Whoa, that just feels like Tron.
How much gold did all that (+ dyes and all) cost?
I feel like all my Healing gear is useless. All those hours farmind Karma just look like a waste of time now. Yes, I new SE was glitched and it’d get fixed sometime, but I didn’t expect the “balanced” version to be so bad, and I still had a faint hope that they’d leave the glitched version as it was, since it wasn’t breaking anything and made a healing build more viable.
Now I switched to bomb build with Elixir Infused Bombs. Yes, the healing is even worse, but hey, at least I’m dealing damage. Also, this makes use of the upgrade they gave to Power Shoes. Moving 25% faster while in combat is way more usefull than I expected, even more so when you must dodge and move away from attacks while dropping bombs near enemies.
I’d say that of all the races in the game, the Asura are right there on the top of most explored races, and the ones that received the most attention. Their dialogues are just really amusing and the voice acting, as said, is very good. Besides all that, the animations are detailed and I can’t help it but feel that the developers made good use of their time creating them. Overall, the Asura race is very well designed, all clipping issues aside.
My favorites, besides the dumb corpse one, are:
“I knew it all along!” – When learning a new Skill
“I have created LIFE … of a sort.” – When summoning Minions (Necromancer)
Any class can be equally inteligent.
Just because it means you are an engineer it doesn’t mean you are automatically above the average.
Could you please post your build?
Also, congratz, those fights are awesome
I’m aware such a build would be far from top notch, but hey, my main in an engineer, so I don’t really care about not being that good provided I don’t get downed every second. Just some fun PvE build, that’s what I had in mind.
(sorry if I’m hijacking the thread, OP)
I too would like some help making a Conjure build, because that’s what interests me the most in Elementalists, and I know almost nothing about them to be able to actually make a viable build focusing on it.
In the thread linked above, I found this build, but nothing else besides it.
Like this, but less horrifying.
I shall never sleep in peace again.
I named one of my Asura “Vekk” because hell, I always use Vekhtor as my name and it that variation sounded really Asura. My surprise when I found an ingame monument to 3 of the greatest golemancers in history and saw one them was named Vekk was big.
My strategy when downed involves using #2 to bring the mob closer to me so that I die faster, as mentioned above. This way I can at least get a faster respawn.
Asura usually use their titles after their names.
From the wiki:
“An asura’s name usually consists of a short, sharp first name with one or two syllables. Feminine asura names typically end in -i or -a vowel sounds, and the masculine in a consonant sound. Any asura whose name does not follow these rules may risk ridicule during childhood. Both male and female Asuras typically have two of the same letter in a row somewhere in their name. Asura do not have a last name, instead opting to use job titles, a krewe name, or honorifics to differentiate themselves. Those who choose to take a last name of a style similar to humans are rare and are considered eccentrics, though their surname is often ignored by other asura.”
Hope it helps
I really like the thought of mowing enemies down with the FT.
That’s your answer right there.
Most people don’t want to adapt to new things and others just believe everything they read. When someone tries to use Pistols and Elixirs or something that isn’t a Grenade build and they see their DPS isn’t as great as it was before, they just dish the whole idea. And then comes the cattle and start complaining that omg build X is so bad and Y is so good and you should only run build Y.
Damage isn’t everything. Utility and support are also very important in the game, as they are in mostly all other mmo’s. What I notice is that since GW2 doesn’t have fixed roles for classes, people seem to forget the value of Support builds.
I myself have a Pistol/Elixir build focused on Elixir Gun for supporting groups in dungeons with the Kit Refinement trait that allows me to drop 2 healing fields at the same time. It’s fun, durable and I’ve already saved many party members and made fights much more smoothly with the build. The Engineer is a very versatile class and it can things very well provided the player dedicates himself to use all the resources avaible at the correct time.
If you want to focus on DPS, I must say that the most viable option is indeed Grenades. However, if you don’t like them and loves the Flamethrower, then by all means go for it. The game is made in a way that pretty much every build is viable (provided you don’t try anything stupid on purpose). If you really like the FT, it means you’ll most likely play it for longer, meaning that you’ll learn how to use it effectively, together with all the options FT builds provide. This means you’ll be more efficient this way than you’d be if you used a ‘nades build. And, if I may say so, more efficient then most of the forum users that just come here to cry over how they can’t play other builds and how grenades are oh so much better.
My guardion. T3 cultural, what else
If I ever make a Guardian, I dream he will look like this.
Happens to me as well, but hey, if floating shields make sense for any race, that race is the Asura. I like to think that it’s some secret magitech they use so that they don’t have to hold the heavy shields but still use ones that are actually efficient at blocking.
That video was incredible.
I watched it all and didn’t even notice.
You sir, are a legendary engineer.
I picked Statics for my necro because of the line: “but we excel at creating new designs, using old materials in innovative ways, and expanding the purview of known magics for practical applications.”
In other words: Creating new minions using dead bodies in innovative ways and using dark/unknown magic for practical applications such as defeating my opponents.
I think it fit rather well.
By Captain America you mean using Throwing Shield a lot?
If that’s so, may I direct you to one of the funniest threads in this area of the forums, the TANCAT build. While written in an entertaining way, the build is also very very solid (it’s a tanky build, see what I did there?) according to the positive feedback it received. It also uses Throwing Shield a lot, together with Gear Shield and pretty much everything shield related. I’d say that if you want to focus on using shield (as I’m implying), this is your best bet.
I caught myself thinking about this the other day. Might have been in WvW.
I don’t think it should be limited to engineers though. They should make a back item that gave that abillity in some way (idea came from a cloak in WoW that has a builti-n parachute).
Come on, imagine an army of parachuters coming down from the sky in WvW? That’d be epic!
One of the most obvious reasons a war could start is due to Asura comments. Asura are almost always insulting the intelligence of others.
Insults are not a reason for a full scale war.
In fact, they are often the reasons for wars, though it mostly seems to England starting them because for that. Asura are not the smartest race. They don’t have much common sense, they meddle in things they think they understand and many other reasons besides. Even if someone’s ugly, the social convention is not to point it out. Doing so constantly would get on anyone’s nerves sooner or later. If I repeatedly told an Asura it inventions sucked, when they did, they Asura would not like that. I would probably end up getting punched sooner or later too. What Asura lack is politeness. While other races are smart enough not to point out things like that, Asura are not. That doesn’t seem very smart to me. And an Asura/Charr war would end up stale-mate, anyone who says different is probably an idiot, or very arrogant.
I repeat, wars aren’t started by insults from one population to another.
A full-scale war requires commitment from the governement, from the people, means huge life losses and full economical focus geared towards the war effort. The tow it brings on life and the economy is way too high for wars to be start for such a frivolous reason.
It can happen for isolated incidents, maybe regional conflicts, but not for a full-scale war. If the region in which said conflict takes place is essential to both country’s economies and strategy, then it might evolve into a diplomatic dispute, but war won’t happen unless both countries/governements have another reason to do so. As I said, wars are too heavy a burden for the people involved for starting so easilly for mere words.
This fact is even less likely to take place in Tyria under its current situation. Both the Charr and the Aura are facing the dragon menance and have their own issues within their borders (ash legion and scalonian ghosts and the inquest) to focus on acquiring yet another enemy, and, even moreso, one that is currently an ally in the fighting against perhaps the greatest menance to the world (the dragons).
So no, a war wouldn’t not start between the Aura and the Charr based solely on Aura (or anyone’s) comments, no matter how snarky they were.
They give me a feeling that the game isn’t so serious. I like playing games for fun and relaxing, not being competitive and looking scary/hardcore. With the Asura, I can feel like everything I’m doing is wacky and somewhat cartoonish, and that’s awesome. The fact that I can kill dragons and take over keeps while looking that way is even better.
I really liked the Sylvari concept, and I am indeed leveling one right now, but I can’t help it but feel like I’d be having more fun if he were an Asura. Being a murdeous little genius is just that great.
I tried to see the build but I got a prybar in the face.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to switch characters.
Might be just a really temporary thing, we should wait some minutes and try again.
She looks remarkably less cute without her hat.
Oh wow, I might try it out with goggles then!
I sold my goggles at level 2 by accident, didn’t notice it and logged out.
Now they are gone forever.
Just call him “salad” and be done with it.
Rabbit > Salad
For the Asura, all that it would take to domintae the world would be a leader with enough credibility to assign different krewes to different areas. Since the Asura don’t work well together and mostly focus on their lab researches, all that it’d take would be the command of said lider to say: “OK, if your krewe wants to go ahead with your research, you’ll have to extract resources from ______.”
With this, every krewe would be “given” a particular area of the world to take over, and the other races would most likely not stand a chance against Asuras when they are in small groups and fuelled by their scientific ambitions. Hundreds of thousands of humans can defeat the hundreds of thousands of Asuras because they can’t cooperate, but 5 humans can’t beat 5 asuras when they belong to the same krewe and have similar interests.
All that said, the Asura Gates and golems would make it easy for each krewe to dominate the particular area it was assigned. Much easier transport for golem reinforcements, should the need arrive, would be vital. If the lider mentioned above managed to focus a group of some krewes to the mass development og golems for a combined racial war effort, I don’t think that even the Charr would be able to defeat them. Even with all their war prowess, they would lose living soldiers, while the Asura would merely lose resources from the golems destroyed, resources that would be replenished with every conquest.
ALL HAIL THE ASURA WAR MACHINE
Thanks, I think I’ll take ten out of tools then. Would removing static discharge be a horrible idea? I’ve heard some high praises of it.
Static Discharge brings a lot of damage if used correctly. I’d keep it. If you aren’t liking it, keep in mind you can change yor traits at any time, and even resseting everything isn’t expensive at all.
Why do people use any other skill calculators besides http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/ the rest are just garbage, or the links don’t work!
I myself love Guildhead since I always used Wowhead. It never gave me any troubles.
Would a 0/20/20/0/30 build work, using heal turret, tool kit, rocket boots, and utility goggles, and hair trigger, precise sights, static discharge, speedy gadgets, power wrench, metal plating, and reinforced shields as my traits? I moved 10 out of firearms to get reinforced shield, is that a bad call/is ere something better to do?
If you are running pistols, I myself consider Coated Bullets to be mandatory.
I was using a pistol build around level 60 and when I got that trait killing mobs became so much easier I was astonished. When your shots pierce an unlimited amount of opponents, destroying small, packed groups of enemies is so quick it’s not even fair.
So yeah, if you are running pistols, I’d say 30 in Precision is a must.
Why Metal Plating if you have 0 Turrents in your skils?
Sure, Supply Crate gives you turrents, but using a trait slot just for that?
If you want to use turrents, I’d go 20 in Inventions and 20 in Tools. This way you can get Reinforced Shield and use Turrents instead of Gadgets, so you won’t be missing the Speedy Gadgets trait that’ll go.
EDIT: Ok, there’s Healing Turrent that I missed. Anyway, I don’t like focusing on 2 cooldown reduction skil types, since you can’t have the most out of them. It just feels somewhat wasted. So either try to focus on Turrents or on Gadgets. That’d be my advice anyway.

How about kits change skins automatically based on what skin the weapon equipped has?
Would be ideal, yes, but very hard to program, I think.
Would also require many different versions of kits to be created, which would make this change mor eunlikely in the near future, since it’s just an esthetical thing. With so many bugged traits and skills in all classes, changing the appearance of something isn’t considered a top priority.
(And yes, before anyone quotes me and says some nonsense like “just because there are bigger problems you think this one shouldn’t be addressed?” or something, I do think kits need new skins. I’m just poiting out that due to the nature of the complaint, ANet is less likely to address it before it does so with broken skills/traits and bugs overall, and even more so if the chosen solution requires a lot of effort to pull out.)
I really, really love the Elixir Gun. So much so that even with Juggernaut avaible, I prefer to use it. The amounts of survivability it offers are incredible, and since you have a 0/30/0/30/10 build, you can use Kit Refinement from Tools to get 2 healing fields at the same time, which is very neat.
However, if you use the Flamethrower, go for Juggernaut (nobrainer) and HGH in the Alchemist tree, so that you can use your elixirs + Toolbelt Elixirs to get some really solid Might stacks.
I leveled all the way with bomb.
Kitting with Bombs is so easy, and you do really good damage. I was using Grenade too, but click each time you attack get annoying and your fingers hurts.
There’s one tool in the Option menu called “Fast AOE Targetting” or something like that. Activating it makes it so that every AoE spell you cast is automatically cast where your mouse is pointing. So you just have to hit the attack button and the grenades go to where your cursor is. It takes a few shots to get used to it, but after you do it makes a huge difference.
My main problem with using Bombs for leveling was ranged opponents. I’d usually be too hurt when I got close to them, even using something like Slick Shoes. When it was just one ranged enemy it was ok to handle, but 2+ were a pain if they weren’t close enough to each other to hit them both with a single bomb.
And yeah, I’m not even interested in progressing toward legendary weapons at the moment because, 1 i’m an asura so noone would see them if i’m not actually wailing with them in combat and 2 i’m an engineer so i wont be getting any benefit from them in combat.
Exactly my situation as well.
While it’s a relief that it’s not necessary that I pursue legendary weapons, it’s sad to know that I’ll never look as epic as the other classes thanks to their effects.
I too had this issue while using the first Asura Cultural Armor set. However, I found that it looked kinda cool and thought it was just an intentional thing. After using the kits for so long, having them change their appearance was nice (even if it was just being sideways).
Currently I’m having another kit issue, and this one is indeed annoying. Sometimes when I equikittent, the kit’s backpack doesn’t appear in my character, which is troublesome because sometimes in the heat of battle it confuses me for a split sceond, which is enough to be a dangerous thing.
In my initial soloing experience, I focused on rifle, then around lvl 20 I went for a pistol/elixir gun build. The survivability was golden and I pretty much always felt like I had an escape plan, even focusing my equips on Power/Precision.
Much later on (I kept this build until level 60) I went for a grenade build thanks to the grenadier trait, and kept it until level 80. Now that I’m focusing on raiding and farming DEs, I went back to my beloved Elixir Gun and P/P. I can just spread conditions all around and lay down 2 healing fields that remove conditions from allies while getting the hell out of any dangerous situation with EG #4, not to mention all the elixirs and the boons lasting +30%. My current build is 0/30/0/30/10.
I would buy that.
The range of #5 got doubled in the last patch (5 days ago) so that’s fine, I think.
From what I’ve heard, the pull is now enough to take people down from their keep’s walls in WvW so the toolkit at least now has a somewhat decent use.
Well, that settles it then.
I was expecting to receive the Regeneration boon from tha trait, but now that you said it’s not the boon, just regeneration, it makes much more sense.
Thank you all once again for the helpfull responses. I believe I’ll stick with my build then, since 150 heal per tick isn’t worth losing all my Firearms traits and/or Alchemy ones!
I don’t see any problem with that.
Humans (in real life) aren’t perfectly symmetrical either.
If anything, this gives more realism to the race.
I’d pick Mortar.
It’s very solid for defense in WvWvW, since you can build it on one of your keep’s walls and just blast a lot of people down bellow. It has decent area damage and you remain untouched. In PvE, you can use it for big events, like killing dragons. If you manage to find a wall for you to get behind, it’s even better. Rock out on that DPS while you are safe and far, far away.
Yeah, I know there are better options for healing. I was using a condition damage build with P/P and the elixir gun, but I felt it was lacking in damage, so I switched to a Power/Precision bomb build. I was more interested in knowing if the healing bombs were worth the heavy speccing in Inventions or not, so that I can get some health back while also dealing decent damage.
As for Backpack Regenerator, I tried that, but it didn’t seem to work. I just didn’t get regeneration at all when I used it with any kits. Maybe it’s a bug.
@Emapudapus: Thank you very much for the help. This is more or less what I was trying to discover, how much the healing was. Since I don’t have the intention of speccing in Healing gear, I suppose it’d be a really small amount of healing, right? So I suppose it’s not worth the investiment, since I’d lose all that precision.
Hello all.
I have just swapped to a bomb build that is easily exchangeable with grenades. My idea is to use bombs in PvE while I circle around the mobs, and then switch to grenades when I decide to mess a little in WvWvW. My current build is 30/20/0/20/0, since I really like using elixirs and the Vitallity bonus is very solid, together with Cleaning Formula 409.
Anyway, my question is about the trait number XI in Inventions, Elixir-Infused Bombs. It says that bomb explosions heal allies. I have tried to test it while in the dummies in PvP, but it’s hard to do so when you don’t really receive damage. What I really want to know is if anyone has had any success with that trait, and if it’s worth it to go that deep in Inventions for obtaining it.
Thanks in advance.
Here guys, this website might be usefull. It sure gave me a good idea of what I intend to go after when I decide to focus on my appearance: http://www.gw2armor.com/
(just pick your race and medium armor)
