Why would you pick power over precision if you want a tank spec? Vigor on crit is an excellent tank talent. By comparison there is really not much way +power helps a tank spec.

I mean I can see the argument taht toughness/vitality gear is better than the options with precision but that’s because of the toughness/vitality not because of the power that happens to come along with it.

They’ve been running for a couple weeks now. There was the big ban in early-mid November that hit like 6,000 bot accounts. After that they must have developed and released a new bot that utilizes teleports to make it tougher to catch.

It does seem odd how poorly distributed swiftness is. I mean every class gets some, but a few classes have extremely easy 100% swiftness combos and a few classes struggle. It doesn’t seem like there’s a great balance rationale for it.

Wut? Burning does a maximum of about 700 dps if you gear for full condition damage (which few warriors would). Combustive shot puts one 2s burn on every 2 seconds. At max adrenaline it’ll do 8s of burning. I dunno how you are getting 6k pulses from that. Each pulse does about 1500 damage over 2 seconds even with full condition gear.

The problem with mesmers for tagging in orr comes when you’re on a server where mobs die within 1 second of spawning. It sounds like you arn’t on one of those servers. If you are mesmer is by far the worst class for tagging. Setting up even a single clone shatter takes a few seconds – you have the cast time of the clone ability, then the clone has to run to the mob and explode.

You can get by with IP if you know where the mobs spawn by just sitting on their spawn point and shattering as soon as they appear but that’s about it. If you have a second or two you can cast something like izerker or iwarden that spawns in melee range then shatter it instantly and that works too but you need a second or two. Same for something like using staff 2.

Is it fair to run arah in a random group with other classes, knowing to be a millstone around their neck all the time?

I wouldn’t go that far, mesmer is still VERY strong in PvE, may it be survivability, support or damage.

When my phantasm dies, my damage output gets down. I am not playing the mesmer only because of the support. And by the way, there are more powerful supporter on the run as the mesmer is. So, don´t tell me the mesmer is still strong and those things. I am ready to quit this game once and for all. I love the mesmer and don´t wanna play another class only cause A-net is destroying the class with each new patch.

He’s talking about the other builds. Shattercat and support are both very strong.

I don’t think that’s really true (tough being much better than vit) for mesmers. Mesmer tanking is focused more on avoidance than mitigation so toughness isn’t as useful for the class as it is for some other classes.

The way mesmer talents work it’s hard to come up with effective builds that would use power but not a large amount of precision.

Just play a thief, you are unbeatable in pretty much every fight.*

*Note I didn’t say you would win, just that you’re unbeatable. A good thief pretty much never dies. You may not kill your opponent but you don’t lose either. Very few classes have the ability to stop a thief from escaping a fight.

I think part of the problem is when you put down the utility then start using dodgetrops there is no way to see where the dodgetrops’ smaller radius ends.

Dodgetrops needs to either not stack with caltrops, or it needs to have a different visual effect that makes it obvious which is which and any overlap.

That sounds right for iZerker. The damage doesn’t seem to have changed, it just hits less of its attacks than it used to. It doesn’t hit its attacks any more partially because of the delay but also because it seems to spawn in the wrong place. It seems like a fair proportion of the time it doesn’t line itself up right and that causes it to miss a lot of the attacks.

One way to fix iZerker might be to just make it hit 4 times per target it runs through, without making it a series of AOE attacks. I.e. turn it into something like a piercing version of the warrior longbow auto attack. Make it move along a line, and anything it passes over in the line gets hit 4x instantly, with no AOE.

I don’t use duelist so I don’t really know about that.

Not that it really matters. With confusoin doing double damage in W3 right now you don’t need anywhere near 18 stacks to shred someone, even if you arn’t specced condition damage. If you are…just lol. Condition mesmer with 8 stacks of confusion = about 2800 damage per activation. A thief will kill themselves in about 2 seconds with auto attack damage.

I don’t think iZerker damage has actually changed if it hits all of its attacks. I think to get the old numbers all you have to do is look at how much damage it does if it doesn’t whiff half of them like it does now.

Ok so its sounds like you could counter the summon delay by having a subset of traits. So we fixed a bug that lets all those triats work together but that also makes them not able to exploit the delay anymore. Since it seems like they were working and mostly balanced without the delay I am going to go ahead and reduce the delay on this stuff to .25 seconds. I just tested it at 0 seconds and that breaks some other things so I think .25 is the best compromise.

^ THIS! 10.000x THIS! This is exactly what we’d like to see more of. I’m not even talking about the change itself, but about the communication. Jon, this thread was handled exactly as it should’ve been handled. More of this please. Even the grey post worked, where it said that the issue has been forwarded to the team.

Just want to support the thought here too. People realize devs can’t always respond this quickly to concerns but when you do it really dramatically improves the mood of everyone involved. Even if a fix is going to be 10 days off it buys you a lot of good will when you come out and talk about the issue and what you want to do.

On the substantive issue, .25 seconds seems fine for a delay. Although it would be nice if you could find a way to make the phantasm immune to damage for that .25 seconds, at least in PVE, to avoid the problem of bosses one-shotting them before they get a chance to attack.

I guess it depends how you define “bad thief.” I’ve met plenty of bad thieves you can kill via use of blink + temporal curtain pull.

But you’re right that there is no reliable way to beat a good thief except hoping you get lucky on your guess.

Simple fact is this, a set of armor or whatever takes X amount of ectos. Those ectos have to come from somewhere.

If you’re not farming those ectos yourself, that means someone else is farming them for you. Now that the bots are (mostly) banned, it turns out real people want to get payed more for their time, so the price goes up.

So, if the price to pay someone else to farm them for you is too high then go farm them yourself. Why should other people feel obligated to farm for less gold/hr just because you don’t want to pay the current market rate?

This argument ignores the reduced supply coming into the game and the increased demand from the huge numbers of ectos required for some of the new content.

Ectos shouldn’t be a gateway for three tiers of gear. It makes no sense. People wanting to craft exotics now have to compete with people wanting to use the same gating component for ascended and legendary items. It is just bad design and it is punishing people for coming to the game later, which is the last thing GW2 wants to be doing for the sake of its own long-term health.

Well, the point would be to extend your confusion long enough for blurred frenzy to come back up. As you noted without +duration there’s a couple second window there where you’ve got a gap. Plus the smaller ancillary benefits to a bunch of staff skills.

Also there’s the fact that a lot of the people you fight in w3, particularly in group fights, are just going to spam abilities straight through the confusion duration and therefore end up taking a ton of damage. Although these are the sort of people you will easily destroy 1v1, it can be significant in situations where you are outnumbered.

But I agree on reflection it is probably not the best option for really high level play. 10% crit damage and 5% crit is probably better for playing against a good opponent.

Mesmer are actually blessed v thief due to the large amount of teleports and blocks and stun breaks the class gets.

GS is probably the worst weapon to use vs thieves because it has none of those things. Staff and sword/X both have excellent options for avoiding the initial thief burst, and once you’ve done that the fight is a lot easier. Illusionary persona is also a good tool, as is blink.

A good thief will still just run away from you though and unless you’re lucky there’s not going to be much you can do about it.

Yeah, it wouldn’t be for the damage per se. I agree going condition damage is silly in a burst build. The value would be in having another 2 seconds of confusion duration every shatter, 40% longer cripples, another second of root, more condition removal protection from longer lasting bleed and vuln stacks from staff, etc.

With about 5.5 seconds of confusion duration from every shatter it seems like you could potentially keep confusion up most of the time, making the opponent have to either eat significant damage or avoid skill use almost entirely.

Confusion is broken in w3 because it uses the PVE damage formula, not the PVP formula. It is a good example of why they nerfed the PVP damage by 50%.

Yeah, I was just thinking that using confusion as a control tool is a lot more effective the longer it lasts.

The most obvious trait to give up would be the 3% damage bonus per illusion. Is that worth giving up for 33% more confusion duration? Seems questionable.

The food seems like a better trade off potentially. 40% extra duration on all conditions is a pretty big boost in terms of added control, not just for confusion but also for cripple, immo, chaos storm and armor conditions, etc. Seems like that is at least arguably as good or better than 5%ish crit and 10% crit damage. It does shift the build a bit from dps towards control obviously, so depending on the situation it might be more or less valuable. Probably worth carrying a stack of +condition duration food too for situations where it might be the superior option.

The problem is ectos are tied to exotics, legendaries AND ascended items. That’s just dumb.

Making it harder for normal people to get exotics because you tied the same item to legendaries and ascended items makes very little sense.

Ectos should be split into two resources: one for exotics, and one for legendaries and ascended items. Punishing people who didn’t get their exotics before you released the next tier because they use the same items is just stupid.

Portal is a bad skill. It is constantly used to justify other nerfs to Mesmer. Anet should just bite the bullet and restrict it to 5 people per portal and then balance the class accordingly.

The ease with which some professions gain the protection boon on a frequent basis needs to be toned down, but the buff itself seems pretty sound to me.

It’s an either/or situation. Either protection duration needs to be toned down or it needs to be less effective.

Right now protection grants about 1000 toughness and for some builds can be up pretty close to 100% of the time you can be hit at all (i.e. not dodging or blocking).

P.S. People like Rhythgar are spoiled by playing a class with such large access to protection. The problem with protection being the cornerstone of bunkering is that it is not close to equally distributed. One benefit of buffing toughness and nerfing protection would be that all classes have equal access to toughness.

I didn’t read the whole thread but have you considered a modification of the spec that uses +condition duration food and the +33% confusion duration talent? It seems like with the doubled confusion damage you get in W3 that could really wreck people badly. That’d be like what, 4 stacks of ~6 sec duration confusion every time you shatter? Pretty brutal.

Of course you’d love a little bit of crit damage from the food and one illusions talent. But it seems like something to think about.

Confusion is super effective in PVP. On a CoR shatter with shatter build your 8 stack confusion will basically kill a player on its own if they don’t pay attention and don’t turn off auto attack. Not to mention just the normal MR combo critting for 10kish + the 4 stacks of free confusion which punishes them for doing anything after you unload a huge burst attack on them.

Of all the things to complain about that is like the worst.

GS is kinda junk in PVP right now with the blind nerf and the bug to iZerker that means even when you do get it out it does junk damage. It’s still decent in PVE because your iZerker lasts to the 2nd attack more often and you don’t have to worry about blind much.

One solution could be that blind makes illusions fail but only puts them on the 3-4 second cooldown you get if you get interuppted or something like that, rather than the full skill cooldown. There is no doubt right now that blind neuters a mesmer much more than it neuters other classes, and it’s difficult to see why that should be the case.

Also one thing that absolutely needs to be fixed is that current if you are blind sometimes your illusion will not only fail but the blind won’t even be consumed.

Looking at their current track record on big additions they will probably introduce instanced wvwvw that makes the current wvwvw zones a total ghost land then a month later make a post says “oops, that was a mistake LOL won’t happen again” then do nothing about it.

Toughness is one of those stats like +crit damage or something like that that is of marginal use if you don’t stack it with other defensive stats, boons and active mitigation.

The problem is if you tune up toughness significantly current bunker builds become too powerful, so you’d have to nerf some of the active defense or the boons.

I agree protection is a questionable boon, especially on classes like guardians who can keep it up almost all the time. Toughness probably needs a boost and protection needs a bit of a nerf.

I’m sure some tweaks are in order, but I’ve been having no trouble using #1 when I see black borders (Not judging, just my experience)

The problem isn’t a random blind getting thrown out now and then. The problem is that a smart player who knows about the change can totally shut down a mesmer now via blinds, dodges etc.

Not to mention that blind doesn’t even fall off on a failed clone summon some of the time, which obviously makes zero sense.

Yeah, it seems to be a skill searching for a reason for existence right now. “A worse version of feedback with a lower cooldown and not so obvious animation” doesn’t seem like a great reason to have yet another reflecion utility on a clkittened with reflect.

It really depends how you define your terms.

Mesmer for example is easy to do well with but it also has one of the highest skill caps of any class. Low skill floor, high skill cap. Depending on whether you are talking about skill floors or skill caps the mesmer will come near the top or near the bottom.

I don’t know what classes you are really talking about. It’s true many classes get more dps from their 1 attack than mesmers but few get most of their dps from it. Just thieves and rangers mostly.

Every time a mob does anyting at all, including auto attack, it counts as a skill use and procs confusion damage.

The problem with confusion in PVE isn’t that mobs don’t use skills, it’s that they tend to attack quite infrequently, i.e. about once every 2 seconds or so on average, and melee mobs often only reliably use skills in melee range. That means that duration becomes very important, because without condition duration you can easily end up applying a ton of stacks of confuse that will proc only once or maybe not at all.

You really need the +33% confusion duration and/or 40% longer food to make confusion useful in pve.

The thing about mesmers is unlike most other classes they have multiple viable builds and they play very differently. So generic advice isn’t all that useful.

For example against a shatter mesmer the most important thing is anticipating and avoiding the shatter.

On the other hand a phanstasm mesmer is all about learning the summoning animations and dodging/blocking them so the phantasms don’t come out in the first place.

One of the toughest things about fighting a mesmer is you really need to know the class and the various specs to be able to do it decently.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Several of the other passive regens tick for that amount too. Warrior is the only one I know of that goes higher, and that’s only if you have 2 or 3 adrenaline.
