Well, one thing you can definitely try is to bait out our mitigation skills, only to hit us with something stronger. I’ve seen so many people try to burst a guardian down from the get go. Take your time.

If the guardian is a defensive build, I’d just walk away and find something else to stab. If he’s an offensive build, do the above.

For this type of build, I’d go with a mix of Knights and Valkyrie for the power and survivability, since retaliation requires you to be hit for it to work.

3 words sum up how I feel about the power trait line. I hate Zeal. I find that the guardian benefits much more from Radiance/Valor/Honor.

For the hammer, you can add points into virtues to increase boon/retaliation duration, since mighty blow applies AOE retaliation when used with a light combo field.

For the record, I recommend looking at traits as a way to enhance your desired playstyle, instead of by what weapon you use. Try not to feel like you have to spec into +% weapon damage because it’s the weapon you use the most. there are many options to choose from:)

The first thing i noticed is that you’re sick of not having much burst damage. Guardian for the most part, are very lacking in burst damage. If anything, they have high sustained damage.

1. Hammer is more than viable. You feel less squishy due to the protection your auto-attack gives. Give the guide up at the top of the guardian forums a read. It’s very well written and very informative.

2. I can’t say I can help you with the look of armor. Everyone has their own preference on what looks cool. And yes, you will need weaponsmithing. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

3. Same goes with dye; it’s personal preference. I tend to gravitate towards lighter colors on my guardian for some reason. Maybe it’s the blue flame:P

4. The guardian is a lot of fun imo. It takes some getting used to, since it plays differently that a warrior. You’ll need to learn how to use your mitigation skills properly to survive, since we don’t have the same health pool warriors do. The utility you can bring to the fight is also second to none. Mob tagging is usually not an issue, since you have some pbaoe and aoe attacks with our weapons(mighty blow/whirling wrath).

Engineer, Ranger, Mesmer: 15,082
Guardian, Thief, Elementalist: 10,805

Actually the difference is more than 5k health. Its absolutly redicilous to make a heavy armor class have so little health.

Its a guardian, how can we guard things without a truckload of health and armor?

By clever use of all the utility skills guardians have. Guardians are insanely difficult to kill of they know how to time their skills.

This is getting old.

While I can say that I’m pretty decent at playing an ele, and i’ve won most of the 1v1 i’ve fought in WVW and sPVP, i’ll die 10 out of 10 times when i come across a skilled player playing another class. [glares at mesmers]

FYI, he left the slots for amulet/jewels/rune blank. That’s why the stats are so low.

Am i the only one that noticed ele’s are the best finishers/revivers in the game?

Runing mistform and earth armor makes you unstoppable.

Probably. I run 2 cantrips myself. The extra mobility/utility is awesome. More often than not, I see ele’s running around with Arcane Wave and Arcane Blast.

Working in the IT field, i know how difficult these things can be. Fixing one thing may cause another to act up. That’s just the nature of programming. These guys are working day in and day out to provide patches and updates NEARLY every day. With each fix, extensive testing needs to be done to see if any other bugs pop up. Little by little, things will be fixed, including our buggy skills. Also, do consider that there are other issues that are of higher priority. Anet has been very active in stomping out exploits and increasing the quality of general gameplay. For that, I applaud them.

tl;dr: Fixing things take time. Understand that.

Elementalists who won't make use of their Elements

I’d get bored if I stayed in one element too long. I use staff so I find a lot more benefit by swapping elements, laying down fields. 30 points in Arcana – faster swapping, buffs on attunements, blasting staff, and spells on dodge rolls. Pretty fun stuff.

Don’t forget on certain occasions, chain dodging!

Am i the only one who sees the ability to dance between attunements to be an advantage? We have twice the number of skills other classes do, even with their weapon swapping. We have so much utility with our weapon skills. Where’s the problem?

Arcane wave/blast adds quite a bit of damage to your burst, but I find that I lose the mobility i need to feel comfortable, haha. I usually run lightning flash, cleansing fire, and signet of earth. Just to reiterate again, signet of earth is OP for landing the s/d combo.

One thing I like to do is using III. Quick Glyphs and VIII. Inscription for your major air traits. Combined with the staff, you essentially have permanent swiftness, which in my opinion, is much more valuable. Oh, you also get double ever other boon when you cast Glyph of Elemental Harmony; pretty sweet imo.

I personally prefer to run 20 fire and 30 air because i find myself sitting in air most of the time, and the extra crit/crit dmg is nice to have.

I’ve usually had no problem bursting down most people, but again and again, this game boils down to builds. Maybe the thief specced more towards survivability? Have you tried your combo on more than just that particular thief?

On the occasion that I use scepter/dagger, i usually use this:

Start in air → poke with Arc lightning and Lightning Strike until opponent commits.
Once committed, blinding flash to avoid first hit, then updraft to knock down.
Swap to fire and use Dragon’s tooth > Signet of Earth > Phoenix* > Fire Grab > Dust Devil > Earthquake.

*Make sure you get all 3 hits of phoenix on your opponent.

At this point, you can swap to water for frost aura to chill, and air attunement should be back up. Switch back to air and ride the lightning AWAY to put a bit of distance away. rinse and repeat.

That’s just what usually works for me. Hope it helps.
