Asurans are technologically minded, while Norns care more about beer, battle, and broads. Makes sense to me that the Asura would provide us with fancy new toys!

When is chest loot determined?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valinerya.6713

Doesn’t matter. It is not affected by magic find.

That would be my answer as well.

I think it does matter. Let me try to explain.
At this moment it is just a suspicion and me and some friends try to watching it … so the suspicion: i for myself recognised, if i loot a chest very early maybe as the first one, it seems i got a better loot. The best/worst examples are the Dragon-chests. Usually after fighting a dragon i rezz other players first, that they are able to loot the chest too. In that way i -usually- do not get good loot (white and blue, seldom green and never yellow or orange). Once it happened that i was standing just on the place where the chest was sown up. I looted immediately and i recived two rares.
Since this time, we are looking into this: we let loot other players and loot the chest very late. None of us reciveing good loot in this way, then one of us try to loot very early and the others more late. The one who looted the chest early seems to got a better loot. Till yet one rare at least. Even in the fractals, if i loot as the last person, i just got junk (white or blue), when i looted as the first person i recived much better loot, even exotics.

As i said it is just a suspicion (so please take it as such one!) and not much more at the moment, but my feelings are not so good on this.

ps: chest and magic find: yes it was said/written so: no affect. but it also has been told to us, that chapions should drop now much better loot and the droprate is increased etc. etc. Hm ….

I can confirm that this is not the case for everyone. In one Fractal run, I was the last person to loot the chest, well after the rest of my party did. I looted an exotic, while one person got a rare, and the other three didn’t get better than greens.

I think it’s totally random, and has nothing to do with when you loot/your MF percentage/whether Jupiter is in alignment with Capricorn/etc.

ETA: My MF was about 6% when I looted the exotic.

Thank you SO much for scheduling Wintersday to run like this! I work as a nurse, and have crazy hours, expecially with all the Christmas time shifts I have to do. Having the ability to enjoy the content on EITHER the day of the Toymaker Tixx’s visit to one of the cities OR experience the content over a two week period is fantastic.

I personally appreciate the thought put into the scheduling for this holiday event, and thank you all very much for listening to your players’ feedback!

Just kind of sad :(

I’ve been checking out my collection of games on Steam. Some good stuff in there.

I suppose it’s stupid for me to become emotionally attached to a game. But this latest jumping bug… combined with all of the other issues in the game, such as poor world loot drops, the latest Mesmer break, the devaluation of the small amount of gold I do have, Bandits knocking you down repeatedly till your dead… it’s depressing logging on.

I play games to smile, have fun, unwind. I do not play to become stressed, unhappy, or frustrated to the point where I want to scream.

Just kind of sad :(

This is not another “Fractal-bashing” thread. Just wanted to say that up front.

Since the introduction of Fractals, I have been less eager to log in and play my level 80 Engineer. I wasn’t quite sure what the issue was, but I am having a lot more fun these days leveling my Ranger to 80 instead of playing “end-game” content with my Engi.

That’s fine. Find your fun where you can, right?

Well, a major part of my fun comes from jumping puzzles. I absolutely love doing them. I never did succeed at The Mad King’s Tower, but I am working my way through the JP achievement list, and am getting a great deal of pleasure from mastering each puzzle.

With today’s jumping bug, I am finding myself looking at the GW2 icon on my desktop, and saying “why bother?” It’s not that I don’t think the jumping bug will never be fixed – I believe it will be – but just knowing that the main source of my entertainment is gone for the present time makes me feel sad.

I guess what I am trying to say in a long-winded way is this: Up until now, I have been willing to overlook the plethora of bugs that plague this game. I have still been able to have a good time in game. Today, however, that fun is just not there. With a core mechanic being broken… I can’t seem to shake away this unhappiness and log in to play. So, so many things in this game are broken, and I have been able to work around them up until this point. The current in game issues need to be fixed before any new content is introduced. It’s depressing to think about the layers of bugs piling up on top of one another as I type. At the rate new issues are being introduced, and at the rate old issues are being fixed… GW2 is going to be entirely unplayable within one year.

TL:DR – A person can only take so many bugs. When a player’s alternate form of “fun” is bugged out… it’s time for the developpers to take a step back and fix what’s broken before bringing anything new into the game world.

Why do most of you prefer to play alone?

I am a nurse in the Real World. I spend all of my work life trying to care for and satisfy total strangers. The last thing I want to do in my free time is more of the same.

I play GW2 because I love the game. I love crafting, questing, exploring, and on occasion, running a dungeon with my guild mates, whom I have played with for years. If there is a dynamic event going on, I can choose whether or not I participate.

Most of the time though, I prefer to do my own thing on my own schedule. I have to live by other people’s schedules every moment of my work day. I don’t like to do the same thing in a game.

Dear Toymaker Tixx;

Even though I have indulged in the odd keg brawl, and possibly knocked an Asuran or five off their wee little feet during these inebriated activities, I have been as good as a Norn can be this past year. I know I occasionally (or frequently, your view may differ) use rabbits for target practice as I hone my Engineering skills, but I swear that I was just trying to become better with a pistol in either hand. Not an easy task!

This Wintersday, I would very much appreciate the following:

1. A beautiful flowing dress I can wear about town, that will make the men swoon.

2. A Quip pistol, which I promise I will not shoot rabbits with (much).

3. Some tasty Christmas candies that turn me into fun holiday creatures, such as a snowman, a reindeer, or a giant snowflake.

4. Lots of chances to participate in ALL of the Wintersday activities, as I have to work for 12 full days over the Holiday season. The amount of time I have to wander Tyria will be quite limited due to this.

Many thanks, and again… sorry about the rabbits. They are lovely roasted in a fine ale though!

“Hi Sin,

So yep you are right this is the question i have been likely dodging the most? The reason being is that it requires investigation. Vet and Champs should give good loot and there are a number of reports on perceived decrease in the frequency of drops. I will be discussing this in depth with the Production and Design team tomorrow and we will hopefully have more info soon.

Thank you for posting this. It is reassuring to know that the concerns have been noticed and acknowledged by an official. No, there is no fix at present, but just knowing that Anet is aware is a step in the right direction.

Still wishing there was some sort of official reply regarding world loot drops. I believe the question has been asked already, but nothing has been said at all. Is it a bug? As intended? Player perception only? Accidental nerf?

I feel the answers Chris has given regarding Ascended items and vertical progression have been more than answered. I hope the AMA can move on to some other issues.

RNG... getting very old...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

I’ve been trying to pin down what exactly it is about GW2 that has really set my teeth on edge lately. I think it comes down to the RNG factor.

Playing is not rewarding when all I can do is vainly hope for SOME sort of decent drop… or any drop at all. I am one of the weird people who really enjoys cranking up some tunes while I run about the landscape, killing anything I can see, and collecting a nice bit of cash along the way.

The RNG in GW2 makes that nearly impossible. Not only am I looking at level 80 zones so densely packed with CC-type mobs I can barely take two steps without stepping in a respawn, I am also at the mercy of the loot gods. Will these 5 creatures drop anything worth getting excited over? More often than not, 4 drop nothing, while the 5th drops a grey porous bone.

I’d gladly drag my sorry backside through Orr if there was a good reason to. If there would be a tangible benefit to my character, I would traipse happily through hordes of Risen that chain-stun me long enough to make a cup of tea. Unfortunately, thanks to the RNG, the time I put into the game is not adequately recompensed in any way.

Relying on luck, and luck alone, to make any sort of meaningful progression is boring, tedious, and not at all fun.

Vertical vs. Horizontal, a compromise?

<snip> Really interesting ideas <snip>

Now THESE are some terrific ideas I could get behind. Makes weapons and armor far more interesting, and peopl ecan hunt for the perfect blend of traits that suits their particular build.

This is impressive! I would have fun with this type of gear in game.

Ignoring Ascended Tier

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

Yep, ignoring it altogether as well. I will just run some Fractals with my guild mates for fun, and if I get Ascended… well fine. If I don’t… well, that’s totally fine too.

I am just really looking forward to experiencing the FotM with my friends. The gear doesn’t interest me in the least. Playing with my friends is MUCH better than any gear out there

PS. Yes, my guild is not the fastest moving guild in the world, so we really haven’t done much in FotM. There’s no race though, we will eventually get around to it

Respawn Rate - Insanely high

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

I can understand the respawn rates being as high as they are when the game first launched. A massive influx of players, all trying for the same mobs at once… you needed a high respawn rate to ensure no one was standing around for too long, just waiting for another critter to kill.

Today, though, there is not the same volume of players actively playing in the landscape. As a result, I am finding myself getting overwhelmed by unbelievably high respawn rates in somewhere as simple as Kessex Hills. Kill four guys, and by the time the fourth is dead, #1 is already beating on me, and #2 has just risen from the grave to join in.

Perhaps a retuning of the respawn rates is in order, now that the initial rush is over.

Guilds Changing Servers

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

Yep, my guild and I jumped to another server this weekend to join up with some old gaming friends, and we lost all of our influence and upgrades. We’re back to square one.

Fortunately, we are a casual bunch, so the influence points will eventually add up again. I was surprised, to say the least, but I’m not heartbroken. It’s just a game, after all, and the chance to group up with some good gaming buddies is worth the sacrifice in guild influence – at least to me and my guild.

Does Tier 3 culture armour seems right to you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

Honestly, I found my Norn Tier 3 armour to be unappealing, and went instead for the Tier 2 set. Much prettier, and suits her better. A few Fine Transmutation stones later (which I got for free from Black Lion Chests unlocked with story keys) and voila! Nice looking gear.

As for the cost of Tier 3… yeah, it’s steep. Really steep. Not worth it, considering how simple it is. Of course, if it’s your thing, and you REALLY like the look of it, go for it.

I too wish that I could equip some other race’s armour. Perhaps, to keep the feel of the “cultural” idea, a player would be required to complete a cultural quest chain that introduces them to the lore and history of the race they want the armour from – thereby giving the player permission to buy cultural gear from the Asura if they are a Human, as an example.

Risk v reward / awful drop rates

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Valinerya.6713

Valinerya.6713

In my opinion the drop rates have gone much better. Went from completed 4 scales of Fractals and got 2 exotics from chests (account bound on acquire) and 1 exotic torch from veteran enemy. Also many of my party members received few exotics and while i was on TS i know atleast 3 guys got exotic item as drop. U guys might just have been unlucky lol. ( also received many rares. one time i got 3 rares from opening one chest)

I think this thread is referring to the new map area, Southsun, rather than the FotM dungeon.

In any case, the loot drops in Southsun are terrible. Killed I-don’t-know-how-many Veteran Karka, plus a good handful of Champions, and got NOTHING for loot. Not even a grey. Killed my quota of karka for the monthly, wound up with 7 shells from all 200.

7? Really? That’s awfully low.

As for gear… I got about 5 blues and 2 greens during my hours killing mobs. No yellows, certainly no exotics (hahaha!!! Makes me laugh even thinking I would be so lucky). If there was an increase in loot drops from the tougher mobs, it certainly isn’t showing for me.

I really hope they either fix the bugged NPCs soon, or extend the event. I don’t even care what the reward is, I just like the feeling of completing a chain. Plus, I am enjoying the story.

The Largos is bugged for me too. Been trying for almost 3 hours to get it to work tonight, relogging over and over… waiting in one place… nothing.

I was so looking forward to at least being able to participate in the quests tonight, even though Ihad to work during the one-time-only event this afternoon. This is very disappointing.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

This makes no sense. Seriously, it doesn’t.

Adding a gear grind to a game with NO SUB FEE. What’s the point? Whether I get my gear over the next 6 months, or whether I get it playing 24 hours a day the next week – Anet gets the same amount of money from me. Which is none, aside from what I buy in the gem store.

Where is the horizontal progress that should be paying the bills? Where’s the new gem store skins? Non-event minis? Weapon skins? New townclothes? New cosmetic slots? Housing? All stuff we would have to drop real money on for gems, and would do so gladly because LOOKING COOL was the real grind of the game?

And if we weren’t dropping real money – we’d be grinding gold in-game to buy gems, which has the EXACT same effect as adding a gear grind (making us spend more time in-game) but without the penalty of breaking the Manifesto and making their core subscribers feel betrayed.

This is illogical and crazy. Hardcore grinders are never going to be the target audience for this game because it has NO SUB FEE. Spending more time in-game without spending money does Anet no good. The people they NEED are the cosmetics-kittens who would be spending money like gangbusters for housing, townclothes and the like.

For a game with this business model, vertical progression makes absolutely no sense as a development direction.

Well stated, and a terrific post. I agree 100%.

It’s really not hardly as drastic as most of the people posting are making it out to be. It’s something new and i’d rather see them try new stuff than just stick to the same ole.

It’s not new though. It’s the same old gear grind hamster wheel. The same one a LOT of us were trying to avoid in our MMO gaming.

Valinerya.6713

It wasn’t but a week ago I was extolling the virtues of GW2 to my boyfriend… telling him how GW2 wasn’t like all those MMORPGs, that I could gear up in exotics by crafting, temples, dungeons, etc…. that there was no gear grind!

I could also set a long term goal for myself and get a LEgendary weapon in about 2 years of casual playing. I was good with a 2 year effort, I could wait quite happily and slowly build up my resources for that epic day.

Now.

Now, all that is going out the window. Now there is Ascended gear, making all of those promises made by Anet false statements of hope. The ONE thing I hate about MMORPGs is the constant grind for better and better gear. It’s why I left my last MMO, and why I came here. Now i find out the exact same hamster-wheel is being applied here, when it was explicitly stated that this would NOT happen.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I really wanted a place where I could have a shot to be on par with everyone else, and take on all sorts of content I would normally shy away from, due to the insane gear requirements I don’t have time to attain.

Looks like that place is gone.
