2v2 WvW

in WvW

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

Well, since even breathing a few acronyms having to do with specific servers instantly turned into toxic forums redux, let’s try this again.

Anet, since 1v1v1 is inherently unstable as a level playing field, can I suggest a 2v2 WvW instead of 1v1v1. Have two servers be in alliance against two others each week. This would be the best of all worlds. It would keep server loyalty alive, continue the fun of server politics, mix up the situation to make it interesting, and not rely so much on victory by vote.

Yeah, I got it, you already built HoT. Maybe you can file this somewhere to consider later.

If you cant handle Tier 1, don’t bother pushing for it.

I wish there was a deathmatch map that was free for all so that you could even kill allies. Food /stacks everything and anything is permitted. And a score tab of the top 10 highest killers is kept. Friendly fire off.

That would be fun. WTB Open-World PK.

Questions about balance

in Thief

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

Franxi, it’s becoming fairly evident the balance team has no clue what they are doing.
Like I’ve said before, Thieves have had issues, but for the most part these flaws were well hidden from the unkeen observer. What the _explatives_ did was basically *rip away the veil masking those flaws*, instead of fixing them.

Thieves needed more condition removal. What did they do?
Reduced condition removal.
Thieves needed more build diversity. What did they do?
Combined almost everything into 1-2 lines.
Thieves needed more weapon improvements. What did they do?
Pigeon-holed Thieves into even fewer options.
Thieves needed better team support. What did they do?
Gave venoms 1 additional charge.
Thieves needed better options outside of Shadow Arts/Stealth. What did they do?
Gutted the alternative line to Shadow Arts/Stealth.
Everyone cries about stealth and how Thief/stealth needs nerfs. What did they do?
Gave even more stealth-to Mesmers. And everyone rejoiced.
*Buffing buffed things and nerfing nerfed things.* This is becoming an Anet trend and it just boggles my mind.
What makes things so much worse is when questioned on things, the devs seem to panic or go into deer-in-headlights mode, giving incredibly vague, even sometimes down right condescending answers.
They have turned their game into a burst or bust. Any and all strategy or skill has gone out the window. Now whoever can close rank fastest and hit first wins. *It’s appalling what they’ve done to their own game.*

I’m convinced the driving force for creatively ensuring us the best possible Guild Wars is long gone. Meaning they don’t really care about the lore or legacy, they are more concerned with making money and less about what makes Guild Wars, Guild Wars. So they pump out these bad, and god do I mean bad, updates every 6 months that totally bork balance and put the game on it’s head. They create a false sense, an illusion, of new content, better balance, and more things to do. And GW2 players eat it up. Thus the song and dance continues.

I have had nothing nice to say about Anet for a long, long time now. I’m glad some of you are finally coming around and seeing things for what they actually are. This game had so much potential, but *it is being driven down the toilet so fast it’s almost comical.* At this point in time, I think Anet should just go for broke by bringing back Trahearne and reintroducing Kormir, then reveal they have a love child and this love child holds the key to defeating all the elder dragons.
I no longer enjoy playing this game. The fun just isn’t there. I only log in for daily crafting/APs and to talk to friends and that’s it. I gave up on Thief and refocused on my Necro. But now I’ve come to see the huge glaring issues Necro has. So I’m at the point of throwing my hands up because all my energy and efforts seems to feel wasted. I have a sneaking suspicion HoT is going to be a shiney polished deuce, with a little lore sprinkled on top. It might be the death knell. The saddest thing for me will be the young *newcomers with no knowledge on how great things once were compared to the deuce they are playing.*

^This. Spot on. Literally took the words out of my mind. Kudos.

I still play my S/D thief (and still run w/o Shadow’s Rejuvenation). I enjoy the challenge. *Salute*

Thinking of Trying Thief

Try it out, i does not cost you anything ....

But i think you will have a hard time coming from NG / Nec - current state of the thief requires a lot of proactiveness + knowledge what you can do and what not.

You have not even a second when you are in a bad spot .

^This. No joke. Especially for WvW/PvP. GL in whatever decision you make, though.

Shadow's Embrace REVERT CHANGE

in Thief

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

Meh. Another major nerf to thieves, especially with the predominance of MINDLESS condi-spams from every other class in PvP and WvW. ANET is a business; they will cater to the masses, and since there has been plenty of QQ about thieves since the history of the game...logic dictates the obvious. I wonder if any ANET devs actually roll a thief to seriously play in PvP and WvW. And when I mean "seriously" I mean like a seasoned thief player and experience the nerfs first-hand in real-time. I have yet to see one.

--RIP condi-cleanses; Rip vigor buffs--

In any case, I’ll still be playing my thief. Will continue to work on improving my thievery craft. #teef4lyfe

Food for thought for ArenaNet

in PvP

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

+1. I would love to see a 20v20 Deathmatch game-mode (maybe even with possible different map-rotations). I remember thats all I used to play in games such as Age of Empires and Counter-strike.

ANet is just too invested in the PPT/PvE game-mode on a business level. Even their tPvP and WvW game modes emphasize these with NPC interaction in a PvP setting. Moreover, the new tPvP Stronghold map and probably the new WvW Borderlands maps are even more dependent on this previous game design.

It is rather disappointing, but perhaps some other game company (if not ANet) grasps this concept and implements it well for players interested in this game-mode in the coming future and profits greatly, as a result.

Thief's Appeal

Fast playstyle, squishy yet very deadly in the right hands.
Initiative, so I don’t have to wait for cooldowns. One can use the weapon skill that fits when you need it/want it.

Plus I also always play a “rogue/assassin” type of class, and even tho thief is not an assassin, it’s the closest I get in this game.

Plus, dodging with other classes just doesn’t feel the same after playing a lot on thief :P

^This. Life on the edge, fast and action-filled. I too main rogue/assassin-style characters in MMORPGs. Its become a habit of nature. Go figure.

Why do people get mad...

in Thief

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

(1) Bad players do exist and are very vocal (sadly) with little (if any) self-reflection involved (sadly) ... this results in any and all thieves being complained about.

(2) Thief has an awesomely high skill ceiling ... this allows those cream-of-the-crop Thieves to do amazing things leave even good players facedown in the dirt ... but it is skill coupled with the fact that the Thief class isn’t inhibiting that skill.

^This. I love thief QQ. Have enjoyed it in every MMO in which I’ve main’ed a thief/assassin.

Thief or Ele?

in Thief

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

oops, sorry for the typo. I mean Ele or Thief. Thank you for the quick replies!

Thanks for your clarification! I main both thief (all wep sets except s/p) and ele (d/d, occasionally staff). There are various resources at your disposal for both professions (e.g. GW2 class forums, Reddit threads, Youtube videos, Twitch streams, etc.) demonstrating gameplay and mechanics.

My suggestion would be to experience both classes. Both are enjoyable and provide high risk/high reward. Depending on build type you can further enhance your experience.

################################

BASICS: Thief
As a thief, you will have high damage potential, have access to stealth, able to engage/disengage at will. Versatility/mobility will be your greatest asset as thief.

In regards to WvW, you will fit the role of a roamer, scout, havoc, etc.

In PvP settings, you will provide support to your teammates by quickly eliminating threats by "+1"-ing fights and/or decapping. Overtime, if you become competent enough, you can also eliminate threats on your own (off-point) to relieve pressure off your teammates.

################################

BASICS: Elementalist

As an elementalist, you may build for great sustain (d/d), high damage potential (s/f, s/d), or high support (staff). Your greatest strength as an elementalist is your support with numerous boons, damage potential, and powerful heals/condition removals.

In WvW, you can fit a role as a roamer (d/d, s/d, s/f(?)). And are also desirable in zergs as one of the GWEN classes; especially staff elementalists, since they bring great AOE healing and damage potentials for large-scale combat.

In PvP, you can sustain and cap points, but also due to your mobility can help outnumber ("+1") fights to support teammates. Overall elementalist is a great all-around class for PvP.

################################

Again, find forum material and videos to observe gameplay, which can provide a better understanding of the classes in action.

Good luck, in whichever class you decide to pick. Cheers.

New to thief and GW2 Adivce required

in Thief

Posted by: Tyyphoon.5301

Tyyphoon.5301

Since you are new to GW2, I would suggest you try a more novice-friendly class such as warrior or engi. They are much more forgiving than thief profession. You may experience much frustration starting out as thief due to the high ceiling cast upon it by ANet. However, with that said, if you still prefer to pursue thief profession, there are many resources detailed on GW2 forums, GW2 wiki, Youtube, Twitch, etc.

Stealth mechanics are unique to weapon sets, utilities, and items. It is advisable you read through the GW2 wiki on stealth mechanics for basic information (as someone has already linked in a previous post).

Good luck and welcome to the art known as "thievery". You will experience much QQ from other players once you’ve gained adequate knowledge and thievery skills.

Coil Event Fail Toxicity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tyyphoon.5301

Gedekran (or should I say "Guild Spy") -- if I recall correctly, you were one of the individuals instigating the toxicity at Blix, so now that Blix is nerfed, you continue to harass farming players at Coil? Do you ever get tired of antagonzing players? Seriously, whatever happened to your concern to "finish" Blix? Are you content with Blix now? I suppose not, since you have moved on to instigating players at Coil (as per this thread).

Thanks for the effort of taking biased screenshots.

By instigating the toxicity you mean by trying to complete an event? By harassment you mean by not engaging the farmers in conversation while actually completing said event? Is there some new requirement of completing events that state you must explain why you wish to complete an event and if it’s not satisfactory, then the toxic abuse and harassment by those wishing to farm the failed event is justified?

I’ll say the same thing as I said about Blix. A player should not feel ostracized for wanting to complete an event.

No. I recall farmers leaving peacefully a specific Blix instance which you tried to "troll", to a new Blix instance, which you would soon follow to again harass them in the new one. I dont believe grieving players is allowed (as per TOS). If you dont like something, its best to avoid it. However, in a troll’s case, they like to put fuel into the fire.

Thanks, I will respond no more to your messages. =)

Are you willing to gamble on it with your account? Because I’m not sure premeditated disruption, intentionally premeditated disruption mind you, is within the ToS.

If that was the case, we would have seen "known" grievous players banned already from game. Unfortunately, that is not the case, so it must be allowed -- logically speaking. And I will not divulge how I will take action. I am awaiting to see if ANet addresses this concern of myself and many fellow players who have experienced similiar foul behavior(s) in PvE/WvW worlds both. What was going to be an obvious outcome, the players known to me as griever’ish, are no longer in Cursed Shore. Every day this week, from afternoon to evening, they had one of their accounts sitting at Shelters Gates to prevent the Blix event. Now, they are elsewhere in game. So much for how they cared about doing Blix or any Cursed Shore event.

OMG!! What?? I was hoping they would take advantage of the fact that they have Cursed Shore all to themselves so they can FINALLY complete their beloved Blix instance. Awww, and they cried oh so much, I literally felt pity upon them that they could not finish their little instance because big, bad farmers were getting in their way!

Hey, you got what you wanted. A nice, clean, desolate map of Orr * clears throat* to complete your daily event. Dont blame other players who made that map active again for your querulous behavior. And best of all, now you and all your 12’s can do ALL the Blix “completions” you want! (* GASPS* so lucky!!!) As for the farmers, they will find greener pastures to farm. Lol.

Cheers

You’re really no better than the people you’re calling names. Honestly the whining does you no good.

Hm. Let’s see here. Where do I start? Ah! Yes.

The ones crying about the Blix “exploit” are the arrogant rich players who want to keep their dominance. They have exploited enough previous events to last them for years, but god forbid the little man tries to come close.

Just pathetic nerds thinking purposely finishing the event, leaving over a hundred players waiting for another one, is somehow related to “justice”.

You’re completely wrong.

I`m not even close to be a rich player, but I hate this atmosphere farming brings about, and not just this stupid event, all of Orr. I can’t tell you how many time some mindless idiot has dragged a mob of 5+ enemies on me while gathering their precious resources.

Maybe an MMO is not for you. You seem to pretty much hate what this game was made for.

Sounds like you are the one whining. “Honestly the whining does you no good.” (Hm..where did I hear that again?)

And I agree with the guy that responded to you, you obviously have not played an MMO. Having mobs aggro’ed on you in a PvE world is far milder crime than someone constantly ressing you in open-world PK so their friends can PK you, indefinitely (and without consequences).

BTW, name-calling….is not nice. LOL @ “mindless idiots”.

To those who claim that Cursed Shore is dead, and the Blix farm made Cursed Shore alive again, let me assure you that is far from the truth. On the contrary, you guys killed Cursed Shore.

Cheers

Hey, you got what you wanted. A nice, clean, desolate map of Orr * clears throat* to complete your daily event. Dont blame other players who made that map active again for your querulous behavior. And best of all, now you and all your 12’s can do ALL the Blix “completions” you want! (* GASPS* so lucky!!!) As for the farmers, they will find greener pastures to farm. Lol.

Cheers

If arena-net added easy farming options I wouldnt care.

I just personally inherently disagree with abusing event mechanics to get easy loot.

idgaf how fast you get money. I just expect events to work as intended, and for the players to respect their intended function.

Events have 4 states. in Waiting, in Action, in Success or in Failure. Two of those states have a reward attached to them. All states are part of the system and they are all as legitimate as the other.
Telling people they are exploiting because they think it’s more profitable to fail an event that to succeed it is the same as saying you’re exploiting because you think succeeding an event is more profitable than letting it fail.

Failed State IS an intended function. When it is not, it vanish. Like all the events in Dry Top for example.

And as many people, including Chris and myself have pointed out, trying to succeed at an event is doing the event the way it is supposed to be done, purposely trying to fail (and raging at anyone actually trying to do it) is not. So no, the two situations you mentioned aren’t really in the same ballpark.

Wait what? Tell that to A-net when players actually tried to do champ trains in QD/FGS/etc. The game was played AS intended — yet still got nerfed. Its not the game mechanics that causes nerfs. Its the player-grievance attitude that some individuals feel self-entitled to revel in that causes it. These players BREED toxicity. And toxicity is WHY this event got nerfed, as well. Like many have said before, there were tumbleweeds rolling in Orr before this map became popularized again, post-Megaserver.

There are really two sides to this, and when it comes down to it, you are both right – and you are both wrong. Both sides have the right to complete the task that they set out to do (completing or not completing).

Challenging another player’s play style is the issue here, and since this revolved around an event that was designed to be completed, it is being changed so that the original design of the event can be carried out.

When something in the game (such as this event) changes negatively as this has, we need to step in and remediate the toxicity. The byproduct of this change happens to be that a champion farm is being slowed, but since that was the originating factor for the toxicity, it’s unavoidable.

I encourage players to remember that not everyone has the same goals when they play, and sometimes they will clash.

This is a really good answer. The best possible answer, in fact. The fact that you acknowledge not completing an event can be a legitimate goal blows my mind. Props to you, dear sir.

This ^. Thanks for your prompt response, Chris.

lol at all these mad exploiters who cant get easy rewards anymore.

Exploit? Lol, apparently you have not stepped into WvW. You’ll see far worse “exploits” utilized.

More like all these complainers are the same people that wanted to nerf champ trains for personal gains (yet they speak of rotating champs in orr — hypocritical much?).

Not worth reasoning with trolls. Their goals are to disrupt the community for attention.

If players doing it wrong and exploiting the game is hampered or they are made unhappy by the actions of players playing the game correctly and not exploiting the game, then changing the game for the enjoyment of the players doing it wrong is not the way to correct this.

Not quite. Changing the game so that those players can enjoy the game without “doing it wrong” (so, derailing events) would be the way to correct this. And the toxicity could have been avoided if there were lot more “farming places” all over the game world. It is getting worse and worse because number of spots left for farmers is smaller and smaller every “fix”. And the griefers (because, you know, a number of those “correctly playing” people are griefers) keeps following farmers from spot to spot.

What is needed is places where those farmers can grind in peace, without disrupting the rest of community, but also without being disrupted themselves. Lot of those places, because we really don’t want all that crowd congregating in one spot – that’s what triggers the mob mentality and toxic behavious.

I love this idea! Let the “trolls” and “white knights” congregate into their areas so they can “complete” their desired events. Give the farmers their own areas so they can farm in peace. Then the “trolls” and “white knights” can be toxic to each other and the farmers can work in harmony towards their desired goals.

Cheers!

A player should not feel ostracized for wanting to complete an event.

There is 3000 different events they could complete, and if they wanted to complete this one, they could easily complete it on another map by taking 2 seconds. This is not about wanting to complete a useless event. Heck getting into one of those megaserver takes forever, you don’t just end up in them, you join them.

Agreed. It takes active effort to get into such maps. Even players that want to participate in a quality farm have to painstakingly attempt to get into such an instance. This is a mere example of player-grievous behavior trolls indulge in that I stated previously in my comments.

Lol…this isnt even about the ignorant newcomers that need to get their achievements done. There are legit “trolls” in this game…hell even “troll guilds” (guilds full of trolls) who will go out of their way — literally looking for opportunities — to make an enjoyable time miserable for the majority of players. Its absurd to support this kind of grieving behavior, yet ANet seems to lack sensibility. I really enjoy this game but everyday its making me look the other way for newer games on the horizons.

These “trolls” and “white knights”…I have no idea what kind of high they get out of annoying other players, but alas, que sera, sera.

Its interesting how much time and effort the so-called “trolls” spend in trying to deter others’ gameplay. They will even try to do so via the forums. What I find most interesting is that despite the numerous “instances” of any map, if one wanted to complete this event for their personal record, they could do so by just switching to another instance of the map instead of complaining. The community as a whole has become toxic, not the farmers…and you can thank the trolls who indulge in schadenfreude for this.

This has been the case for many, many nerfs/changes. If you are a troll, you will not be invited to my squads.

Also, as already pointed out, if it was not for “farmers” in-game, the prices for individual mats/items on the trading post would be excruciatingly higher. So next time you intend to deter a farming event, think first about how much you will have to pay out of pocket if prices skyrocket due to meager supply, before making a fool out of yourself — essentially, you are “biting the hand that feeds you”.

Thanks.
