Haha, so true! Yeah, I realized as I was running away from a group of 4 invaders in WvW, timing each shield, swapping between kits every second, that if I had the same proficiency in almost any other class, I could probably turn around and take them. But even though I probably knew my class better than them, I had to run.

Oh well, sad times. Still, almost daily I try to play my level 27 warrior, but man… it feels like such an insult to my intelligence. I feel like I am very limited, but at the same time the little things I can do as a warrior are enough to dominate pretty much anything.

So yeah, I will continue to play my little less than powerful class because there is honestly nothing else out there that fits.

Engineer is too perfect for me, and Goggles get all the ladies.

My WvW Build is a Very Secret Recipe

Okay. So I made this post for multiple reasons, but mainly to encourage people to be brave and try something new, and play something they really think they will enjoy. Is Supply Crate better than Elixir X? Probably, but I guarantee you a Supply Crate dropped once every 15 minutes will never compare to an Elixir X every two.

My point? Play what you really want to play. Become your own expert. Here is what you have the ability to do as an Engineer: Rather than trying to adapt your play-style to whatever the “best” build is, adjust your build PRECISELY to how you play (in WvW). I think it is really common for people to play these set builds and completely forget about a utility skill because they don’t really like it, but everyone says it’s the most effective.

For a moment just forget about what people say is best or fail, and just start piecing together weapons, kits, and abilities you love. Then, trait to make what you love about those things better.

In the end, it doesn’t really matter if its never been done before. What matters is that it is yours, and nobody can do it better than you.

May your fuses burn strong.

ps: I completely agree that posting a build can help improve other people and you, but only do this if you are A.) Really unsure about something and B.) Already know that yes, it does work. People might tell you its terrible, but they are not the experts like you.

… and you will never know. hehe! No seriously, I am sure you can find one too, that is made JUST for you. I’m not talking about HGH Conditions. Mine is something totally unique, and it works beautifully. Perfect. I feel so awesome when I play it. All you upset forum posters, go try to make your own build. Who knows, you might strike gold! But if you do, don’t tell anyone. After all, 100 ’nades was there the whole time, just nobody used it until the few told the many. Find your own new build!

75% of the Engineers that I see beasting up in WvW, when I ask what their build is, say “its my own.” Some keep it secret, but when some others tell me, it is unlike anything I have ever seen before. And it works! Decide what you want to do in WvW, do a little research, and hand-craft your own build.

May your gloves stay charred, fellow Geniuses!

I don’t mind “working” to get something good, that can be fun. What I don’t like is that the work you have to do to get good stuff in WvW (a PvP oriented place) involves entirely doing PvE stuff. If you want to have good gear in WvW? Go farm Orr. You want to play sPvP? Have fun, but you won’t ever get anything at all from it. I don’t want to be forced to do something I hate in order to enjoy the real thing I am interested in. That’s what actual working is for. MMOs are for enjoying something with the hopes of enjoying it even more later.

First off, some of you guys should check out the WoW forums. They

are getting rid of 5-man dungeons and making decisions that their

players don’t like, so remind yourself of the problems while you

dream in nostalgia.

However, these are the things I don’t really like about GW2:

- Heart of the Mists: in most other games, when you get gear, it helps
you. While I like the idea of players not getting a large advantage
over new players, I think everyone likes the incentive to actually do
something rather than just sit around. “If I play a round of spvp, then
I can get a little better gear.” At this point the only incentive is to look
cooler.
Well, I spent my first three months in sPvP until I got my
absolute favorite armor set in the game. Now? No incentive. Period.
Nothing at all. That is just not fun. What game has no incentive?

- WvW: This is where the incentive comes in. Every peice of gear
comes to assist you. Unlike sPvP, when you defeat someone, it
matters, a lot. You take forts and resources and make a lasting impact
on your world. This is so unique and awesome to me. I spent my first
three months in sPvP, but I finally could not resist the urge to engage
in WvW. I deposited my collectibles, and headed out of HotM into the
portal to Lions Arch. … And emerged as a level 6 character in whites
and blues. I was destroyed in WvW.

What other game does this? You would think that if I spent so long in
PvP, stomping faces and winning tournaments, that I would at least get
SOMETHING in WvW.
Why can’t WvW be a place where people who
like PvE and people who love PvP meet up and play on equal grounds?

That’s how it is in other games, and I feel like it is just ridiculous that sPv kitten o isolated! Integration isn’t that hard, but there is no excuse for not even trying!

I agree. This game is aimed a specific group of people. People who like a lot of small scale PvE, and a little PvP on the side.

If you are a casual gamer who loves PvP and a little PvE on the side: I am sorry, but this game is not for you.

Just makes me love the rifle as we have it now. I wouldn’t be against a kit like that, but leave it to the warriors to use rifles so unoriginally. When a warrior grabs a rifle, he has to kneel down to get a good shot. When an engineer grabs a rifle, he packs in the powder and flies across the battle field, netting, exploding, and strait up face blowing everyone’s faces left and right. Sure, give me a sniper rifle, but who knows how I will use it!

There is a Norwegian (Norn!) saying:
“It’s not shameful to turn back!” (Freely translated)
It’s actually the rule number one when hiking, skiing or any other activity out in the nature. If you see a storm is coming, or perhaps you feel tired: Turn back! NOT SHAMEFUL!

Anet, we will only applaud and be grateful if you could give the rangers the same feeling / essence they had in GW1. After all, GW1 is your own creation. Not shameful!

I love that saying, never heard it before, but I really love it.

I’ve also never played GW1, but from what I heard from you guys, I would love to see a return of a lot of that stuff.

Stealth in this game has not really developed well compared to many other games. The Culling Issue is a serious problem. You could be in WvW, running to a point, moving around npc’s, trying not to get slowed down, then you hear “ting ting-ting” and numbers float from your screen, and you quickly try to dodgeroll, find an ability to use, but at this point its probably too late, and while yes, while it is possible to maybe respond to a situation like that, I really think its not gonna work out for you.

I understand how ArenaNet tried to develop the thief class, but I feel like they took the “Damage vs Survivability” possibility a little too far, and they really need to limit the extent that it can go. I love “agility” classes, but well developed games are able to limit this balance so as not to put a ton of pressure (going all the way back to a waypoint, then running back, along with a repair fee) all depending on 3 seconds of completely unexpected battle.

An enjoyable battle comes from about 10-30 seconds of intense combat, fighting and analyzing your enemies, stunning and dodging at the right times. That is what is fun for everyone. You can still have thieves that ambush players, quickly gaining a fast advantage over them, but not winning based on that. The dynamic combat GW2 was promised to create is a battle with many different abilities used in smart combinations, dodging and interrupting with abilities, and having a unique combat experience with every player you run into, learning and getting better. A three second combat sequence is not dynamic, not unique, and really not fun for anyone involved, especially when you are unable to even see your opponent.

Arena Net needs to admit that they dropped the ball. They need to limit the Damage vs. Survivability tradeoff for thieves and any other “2 shot class”, especially with the culling bug. They need to make it right, and they need to do it soon.

You should keybind the “About face” key. It is one of the first keybinds under controls. It faces you exactly 180 degrees from where you were. Again, not the easiest of ways to do it, pressing 3 buttons compared to one, but hey, you play an engineer. Also, in general when I need to GET BACK I am usually more in a hurry than when I need to GO TOWARDS the enemy, so I probably prefer it sending us back, allowing us to more easily land the aoe attack part of it. However, I agree with the other things that have been said about it. I hardly ever use it.

To put it short, you wont get any buffs untill the devs first realize their filosophy for Engineer is wrong.

Good one.

So I rolled a warrior, got them to level 28, and couldn’t stand it. I really don’t care what you guys say, but spend less time on the forums and more time in game. This terrible, “High Skill Level” we keep talking about is NOT HARD. Seriously. The Engineer class is amazing and fun. You want to sit at your computer and press four attack buttons to do well on a warrior? DO IT. I will be having a blast on my Engineer, just enjoying blowing stuff up.

Engineers:
- Can kill people 1v1 in WvW. All these “Amazing Classes” have their “Amazing Specs” that are “Amazing 1v1”. And, guess what, everyone wants to be “Amazing.” So predictable. We have dodges, we have blocks. These classes are faceroll, and they roll their faces the same way every time. The difficulty to learn how to respond is minimal, but yes, you do have to respond, you can’t just tap keys in the same way every time.

- Are Accepted in PvE Engineers are NOT Biased against in PvE or Fractals. I was asking a guild group what they needed for upper-level Fractals groups and they said: A non-glass cannon with plenty of AR and that are good with their feet. The class really doesn’t matter. " Seems like the spec that matters honestly. Only thing that seems to be discriminated against is stupidity.

-Are Great in sPvP. I have done A lot of sPvP, and Engineers are really great at this. Bunker builds have only improved after the last patch, you should not have been using grenades anyways. Engineers bring a unique ability to take a point under an enemy’s feet, and can bring the damage necessary to kill enemies timely in a 1v1.

Engineers have a low skill floor, hence all the complaining. We also have a very high skill cap. Yes, other classes can do well by pressing less buttons. If you are honestly overwhelmed by Engineers, then go play a faceroll class. We just really aren’t that overwhelming.

If there’s a will, there’s a way, and the way is clear as day. People who understand this Philosophy will dominate with Engineers just fine.

I don’t really like the turret kit idea, honestly. It seems to not really fit-in to the framework of our UI and class.

Here’s my suggestion: Make a trait that turns turrets into ball-turrets. They roll on the ground and fire at opponents, while staying within a specific range of the engineer, depending on the type of turret. When you press explode, they charge towards the target and explode in a blast finisher.

Not too different from what we have now, but a lot cooler and with a lot more strategy. Mesmers can use their turrets as cannon-fodder, why can’t we? Our class would still be very unique, but similar enough to be able to be just as useful.

Ofcourse, the soonest we could possibly hope to see this would be well into next summer. Also, I really haven’t seen ANet take any suggestions from players like that before.

I just posted this in the suggestion forums at : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Restore-Warrior-Sword-Animations/first#post1074704 , and I wanted to run it by you guys. Any Devs feel free to take this down/merge this with the other, I just wanted a wider opinion.

Hello! When I first started playing GW2, I loved the idea of warriors and what their theme was. I was greatly inspired by this video (located in the Warrior Profession Tab on this website), and it is probably the reason I wanted to play warriors so bad. Specifically at 0:39 in the video.

That being said, when I got to the game, the very first night it was pre-released, I made my warrior. I was so excited about all of it that it took me a while to realize that he… well… wasn’t really that awesome. Then I realized. It was the sword animation. In the video, his attacks are elaborate, powerful, and beautiful. In game, the attacks are like the ones that the other people have in the video. Small, lame, and strangely reminiscent of a little dirt trailing on the end of the blade.

PLEASE restore the warrior animations. They are what gave us our theme, and a big part of what makes Guild Wars so visually attractive. If it seems like it would be controversial, then by all means make it a checkbox in the options menu to, “Show enhanced warrior animation.”

I am not asking for you to make something new and incredible. I am really impressed by what you guys have done in the past, and I hope that you guys will be able to appreciate it enough to re-implement it into the game.

NOTE: I realize that there was an animation in game that had more effects, however that was more recently and was more like a blob appearing on the target, rather than the “stroke” like effect in the video.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to make this game what it is.

If balance in WvW is irreverent then they should disable stealth in it.

They have had no problem disabling other skills when they didn’t work right. Even class mechanic skills.

This. 1,000 times this. The players crying out for nerfs are not interested in game balance. They’re only interested in winning without putting in any effort for it. And supposing the thief does get heavily crippled by the nerf bat, don’t think for a moment they’ll stop at the thief. Any of the other 7 classes will be on their hit lists. all it takes is a single defeat and “ERMAHGERD, OVURPOWERD, NURF!!!11!1one!1one!1!”

Fine, Lets just buff everyone to deal with Thieves!

Every Non thief Class will now do 10x more damage.
Every Non thief Class will now have 10x more HP.

No nerfs! So I must be interested in balance right?

The only thing “nerfs” do is separate people who can think logically and those who can not. Power is totally relative. A nerf to one class is a buff to every other. A Buff to one class is a nerf to every other.

The only “advantage” of Buffs only is to soothe the egos of bad players using overpowered classes as a crutch to overcome their own incompetence.

So we should nerf the thief class because one of them dared strike you? Yes of course, makes perfect sense! People don’t want to just nerf the thief now, they want to utterly destroy it. Every time someone gets beaten by a thief, or a warrior, or a mesmer, they come here crying and screaming for nerfs like ignorant little children. Have you been paying any attention to the thief forums? The nerfers have been attacking everything from death blossom, to stealth. They’re dead set on obliterating thief burst, taking away stealth, and generally ruining the thief entirely.

The thief class isn’t overpowered. Could it use some tweaks? Perhaps, but the same could be argued of other classes as well. However, beyond the culling issue, there are little to no issues at all. If you’re going to nerf thief burst, then burst for other classes should be nerfed as well. People so easily overlook all the threads from thief and non-thief players alike about how easy it is to kill thieves. Look through the forums and you’ll find that skilled players have no problems dealing with thieves. But because bad players get beaten by thieves, they MUST be overpowered! HURRAY FOR LOGIC!!1!one!!

By that logic, every class should get nerfed for having ever defeated someone.

Incompetence indeed.

Wooshh. Right over your head.

Thats hilarious. Welcome to the forums lol.

My highest level thief is level 3, and I do not think thief damage is OP (Gasp). I think that their damage/health ratio is pretty solid and in-line with the top five classes (Ele, Mes, Thief, Guard, War) in WvW. I have been interviewing thieves in WvW at random. I ask how much health they have, how they like thief, and then if they have ever been 1 shot by a warrior. Most of them say yes. I like that their resource is called “Initiative” because that is what the thief is about. If the thief catches you, then your odds reduce greatly to make it out alive. If you catch THEM, then you can pretty consistently down them from 1,500 range in one hit.

I think the only thing that needs to be looked into is their mobility. I am still deciding between a thief or a warrior. How are thieves in PvE?

However, I am very interested in WvW, but I am not sure which class to level to 80 and make my “PvE and WvW Main.”

Here are the classes I am considering:
Warrior- I love the GS and I think I could come to love the armor look.
Ranger- Absolutely love medium armor, and GS aswell is awesome.
Thief- Love armor, but I can’t really see myself going back to finish lower level content with a thief.
Engineer- Ideal class had ANet not screwed them over excessively.
Guardian- I realize that this class probably matches my needs most… but I am having trouble bringing myself to like them. They are kinda cheesy, and the aegis shield drives me up the wall, I can’t stand that transparent thing.

I also like not dying excessively. I want to be able to do WvW solo and still get some kills.

Am I doing something wrong? I have been playing an Engi in SPvP for quite some time now, but I finally decided I want to really be able to engage in WvW. So I have started leveling my Engi, and am now at level 35. Whenever I go into combat, it just doesn’t feel right. I mean, it made sense to run in circles dropping bombs as a bunker Engi on a point, but in PvE I find I have to do this OVER and OVER again, just running around in circles, rolling, taking damage, popping some elixirs occasionally. My problem is not that its hard, I am fine with hard. My problem is it feels so… dumb.

I have also leveled a Ranger some, and combat is completely different. Your bear tanks and you bleed the enemy to death. With a guardian, you can usually stand still for the most part, healing yourself and killing things. Warriors are similar. Obviously there’s more to them, but it makes sense. NONE of these PvE strategies, involve running around in circles, dodging, dropping bombs and slowly killing the enemies that chase you.

I have tried bombkit, grenadekit, flamethrower, heck even toolkit, but I could never just sit there and eat the damage, or have my pet take it at that. I thought with flamethrower I could, but it just ended bad.

So please tell me, is this how it is for everyone, or what am I doing so terribly wrong?

Yeah, but it was Orlando Bloom who took down 86 Orcs and an elephant thingy using only three arrows and a comically misshapen carrot.

there won’t be ever any fixes for rangers, simply because the profession is dead, even the devs intended to do so :P

You guys must be channeling some psychic powers this weekend. We agree arrows need to be a bit faster to make DPS against moving targets a bit more reliable. 12/14 can’t come soon enough. :P

Agreed. Signet of the hunt needs to and will go to 25%.

FYI this is slated for the 14th of December.

I don’t think its a bad ability, and I don’t know that I would prefer it be switched to backdraft. An instant blind has ALOT of uses. However yes, I really think it should be a combo field. It would block incoming projectiles and provide us with some quick 3 sec stealth.

Yeah, I am hoping that this means that there will be other changes as-well! Hey, maybe next time they have a “state of the game” talk, they will actually mention rangers as being important!

Another Character, you can also split them up: i.e. Have weaponsmithing on your ranger and armorsmithing on your warrior.

Please maybe slightly increase some Greatsword damage! I know you like slight changes, so even a small step would make me feel awesome! I think that a greatsword Ranger is one of the coolest things that makes the class unique, and I would love to just have even a little hope that you will help keep that a great option!
