet swap. I also take muddy terrain and Entangle for some excellent CC in places like fractals shaman boss and charr fractals charging warriors.
Please do not ever use longbow. You are willingly making yourself a waste of a party slot. Use Axe/Warhorn for your second set. At least you can throw some buffs and bleeds on swap instead of just doing horrid DPS that nobody will even notice if it is gone.
Actually you can hit as high as 14k shots with rapid fire on longbow as full glass cannon+ food, Add in Piercing arrows trait, and that’s some very nice AOE damage.
I would not say that is nothing and not noticeable. In fact when we do shaman boss, if the dps isnt high enough in my pug to take down the vets, i’ll grab the ranger and spike them down no problem. With quickness on pet swap + quickening zephire, you can almost always have quickness up to run through your longbow rapid fire, barrage and +10 vulnerability shot, then you can switch to shortbow again to maintain the DPS. Add in your openning shots trait, thats +15 stacks of aoe vaulnerability. Your barrage also serves a large aoe damage and cripple to slow mobs, particularly useful in dredge fractal. Even Point Blank Shot can be used very effectively to line up and shoot back charging warriors in the charr fract, or other undesired mobs.
Warhorn’s birds are nice, but the fury skill is useless because you can trait to gain fury on weapon swap anyway, and a warrior in your party will always be a better source of fury than you are, Also that one stack of might and swiftness is a bit of a joke. And speaking of bad damage, the axe is rather poor.
You are ( I suppose) referring to a condition build, but this is not the only build available and I find it rather sad that you would belittle others because they don’t do the same as you.
Well, excuse me for assuming you would run a condition build since you have a shortbow in there. If you are not, then the shortbow is a waste of the equip slot. No matter how you turn it, its a pretty bad combo.
Thanks for bringing up Piercing Arrows btw. Note how it is a pretty much required trait for any bow build, and yet no other class have to trait into cleave for their weapons. If you look closely that is exactly how everything about ranger is. They need to trait and spec deeply into things that come naturally to other classes.
Oh, you want 30% of your damage to not be perpetually dead? You’ll have to micro it back and forth (which of course defeats the main purpose of keeping it alive) or trait deeply into BM hurting the rest of you damage. No other class have to do that.
Want your signets to work? There is a trait for that too!
The reason trust isn’t happening is primarily because you say nothing to back it up besides “Everyone else admits it, so it’s True!!! Promise!”.
Yeah, no. People parade their opinion on things on the forum, always wildly generalizing things with misconceived theories, artificially generated scenarios mix with outright being wrong. And the error never wants to be corrected. The forum will go on thinking they’re right and regurgitating the same nonsense despite being wrong, despite evidence to the contrary. All you point to is War/Mesmer speed running CoF 1 and the number of shiny boons of a Guardian or the other posts bashing Ranger as evidence.
I don’t simply mistrust the opinion of the forums and yourself, I think it’s wrong. Utilizing a class and their weapons/tools properly can go a long way and I feel at least 40% of the back talk on the class is due to poor utilization. Another 30% is just the minority min/maxers theorycrafting scenarios.
Of course, I could be wrong in all of this, but it doesn’t seem like it. Maybe if the haters weren’t all talking in hyperbolish, their opinion might sound logical. But I could work on another bullet point on my lengthening list of “What the forums was wrong about”.
See the difference between you and me is that I have experience with more than one class and you don’t. Until you show me otherwise your opinion on the topic is void.
You scream that I have no proof, because obviously hundreds of threads (crying about state of rangers) popping up all over these forums every day is not enough evidence. News flash: I don’t have to prove you kitten. You are not paying me to crunch numbers for you, so you go and try it. Come back when you have an informed opinion.
Right now you just throwing baseless statement like “oh rangers can do all things”. Bullcrap. Rangers can’t do anything good, which makes them obsolete in end game party. Their theoretical single target DPS with 100% pet uptime isn’t bad. In any real dungeon encounter they do joke damage.
Support? What support? Healing spring (which is useless on its own), and what else?
You want me to list all the buffs and heals my guardian outputs, while still doing better DPS on typical trash pull?
You have shown NOTHING to support your outlandish opinions. All you do is trying to make me prove you things that are common knowledge. Keep it up and you’ll end up in my block list.
Trollhammer: U are simply not capable of making the distinction between facts and your own narrowminded opinions. Calling your opinion a fact doesn’t make it a fact. It just shows how shallow your reasoning is and how weak your arguments. That’s the reason you call your opinions “reality”, “facts” and so on.
I have already admitted that warrior has better DPS than ranger. No argument about that. Why does warrior have better DPS? Because that’s typical for warrior.
I have already admitted that guardian has better healing than ranger. No argument about that. Why does guardian have better healing? Because that’s typical for guardian. I can’t see what point you’re making by kicking in open doors.
My point is that ranger does both which makes the class a valuable supporting class. You dont seem to get that.
Btw: i got a fully geared up warrior. What exotic armour or ascended armour has got to do with reasoning in a decent way I dont know. But then again, your opinions are “facts” and you definitely dont like them to be questioned. Not a very sound base of thinking, and that’s just my opinion, not a fact.
You are talking out of your kitten and I already told you why. All you have left is getting all defensive with your typical “oh its just your opinion” bs. No, it is not.
Fact: rangers are highly suboptimal for end game.
Fact: most people recognize the above statement as fact.
Fact: you don’t have sufficient experience with another class to see the difference.
Stop defending your favorite class out of childish pride, and try out other toons. They are better at what they do and with much less effort. There is absolutely nothing that ranger brings to the team that is valuable, not one thing, nor as a package.
@Zoef.2761
How many complete dressed in exotics/ascended lvl80 toons do you have? Your point about warriors and guardians shows how utterly clueless you are about other classes.
Ranger DPS is bad. Not just worse than warrior’s, not even better than guardians, it is plain bad, no excuse.
Ranger healing? Whats that? The only thing that even remotely qualify is other people splashing of the Healing Spring. Ranger himself cannot do it. Guardian can heal way better, tank, DPS and provide other non-healing buffs (yes, in a single build). What does ranger do? Nothing noticeable to the party, thus the point: rangers are bad. It’s not my opinion, it’s a fact and only you haven’t accepted it yet.
@Leo G.4501
You don’t know and you don’t trust me. Fine, then go and try it, end of story.
@Leo G.4501
It seems to me you just repeated what I said, but reworded to make it look like you are correcting me.
Do you or do you not have a point opposing to mine? Or you just grasping for words for the sake of continuing pointless argument?
Here is mine: Rangers are bad and you are better off bringing any other class.
Now lets hear yours.
@Renegade.6325
Ranger doing more damage than a guardian? Maybe on a single target, but not by much. On trash mobs my support specced guardian does way more damage than my DPS specced ranger, simple because of cleave on every attack
You’d be wrong. By the way you describe them, a ranger will get your party killed by just being there. IMO, alot of the talk giving about Ranger is the fact that they aren’t optimal but that’s far and away from being a detriment.
You deal in relative terms but fail to grasp the irony of it. Being suboptimal is a detriment.
Noun
1. The state of being harmed or damaged.
2. A cause of harm or damage.Being suboptimal isn’t taking the HP out of your health orb nor putting more power in the hands of the enemy.
It is if you consider 5 optimal classes as a baseline.
It is what? Taking HP out of your health orb?
I’d like to see you prove that.
Are you playing stupid? You have 5 optimal classes. You replace one with suboptimal class. Clearly your group efficiency is at loss.
Whats so hard to understand here? You had more damage and support and now you have less. More becoming less is not harm to you?

This is true and holds true for every other profession out there. I run FoTMs 26/28 with 2 rangers in my party. Haven’t had a problem really. We do have a PPT Warrior and PPT Guardian and usually the 5th is a PUG and we don’t particularly care what class it is, we work around it and get the job done. Simple enough.
Compare apples to apples please. Is skilled ranger player better than a random warrior PUG? Yeah, so what? Skilled warrior player will be even better.
It’s just a shame that rangers & engineers seem to carry this terrible stigma, neccies and eles to a lesser extent (I think…)
People don’t come up with a class to hate on just for the sake of hating. Rangers are bad – that is just the reality, and the hate reflects that quite well.
I came to similar conclusion as many people here after playing ranger at 80. Ranger is just bad in end game content. They have poor support, and have to work twice as hard to just deal damage, which comes naturally for other classes. Pets are a dead horse. No point in beating it further.

I don’t have any issues with the boss. Actually both bosses (Mining Suit and Elemental) are pretty decent. What kills me is the seemingly endless stream of trash mobs that spam protection, regen, CC and AoE, and are immune to blind.
Dredge is an incredibly tedious fractal. Everyone I do 48s with hates it.
@Jettit 25 stacks is unsurprising given 50 people and that all stacks are maxed at 25. What is surprising that 5 man dungeon encounters result in 18 stacks. That looks flat out broken.
