Personally I like the voice. Sometimes it really annoys me like when you are low on health and she moans and says, “Ugh, the pain it hurts…” Sounds like a 5 year old who just scraped their knee. During most of the dialog though I enjoy it and other than some very occasional bad line readings
I think she did a good job. I think she has a voice that doesn’t need to be gruff and brooding, I don’t know how to describe it but she sounds like the leader type and not growling through everything.
I can see where people could say it isn’t lore friendly though, especially considering how different the female charr pc sounds to every other. Plus I have to imagine the face people choose can effect it, having the old face or the freaky looking ones can make the voice very out of place.
I haven’t played the original as well but from what I can assume on the forums, it seems like some people still play it but I’m guessing that it is only a small amount. You probably won’t be able to find groups of players to help you complete some dungeons but with the companion and hero system you can have NPC’s in your group to help you complete most of the content.
I agree, I loved the racial story lines and even most of the Vigil story line (granted I would rather spend more time with Destinies Edge). When I became commander of the Pact I loathed the rest of it.
I don’t want to be the big leader that everyone knows about and now in all future story lines we are going to be that kind of person that everyone instantly recognizes.
I agree, maybe add fancy clothes, dresses for women and suits for men. I do wish they would make female charr use male town clothing though, I was bummed when I bought the Winterday outfit for me charr female and it was the dress and not the sharp looking coat.
Well my first character and my only for a long time was a charr and I never played the original so I suppose I’m biased in my statement but even after making a human and playing him more than my charr, I have to say I can’t be too mad at them.
After exploring the Black Citadel it is apparent that the cubs are taught a very skewed history of the events from Guild Wars 1 so it is no surprise they would harbor a hatred for humans at a young age. The environment they grew up in taught them to only hate humans and kill everyone of them and any who disagreed were probably punished severely.
So I guess I’m more upset with their leaders than the race of charr in general, they were the ones continuing to plant the hatred in each generation of charr and blatantly lie to make it seem like what they did during the Searing was heroic. I wanted to kick that one charr next to Storm Caller with my rocket boots after talking to her.
I think a good way to please everyone would be to have two types (What are currently the male and female versions) that you pick from when buying. It drives me crazy when my female charr uses male armor but female town clothes, I know some people like it but I always play male characters to avoid skimpy armor and the charr female was my chance to try a different gender in an MMO.
Letting people choose the type they want could please a lot of people, but don’t blame me when I can’t contain my laughter seeing a male norn wearing the Winters day dress!
Well I have to disagree with everyone’s dislike for the engineer. I do agree they have a slow start but once I got to 80 it became my favorite class and my warrior and necromancer are sitting there collecting dust.
I use 0/30/0/20/20 for my traits and have Superior Runes of the Fighter and I use rocket boots, flamethrower, and tool kit as my utilities. Most of my gear is based around power, toughness, and precision. It isn’t the most optimal build by far, but I can last a lot longer with that than I do with my warrior.
I also use the rifle for a neat little combo, I wait until I have my Hidden Flask trait activate, use the Net Shot to keep the enemies still, use Jump Shot to close the gap and deal some good damage, use the Rocket Kick to put a nice burning on them and close further distance, then use Pry Bar, then switch back to rifle and use Concussive Shot and Rocket Boots to get some distance as my skills recharge.
That is my favorite part of the class, with trying to find to perfect setup and know what kits and elixirs to use when and pull of some good damage. I say stick with it and hopefully the class will grow on you.
P.S.
I know I’m going to sound like a kitten and I apologize but it is a pet peeve of mine so I just have to say it, it is charr not char!
I thought of an idea that may be a good addition to the Guild Mission roster, make a mission available where you fight the large world bosses (Fire Elemental, Shadow Behemoth, dragons, those types) but you fight them in an instance you unlock from the Guild Missions.
You could make it so that the guild purchases the mission, you get everyone to where the boss would normally be, and much like doing a personal story instance, have an indicator for your guild members and have it so you get to fight the bosses but only with your guild buddies. This could also help prevent people from going into overflow since people tend to stand near the bosses spawning area and likewise make it so people are not required to stand around waiting for the boss to spawn.
I’m not sure how difficult it would be without the amount of people usually present at these events so I’d be worried that smaller guilds would not be able to enjoy it but if you had the right amount of people I’m sure these bosses could prove far more challenging then they currently are.
I do have some concerns though about it though.
What if people do this mission then right afterwards go and do it in the open world and collect the rewards for the same boss?
What if this makes it so far less people do the open world version and it can’t be completed and depletes the population for those zones?
How would you handle rewards for completing it?
There are a lot of things that would have to be considered but if it was done right, I think it would add a new challenge, and hopefully make these bosses threatening again. Plus I know I’d feel cool if me and my guild took down a dragon.
Do you guys have any suggestions on how to improve this idea or if it should even be implemented?
Don’t really want to be a buzz kill, but this post doesn’t seem entirely appropriate for this section.
I would recommend some where in Divinities Reach, there are some beautiful spots there. Which ever spot you choose make sure to upload screen shots!
I hope they add spears, I mean they already have skins for them (some look very nice but I hardly get to see mine). Thing is though, is how traits will affect it, they would need to add new traits or replace current ones to make players want to use it. That could take some time, plus having to balance it out with other weapons/ classes.
I hope they consider adding them though, the more weapons the merrier!
I remember getting Storm after only two tries. I was talking to a friend who was trying to get it and when I asked him what the name of the scepter was and he said the name and right when he did it I got it.
I was like, “Oh this one?” Then linked it to him. Sent it to him and now we’re working together to finish crafting his legendary.
Frankly I would scrap the whole “Become the commander of the Pact” stuff. It seems most people enjoyed the Personal Story until you join an order. I think the story would be better if you stayed with your friends from the beginning. Doing it this way lets you learn about your companions and become connected to them as you progress onto Orr.
Take the charr story for example, maybe have it so you stick with your warband and help Rytlock with assignments assisting the Pact, not only do you get to spend more time with your warband and get to know them, you also get to see Destinies Edge interact with each other and their constant arguing and as you progress through the story until they eventually get past their issues with assistance from the player and their companions.
This could also help improve the story mode dungeons, instead of it being, “I hate you” “I hate you to” then suddenly in Arah they become friends again, you get to see how things played out for them between dungeons.
I am not a huge fan of playing games where you are some hero everyone is in reverence of. I didn’t like it how everyone addressed me as “Commander” and would have liked it far more if we weren’t thrust into such an important position.
It’s too late to make it this way and maybe not a lot of other people like the idea of not being the big hero but even if we revisit our friends from the beginning, they will address us as the Commander and I feel that may dampen our connection with them.
Just my two cents, but I’m not a fan of being the legendary hero everyone and their grandma know about.
Well while it is called Guild Wars, that simply refers to the actual guild wars that took place across Tyria before the events of the first game. I’m sure they will add some type of GvG stuff later for the sPvP. There are plenty of other posts like this with pretty much the same answer.
Well there is a renown heart in Metrica Province where you can talk to skritt IQ test subjects. If you are an asura when you talk to one of them you say how all the skritt should be sent to the charr so they could eat them, the the skritt passes out. I can’t remember the exact dialog but it suggested the skritt should be charr food.
Well I got a lucky break and started a quest line to acquire a tank, thing is though is this is going to take months to finish but once I’m done I get a tank mount and get to join a large guild called [ARMY], they are a pretty large PvP guild. They said I couldn’t play gw2 for awhile though, bummer.
Not too sure about the specifics myself. I do know that in one zone, I believe it is the Fields of Ruin there is a heart quest where you have to take the roll of a slave task master and “motivate” slaves into mining ores for the Iron Legion. I’m sure they use methods like that to get some of it and I would assume that the Blood Legion could be sending supplies from the west.
That’s is the thing I love about this game and the human/charr conflict. There is no right or wrong and the fact such civil debates can occur over the topic. I’m glad I was able to read what everyone wrote here and learning a lot more about the Searing and the conflict.
(Minor spoilers below!)
On another note though, I read Ghosts of Ascalon and I can’t recall the mans name but he was a personal servant to the king and I remember he told Dougal that Adelbern was planning on using the Foefire. I think Adelbern even stabbed the man when he tried to reason with him and that was when he told the Fire war band lead by Frye that Adelbern was going to use the Foefire. Then when Frye tried to warn the charr his war band was tied up on The Viewing Hill and watched the Foefire. This is all off the top of my head though so I probably botched a lot of it. If anyone read the book, could you confirm on this?
My main is a warrior but I made a charr engineer. I had an asura one once but I figured bigger character means bigger guns! Plus charrzooka. I will admit though, running around as a little asura with a flame thrower is hilarious!
I just like helping people do story mode, sometimes I’ll just sit out side a dungeon looking for players that still need to do story mode and help them through it. So far the only story mode I like are, Ascalonian Catacombs, Citadel of Flames (my personal favorite!), and Crucible of Eternity. I didn’t really like Twilight Arbor all too much.
I’m getting the same problem, I finished the personal story and tried to read all the entries and when they disappeared I was kind of bummed out, I’m sure it will be patched up soon.
When I was in the asura starting area with a level 2 necromancer, I saw a person on a level 2 human engineer walk towards a winters day box. I yelled., “Booka! Don’t open it!” Our screams were cut short by the screeching princess dolls.
Also forgot to mention there is a site called gw2lfg.com that can help you find groups, I have no clue how to use it but if you need a group fast I hear that is a good tool to use.
Hope this helps.
I had a bit of trouble to but when you reach the proper level for the story mode of a dungeon you get a letter telling you the the story and at the bottom is a button that says, “Show on map”. Then the map will open and pan to it’s location. The dungeon should be marked as a door on the world map.
Since you are level 34 you will be doing Ascalonian Catacomb first which is located in The Plains of Ashford near The Black Citadel. I accidentally deleted a few letters for dungeons but you can always zoom out on the map and see them. If you ever need someone to run it with you my guild and I can run you through the story and explorable mode.
It’s pretty hard to find a group for story modes now though, with Fractals and lack of tokens from story dungeons. I’m always willing to help someone through story mode now that I’ve got the full Ascalonain Armor. Hit me up when ever you need to do any dungeons.
What about my charr’s name? I need your opinions here!
I’d give Barrak a 9/10 since those worms are everywhere and I can picture a charr running around tearing then out of the ground and beating them to a plup.
My charr is a femal Blood Legion member and her name is Makkiev Ironside.
Never mind, I closed the game and when I signed back in I got the letter again.
[Small Spoiler]
I just finished The battle for Claw Island quest and after I finished the menu came up for the items I could choose, while it was still open I also opened my mail inbox and read the letter from Almorra then after reading it I deleted it. After I got my items for competing the previous quest it told me my next objective was to read Almorra’s letter. I can’t open it now and I have no clue what to do. The description for The battle of Claw Island also only said, “After the defeat at Claw Island, the survivors returned to Lion’s Arch. It will take”. Then it just cuts out from there.
Is there any way for me to do the next mission then?
I just started playing Guild Wars 2 this week and wanted to see what the gem store had available. I decided I found a few things I wanted and decided to buy some gems, the problem I kept running into was every time I typed, “Illinois” it would turn red and say that I need to review the information and re-enter it, then it doesn’t allow me to click next. I even tried typing in other states and all of this didn’t happen. Is this something that only affects residents of Illinois?
