“No, my pet! NO!”
I hear that one a lot as I carelessly get my poor Lynx slaughtered in battle. Followed by, “See, my pet? I won’t let you die!” spoken in a comforting voice. Love my Sylvari Ranger
The most irritating sound is “For Great Justice!” I really cannot stand that one, for some reason.
That does seem a bit odd. Vitality is a useful stat, for sure. But I can’t think of a single reason someone would want to make it their primary focus. Oh well.
Might not be useful as a full set but could be useful for a mixed set.
Bingo! I know my Mesmer will enjoy a mixed set once she reaches 80.
run the dungeon for what? fun?
Absolutely for fun.
I ran it twice today, and the second time I ran I had no idea if the chests were even lootable since I had already done it earlier. I didn’t care if I got loot. I just enjoyed it so much, I wanted to do it again.
Fun is a GOOD thing. It is what a game should be based on.
Two people in the group were pugs too, so this wasn’t a perfectly coordinated group (something some of the bosses require, and which is a completely inane expectation on part of the developers).
I did both runs today with complete PUGs, and while it was no cakewalk, it is perfectly doable with a little communication. The final fight does need a bit of talking with your team mates, but groups should HAVE to talk to one another, especially if people are dying left and right. Dungeons are supposed to be a group effort, and Molten Facility is just difficult enough to remind players that saying more than “Hello” is required when in a dungeon.
ETA: They definitely DO need to make more fun bosses like this one
Well I didn’t say that, I said it doesn’t require a perfectly coordinated group. Some of the games dungeon bosses just can’t be done except by repeaters who have been carried through before, or people who have played together enough to reach a higher level of coordination than five random strangers possibly could. This boss, in my opinion, hits the perfect area, it’s challenging and requires everyone to play as a group, but doesn’t require a group to play like a trained Navy Seals team.
Gotcha, and sorry for misunderstanding. I totally agree with you on the difficulty level – it hits that “sweet spot” of being tough, but not TOO tough. It reminds me of dungeons I used to run in another game (not WoW) where I felt the devs had given the players an engaging, exciting encounter, regardless of how many times I had run it.
Molten Facility is one of those dungeons where I could see myself running it time after time again and not getting bored of it quickly.
I was initially disappointed that Flame and Frost ended wtih a dungeon… until I ran the dungeon.
It makes perfect sense now story-wise why a Dungeon had to be the ending for this story. Anything less would not have been able to feel as exciting and epic.
And Drift, if you need a hand, I am happy to help you and your mates through the dungeon. It really is a fun ride

Did you destroy the Faulty Gate after the Effigy? That leads to the next part.
The more I think about it, the less I see this as Anet flushing money away, and more as Anet making some rather shrewd business decisions.
Think about it… temporary content is presented to the player base, with special weapon skins and all… BUT the player can only access these things for a short amount of time. Knowing there is a time limit may help open people’s wallets, and they are more likely to spend a few dollars on Gems, for a chance to get a Fused weapon ticket. Or a special mini pet 3-pack, like SAB.
If that content were to be permanent, how many people would cough up the cash if they knew they had all the time in the world to grind out Gold for Gems?
Not saying I agree with this premise, but it makes financial sense for Anet.
Can I get a refund for $400 of wasted gems?

Sorry your UI got messed up :/
My boyfriend and I like to duo as much content as possible, so I can see where you’re coming from OP. But, if you are needing a hand completing the dungeon, hit us up in game, we can lend a hand!
I found the end bosses to be fair.
First time through my group took down the flying fire guy first, second time through we took down the berzerker first. The second boss plays VERY differently depending which of the two dies first!
I thoroughly enjoyed the fight. For the first time, I felt like I needed to actually THINK during a boss fight. I had to keep moving, watch the environment around me, watch my team mates, and watch the boss, all while watching my health and my pet’s health. Dungeons which require situational awareness are a big favourite of mine, as are bosses with interesting mechanics.
I haven’t gotten far enough in Dark Souls to make a comparison – I keep getting my ahem handed to me
First time through the dungeon today was a PUG of… get this… 4 Rangers and 1 Mesmer. I was one of the Rangers.
We wiped twice, stood back and looked at WHY we wiped, then adjusted our gameplay and carried on. Everyone was having fun, everyone succeeded, and we had a lot of laughs along the way.
It is NOT just warriors/guardians who are breezing through. Even the most “unfortunate” group can get through. If my PUG of 4 Rangers and 1 Mesmer can complete it, ANYone can.
You definitely need a group for this one Aly
Really enjoyed this dungeon
I said to my party mates “This is the best dungeon ArenaNet has made so far in this game.”
We were a PUG composed of 4 rangers and 1 mesmer… and we still succeeded! It was tricky, we wiped a couple times, but we were able to stand back and figure out WHY we wiped. When we had learned the mechanics, we succeeded, and had a great time doing so.
I can honestly say that was the most fun I have had in a dungeon since game release. The trash mobs did not have excessively high HP pools, but they had some mechanics that needed a little thinking to counter. Both major battles were exciting, and filled the party chat with “OMG” and “Ohhhh we are in for it now…” and lots of laughter!
Keep it up ArenaNet. Truly a terrific gaming experience.
No way man!
When I got my Legendary shortbow, I dyed my Ranger matching colours…including her now-brilliant-amethyst hair. My Engineer has gone through so many colour variations I’ve lost count. My Necromancer changes colour almost daily, depending on her mood.
I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of money on dyes just so I can have a couple hundred to pick from for each of my girls. I have 12 characters… it’s getting pricey. But, for me, that’s where a huge amount of my in-game enjoyment comes from.
Interesting points here pricer, and some I definitely can agree with.
I can remember playing one other MMO in particular (no, not WoW) where I knew that my party members were good players. I could tell from their choice of skills, and from the very obvious effects their skills had on the enemy. In turn, my party members could see that I was playing well, that I knew my class inside and out, based on the choices I made, the skills I chose to use at a particular time.
In GW2, I usually have no idea who is doing what. I have many characters: 12 in all, representing all professions, and I have a good knowledge of what each profession can do. Still, I have a very difficult time knowing which players are performing which skills. Nothing really stands out, and it all melds into one shiny particle-effect. It IS kind of boring.
Like the OP, I have no desire to be TheBestZOMGPlayer in the game. I just like to be able to identify who is doing what, who is performing amazingly, and who could use a pointer or two on a particular encounter. Likewise, I want other players to be able to point out what I could do to improve… but that is very difficult, when it is so difficult to see who is contributing what to the encounter.
Ranger.
No matter what anyone thinks about Rangers, I love mine to death. I made her a Legendary, got her the best gear, and I can take on pretty much anything in regular PvE without any trouble at all. I also bring her to dungeons and WvW, and with my build, I am surprisingly difficult to kill.
She is my favourite, and I have the most fun with her
I have all the classes, and duplicates of a few, but no one comes close to being as fun as my bowmistress!
Interesting thread.
38 year old female gamer here, and I’ve been gaming ever since my Dad brought home a Commodore VIC 20 (how I loved playing GORF!) I have never been hauled into a game because my partner wanted me to play with him – in fact, the exact opposite is true. I lured my boyfriend into GW2, and he loves it as much as I do, now that he’s given it a chance.
As a female gamer, I get a little defensive when people automatically assume I am male based on my skill in game: basically, if I am good at playing, I must be male. I can remember playing LOTRO for years, and people would be stunned that I was a woman when I main-healed on my Minstrel, or range-tanked on my Hunter.
“Wow, you’re a girl? But you’re so good!”
Yeah, that felt really nice to hear =P
I think perceptions are changing these days, but I think it is also safe to assume there are more males playing games than females still. I can see changes in the games I play today, making gaming more appealing to women in general. For example, “Bioshock: Infinite” has Elizabeth as a sidekick who can take care of herself in combat, as well as a deeply moving storyline.
I choose games to play based on whether I like the mechanics, graphics, setting, story, and music. I don’t choose a game because it is thought to be “female-friendly” – I choose what appeals to me. “Borderlands” and “Halo” are just as appealing to me as “Ni no Kuni” and “Little Big Planet.”
You folks all have some terrific ideas
Just hearing the things I still have available to do in game reminds me of the reasons I love the game in the first place. I’ve recently started on completing every puzzle achievement in the game, and have really been enjoying it!
I do like the suggestion to have more than one game on the go, however. I’ve been playing GW1 quite a bit these past couple of weeks, and have really been liking the challenge! It’s kind of funny… my partner and I are taking on the Nightfall campaign, and he said “I can’t get over how dangerous this place is! It’s nothing like GW2.” That is another thread altogether though
Thanks to all of you for your kind and helpful suggestions!
Thanks for your reply Vayne
I am a member of a guild, but sadly my guildmates rarely play anymore. Which is really too bad, since we had such a blast running dungeons together! Had a good time helping my mates get their dungeon tokens.
Perhaps I do need to find another guild to join, just to have active players to run about the PvE world with. Or take a break. Well… I guess I have already started on that break… I am about 15 hours into Bioshock: Infinite.
I remember playing LOTRO for 6 years before leaving to come here. I always felt like I had something I needed to do. For better or for worse, that sense of urgency just is not here in GW2. Not saying that’s a bad thing, it is what it is.
Hoping the April update to Living Story brings some terrific content! I was really liking Brahman’s story, and I look forward to seeing how it ends.
I will start by saying I really love this game. Definitely the best MMO I have played in a very long time. BUT… I am at a bit of a loss as to what to do with myself when I log in game these days.
I have 3 level 80 characters (out of 11 characters), have completed world exploration twice, have my Legendary on my Ranger, have most dungeon paths completed, and have a not-too-shameful ranking in WvW. My personal story has been completed twice, and I’ve dipped into Fractals many times. I’ve done my achievements for the Living Story, as well as replayed the missions just for fun. I am at 5 out of 8 level 400 crafting professions. Almost all JPs are done, including a few lovely skins I earned from the new SAB.
I suppose the only left thing to do is gather laurels for Ascended trinkets? I just am not sure what I can do in the game anymore that I haven’t already done.
I am open to ideas! I do love the GW2 universe, but am looking for reasons to play. At the moment, I’ve been puttering about on my PS3 for my gaming leisure time, and not popping into GW2 to even do my dailies.
Any thoughts?
Just a quick feedback on the new Living Story missions available now. I will try not to put in any spoilers!
Brahman – I instantly liked him. His story is compelling, and made me actually care about what was going to happen in the future. His personality is likeable, and I felt connected to his plight. I just did his mission for a second time, since I enjoyed it so much the first time around.
Rox – To me, she felt like a generic NPC. I couldn’t get involved with her side of the tale, and I didn’t feel like I related to her plight at all. She seemed bland in comparison to Brahman. I have not felt the need to revisit her mission, as I was rather bored the first time.
Overall, I am enjoying the Living Story. Looking back, I can see how the first two installments fit in to what is currently happening. Keep working at it ArenaNet, I think you have something here that could really become something special!
Forged my Dreamer last night.
Farmed exclusively for materials, and got a little help from guildmates for hard-to-find things like Powerful Blood.
More unicorns to be spewed across the landscape on Ehmry Bay!
It’s extremely fun to smack someone in the face till they die in WvW with My Little Ponies
ETA: I did not play the TP (no idea how) and I did not use real money. Took me about 5 months of dedicated, focused playing, with every resource going towards my legendary.
I am not sure why the 50 silver is required along with the badges… but when you take the total value of the materials required to craft one (eg. the Dreamer is worth 1500 gold in materials alone, including precursor… and yes I did calculate it) 50 silver is a drop in the bucket.
Seeing as I only got the Gift of Battle yesterday, I thought the 50 silver was always a requirement. Didn’t seem too extraordinary, it’s not overly difficult to earn a couple gold in WvW per night.
I tend to choose realistic names for my characters. My Sylvari are named using various Latin names for plants, or derivatives of the Latin names. For example, one of my girls is named Betula Pendulae, which is a variant on the Latin name for “little-leaf linden tree”.
I tend to have fun with my Ranger pet names, above anything else. For example:
Spider: Skitter
Black Jaguar: Sleek
Eagle: Nobility
White Owl: Wisdom
Shark: Chompy (really need a new one, ever since I discovered the pirate puzzle in LA)
Armored Fish: Gauntlet
Fern Hound: Canteloupe
And so on. Nothing really mind-blowing, I am just slightly whimsical with my pets
I have a terrific Asura name ready to roll… which I would absolutely use, if I didn’t find the Asurans to be so insufferably egotistical.
Female: #3 (5 times) #5 (1 time)
(edited by Valinerya.6713)
Yes I would.
I am in the midst of leveling a Sylvari Engineer, to take the place of my Level 80 Norn Engineer. Once I have the Norn’s crafts covered on my new Sylvari, I’m ditching the Norn. I will salvage the Norn’s exotics for ecto first though
As a Ranger, my AoE and survivability against 5 – 10 mobs is… well, pathetic, really. I can understand you not being thriled with the change if that’s your preferred play method though.
It’s reasonable. I feel I can run about without being mauled by Risen ever three steps. The new character models for the Risen are nice to see, too! Much more detailed, and larger in many cases.
Just a thanks to the creators for making Orr not only a much more reasonable place to run around in, but actually fun! I really like the temple changes… Grenth is a real challenge (got her to 10%, then lost… SO close!) and Melandru is plenty more fun to do, too.
I’m getting plenty of Heavy Mouldy Bags, and even occasional rares… usually one per night or so.
Instead of dreading finishing my map of Cursed Shore, I find myself enjoying it a great deal. Even more so now that more players are back in the area again!
So thank you, from one happy player

Re: 130123-002266
Thank you for fixing my problem! Much appreciated!
It will launch at some point before 23:59pm PST. Anet is based on the West Coast, so as long as they launch it before midnight PST, it’s still considered to be January 28.
It’s great that they give dates according to where they’re situated, it might even appear to make sense. However, a huge part of this game’s player base (half by rough estimation) is located in non US timezones.
Those players will see the 28th and they wont think, “oh, wait, ANet is West Coast so that means according to timezone differences…”. No, a player will see the 28th and obviously expect the content on that date, they’re 28th. When the update finally hits the 29th, the non US players will feel cheated.
Just pointing this out… PST does NOT just refer to the USA. It refers to Canada, as well. I am Canadian, and we use PST just like the USA does.

Ticket number: 130123-002266
My ticket was forwarded to another team the day I submitted it, but I never got any response. Thank you for looking into this!
I’m saving up for the awesomely cool staff “The Crossing” for my Necromancer. I am still saving things for my Dreamer bow (got the precursor in a lucky Mystic Forge creation) but seriously… The Crossing is one of the coolest weapons I have seen in a game.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:The_Crossing.jpg
I have the Halloween items for it, just need everything else :P It will take a while, but I am okay with that!
Here lies Nidriana Kiplyn, Ranger of Tyria.
She forgot to feed her pet spider, Skitter.
Skitter was the last to hear her screams as he had her for lunch.
Midnight Fire looks great with red/purple/pink contrasts.
Yes, I try and do it every day. It’s quick, simple, relaxing, and fun… plus it is helping me kit out my newest level 80 in exotic karma gear.
Actually, that’s one little feature I miss in GW2 that was in GW1… that little reminder that popped up on your chat screen every hour or so. I easily lose track of time while I am playing, and it’s good to step away from the game to stretch and do someting else now and then.
Hope your arm feels better soon!
Voting Shade #3 here. Can really see the details, and it’s a nice colour mix.
Got mine today from the MF. Tossed in 4 random exotic shortbows, got The Lover on the third attempt.
For real Nalora? Wow… here, I have loads of scratchy socks to make up for that…
<hands Nalora a few pairs of rock-hard could-kill-a-small-cat-with-these woolly socks>After trying it a few times…. I think I may be able to get this one. It’s definitely easier than MKCT (which I just could not do) but still challenging enough for me to require some seroius practice
I’m not big on the timed part, but we do kinda need some sense of challenge to it. I bet I will fail many more times before I get it… but at least with this one, I feel like I CAN get it.
I just have to say… I got such a laugh out of opening pressies that had Ugly Wool Socks, Hats, and Sweaters inside.
Reminds me of so many Christmases when my Granny would give me at least one of these things (usually socks, but once a truly hideous sweater.) She meant well, and waited for my delight… I faked it pretty well :P
Anyways, with Granny now gone, these itchy wooly items bring back a lot of fond memories.
So good job content team
Thanks for helping this player remember a happy time from my past
It is perfectly okay. It’s like going to retail store and heading to the checkout line, only to find a bunch of other customers ahead of you with larger carts. You can’t do anything but wait; because they got their first. It isn’t an injustice that you have to wait your turn, it’s just how it works.
Good analogy.
/pokes GW2 client
I think I am last in line, but eh… so be it. The patch will be downloaded at some point tonight.
Oh good grief… not everyone is going to be able to download the patch at the exact same speed.
I do call it whining. My download is stuck just like many other people’s is. I’m over it.
Yes, because failing games can afford to advertise during the Coming Attractions portion of the new “The Hobbit” film…
(/sarcasm)
Yes, not surprising.
Just saw the twitter update.
“If you’re getting a connection error, be patient. Everyone is attempting to download at the same time. ~RB2”
I like how they just revealed that only privileged people are able to download. What a disappointment.
Huh? What in that statement says “only privileged people are able to download”?
Honestly… the whining and complaining in this forum is getting ludicrous.
Patience. It’s a virtue.
I am quite interested in this. Just saw the insides of HotW and AC today with two different PUG groups… not a pretty picture, but we managed to survive. I miss having a team to run with for dungeons.
My engineer is 80, full exotics, Fractals level 2.
Feel free to PM me, thank you
