Each new piece of AR gear is meant to allow you to progress to further fractal levels, which have increasingly better rewards compounding with higher scaling difficulty.

I am sure it was already said like thousand times, but allow me to reiterate: Wearing a piece of obscure stat gear doesn’t make one more skillful. In fact the opposite is true. People have trouble completing 20+ and 30+ fractals with agony resistance required, yet other people beat 40+ just fine, even though none of them have the required AR yet.
The whole concept of agony is useless and insulting to players, when increased difficulty on the encounter is plenty for telling who deserves better rewards. Why can I not complete level 50? Why show me a big fat finger at the very end, when I’ve already proven to be skilled enough by getting there?
I am sorry, but this is absurd. It goes against GW design philosophy we knew and loved where player skill is above gear.

That isn’t entirely true tho, you might be able to do easy fractals like underwater or swamp or deadge, but some bosses that you can’t dodge the agony will kill you without required AR, but I also see your point.

We got pretty hard onse on the way to the maw and we were fine, but the agony at maw killed us, I’d say make the maw it self stronger as a boss, not agony, that you can’t dodge or do anything against you just die because your gear isn’t good enough, not because you as a player isn’t good enough.

Only the Maw has the agony that can’t be dodged. All other fractals are perfectly doable at 40+, have been for weeks before last patch and still are.

Refine movement in combat mechanic

The issue: whenever running around PvE areas or in WvW you get tagged by some random NPC (which has no chance to even scratch you), which instantly applies movement penalty. This is an unnatural mechanic that can be pretty annoying.

How about instead: movement penalty is applied when you draw your weapon. Disable automatic draw when entering combat. Obviously still auto draw when activating weapon skills (but not support skills).

Pros:

  • You slow down when you want to fight and you don’t slow down when you don’t want to fight.
  • Above still valid for PvP. If you want to get to your target faster – sheathe your weapon.
  • Mechanic that is natural and makes sense.
  • Make sheathing more than just cosmetic thing.
  • Additional balance dimension (if ever needed) to adjust speed penalty based on weapon size.

Other semi-related ideas

  • Add sprint option for every class at hefty expense of endurance
  • Add endurance cost to the existing leap/sprint weapon skills

The bottom line is that getting places shouldn’t be tedious. It is already possible to run through and skip alot of encounters in Cursed Shore and dungeons in particular, it is just really annoying for some classes.
And if ANet wants to prevent us from running through some encounters, they can easily give mobs some movement CC skills. That would be much preferable to a blunt and unfair penalty on the entire game.

Please add a tab to the character screen with the status of dailies for the dungeons. It could be as simple as:

  • Ascalonian Catacombs path 1, 2 and 3
  • Arah path 3
  • Fractals tier 3 and 4
  • etc…

Reason being that it is pretty hard to keep track of these things on multiple characters.

Whats with this Solaria/Lunaria garbage? Whats with MF gear? Anybody using those?

But hey, here are two Berserker sets (one with Berserker and one with Valkyrie jewel) – wtf is the point of that?
Here are also two Rabid sets (one with Rabid and one with Apothecary jewel) that nobody needs.

Are you going to add essential gear after we’ve already spent time and resources getting gear we don’t need just to be able to keep up with agony?

Change daily token bonus based on path completion.
A complete 3 path dungeon run currently yields 180 tokens with 60 tokens for each path (20 for completion + 40 daily bonus). Change it so that completing any one path gives you 20 tokens only, while completing all 3 gives daily bonus of 120. Same total (20 + 20 + 20 + 120 = 180), but people can no longer farm single path.

Additionally above values should be subject to a reasonable multiplier based on dungeon length. I mean CoF and AC rewards could use significant reduction, while Arah could use a buff.

RNG is bad. Bad, bad, bad. RNG is like a slap in the face, when some dead weight just reaching lvl20 is getting the weapon you were after for weeks. Please get rid of RNG entirely.

Instead add following recipe to the mystic forge:
1) X mist essence shards
2) Y gifts of ascension
3) a weapon of choice to act as a base for the fractal weapon
4) Z of other random junk that goes into forge (dust/philosopher stones/etc.)
Where X, Y and Z are adjusted as needed.

It used to have 5 torches that needed activating, pugs don’t like coordination. And I dare not mention kits, that rustles alotta jimmies.

The path itself also takes longer than the other 2, and everyone is in such a rush these days..

Another miss on Archdiviner mechanic: PBAoE he uses in phase 2 is easy to dodge. Watch for the stability buff on the boss. As soon as stability comes up, count to 1 and dodge (i know it sounds stupid, but dodging instantly would be too soon). He also usually pulls someone in before using this attack. If you were pulled in, simply dodge as soon as you get up.

The part about the Ascalonian boss doesn’t match with my experience. I have seen him run around with greatsword at 25 percent.

Only if you are close enough. I.e. is someone got downed by PBAoE and people tried to rez them. There is no reason to be there in the first place. PBAoE he throws by itself is enough to down people on 30+.
Simply going max range on the boss at 50% solves that.

Note on Old Tom: Actually biggest threat is the darts he fans around. They do most of the damage. Poison just makes it harder to tank them.
This a really trivial fight if you have 2 guardians with Shield of Avenger (I think mesmer bubble will work too) to completely shut down darts. Don’t even need to bother with the crystals/fan.

Minor clarification. Feedback does not work on the darts. Wall of Reflection doesn’t work. Sanctuary does work. However, he has another projectile atk (an electric ball projectile of sorts) which can be dealt with feedback.

I think it can be summed up as: Projectile absorbs work. Projectile reflects don’t work.

I have a question about fractals. Say you get one that you have trouble completeing, like the swamp. Or something bugs and you just decide to go back to the lab. Does it reset your entire count of 3 fractals you have to complete to advance in fractal lvl?

Note on Svanir Shaman: His every attack applies debuff stack. Reaching 10 stacks will freeze you. Ice breath just applies those stacks pretty fast, but by itself does not cause freezing. It should be dodged whenever possible.

Note on Jelly Beast: I have not noticed that electric cages do any significant damage to the boss. The way I see it, they are there to easily clear the adds.

Note on Ascalonian boss: He will use melee weapons until 50% health. At that point he will switch to staff and do his PBAoE, which will wipe out friendly NPCs. Assuming NPCs are dead and nobody tries to engage him in melee at that point, he will continue to use staff attacks, which are really easy to dodge.
Moral of that story: 100%-50% unload on him in melee. 50%-0% – go max range.

Note on Jade Maw: Agony applied is universal. It is impossible to dodge or block or negate with immunity skills. If your group wipes on agony phase and comes back, the agony is reapplied upon entering Maw’s island.

Note #2 on Jade Maw: It is possible to use guardian skill Binding Blade right before a tentacle dies to produce multiple shards (sometimes up to a dozen). I am assuming this is intended behavior and not a bug, though I haven’t seen any confirmation of that.

Change various dungeon/fractal/WvW tokens into currency like gold or gems, instead of them being constant inventory pollutant.
This is especially pressing issue with badges of honor. Not because of the storage space, but because you constantly have to mash F in large fights, which is lame and unnecessary.

  1. Mossman still can be bugged by attacking him from the tree. Please fix, and while at it please reduce his HP pool – we are here to prove skill, not patience.
  2. Jade Maw still desyncs attack/sound/animation. Still often attacks dead pets and people (i.e. things that cannot possibly take any damage).
  3. Krait slavers at the beginning of the underwater fractal still occasionally get stuck in the ceiling.
  4. People can still reroll fractals in the beginning until they get an easy one. Add some kind of lockout timer for too many rerolls or something.

You do realize just about anyone involved into this conversation can dwarf your ego post, right?
You got lucky, big deal. My lvl40 chests rarely contain anything more than 1 rare, but that is not even the point. The point is dredge fractal is absurd. It doesn’t take any special skill to sit there dazed for a minute straight while ranged people clearing kitten off you. It is boring, annoying, tedious and lame. You can call it “challenge” if you want, but most of us disagree.

Dear ANet,
Please understand that when I type more search terms I expect to get fewer results. The point of specifying multiple terms is to narrow down the results. That is how search engines work.

For instance when I type “worn scale” I expect to get Worn Scale Coat, Worn Scale Boots, Worn Scale Helm, etc. I.e. the stuff that has both terms in it. Instead I get everything with either “worn” or “scale” in its name. That is not a particularly useful search, which becomes practically useless search if I try to sort the results.

This is obviously by no means a game breaking issue, but for someone who implemented this type of functionality many times before, this looks very unprofessional.

How much % health total do you drop from the agony? 160%, 240%? I assume you’re labelling it as impossible because of full agony wipes?

I am curious as to where did you actually see the word “impossible”. Or you just talking to yourself? Well, since you clearly have not a slightness clue what I am talking about, I shall elaborate.

On Jade Maw lvl40+ the agony phase is a guaranteed wipe. You can’t outheal it. Doesn’t matter how low your HP pool is and how strong your heals are. It just drops people with 30AR in 3 ticks.
Other things you should know about agony phase.

  1. Unlike regular agony applied by other bosses it ignores all invulnerability skills.
  2. It doesn’t end with wipe. Agony is reapplied back on you after you reenter the island with Jade Maw on it.

So there is literally NO way to avoid complete wipe at least once on each agony phase.

There are two ways (that I know of) to complete this:

  1. Ranger can rez people with Search And Rescue from a safe distance (agony is not applied to pet)
  2. Someone has to use rez orb

Neither of those are particularly inspiring options. First one is relying on a bug, and second one is clearly broken boss encounter mechanic.

Given that, it seems the only conclusion is that level 40 and beyond dailies are not meant to be completed with current possible max AR. That also seemed pretty lame to me, so I created this topic hoping that perhaps there is some other strategy people have found to complete this legitimately.

Again, so much use of the word “exploit”. I prefer to think of it as advantageous terrain use and knowledge of enemy AI.

If purposely pulling a boss in such a way that bypasses all his mechanics is not an exploit, then I don’t know what is.

At level 80 it costs me ~8 silver to re-trait the last time I did, Which was in fact cheaper than the time before when I did it at level 80. It’s extremely cheap.

How is this a problem?

  1. You need to go back to LA to do it, which may or may not be an option.
  2. You need to redo your build from the scratch, which is especially a problem for people who toy with different builds alot and need at least a few baseline builds to keep track of stuff.

I personally support OP. This was perfectly implemented in GW1, so why not GW2?

Allow salvaging ascended rings

Please. I already threw away a bunch and still have a collection of infused rings with decent stats polluting my storage. In contrast I only had one fractal weapon skin so far, and it was not even something I could use on my main toon.
Ideally you could salvage rings for some new material used to construct fractal skin weapons. If not, even just salvaging them for ectos would do.

How to kill the thief in WvW scenario

Stay together in a tight ball if your party is getting struck.

Spam ground targetted AoE on self (Usually thieves like to sit right next to you when they are stealthed)

Spam Melee weapon skills only in case of daggerstorm.

AoE heals help, Aegis helps. Anticipation of the backstab and dodge rolling away from it helps.

Thieves are not OP. Its just only few people know how to kill them.

I swear most of the time players scream at their monitor saying “whats going on?” instead of taking a chill pill and actually pay attention. You should know what the thief can do , and know that continuous dps destroys a thief. Don’t waste time sitting there throwing up boons. Just lay down your ground target aoe and watch him run away.

The only thief that can get away from this is a pistol/pistol thief that uses unload. Most WvW thieves are Shortbow with D/D.

Also players, don’t stare at your skill bar while in combat. This is PvP action combat, not turn based.

So what you’re saying is to beat 1 thief you need half a dozen people, immobile, spamming aoe and heals in the hope of beating 1 perma invisible godmode thief.

Not to make it too simple for you but do you not see the glaring imbalance there?

I kinda thought OP is being sarcastic here… but maybe not?

I agree. By removing holy trinity (or more specifically dedicated healers) they gave a free reign to burst damage, because it is very hard to mitigate with ones own heals and mitigation. Currently burst damage is not balanced in couple of ways:

  1. burst is not balanced against defensive skills
  2. burst is not balanced by itself compared to what it takes to execute it

We need more effective anti-burst tools. We need skills like Shield Bash, Shield Stance, prot spirit, Smoke Powder Defense, etc. from GW1.

Thiefs unloading 10k+ in 2 hits before target have any chance to react are broken on a whole different level. If they are to keep their stealth as an offensive tool, their whole focus needs to shift to conditions and away from straight up damage.

They need to bring back Hard Mode from GW1, that way you can have your casuals stick to the normal mode and still do content and let your skilled players have a challenge for themselves and you could just have it reward more tokens or add new skins to the vendor, because we all know it will cause a kitten storm Hard Mode should not reward better stats for gear or be required for ascended armor/weapons when they are released. There is no problem tho with having almost a legendary armor skin available only from Hard Modes so everyone can see your accomplishment.

HM was essentially a stats/level buff to all the mobs making them damage sponges that can 2shot you. That’s a fundamentally broken approach that most games take because it is easy to implement. So you can have that in any other game. In fact we already have that in GW2. Many bosses are just giant punching bags, and so are high end fractal trash mobs.

The reason I personally like GW1 PvE is because they made it challenging by adding decent combat AI instead of buffing HP/DPS numbers through the roof. Starting with Nightfall high level areas and all the way to War in Kryta PvE was fun. More challenging in HM of course, but not because of increased number. NPCs were coupled into coherent groups playing various gimmicks from HoH. They kited and rezzed eachother. They used REAL skillbars available to players. They were so good, they could act as PvP prep school.

So to answer your point: No, HM is not equal fun. If you really think it is, you can try any other MMO out there that already does it your way. I’d rather see more intelligent/skillful PvE encounters rather ones with absurd amount of HP and damage.

Common Fractals Bugs

  1. Sound bug in the Dredge fractal. Repeated “peoew” and nothing else. Reported by multiple people.
  2. Invisible dredge shooter. Apparently some of the adds that spawn during the bomb run end up stack in walls, but still able to shoot you. Combat log registers their damage as “Unknown”.
  3. People still occasionally die after Jade Maw event, even if they did have shard in their hands.
  4. Charr followers in urban combat fractal refuse to engage enemy unless attacked first. This is problematic since the whole point of having them is to absorb initial burst from Ascalonian warriors/mages.
  5. Mossman and the final boss in the frozen fractal are still perfectly glitchable into a state where their combat AI just gives up.
  6. Archidiviner also has this issue, though not permanent, so he eventually resets. Though this one is not caused by stacking in unreachable areas. I speculate that something with necromancer skills does it.
  7. As a guardian I spend 90% of the second Archdiviner fight in a cage. It is probably not a bug, but incredibly annoying.
  8. Jade Maw sound/animation still often goes way out of sync with the damage from its ray. I speculate that hitting it with a crystal while it is attacking does it.
